Weiner: “I can’t say that they’re not going to be able to find another picture”

Just when we thought politics was not going to be fun any more, Anthony Weiner stands tall … in a manner of speaking. The disgraced former Congressman has been probing the idea of running for mayor, more than two years after he posted photos of his genitalia on Twitter. Does that mean the scandal is over? Weiner himself seems unsure of the answer, and The Hill immediately grasped the import:
Former Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.) said Wednesday there may be more controversial photos circulating from his time in Congress. …
“If reporters want to go try to find more, I can’t say that they’re not going to be able to find another picture, or find another — you know, person who may want to come out on their own, but I’m not going to contribute to that,” Weiner told RNN-TV.
“The basics of the story are not gonna change, it’s behind me, it was a huge mistake.”
Well, if Weiner can’t say that we won’t see another picture, that must mean that there are other pictures of his genitalia out there to find. After all, if we’d seen the only example(s) of Little Anthony that Weiner shared with his virtual friends, then he’d have no problem reassuring New York voters that the scandal is truly, er, behind him.
The Hill’s headline tells the real story: Weiner warns of more inappropriate pictures. Indeed, that’s exactly what he’s doing here — attempting to pre-empt another eruption by admitting it up front, albeit in a passive-aggressive manner. The only thing he does say with certainty is that he didn’t conduct in-person sexual affairs with any of them, which would seem normal by contrast.
So what led to the affair?
“What does this mean that I’m doing this? Is this risky behavior? Is this smart behavior? To me, it was just another way to feed this notion that I want to be liked and admired.’’
Running for office does the same thing, no? It feeds Weiner’s insecurities. Why, then, should New Yorkers or anyone else act as enablers for Weiner’s ego stroking? Other than the upcoming slide show, I mean.
