Quotes of the day

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) blitzed all five Sunday shows in his most public pitch yet for the emerging immigration reform bill, arguing that it would control the border, and rejecting conservative criticisms that it provided “amnesty” for illegal immigrants in the country.

“This is not amnesty. Amnesty is the forgiveness of something. Amnesty is anything that says ‘do it illegally, it’ll be cheaper and easier,’” Rubio, a member of the bipartisan ‘Gang of Eight’ senators set to unveil their immigration bill on Tuesday, said on “Fox News Sunday.”…

Rubio also pushed back against a report from the conservative Heritage Foundation that immigration reform would be costly to the government. A similar report helped derail immigration reform six years ago by undercutting conservative support for the measure.

“Conservatives love dynamic scoring,” he said, arguing the bill’s effects should be taken on the whole and not just looked at from what it would cost the government. “This will be a net positive for our country now and for the future.”

“On any issue where there is progress being made, we don’t want to get in the way,” said a senior administration official who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss the White House legislative strategy and assess its prospects. “Every one of these issues has potential pitfalls and potential opportunities.”

Inside the White House, the issue is being managed by Cecilia Muñoz, director of the Domestic Policy Council. Administration officials acknowledge that immigration is the issue on which they can be the most patient, given that many Republicans are eager to repair relations with the fast-growing Latino electorate after the November election.

While Obama has allowed Senate negotiators to work on a compromise that can win approval, a White House staff member attends each staff-level meeting to monitor progress and assist with the technical aspects of writing the bill.

“We know we have the upper hand on immigration,” the administration official said, acknowledging that Obama has far less sway when it comes to gun-control measures and the budget.

The details that Sen. Sessions cites as troubling include:

– Instead of securing the border first, it merely requires DHS to submit a plan (within 6 months) to achieve modest enforcement goals at some point in the next 10 years in exchange for an immediate grant of amnesty. History tells us the enforcement part will never effectively happen.

– Even the border security’s future targets are weak: the plan only requires DHS to state what resources DHS needs in order to apprehend 90% of those illegal immigrants the border patrol sees – but not those who successfully evade border patrol altogether.

– Increased security is called for only in certain areas of the southwest border, leaving huge vulnerabilities to cartels and other illegal immigrants.

[A]dvocates of immigration amnesty would now like to deny the obvious: that even talk of amnesty is a powerful magnet for more illegal border-crossing. They should go to South Texas, where the rush has already started, according to a report from WOAI in San Antonio…

Weren’t these recent crossers the people the New York Times told us didn’t exist anymore? Specifically, the Times, and the Washington Examiner ‘s Michael Barone, tell us that we’ll never see anything like the surges of illegal immigration that followed the last amnesty, in 1986. Given Mexico’s declining birthrate, there’s just nobody left to come, the theory goes–and the people who do leave the countryside are going to work in Mexico’s growing economy. I doubt the current surge is yet big enough to contradict this convenient demographic deus ex machina. But it’s not a good sign. We don’t know that Mexico’s economy will keep growing, or that ours won’t boom. Plus, there is still Central America to provide a steady flow of impoverished itinerants.

If this is the surge we get after some Washington pundits begin talking about amnesty, imagine what will happen now that Marco Rubio is continuously on every television channel, including the Home Shopping Network, confidently pitching his amnesty plan.

Immigrations and Customs Enforcement agents’ union president Chris Crane called on Florida Republican Sen. Marco Rubio to abandon the bipartisan “Gang of Eight” in the U.S. Senate pushing immigration reform on Friday in a statement obtained exclusively by Breitbart News.

“Senator Rubio was asked during a recent interview that ‘if you don’t get enforcement first, or securing the borders first, is that a deal killer for you?,’” Crane said. “And he replied ‘Absolutely…Because we will be right back here again.’ But the outline from the Gang of 8 offers legalization, or amnesty, before enforcement is accomplished. Senator Schumer admitted as much: ‘we’ve come to a basic agreement, which is that first, people will be legalized…Then, we will make sure the border is secure.’ I would then respectfully call on Senator Rubio to follow through on his commitment to the American people — and his pledge to accomplish enforcement before legalization – and to leave the Gang of 8.”

When President Obama met with House Republicans in March, he told them he was doing them “a favor” by pushing the immigration issue.

According to a senior Republican in the meeting, Obama told House members that he was “doing you all [Republicans] a favor” by highlighting the immigration issue, since he had received about 75 percent of the Hispanic vote and the current debate offers the GOP a chance to impress the demographic.

“All we’ve done here is create an alternative to that that they can access, and the alternative we’ve created is going to be longer, more expensive and more difficult to navigate,” Rubio said this morning on “This Week.” “It will actually be cheaper if they went back home, waited 10 years, and applied for a green card. And so, secondly, we’ve not awarding anything. All we’re giving people the opportunity to eventually do is gain access to the same legal immigration system, the same legal immigration process that will be available to everybody else.”

