New MSNBC promo: You have the right to health care, education, housing, and food at all times

posted at 3:21 pm on April 10, 2013 by Allahpundit

Via Newsbusters, something to tide you over on a news day that started out fast and has slowed considerably. Give Harris-Perry credit, at least, for fine-tuning her messaging. You’re not going to sell swing voters on far-left liberalism by telling them their kids don’t really belong to them, but tell them that they have a right “at all times” to things they need and you’re golden. If you polled the public on whether people should have a right to all of this, where would the numbers top out? Seventy percent? Eighty? The American public loves, loves, loves government spending, partly because they’re never asked to consider the zero-sum nature of federal expenditures in a budget that balances and partly because they still don’t fully appreciate the consequences of endless borrowing. Both parties spent years shrugging at the fallacy that current spending levels can be supported by current tax rates. Under those circumstances, why wouldn’t the average low-information think everyone should have the right to housing, food, etc? Throw in the right to phone service and personal transportation while you’re at it. Put it on our collective tab.

Note, per Newsbusters, that she’s all for having the most productive members of society earn “a little more.” Whew. By the way, if you think these promos are bad now, just wait.

Only if you promise to keep voting in dems to provide you with that living.

She may not be, if she is so fortunate to be included among the select elite who make and enforce the rules, but are personally exempt themselves. Since she’s a leftist university professor, so as long as she conforms to what’s expected of her, i.e. continue indoctrinating, she’ll be fine.

hawkeye54 on April 10, 2013 at 6:26 PM

Right, what the left is in the process of creating is two separate and distinct classes. Them, the rich, privileged ruling class not subject to the rules imposed on us, the miserable poor servant class.

NO. They are in the process of creating a huge pseudointellectual middle class that think in the preferred manner. They know they cannot eliminate the poor. They know destroying the rich will clip their wings. They only want to preserve their power base.

2 questions, probably irrelevant. First does anyone recognize from the background where this is being filmed? Especially curious about the statue. Second does anyone have any idea what the “little bit more” is that Ms Perry is paid each year?

Oh, I really wasn’t referring to you, otherwise I would have quoted; and have followed your posts here well enough to know that you aren’t inexperienced at this sort of stuff….

But, I’ve noticed that the general trend here at HA seems to be that a lot of people think that having a couple of firearms and a big pile of ammo is the most important thing to have for TEOTWAWKI. I was snarking at ‘the peanut gallery’, no one person in particular.

Naturally the poor will always exist, but even in this scenario, I suspect those in the pseudo intellectual middle class will probably not be in “exempted from rules” status unless they are able to promote, although failure to obey may find them demoted. :)

Once they have power they no longer need the vote. They know they can’t sustain such a level of entitlements. Once America is disarmed they can, and will do anything they please. It’s happened before, it will happen again.

Duly noted:) I am three years away from realizing sanctuary, and I can’t wait, retirement and the country estate will be my universe there after. We modified a bit on our plan, as a camper will be our back up piece, cheaper and you can move it, especially if you have several alternate locations;)

O.K. fine. I give. I’ll be a good little socialistic leech on society. Now where does Ms. Harris Hyphen Perry live because I want to start by crashing at her place and getting something to eat. Does a foot rub fall under health care? Maybe she could throw in some more socialist pointers to cover the education part. Say, I could get to like this.

Dude! She’ll point out that she’s not personally responsible for feeding you! The government IS!! That is why other people pay taxes, so you can leach off taxpayers, not her, personally.

hawkeye54 on April 10, 2013 at 7:17 PM

Far too many people abuse that right already.

darwin on April 10, 2013 at 6:56 PM

Actually, let’s face it. They will always need the façade of Democracy to legitimize their rule. Otherwise, they risk lumping the middle class with the poor. The rich utilize the political class to cement their status. The political class does the same. The poor have no power, other than their vote. And their vote depends on their wallet. The middle class has always had the luxury of thinking for themselves. That’s what makes them dangerous to the status quo. Disarming really has nothing to do with it. There are far too many in the lower tiers for the rich and political to deal with. They must keep them at odds.

But the golden goose has become anorexic. Now MSNBC must pull out all the stops. Will it play in Peoria? We’ll find out.

2) Make very, very, very, very sure you don’t see the bill until it’s too late

When “rights” are defined as something that requires one to provide to another, we have ceased to have any rights at all.

The Left has a full frontal assault on the language. We must, in turn, double our efforts to have a full frontal assault to take the language back. We must be twice as relentless as they are.

Great Britain has had something *like* this for years. What it has produced is a sub-population of people who screech that they DESERVE council housing, or a bigger council house because they have eight or ten children while never once having a job to support them, and more food, and on and on and on. People never want LESS of what they get for free, but once they believe they have a right to it – God help you if you ever suggest they should make do with less.

We really don’t want to go there. That’s where the riots come from. Austerity? What’s that? It means people get less of what they think they deserve, and it makes them angry. Mobs result. No thank you.

