Dems wonder: Is Obama just in it for himself?

posted at 9:21 am on April 2, 2013 by Ed Morrissey

Alternate title: Self-realization can take years in coming.  One might have thought Democrats understood this after the 2010 midterms, when Barack Obama could barely be bothered to lend his organizational might to protect the House majority he wound up losing in spectacular fashion.  Instead, Democrats now shut out of Obama’s Organizing for America once again feel like Charlie Brown after Lucy yanks away the football, according to McClatchy:

President Barack Obama’s decision to launch his own political organization has some Democrats wondering: Is he just in it for himself?

Obama’s new group, Organizing for Action, will focus on his policy agenda – not on electing Democratic candidates – by raising unlimited amounts of cash and accessing the president’s secret list of 20 million supporters, volunteers and donors.

The operation won’t share money, resources or the priceless Obama email list with the Democratic National Committee or campaign committees that help elect members of Congress, governors and legislators. And it has no plans to coordinate efforts, leading some Democrats to worry that it will take money and manpower away from the party as it heads into the 2014 elections for control of Congress.

It won’t even share the e-mail list? How difficult would that be? If it’s a matter of keeping the supposedly “independent” group separate from the national party, a sale of the list could be arranged.

Democrats worry now that OFA could sap their ability to fundraise for the upcoming midterms:

“There’s only so much money to go around in Democratic circles. There’s a limited pool of resources,” said Gilda Cobb Hunter, a South Carolina legislator and a member of the Democratic National Committee. “Why can’t we strengthen one entity?”

Well, Obama is strengthening one entity — himself.  The effort to fund what will be a permanent campaign during his second term is already unprecedented, as is its focus on one man:

Other presidents have created or championed organizations outside the major national parties. Bill Clinton, for example, embraced the Democratic Leadership Council, an organization that pushed a moderate agenda.

But that functioned more as a think tank. And Obama is the first to form a group that will raise millions of dollars as it seeks to perpetuate a year-round campaign for him.

Remember, too, that Obama can’t run for office again, at least not for President.  One might think under those circumstances that Obama would want to strengthen the DNC in order to fight for larger Democratic caucuses in the next session of Congress, which is really what Obama needs to push his agenda.  Instead, Obama apparently wants to do public-relations end-arounds to bypass not only House Republicans but perhaps also Senate Democrats.  That may be especially true on gun control, as Obama attempts to shame his own caucus into putting an assault-weapons ban on the floor that might cost them every red-state Senate seat Democrats will have to defend in 2014.

Democrats have to face reality.  Their party leader is just not that into them — certainly not as much as he’s into himself.

Obama no doubt anticipates being President Emeritus, not just any old ex-president. He probably has people designing his seal, just like he had a President-Elect seal.

He fancies himself a king-maker, who will decide what issues and people to support, and make his money so indispensible that the commoners in the DNC will come to him for his blessing. Without the One’s support, a Dem wouldn’t have a chance, at least in the One’s fantasy. Reporters will beg for an interview (questions submitted ahead of time, of course.)

He will still have plenty of time for golf, too. He’ll work when he feels like it. No-Change there.

When Obama has completed his 2nd term as President he intends to be the man behind the curtain pulling the strings. This will mark the last gasp of the party of JFK. All it needed was one more yank on the rope that is on it’s last thread and the march to the extreme Left will be complete.

Obama may not realize that money flows towards influence, and if he cannot show that he can influence legislation, the big money will go to Dems in Congress and to 2016 contenders. Once out of office, he might not have the influence he anticipates.

The Clintons always had one family member in public office. I doubt Moochelle is going to start glad-handing for a Senate seat. Even in the corrupt Illinois Combine, some retail politics has to be done.

There was a story in yesterday’s propaganda sheet known as the WaPo. It was all about Mooch being super smart and pretty but looking to expand her issues beyond military families and fat kids. My first thought when I read that was that they are trying to fill out her resume because patient dumping in Chicago only gives you so much credibility when running for your first elective office.

