Report: Obama admin has issued threats against the Benghazi whistleblowers?

posted at 8:41 pm on April 29, 2013 by Erika Johnsen

For months now, Republican lawmakers have been wondering about the status of the survivors of last September’s terrorist attack in Benghazi that resulted in the death of four Americans, and why it is that Congress has not been afforded more access to them. In March, Sen. Lindsey Graham suggested that the Obama administration was engaged in specifically blocking access to these witnesses, and that the witnesses had even been told to “keep quiet” — a notion that the administration blithely dismissed and Democrats once more pooh-poohed as the mere partisan pish-tosh of those petty Republicans.

The latest update from Fox News, however, reports that at least four career officials from the State Department and CIA are lawyering up as they prepare to provide “sensitive” information about the Benghazi attack to Congress, and that Obama administration officials have served some of these witnesses with not-so-subtle hints about the consequences of coming forward: Nice career you’ve got there. Shame if anything were to happen to it.

Victoria Toensing, a former Justice Department official and Republican counsel to the Senate Intelligence Committee, is now representing one of the State Department employees. She told Fox News her client and some of the others, who consider themselves whistle-blowers, have been threatened by unnamed Obama administration officials.

“I’m not talking generally, I’m talking specifically about Benghazi – that people have been threatened,” Toensing said in an interview Monday. “And not just the State Department. People have been threatened at the CIA.” …

“It’s frightening, and they’re doing some very despicable threats to people,” she said. “Not ‘we’re going to kill you,’ or not ‘we’re going to prosecute you tomorrow,’ but they’re taking career people and making them well aware that their careers will be over [if they cooperate with congressional investigators].” …

Rep. Darrell Issa, the Republican from California who chairs the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, wrote to Secretary of State John Kerry on Friday to complain that the department has not provided a process by which attorneys like Toensing can receive the security clearances necessary for them to review classified documents and other key evidence.

Republican Rep. Trey Gowdy said on Sunday that more Benghazi hearings are coming in short order — and that he thinks they’re likely showcase some “explosive” revelations (if, that is, the media should condescend to take notice in any other capacity than the ever-dismissive, “My, these Republicans are certainly determined to discredit Hillary Clinton!”):

“There are more Benghazi hearings coming; I think they’re going to be explosive,” Mr. Gowdy, a South Carolina Republican who is a member of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, told Fox’s Uma Pemmaraju.

Mr. Gowdy wasn’t able to give out too many details, but he hinted that the public for the first time might hear from witnesses to the terror attack that left four Americans dead. …

Mr. Gowdy added that in a trial, “direct evidence, direct testimony by eyewitnesses is always the most compelling.”

“Trust me when I tell you you will want to follow the hearings that are coming up,” he reiterated.

EXTREMELY CONCERNING. And alarming.

Unacceptable, utterly unacceptable.

*IF* there’s clandestine activity being attempted to remain under wraps — “if” being a very general statement here because I can’t imagine that it is not so, but, just saying, “if” for purposes of commenting here — there remains no excuse for threats of this level against possible witnesses called by Congress.

It’s not decent behavior by the Obama Admin and corresponding helpers in correlating departments, to threaten people to this extent, for any reason.

Obama had Rev. Wright, Bill Ayers and Frank Marshall Davis…for starters. Obama was know as the “Slumlord Senator” for his support of corrupt slumlords Tony Rezko, Valerie Jarrett, Allison Davis, and Cecil Butler…just look at his record during those years – seized by the federal government in 2006, after city inspectors found widespread problemscited by city inspectors last year after chronic plumbing failures resulted in raw sewage spilling into several apartmentsmore than 1,000 apartments, mostly in and around Obama’s district, then refused to manage the units, leaving the buildings to decay to the point where many no longer were habitablein 2006 after city inspectors found more than 1,800 code violations. Obama is a misogynist – especially when it comes to white women, his Grandmother was a “Typical White Person,” Barack Obama makes a one-fingered gesture while speaking of Hillary Clinton, Obama calls a White Female Textile Factory Worker “Sweetie” whilst on a textile factory tour in Allentown, Pennsylvania, Obama calls reporter Peggy Agar “Sweetie,” Obama calls Hockey Moms “PIGS!” Obama’s Nancy Reagan jokes. On and On and On.

Most of that was before he even became president, and he has won 2 elections since. Benghazi will not hurt Hillary, even if she had personally murdered those 4 victims…

Very clever. The headline of the Jensen post is a declarative sentence with a question mark at the end.

And the story is a Fox News “update” based on the unsupported assertion of one, right-wing partisan who has a vested interest in muddying the waters on behalf of her client.

