Video: Obama not handling gun-control failure in Senate very well

posted at 7:21 pm on April 17, 2013 by Allahpundit

I promised you a tantrum. Via Mediaite, here it is. It’s interesting to see what gets The One’s dander up, and what doesn’t:

Never mind Benghazi. Where was this supposedly righteous anger after Aurora? The victims in that case weren’t small children, but that can’t possibly explain O’s dramatically more subdued reaction after that shooting. They were innocent people too; many of them were young, if not kindergarteners. No angry Rose Garden press conferences freaking out about Senate inaction after Aurora, though. Any theories why? Anything, maybe, having to do with when that shooting happened vis-a-vis Newtown? Right: One of them came three months before a presidential election and the other came a month after. That’s the difference. As you watch him point the finger here at supposedly gutless senators who care more about retaining public office than Doing Something, remember that there’s hardly one among them who’s as attuned to political self-preservation as O. He kept his mouth shut nice and tight about guns when it was his own ass on the line last year in purple states; he ignored gun control almost completely when he had 60 Democratic votes in the Senate early in his first term; and as we know from the gay-marriage farce, he isn’t above lying outright to voters about his true positions in the name of getting elected. (Let’s not start on the many ways he’s followed Bush’s counterterrorism lead after selling himself to the left in ’08 as the anti-Bush on foreign policy.)

Given his record, there’s every reason to believe that what’s really bothering him is the fact that red-state Dems denied him an easy chance today to demagogue Republicans as the party of child murder or whatever, which he was hoping to use next year as a way to retake the House. Then, once he had a Democratic Congress again, he could pass some new horrible permutation of ObamaCare or immigration or the minimum wage or some other liberal wishlist item that has nothing to do with gun control. Just like in his first term! That’s what he’s mad about, that a political bludgeon was essentially taken out of his hands before he had a chance to use it to achieve unrelated goals. Says Rick Wilson:

And now he’s a lame duck, with few opportunities to pass something big and a real chance that he’ll end up with a fully Republican Congress in 2015. He might have no choice at this point but to try to tank the immigration bill too so that he’s got something to scream about next year. I wonder if Democrats will trip him up there too.

Here’s the transcript, in case you care.

Have you ever gone through major grief?

libfreeordie on April 17, 2013 at 10:40 PM

Yeah, as Ace and Allah point out you’ve got to wonder at the things that get Obama riled up.

Benghazi? Nope.

Aurora? Nope.

Hundreds of murders in Chicago? Nope.

His legislation failing? Yes.

Benghazi – Not about him.
Aurora – Not about him.
Hundreds of murders in Chicago – Not about him.
His legislation failing – All about him.

Notice a pattern?

Indeed, those who voted to restrict one of the most important Amendments in the Bill of Rights did act shamefully, trading a little bit more freedom for some useless won’t stop anyone comfort… the righteous outrage and courage of those who spin their wheels just to spin them, while doing NOTHING to address the mentally ill who are allowed to block being committed, because liberals think their “rights” are more equal than their victims are.

The truly gutless here, are the demagogues who know this Bill changes nothing, but tried to ram it through just so they can beat their chests and pompously declare they’re simply honoring the victims..

Honoring the victims at the least should include something that actually would stop the mentally ill from refusing their medication and roaming the streets..

but that wouldn’t fit your narrative of bashing the part of America you piously hate, would it?

The petty small minded emotional thug of a man you voted for revealed to the country what a single minded nasty little weasel he is yesterday.. expect his numbers to fall now in the polls.. American’s can forgive a lot, but not that kind of petty nastiness in a president.

Many here predicted this,.. when free of being elected again, the real Obama would show himself..

my,.. how tiny he looks now, like a spoiled frat boy stripped of his daddy’s platinum card. The only thing missing was his stamping his feet and shaking his fists like the arrested development child he is.

On trial in Philadelphia is a medical doctor accused of murdering live-born children expelled from the womb in the third trimester. I do not care to be lectured on the protection of children by a man who, as an Illinois State Senator, voted to legalize that sort of behavior. it is even more repellent when he hectors from the cover of somewhat older children.

Further, I do not care to be lectured on “gun control” by the party that pretty much as party platform policy flatly refuses to defend our southern border. The easily extrapolated reality is that as legal weapons become more difficult to obtain, illegal weapons will rush in with the tons of illegal narcotics that cross that border every hour. The difference will be that fewer legal weapons will be owned by the law-abiding, while millions more will be owned by criminals.

And to be perfectly honest, I know longer care to have any sort of national discussion with the people of the left. I would rather meet you in the street with the weapon you wish to confiscate … maybe someday.

I love when Barry doesn’t get his way. It makes me happy to see him so upset.

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

Suck on that Barry. Suck on it.

My guns are locked away in a gun safe that is virtually impenetrable to anyone with less than a few days on their hands. I take them out to clean them, or to visit the range, and then lock them away again, safe and sound. The guy who you’re after has them in the trunk of his car – stolen or purchased in some crack house in a transaction no one could track. Tell me how this legislation stops him again? Just curious.

As no rational person with a shred of common sense could possibly believe that it could, it must be me that you’re after.

Guess what? I have a pit bull, too. She’s a sweet heart. Her name is Serra.

That’s a couple of things you can pry out of my cold, dead hands.

And, you can’t stand it.

I know.

Because, it entails personal responsibility.

I agree! Remove the un-Constitutional “No Gun Zone” areas! Offer free training to school officials in firearm safety! Allow voluntary concealed carry for teachers/admins! NO MORE stripping people of their ability to defend themselves against criminals!

I’m for common-sense gun laws that WOULD actually curb violence!

Yes King Putt, indeed since you arrived and occupied the White House … EVERY DAY is a sham in DC.

Missilengr on April 18, 2013 at 3:39 PM

El Rushbo nailed this today. He noted that the REB was not enraged because the bill went down, he was enraged because it went down in the Senate.

His plan was to get it through the Senate so it could fail in the House, and he could use that in the fight for the House in 2014. Now his plan is busted because it failed in the Senate which democratics control.

slickwillie2001 on April 18, 2013 at 4:10 PM

Not to refute el Rushbo……..but Obysmal wasn’t enraged because it went down in the senate.
The Marxist raised Occupier of the WH KNEW it was going down in the senate – there was no surprise there. He tried to make the best of his dog and pony show. You knew something was up when he was parading around the Newtown parents, using them for every ounce of emotional leverage he could get out of them. Used and abused…..vey sad for these people.

Oh, and this cry for humanity comes from this Chicago wannabe thug who has killed over 300 innocent civilians with his drone strikes, as the media looks the other way.

Outrage abounds.