Q1: What are the eligibility requirements for someone being provided with housing, food, and health care at no cost to themselves.

A1: The only requirement is their need. If they need it it must be provided.

Q2: Why is having these provided being touted as a “right”.

A2: To do otherwise stigmatizes the recipient and implies that eligibility is based on the recipient being unable to provide these for himself. See Q1.

Q3: Who are the slaves who will provide these things?

A3: Look in the mirror.

Very true….I believe Orwell witnessed that himself during the Spanish Civil War. Trust and faith in your fellow travelers is often lacking. Suspicion reigns.

We all have to have a very serious talk about the difference between a “right” and an “entitlement”.

We all have natural, Constitutional, and Civil “rights”. I have the right to breath, walk down the street, and do most all every day type activities. These are my natural rights. And yes, they include a right to have a home, food, etc.

These are totally different than “entitlements”. I am not “entitled” to much. Our “entitlements” only include things authorized by law. These include such things as welfare, SS, Medicaid/care, etc.

Assuming this Harris-Perry person means “rights” and is not confusing the word with “entitlements”, then I think I have to agree with her. I do have a right to these things. However, I am not “entitled” to demand them from someone else, including the government, unless specifically authorized in law.

I doubt she truly understands the difference and is likely trying to propagandize the MSNBC audience to confuse the two concepts and is being deceptive in the presentation in order to communicate the idea that everyone is entitled to these things.

What a dope. I wouldn’t let that fool walk my dog.

But go right ahead and turn over your kids to that “community” who believes gratuitous sex with multiple partners is “liberating” (as are the diseases and risks), killing your child (just because they are not born yet) is a right, felons are just “misunderstood” (and calling them felons is discriminatory or something), your healthcare (as you engage in every unhealthy practice) should be paid for by someone else, legal guns kill people (not the mentally unbalanced or criminals), your consumption of Big Gulps and salt (and whatever they can think of next)are within the states rights to regulate, etc., etc.

Why doesn’t the 50% non-productive half of the country, produce ANYTHING?

GeeWhiz on April 10, 2013 at 6:48 PM

because they experienced sitting on their azz for too long to know differently and they have been told since early ages by ‘educators’ like that imbecile in the video that that’s ok, there’s nothing wrong or shameful about being unemployed, it’s just a (perpetual) ‘phase’ in their (under)development, so naturally they decided that they like that ‘phase’ and their govt is more than happy to indulge their ‘little’ azz-sitting weakness, since they need voters to keep them in the positions where they can do most damange to this country. And anyways, why the commo, there will always be 100 millions hard working suckerz to finance their ‘weakness’ and pick up theinsane govt tabs…

A few years ago on my blog I argued that marriage needs to consist of 1) the production of new people and 2) the raising of these new people in a miniature society called the family. Homosexual couples can engage in part 2 but not part 1. I further argued that it is unwise to separate these two parts and make marriage only about part 2 in order to allow gay marriage because it would entail that the biological parents would not have any particular right to be the family that raises the children they produce. But biological parents are those most predisposed to look out for a child’s welfare. This is a general statement, since there are exceptions, but that doesn’t negate it. Moreover, it’s not a statement of how things should be, but of how things are. So if we change the concept of marriage so that the production of new people plays no role in it, I don’t see what right the child would have to be raised by those most inclined to look out for the child’s best interests, or what right the parents would have to raise the children they sired and birthed.

I feared that these conclusions would sound alarmist. Apparently I was behind the curve.

Sometimes the only comfort I can find is to reflect that their day is coming. When things really go down and we find ourselves living on the set of Revolution or Jericho or whatever post-apocalyptic scenario you want to think of, what will these fools do? Who will want to trade her a bushel of corn for Barbershops, Bibles, and BET: Everyday Talk and Black Political Thought, or give her some of their venison for Sister Citizen: Shame, Stereotypes, and Black Women in America.? Who will have the time to listen to her yakking on about racism and paternalism in a time when people are fighting for their very existence? What happens to her mental health when she finally has to face the idea that life is inherently a risky place and civilization is only just a thin veneer over the ugliness of it? That only works as long as the system sustains itself with hard work? That she was the termite in the beam of her own house, weakening the very system that sustained her with her liberal lunacy? These fools will be shellshocked. What exactly will this lady’s Ph.D. in political science do for her then? My Master’s, on the other hand, will actually come in handy because it will help me save lives.

That is Jackson Square in The French Quarter of New Orleans, La. The statue is a statue of Andrew Jackson and you can see the cathedral behind it. That is where I was born and raised; I would know it anywhere. :)

WWAJD?
Pass the bacon and the beans; I’m sure we have a right to those, too.
And God love you right back.

I suspect quite a few people confuse the two terms, and quite a few more confuse the issue on purpose; the intent of the Left is precisely to get the entitlements they demand authorized in law.

What the hell’s wrong with her?! She completely forgot that you have a fundamental right to a wireless phone an Obama Phone!! Is she trying to take away my rights?