Obama is literally telling everyone to “shut up” and/or “go away” or both, under penalty of various harms (to careers, to livelihoods, to credibility/reputations, to relationships, to state of mind, any/all retribution of harms).

I also don’t know why Obama hasn’t been impeached. He’s behaving in the Presidency, as are his Cabinet members and departments, as foreign elements destroying the nation. They could.not.be more hostile toward the wellness of the U.S.A. than they are.

Lourdes on April 30, 2013 at 8:02 AM

I cannot see the Democrats EVER voting to convict and remove the first black President. They love that 95% voting bloc too much to do something like that…and, as for the Democrats pulling a Goldwater-Scott-Rhodes and sending a delegation of ‘elders’ to tell Obama to resign as the Republicans did to Nixon, forget it.

Resist We Much on April 29, 2013 at 9:08 PM

Based upon what I read, have read and continue to, from Obama supporters is that they deem Obama’s hostility toward the U.S. as some sort of “deserved retribution” — they’re owed some harms “back” or in return for the harms they believe have been done to them by this big, awful place called the U.S.A.

That attitude and ongoing belief/position among many Democrats, many Leftwingers, today, fuels their fervor in support of Obama: the U.S. as it is “deserves to suffer”. So Obama’s harms against the nation are to their delight and they support his harmful actions and attitudes.

crrr6 on April 29, 2013 at 9:21 PM

It was a spontaneous demonstration caused by a movie BY A CHRISTIAN, FORMER MUSLIM.

THOSE elements were the focus of Obama’s blame-shift effort. Not a random movie but one made by a FORMER MUSLIM who is now CHRISTIAN.

Obama used that excuse to rub more salt into the already salted wound. More of his “ruin the USA as a Judeo/Christian” civilization methodology.

And the Left *wonders why* people conclude Obama is Muslim. Or otherwise acting on the Nation of Islam’s behalf.

In a just world, Obama would already have been impeached and removed from office. I hope I’m wrong, but I expect these hearings to go nowhere, especially with the Worthless John Boehner as Speaker.

Like a cornered wounded animal in the wild, the Social Democrat Party is now at it’s most dangerous. Obama/Hillary are corrupt empty vessels. One has only the color of his skin to recommend him and a past so manufactured it couldn’t be dreamed up by a cold war novelist. The other has only her gender and the coattails of a husband to skate by on. But this is the Social Democrat Party today. They are better suited to Nazi Germany or Soviet Russia and they are scared to death because the common people are beginning to see beyond the smoke and mirrors. After fifty years, their failed ideology has come home to roost. The destruction is all around us and plain to see despite the constant filtering of their sycophants in the media. The Party, Obama and Hillary are are all on the back of the tiger and if any one of them falls off, they will all be mauled to death. From somewhere out there, a great hunter will emerge and in 2016, the evil ones will be removed. Pray Psalm 109:8

as your beloved Shillary said..

“WHAT DIFFERENCE DOES IT MAKE?”

That she and every other high level Obama official engaged in outright lies hours after they knew the details of a planned attack on our embassy personnel..

and you simply for exceptionally petty and despicable partisan reasons..

don’t give a damn that 4 Americans died, one tortured for hours before hand..

don’t give a damn, that Obama and his partisan lemmings have lied, stone walled, delayed, ignored and defied the law in keeping as much information from Congress as possible..

and making threats from this president is par for the friggin course..

Look you clown, have you ever had to defend anything for this nation?.. Do you have any idea have completely evil this is to our military and diplomatic corps?

Your lives ain’t worth the time it would take Obama to grow a pair and ACT,.. he’ll just let you die while he goes nappy’s to be fresh for his Beyonce (or whatevah her name is) fundraiser..

Where the Hell are his priorities?

During the Bush years people like you parsed everything he did, looking for anything you could trump up into a scandal.. calling him a murderer and war criminal.. with zero evidence and justification other than he was a republican, and you hate those..

Bush would NEVER have left those people to die..

and the only reason far more didn’t, was the incredible valor of those two brave SEALS who gave all, to save who they could..

and you make excuses..

so much for caring about the troops lib..

The only dead you people care about, are the ones you use as props.. and don’t think these whistle blowers don’t know that about you.

Real public servants are coming forward to tell their story..

and you think destroying them for it is just A OK,… There is a reason the troops voted against Obama the last time in such overwhelming numbers, liberals are simply to self absorbed to see that our best are sick of Obama’s careless disregard for their safety.. their lives..

oh he’ll milk their funerals.. as that Stone cold idiot Biden offends the grieving families..

and you’ll quickly try and change the subject..

like you did here..

