Gun-rights testimony from a communism survivor: “You don’t know what freedom is, because you’ve never lost it”

posted at 2:41 pm on April 8, 2013 by Erika Johnsen

I am always amazed — amazed — when anyone has the gall to dismiss, even laugh off, the suggestion that the right to keep and bear arms is a smart and necessary provision for a free society. Human history (not to mention current events!) is too chock-full of examples of nefarious regimes violently abusing and controlling their people, and the freedoms enjoyed by American citizens are the exception, not the rule. During a committee hearing of the Oregon state senate in considering their own state package of gun-control legislation last week, one testifier reminded the assembled lawmakers of one of the Second Amendment’s most crucial purposes, and of the real-world consequences of neglecting that purpose.

This guy.

In 1957 a Revolution … individuals … malicious individuals, masquerading as Democrats, revolutionaries, established a regime … a dictatorial regime … in my nation.  Called Communism, Socialism, Stalinism, Marxism, and whatever other named -ism you want to put on it.  The reason why it was done was to take away the guns from the People.   The right of the People to wear guns.  That is a God-given Right.  It’s not given by anybody.  It’s not given by any group.   It’s the same thing as freedom, which is a God-given Right.  And no one, absolutely no one, has the authority to take it away.  To cease to defend the Second Amendment, and my God-given Right of freedom, will cease only with my death.

I’ve been through it.  I’ve been there.  You people don’t know what freedom is because you never lost it.  You haven’t been tortured.  You haven’t been [sic] assassinations, you haven’t been mothers begging for the life of their son not to be killed because the only reason is they wanted to be free.  And they killed the mothers and they killed the son.

So my way to protest, the way to oppose, because if we keep tangling with the Second Amendment, we are open the same way that Cuba was open for Communism.  China, Poland, Hungary, Czechoslovakia, Venezuela, on and on.  A dictatorial regime that will destroy this country, in the same way that it destroyed those ones that I mentioned to you.

Powerful.

yes, I have. do you guys make love to the constitution, can you ever make an argument without falling back on the constitution?

nonpartisan on April 8, 2013 at 5:39 PM

What should we fall back to? Mob Rule?

I say lets give nonpartisan a lesson in what that means? Who is in favor of booting him out of this country?

The constitution is the ground rules for the country which is why it takes a lot to make a change to it. It should be hard to change your ground rules in life, at work, or government.

So we are the bad guys for supporting simple rules for the union of states, which out which we have no union of states and thus no United States. Have you idiots even digested what that means?

William Eaton on April 8, 2013 at 5:48 PM

um, how is that inconsistent. crime can still be high while death are reduced. ie if a guy who would’ve used a gun instead used a knife, there will still be a crime but no longer a death. get it?

nonpartisan on April 8, 2013 at 5:38 PM

I just showed you that violent deaths were not reduced in the UK and Australia after their gun bans. Instead violent crime increased as criminals figured out law abiding citizens were much easier prey now. What the Fluke is wrong with you?

I call bull. I don’t think you’ve ever read it, at least not in detail. It’s not hard, but the words are like Holy water to liberal minds, so I can understand your reluctance to expose yourself to common sense!

Besides, it is the Law of the Land that trumps all others. So why shouldn’t we appeal to the highest law?

dominigan on April 8, 2013 at 5:50 PM

In a democracy, a majority of voters can take away your rights. In a constitutional republic, you have rights that cannot be taken away by a majority. It is the constitution that protects minorities from the tyranny of the majority.

A quote of Heinlein’s you are most likely familiar with occurred to me regarding your intelligent response to an unintelligent troll:

Never try and teach a pig to sing: it’s a waste of time, and it annoys the pig.

You do admirable and inspiring work on your blog. While away your time with the ‘pigs’ if it provides you even modest enjoyment, but consider the time you spend on the ‘pigs’ is time you could be spending on a more receptive audience.

I come from a very liberal family. A niece and grand-niece have recent Facebook posts espousing “subsidized by goverment compensation motherhood status” (How Third Reich of her!!!) and “universal midwife services provided ‘free’ by government” (guess who is studying to be a midwife?) – yet neither noted a complete lack of ‘Likes’ or comments in support of their socialist agenda.

I offered no comment on either post since the critical thinking capabilities of the two combined would be too small to be measured.

dominigan on April 8, 2013 at 5:50 PM

Because Original Intent gets in the way of liberal plans and notions for the kind of future they envision and are striving to achieve. To get it, some things are going to have to be restricted, if not fully prohibited. Pick any major college campus to see what the whole country will one day look like if liberals’ dreams come true. Start with the concept of ‘hate speech’, which is totally subjective to the person offended. It goes way beyond the limits of free speech that can trigger riots.

Then there is the arbitrary and vindictive punishment of a student who refused to do an exercise where he had to write the name of Jesus on a piece of paper and stomp on it. He is banned from attending any classes for blowing the whistle, while the prof is taking a vacation or something.

Liberals do not like the Constitution at all, except when they need it for themselves at the expense of others.

Nonpartisan is a religious zealot! Like all mystical prophets they can never do wrong. And to think….they call conservatives religious nuts!

Like most progressives they have simply replaced Christianity or Judaism with some other “religion” because they feel lonely and weak without a supreme being. In this case that supreme being is Obama! LOL! Sad really….I mean if you are going to have a Supreme Being at least make sure or give him enough power to float about, or make at least 50% of his shots in basketball while not being guarded….or balance a budget…or heck even be able to defend himself without the aide of simple mortals. Gods do not need mortals….

Folks, just for the edification of the trolls/liberals here, I think it is worth noting:

John Lott did the definitive scientific study on the correlation between gun ownership and violent crime back in the early 1990′s. It took years for his research to be widely publicized, but there is absolutely a proportional relationship between gun ownership and violent crime. The more guns are owned in a jurisdiction, the less violent crime there is. And yes Non-Peabrain-Partisan, that means fewer deaths as well as fewer robberies, muggings, Etc.

gryphon202 on April 9, 2013 at 9:32 AM

II.F.1.06 System Firearms Policy

It is the policy of this System to prohibit the carrying of firearms, knives and clubs onto any of the System’s facilities. The possession of firearms, illegal knives and prohibited knives on System facilities including parking areas and publicly accessed facilities is a violation of criminal law and Board policies. This prohibition includes licensed concealed handguns except as otherwise allowed by state law.