No – I got that cat man.

Totally.

I guess I am just more Concerned with how far we ARE from that – or any OTHER accurate description of our government processes right now.

We’re not there – so we really are NOT ANY of those terms right now.

Regardless of our determination to fight this – the people that are subverting our form of government are doing it RIGHT IN FRONT OF US……and THEN they are coming on TV and Laughing In Our Faces About IT – with The Media RIGHT NEXT TO THEM!

WE are powerless right now to STOP them from subverting our government – THEY have the POWER to TAKE OUR GOVERNMENT AWAY FROM US. By “they” I mean The D.C. Politicians WITH The Media. They KNOW this. They KNOW that we can’t stop them.

And they are TAUNTING US about it!

It makes me SICK!!

The media, the politicians and their cronies are all in bed together, especially on matters the elite and their cronies care about, but the interests of the ruling class and the country are in increasingly severe conflict. If Rubio were representing the American people, and Republican voters in particular, opposing amnesty, he wouldn’t have been invited on any of the Sunday “news” shows.

The measure of a Republican sellout is often by how many Sunday “news” show he’s been on, and Rubio just broke the record.

What has happened is that the ruling class has been profligate for decades, all of their corruption has been piling up and a natural reaction is unavoidable. When it happens the ruling class will lose control and their power. If they don’t find a bunch of voters that share their world-socialist agenda, the American people are going to free themselves.

But if the enemies of American sovereignty, if the globalists get their way they will replace the Constitution and Bill of rights with UN treaties and people like Obama and Rubio and their cronies in various industries and special interests will win and the United State of America that I’m loyal to will be no more. I am not loyal to the UN, I consider the UN to be my enemy. I don’t believe in any conspiracies, I don’t think the UN is going to take over America by force with black helicopters, I think the UN is a joke. But it is a dangerous joke. The UN represents all the governments of the world, and the vast majority of them represent one form of tyranny or another. Some of them are more fascist or more socialist than others, but all of them suck compared to the America that I was born and raised in. But they are the majority.

I think in order to save America, the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, we need to quit the UN and kick it out of America. In the process of doing that, we need to dump traitors like Rubio.

well, it turns out that the shear power that obama has, and is willing to use, neuters the R party

http://washingtonexaminer.com/a-look-deep-inside-the-gang-of-eight-bill-and-how-theyll-sell-immigration-reform-to-conservatives/article/2527162

basically Rs have to grab some crumbs while they can before ‘I an not a dictator’ proclaims amnesty by fiat

transformation leader indeed. He has used fiat before, and relishes using it again..

Read all the way to the end to see the fear in the eyes of the Rs.

r keller on April 15, 2013 at 3:45 AM

If they don’t find a bunch of voters that share their world-socialist agenda, the American people are going to free themselves.

To elaborate, what I meant was, assuming Rand Paul opposes this amnesty bill and thus saves his political career, he is likely to be the next President, and young people are trending more that direction, so I think it’s possible that the authoritarian status quo is about to lose control potentially for generations to come, and thus in order to save themselves the ruling class needs to import a large number of world-socialist voters. If they import enough of them there will be no peaceful way through the political process for the American people to save themselves.

But this is America, the ruling class is not supposed to use deceitful propaganda to force their will against the will and informed consent of the American people. Monumental bills that transform the USA are not supposed to be negotiated in secret backroom deals between lying, scumbag politicians and big-money cronies, then shoved down Americas’ throat against their will.

Amnesty is a sign of the ruling class’ desperation. Just think about it; America has 90 million working age American who’ve given up looking for work, probably living at home with their parents or with friends or on the streets, and another 10 million or so on unemployment, and we’re going to import tens of millions of illegal aliens and their chain-migrating families? That’s nuts!

If the ruling class does this, shoves this down the nations throat, it will be a dark day in American history.

FloatingRock on April 15, 2013 at 3:46 AM

listens2glenn on April 15, 2013 at 3:35 AM

PURGE THE UN!!!

FloatingRock on April 15, 2013 at 4:14 AM

The UN is a threat to America!

FloatingRock on April 15, 2013 at 4:17 AM

In the process of writing my comments here tonight it has dawned on me for the first time that it is imperative for America to get rid of the UN ASAP, however, political reality being what it is, if we can’t get rid of the UN completely then perhaps we could at least move it somewhere outside of the current centers of corruption: Chicago, NY and especially Washington DC. Let’s at least try to move the UN to someplace, like maybe Kansas City. No insult intended to Kansas City, it’s centrally located.

Right in line with the reporting that Gosnell’s employees had no other options but to kill children.

This is about shifting blame and the scapegoat seems to be a society that ignores little black children in the slums of Philidelphia. If Gosnell had been working in an affluent white suburb like Newtown CT, betcha the narrative would be entirely different.