The issue is an out of control lawless rabidly secretive president flaunting the law, and p*ssing away American lives..

try and keep up.

Every vet knows Obama and libs like you only care about dead GI’s when you can exploit their corpses.. and in this case, that doesn’t work.. so you divert and attack the messenger..

Why do libs only care when a republican screws up? ..only then,. because when Obama, or Carter screwed the pooch you only make excuses, and destroy evidence, ignore subpenas, and hide witnesses..

shameless rabid lawless hacks..

Instead of trying to address the issue at hand, you focus on punctuation.

Tell me if you can spot the difference that punctuation makes in these two sentences:

Obama admin has issued threats against the Benghazi whistleblowers.

Has the Obama admin issued threats against the Benghazi whistleblowers?

The post uses the first form to make the accusation, but adds a cover-up question mark at the end. No, I don’t believe that that was a mere punctuation error.

And then without any support, you brush off the “update”…

Some journalistic nuances that were missing from the “update”:
Who made such threats? Name names.
When were the threats made. Day, date, time.
Who heard the threats? Who were the threats made to?

What Fox did was take the word of one person without apparently doing even basic fact-finding.

And of course, Erika/HotAir ran with it as material suitable for the daily Obama-hater wankfest.

After years of reading from them (the Left, Liberals), I’ve concluded it’s not limited to “self loathing” — the Left, Liberals really hate others, hate this nation, hate, hate, hate.

I realize that twisted psychology is rooted in “self hate” but the Left’s hatred to and about others, including the generalized “USA” they describe, is…

…well, you’re right, it’s due to the Left’s self-loathing, self-hatred and all their other hate flows from there.

The HEIGHT of delusion.

If the GOP learned anything “explosive” about Benghazi they would then be obligated to take on Obama – via, most likely, impeachment procedings.

that entirely depends, if it is explosive, they may not have a choice. The only reason the House has been timid about Obama, is they’re terrified of being blamed of hating the “black” president by the media.. and Boehner.

If it’s as bad as these teasers suggest, the independents, moderate democrats may turn on him, dems in red districts may as well. With democrat cover, they may well act.

But it has to be damming.. hard information of criminal negligence.. or willful misconduct which caused these deaths.. just incompetence, won’t be enough to light a fire under them.

mark81150 on April 30, 2013 at 8:56 AM

Not the exact quote, actually. You left out the Clintonian “word softener”- a brief phrase, placed into the core of the money quote, to slightly dilute it’s meaning and impact.

Hillary’s actual quote reads:

“What difference, at this point, does it make?”

That mirrors Bill Clinton’s infamous “with that woman” in his quote referreing to Lewinsky:

“I did not have sexual relations, with that woman, Miss Lewinsky…”

The phrase “what difference does it make” and “I did not have sexual relations with Miss Lewinsky” are both bold and direct as to the meaning. But when you add the Clintonian Word Softener, they come out just vague and limp enough that it doesn’t leave an impression, or seems like less of a thing to refute.

It’s very subtle unless you’re looking out for these types of things. I’m surprised no one has ever compared these two statements.

Sorry, doesn’t work..my mom is dead and it’s YOU who loves the taste of obama’s rooster. Now back on your bike.

Who made such threats? Name names.
When were the threats made. Day, date, time.
Who heard the threats? Who were the threats made to?

What Fox did was take the word of one person without apparently doing even basic fact-finding.

And of course, Erika/HotAir ran with it as material suitable for the daily Obama-hater wankfest.

chumpThreads on April 30, 2013 at 9:11 AM

Oh please. You know as well as everyone else here, on both sides of the aisle, that no amount of evidence, no matter how credible, from any source, will ever change your mind on this or any other matter that makes your party look bad.

Once your questions are answered in such a damaging (and accurate) way, you’ll simply move the goalposts to a point you believe outside of the realm of existing potential proof.

Eventually, when even you can’t defend the crimes that were clearly committed, you’ll just drop the subject and stay away from any thread on that subject (gosnell, anyone?)

How much longer can the lamestream media ignore this stuff? I know they are in the tank but this would be tantamount to treason if they chose to ignore the revelations coming out about Benghazi. The Dems are poised to nominate Hillary Clinton in 2016, they feel like if they do they have it in the bag. That alone would be a huge motivating factor in the Pravda media ignoring this. It’s bad enough they have swept what we already know about Benghazi under the run, Kermit Gosnell, Trayvon Martin, Pigford, Fast N Furious on and on. At what point do even the lowinfovos start paying attention? Oh yeah, when the Obamacare costs skyrocket next year!

