Video: Obama not handling gun-control failure in Senate very well

posted at 7:21 pm on April 17, 2013 by Allahpundit

I promised you a tantrum. Via Mediaite, here it is. It’s interesting to see what gets The One’s dander up, and what doesn’t:

Never mind Benghazi. Where was this supposedly righteous anger after Aurora? The victims in that case weren’t small children, but that can’t possibly explain O’s dramatically more subdued reaction after that shooting. They were innocent people too; many of them were young, if not kindergarteners. No angry Rose Garden press conferences freaking out about Senate inaction after Aurora, though. Any theories why? Anything, maybe, having to do with when that shooting happened vis-a-vis Newtown? Right: One of them came three months before a presidential election and the other came a month after. That’s the difference. As you watch him point the finger here at supposedly gutless senators who care more about retaining public office than Doing Something, remember that there’s hardly one among them who’s as attuned to political self-preservation as O. He kept his mouth shut nice and tight about guns when it was his own ass on the line last year in purple states; he ignored gun control almost completely when he had 60 Democratic votes in the Senate early in his first term; and as we know from the gay-marriage farce, he isn’t above lying outright to voters about his true positions in the name of getting elected. (Let’s not start on the many ways he’s followed Bush’s counterterrorism lead after selling himself to the left in ’08 as the anti-Bush on foreign policy.)

Given his record, there’s every reason to believe that what’s really bothering him is the fact that red-state Dems denied him an easy chance today to demagogue Republicans as the party of child murder or whatever, which he was hoping to use next year as a way to retake the House. Then, once he had a Democratic Congress again, he could pass some new horrible permutation of ObamaCare or immigration or the minimum wage or some other liberal wishlist item that has nothing to do with gun control. Just like in his first term! That’s what he’s mad about, that a political bludgeon was essentially taken out of his hands before he had a chance to use it to achieve unrelated goals. Says Rick Wilson:

And now he’s a lame duck, with few opportunities to pass something big and a real chance that he’ll end up with a fully Republican Congress in 2015. He might have no choice at this point but to try to tank the immigration bill too so that he’s got something to scream about next year. I wonder if Democrats will trip him up there too.

Here’s the transcript, in case you care.

I think what is truly shameful is the Newtown parents that were put up in the Senate gallery during the votes. That was done for media consumption not from any thought that these worthless props could move the needle on the numbers that were all but a foregone conclusion. I can’t imagine what it is like to lose a child this way but these people truly disgust me in their stupid partisanship. Not one thing being considered on the floor of the Senate would have saved their child and they damn well knew it.

That being said, the rat-eared coward got his vote now he should shut up. All he tells is lies like the bogus polling that 90% of Americans were passionate about expanded background checks. If that were true the bill would have passed in a walk with politicians of both parties clamoring to be co-sponsors. As it was, not one GOP vote beyond the four known traitors went for the bill.

Prioritizing Gun Violence Reduction Measures

Only 4% of Americans say that gun violence or gun issues constitute the most important problem facing the country today, based on our April 4-7 monthly update of the “most important problem” measure. This puts guns in the same 4% category as immigration issues, education, and the situation with North Korea.

This also puts guns — on this measure — well below a number of other economic and governmental issues

for something 99.9% of Americians “want” doesn’t seem like they are too worried about it. The politiicans should also look at the immigration numbers another “issue” most americians don’t care about until they secure the border.

The one activity I would eagerly support taxpayer funding for would be a daily Obama Bouncy Castle on the White House lawn. He could spend his mornings, afternoons, evenings, whatever works as long as it involves about six hours a day of his waking time, in his Bouncy Castle complaining about allll his resentments about America and us people.

We could even construct a little covered wing for the Bouncy Castle where Obama could go bow and engage in his Submission Act while listening to rap raging about America and all those White People — that “minority” Obama now bitterly denigrates — who love that Constitution-thingy, that old thing written by Old White People.

His speech starts about 4:30 into the linked Mediaite video and the above comes ~20 seconds in, at 4:50 . I’ve listened to it 3 times and there is absolutely zero indication of the “S” that actually comes at the end of Gabby Giffords’ name. Cloture and the super-majority rule is a product of the Woodrow Wilson era. He wanted it and 67 votes were necessary.

Only 5 American presidents have ever had a filibuster-proof Senate:

1. Wilson
2. FDR
3. LBJ
4. Carter (votes necessary reduced to 60)
5. Obama

Funny how Republican Presidents have managed to get things done without a filibuster-proof Senate, n’est-ce pas?

What I want answered is where does this “90% of Americans support” line come from? He used it, and it was repeated on NBCs Nightly News, CBS Evening News, and NPR (sorry I didn’t catch ABC). It was said over and over to the folks they had on you wanted the bill defeated. Anyone? ’90%’, where did this fairy tail get it’s birth certificate?

Hey Obama….Bite Me!

Sincerely,

Amazing to hear Obama complain that people “willfully lied” about the bill. That’s the pot calling the kettle black. The only “willful liar” is Obama, who hasn’t stopped lying since the day he was born.

How do you know Obama is lying? His lips are moving.

Kinda reminds me of the time he went to bring the Olympics to Chicago and came up empty.

And I will never forget that idiot on CNN, I think it was who was dumbfounded that Chicago wasn’t selected. He kept repeating Chicago is out!? Chicago is out!? Just couldn’t believe what he was hearing.

How embarrassing. The leader of the free world is a cry-baby.

No longer am I upset that obaka didn’t send an “official” to Maggie Thatcher’s memorial service….

he is livid at the cowards who have let the newtown victims die in vain

it is righteous anger

nonpartisan on April 17, 2013 at 7:44 PM

But I guess those newborn human beings acted stupidly, right, those globs of cells not considered human despite them yelling and screaming for their lives? Can’t speak about that, Obama can’t.

The word, “righteous,” does not belong in any context, any context at all, with Barack Obama. Or the Left. You all own the word, “corruption” as also the word, “amoral”. If you want descriptors, use those.
