New MSNBC idea: Let’s interview a five-year-old to get her take on gay marriage

posted at 4:46 pm on April 5, 2013 by Allahpundit

Via Politico’s Dylan Byers, who’s apparently been rendered speechless by this spectacle.

The idea here, I take it, was to show that supporting gay marriage is so obvious that even a five-year-old can arrive at the right conclusion if left to reason her way through it. That’s not how it comes off; you get the sense that this segment would have run for 20 minutes, with Krystal Ball nudging all the way, if that’s how long it would have taken to arrive at the favored result. I hope they keep this up and expand it to other hot-button issues. I’d be awfully curious to see what a five-year-old thinks of, say, abortion.

Update: “Billy, would you be excited if your mommy said you were going to have a little brother? But what if mommy was sad about that? You don’t want mommy to be sad, do you? You’d support mommy if she asked the doctor to vacuum your brother out of her belly, wouldn’t you? Sure you would.”

Update: “Janie, is it a good thing to spend money you don’t have? What about spending lots and lots and lots of money you don’t have? Even if people were willing to lend you the money? Just say ‘yes,’ Janie, okay?”

Yeah, when confronted with the concept of “husband and husband” what is his initial reaction:

“That’s funny.”

John the Libertarian on April 6, 2013 at 10:19 AM

Just going by what I read. Don’t shoot the messenger.

11 Now I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse. And He who sat on him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and makes war. 12 His eyes were like a flame of fire, and on His head were many crowns. He had[e] a name written that no one knew except Himself. 13 He was clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God. 14 And the armies in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean,[f] followed Him on white horses. 15 Now out of His mouth goes a sharp[g] sword, that with it He should strike the nations. And He Himself will rule them with a rod of iron. He Himself treads the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. 16 And He has on His robe and on His thigh a name written:

KING OF KINGS AND
LORD OF LORDS.
Rev. 19: 11-16

In righteousness… He judges and makes war.
Jesus
judges… and makes war? Not quite the nice picture of Jesus we see so much from Hollywood.

People think Jesus is forever this lowly poor old nice man forever knocking on the door of their hearts begging “Can I please come in now! Please!”

No.. Revelation shows who Jesus really is! He is coming back and, as the Bible says.

“‘He shall rule them with a rod of iron;
They shall be dashed to pieces like the potter’s vessels’[j]—

And…

That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;

11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord,
Philp. 2:10-11

Notice this says every knee and every tongue? That’s because it actually means every knee and every tongue. All he living and all the dead and every spirit that ever walked anywhere.. will bow and confess “Jesus is Lord.” It will no longer be optional to reject Jesus.

Oh.. and as for people who want to pervert a child’s heart. Lets see how God feels about that.

“…but whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to stumble, it would be better for him to have a heavy millstone hung around his neck, and to be drowned in the depth of the sea.” Mat. 18:6

Boy.. that just seems so harsh of Jesus doesn’t it. He needed some of the Republican consultant disciples to pull him aside there and warn him “Gosh Jesus.. you’re going to lose the gay vote and the independents with that one. Ease up a little.”

Oh well.

We all understand the concept of earthly kings and kingdoms. In any kingdom.. a king’s word is law. You don’t walk around dissing the king and live for very long. Whether that king is good or evil. We understand the concept.
If a king makes a law.. you obey the law. You get caught disobeying the law.. you pay the penalty. It’s like this in every nation regardless of government.

But we always think God is different. Like His laws are optional because He loves us.

Jesus is King. He gives us the opportunity and choice now.. at this time and in this life to follow Him or not. We can live on this earth in this life in complete rebellion against God spitting on his name every day.. and eat and drink and love and have fun all the days of our earthly life while rejecting Him all the way. But when this life is over… then comes judgement. But there is another time coming too… when He returns in physical form. Then.. it’s no longer an option. He will return as He really is.. King of kings and Lord of lords. He will set up His Kingdom and He will judge and destroy those who have committed war against Him.

You can interpret that to mean what you want.

A couple others to throw in the mix:

Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. And a man’s foes shall be they of his own household.
(Matt 10:34-36)

Nope, Jesus is not the sweet, benevolent, nice old guy that He is so often portrayed as.

Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.

(James 2:19)

Even Satan – especially Satan! – believes in Jesus as the Son of God.

You just denigrated every heterosexual adoptive parent as not being as legitimate a parent as you are. That’s certainly the type of thing someone who wants to encourage a “culture of life” should be saying. Well done!

libfreeordie on April 6, 2013 at 1:01 PM

That’s a red herring and you know it (or should, if you’re even remotely intelligent). The whole idea of adoptive parents is to provide an emulation of biological parenting. My wife and I almost adopted because we couldn’t have children, then surprisingly she got pregnant. We learned that for both the parents adopting and the parents giving up a child for adoption, a psychological hurdle has to be dealt with for every couple in our situation – the desire to have children by biological means only and the desire to retain biologically born children. Once that is accomplished, you treat the child as if they are your biological offspring – as perfectly emulating a biological relationship as possible. How, then, can two moms or dads emulate that natural/biological relationship? You say it’s possible, others have legitimate doubts – but to simply dismiss those doubts and use the concept of adoption as a trope argument to shut down the other side diminishes both the process that people must go through to adopt AND the importance of biological child rearing. Exactly the type of immature, sophomoric, argumentative reasoning and dialogue that Ms. Ball is demonstrating in this “cute” video.