I don’t know who I have more contempt for, the lamestream media, this administration, or the lowinfovos.

spit!

Impeachment is five years too late. Republicans don’t have the cajones……. Boehner and McConnell….. God save us.

Oh, another mind reader. HotAir is filthy with your type.

I said, on HotAir, long ago that if found guilty Gosnell should punished with the maximum sentence. You might have noticed if you and the other anti-abortionists here weren’t so busy feverishly trying to make his case a stalking horse for the issue of abortion rights.

Let me spell it out for you…the criminal acts of a doctor have nothing to do with whether a woman should have the right to an abortion, any more than the actions of a pill-peddling doctor should determine whether a cancer patient should receive pain medication.

I’ve schooled you. Now runawayyyy.

Inaccurate analogy. More accurate: The criminal acts of a 3d trimester ABORTION doctor is relevant to a woman’s right to have a 3d trimester abortion, much like the actions of a pill-peddling CANCER doctor determines whether a cancer patient receives medication. If there’s no doctor, there’s no treatment. We think that’s a good thing.

Oops….that’s gonna leave a mark.

And what is this “right” to an abortion you speak of? If abortion is a right, then an abortion doctor has to provide it to whoever demands it. Any time they demand it. And the doctor has to provide it at any point in the pregnancy. Right?

See, if it’s a right, it can’t be infringed. Oh, NOW I see why you’re so confused.

Still waiting for your reply on why some whistleblowers are More Equal than others, and why some whistleblowers are threatened by your Party and others are not.

As for Faux News, you obviously missed the new poll that shows that in their coverage of the Boston Marathon Terrorist Attack, many, many more viewers said Faux News was more accurate in their coverage than were CNN and MSDNC.

That new poll was commissioned by the Far-Reich Huffington Post.

Why no HA article on that?

They need to get on with it and not telegraph what they are doing. Taking time over this is going to encourage the stonewalling and give the criminals more time to plan their next obstruction.

Because a human life is the same as cancer. Why is anything Gosnell did a crime? If the women went to him to get abortions, what difference does it make if the babies came out alive and were then killed instead of killing them in the uterus? Why would one be murder and the other a “right”?

That is why Gosnell matters and why the pro-baby killing people want to ignore and why the media ignores the story. Because those questions cannot be answered with any semblance of logic.

Once you admit that it is semantics (in the womb, it is nothing and can be killed – outside of the womb, a crime – even though it is the same baby in both instances), then it becomes impossible to justify the procedure.

The proof is in the pudding. If what I stated above was not true, this case would be an enormous media circus, as it has all of the juicy elements the media loves. the fact that it is almost entirely embargoed is evidence that pro-baby-killers understand that the above argument is true and they do not want people to see this trial or make those connections.

…threatening the VICTIMS of an Islamic Extremist Terrorist Attack…

At what point is the American people going to wake up andadmit our President is an Islamic Extremist sympathizer/facilitator?!

Obama knows 2 terrorist attacks were perpetrated against Amb Stevens, denied additional security requests after each one; was warned by Stevens that if more securty was not provided & a 3rd attack occurred he would die – additional security request denied; aided Al Qaeda-backed rebels take over Libya then entrusted THEM (rather than US Marines/Troops) with Stevens’ protection – even after the 1st 2 attacks; was notified via cable by the CIA immediately this was a terrorist attack; ordered the SpecOps Team to ‘step down’ rather than respond then relieved of command the AFRICOM Commander of his command for intending to ignore that order & send them anyway…hides away the victims & is now threatening them t keep their silence….

Just a reminder:
o Nixon was forced from office over a few minutes of missing tape…
o Clinton was Impeached for Perjury….

Obama armed Mexican drug Cartels, over 300 civilains have died as a result – and counting, had his Atty General perpetrate 3 Felony Counts of Perjury over it – the Justice Dept refused to press charges, & the Cover-up continues…

Obama aided terrorists in Libya & Egypt take over their nations…

Obama called the Ft. Hood Terrorist attack a case of (Jihadist) ‘Work Place violence’…

Obama’s 1st specualtion made during early stages of Boston attack was that he wouldn’t be surprised to find out it was an attakc by an American over taxes (as the attack was made ON ‘tax day’ – a veiled ‘shot’ at the ‘Conservative TEA Party. Sorry, Obama, TEA Party members are not like your buddy, Bill Ayers!)

Tussia & Saudi warned Obama of the Boston Bombers months ago…and they have the FBI release pirctures of the 2 bombers & ask Americans if they knew who they were…AND KNEW WHO THEY WERE (trying to set up this scam to say they never had prior warning, which would expose their massive FAILURE to stop this)!?