As we once again face the specter of illegal alien amnesty, and the permanent Democratic majority it will guarantee, it is critical to understand how the Left plays. They are unethical to the core, but we are so frequently deluded by their tactical use of language and emotion, that we are unequipped to deal with them effectively. The result: they win. This cannot happen again, unless we are all willing to start calling Obama “President for Life,” and Democrats, the “Commissars.”

thatsafactjack on April 15, 2013 at 12:07 AM

LOL. What’s the problem? There are probably thousands of jobs in Tulsa that poor, uneducated, unskilled, non-English-speaking Burmese are qualified for.

And if not, well what’s a few thousand more poor foreigners on our food stamp, Medicaid, and welfare rolls going to matter anyway? So long as we have paper and green ink, we can support all the world’s poor.

To quote the brilliant Hillary: What difference, at this point, does it make?

What he’s really saying is that poor black women are too stupid to realize that they can adopt out babies that they are unable or unwilling to care for themselves.

The women were desperate, because they were too ignorant to realize that they had other options besides late term abortion/infanticide.

It’s a pretty raaaaaacist attitude, wouldn’t you say?

AZCoyote on April 15, 2013 at 8:44 AM

If they’re in the shadows now and not paying taxes and the govt doesn’t know who they are, why if they went back home would they have to wait 10 years to get back into a line? This argument doesn’t make sense just like the promise to secure the border first. Where’s the plan for that? If they’re here illegally now and have a job, what’s to stop them from just staying and working? Why give up the shadow if you have to pay back taxes. News flash for MR, it is amnesty.

And Biden calls for a “new world order” and Kerry welcomes China to buy up America.

http://www.weeklystandard.com/blogs/kerry-welcomes-chinese-investment-americas-infrastructure_716360.html

“We welcome Chinese investment in the United States. And a very, very small percentage of investment is subject to a process where we have a security evaluation because of the nature of the business or the particular location. But it’s very, very few; very, very little. And obviously, there are sometimes concerns when there’s a state ownership of a particular business because that raises a different set of considerations,” Kerry said, in response to a question about what he said to encourage Chinese investment in America.

“But for true private sector private investment, we have countless opportunities and we welcome that investment. One of the things I’ve discussed with the State Councilor tonight was the possibility of China investing in infrastructure. We have proposals in the United States Congress to creature infrastructure bank.

We have huge infrastructure needs in the United States for a certain series of projects like water projects, transportation projects, energy projects. Those are all revenue-producing projects. So they are projects from which pension funds and other kinds of investments can make a return on investment and everybody benefits. It’s a win-win-win. It’s a win for the investors, it’s a win for the countries, and ultimately it’s a win for the place where the infrastructure gets built.

INFRASTRUCTURE BANK……code for the Ruling Class steering projects to their buddies in big business, all the while robbing the income producers.

Well, that’s the exact problem, isn’t it?… politicians telling us one thing when they’re on the stump, then going to D.C. and doing something else?

The GOP scratched its head and wondered where it had gone wrong after Romney’s loss, but isn’t THIS what’s at the very heart of the issue?.. that they’ve lost our trust?.. that they’re “the same” as the Democrats they purport to oppose? A Democrat is lying whenever his lips are moving, but what makes Republicans any different when they tell us one thing and then go do another. If your words and your actions don’t meet, hey… that’s the litmus test for bull patties.

Republicans told us on the stump that they were against amnesty, that they were for the rule of law, that they the were against great, unwieldy, “comprehensive” bills written with lobbyists behind closed doors, that they were for common sense approaches to the economy. But instead, we get more of everything we hate and despise about Washington politicians.

The irony is that in their efforts to figure out what went wrong, why Republican voters didn’t show up… they’ve doubled-down on their mistakes. To add insult to injury, their immigration scheme will undoubtedly fail. Millions of illegals will take their amnesty and then vote Democrat, and millions more will jump the border, leaving the GOP as a permanent minority party and the country crippled by the arbitrary whims of Democrats.

I watched Rubio try to make sense in the beginning and was willing to defend him, but then he kept conceding and conceding and conceding. Now he’s trying to champion a Dem catastrophe.
Didn’t hurt turning to Apple either. Stop farting dust and get with the program!

I am disappointed with the shrill attacks on Rubio, but I agree that he has not structured this right for his conservative constituents. It is fundamentally flawed and gives legal residency to illegal aliens without solving the problem of securing the borders. He views the primary issue as “what do we do about these illegal alien residents?” – Just like Scummer and Durbin. It isn’t. The primary issue is “how do we manage immigration?” And these Senate maggots just don’t care about the country … It’s all about staying in The Club.

Anybody seen or heard anything about this?
Evidently, Seattle is not the only place this is going on.