It’s absolutely sad to see some really inane comments from those “real” conservatives…complaining how the big gay advocate groups throw out words like “bigot” and such, while they do the same thing with the “sodomite” and the cherry-picked scripture quotes.

Just so ironic…and an embarrassment to the entire conservative cause.

JetBoy on April 6, 2013 at 4:37 PM

I want to add…I have no connection to the big gay groups…IMO they do far more harm to the cause and are an embarrassment as well. But when I see mellow conservatives acting like adolescents and throwing out some pretty hateful stuff while they do the same thong. It’s ridiculous.

The whole bible summed in twelve:

Love is patient.
Love is kind.
It does not envy
It does not boast.
It is not proud.
It does not dishonor others.
It is not self-seeking.
It is not easily angered.
It keeps no record of wrongs.
Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.
It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
Love never fails.

My five-year-old has amazing insights into the strategic response to the North Korean threat. I’ll be posting them on Youtube as soon as I can tape the interview in one take.

flicker on April 6, 2013 at 9:05 PM

A five-year-old is actually a perfect stand-in for just about any ‘adult’ liberal. She has as much ability to figure out how the world works, use facts over instincts for ‘fairness’, and do math.

And maybe even more sense on the last: even a child who can’t count past twenty will know that if you give away 10 candy bars to 11 friends. Though unlike an adult liberal, if she steals her mother’s money to pay for the 11th candy bar she can get spanked!!!

Breitbart News sent the following questions on non-discrimination ordinances to these Republicans and have yet to receive a response from their offices.:

Should business within the wedding/marriage industry be protected from lawsuits resulting from a refusal to service same-sex couples at wedding halls, photography services, catering, etc..?

Should Catholic adoption agencies be forced to include same sex couples when a baby is up for adoption?

Should Christian marriage therapists lose their jobs or licenses b/c they refuse to see same sex couples ?

Should children in public schools be mandated to learn about homosexuality, when the parents do not think it is appropriate to be taught?

Where does the member stand on the Employment Non-discrimination Act (ENDA)?

This is what it really comes down to for me… Christians are going to be harassed and persecuted for their religious convictions. It is not going to be enough that homosexual marriage is the law of the land… no.. Christians will also have to embrace homosexuality. They will attempt to force Christians to deny their faith and bow and worship at the homosexual alter.

Not going to happen.

To those who ask the question,
Who would choose that orientation?,

I would ask,
Who would choose to be oriented towards pedophilia?

No one. But some are oriented that way.

If pedophiles were “born that way”, or if they became oriented that way through no fault of their own (i.e., they were molested), do we pronounce pedophilia to be legitimate & moral, as some say about homosexuality?

O/T: Hey Hot Air, where is the link to MSNBC’s statement that children don’t belong to their parents? Why aren’t you allowing us to comment on that BULLSHIT statement? Far and away above everything else on this site is the issue of the importance of the family unit, and MSNBC has just thrown a grenade into our households claiming that we don’t own our children. You should be posting this FRONT AND CENTER so that we can comment on it. Every single representative in the land, not just dems but pubs, too, should be asked at every opportunity whether they believe that children belong to their families or to the state and what should happen to elected representatives who believe that our kids belong to the state. Get it out there, Hot Air. Be part of the solution or part of the problem. Here’s your chance.

You are very accurate.

Some more direct quotes of Jesus

Matthew 10

14 And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, when ye depart out of that house or city, shake off the dust of your feet.

15 Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city.

Matthew 13\

37 He answered and said unto them, He that soweth the good seed is the Son of man;

38 The field is the world; the good seed are the children of the kingdom; but the tares are the children of the wicked one;

39 The enemy that sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the world; and the reapers are the angels.

40 As therefore the tares are gathered and burned in the fire; so shall it be in the end of this world.

41 The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity;

42 And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.

What is being done to children is of Sodom and Gomorrah. Those of the new Sodom do not see this as evil. Neither did the original generation of Sodom and Gomorrah. However, it is indisputable the Bible stands against leading children to this.

So the frantic attempt to make the new Sodom the new normal.

Decadence is a one way street. Those involved think they have discovered something new. It never changes

Back in the 80s, at the 300 employee company I worked at, a couple of the CSR gay gays were known to be “chicken hawks”, who went after young, impressionable college-age guys.Funny thing was, they were supposed to be “together”.

kingsjester on May 7, 2013 at 4:15 PM

The average homosexual couple has 7 extra-’marital’ sexual relationships per year. Yet they claim they are monogamous. This is because homosexuals (who say they don’t want to redefine marriage) actually regard monogamy as ‘being with’ a person, not necessarily being faithful to that person. So this is one of the redefinitions that will take place after legalisation of SSM. A recent study indicated 100% of all homosexuals were unfaithful after five years of cohabitation.