Still not convinced of that. She has a lot of embarrassing stuff in her past — took her a year to pass the Illinois bar, fired from her first (and only) lawyer job, had to depend on one of Barry’s political fixers (Valerie Jarrett) for every other job she’s ever had (all of which were 6-figure sinecures, created specially for her non-existent “talents”).

Michelle has excused her lousy past performances by saying she’s a “poor test taker.” But if she wants to hold public office, she’s going to need to do things like debate opponents and answer questions from the public, which requires at least some ability to think on one’s feet. I suspect, from what we know of her academic and work history, that that is not something Michelle does well.

Michelle enjoys the myth (super-smart, high-powered lawyer) that the Obama machine has sold about her. If she goes out on the campaign trail, she takes the very real risk of blowing up that myth (remember Caroline Kennedy as a Senate candidate wannabe?).

After 2014 it will be MO in your face 24/7. This is what BO is doing with OFA and the campaigning will switch from himself to MO. The problem I see is that I don’t know how anyone could defeat MO. She will be billed as having already been tested and she will of course have BO at her side. She is a liberal wet dream. She cares about all the “right” things, is beautiful, fashion setting, the worlds best mom, the worlds best wife and lover and the cherry on top is that she is black. Not to mention female. The liberals are like Pavlov’s dog and will not be able to resist voting for a black woman who is the wife of the greatest leader this planet has ever seen.

I said it back in 2008 and I’ll say it again. This country will never be rid of the Obama family and it will plague us for generations to come. Just wait until they manage to pack the courts and then get ride of term limits. BO will be president again and again. They are the energizer bunny of politics.

He’s not a democrat. He never was. The Democrat Party is just the easiest place for him to set up shop, the perfect cover. It wouldn’t be a big worry in either event; there won’t be a lot of change with a Republican Congress, because there will never be enough votes to override his vetoes.

If immigration passes it won’t matter, either. He’ll be able to decide who get’s nominated for President, and, in great part, he’ll be deciding who runs for Senate and House seats.

Remember that they had to muzzle her in 2008 because she was saying a lot of things not helpful to the campaign.

I answer “Where have you been for the last 4 years?”

Mooch not having the experience or executive chops for POTUS? What? Barky wasn’t in 2008 and isn’t today qualified to toss newspapers onto my front stoop, why would the drooling leftist fools care a whit about the First Grifter’s experience? If anything they would say that since she was “there” with Dog Eater during the heady days of his tenure that she has gained all the skills she needs.

Is this the same scrutiny her husband got? Because in that case I think she’ll be fine.

You also have to remember that the Obama brand is getting tired.

Dear Leader was noticeably less popular in 2012 than 2008 – he only won by mobilizing his base, and running enough advertising to convince working-class white to stay home and not vote.

Michelle is not a very likable individual, and has a sense of entitlement as big as all outdoors – put her on the campaign trail, and that will become very, very, obvious.

Oh! We haven’t seen just how much of a racist Mooch really is. I’m convinced it was her doing that they have such close ties with Jeremiah Wright and much of the Jew and White hatred in this administration comes from a certain annoying broad beamed ho.

When Barry wanted to go into politics on the South Side of Chicago, he was viewed as a half-white, Ivy League, carpetbagger. He had to marry a local girl and get involved in black nationalist politics to have a hope of getting elected.

Congressman Bobby Rush, the one guy to kick Barack Obama’s a** in an election:

“He went to Harvard and became an educated fool,” adding, “We’re not impressed with these folks with these eastern elite degrees.”

His brand is fine. He won by millions of votes against a man, alibeit unpopular around here, who was actually quite an accomplished individual with no dirt in his background. Romney was certainly a better and more tenacious candidate than McCain. I know he wasn’t perfect, but I really don’t think anyone could beat Obama. The electorate is just too stupid or too awful.

Obama is not a very likable individual. He’s not a warm person. His sense of entitlement is also put on the campaign trail and it was very obvious and he still won. As will she.

Who the heck could possibly beat her?

IRS regulations allow a 501(c)(4) nonprofit organization to engage in some political and legislative activities. It may lobby for legislation essential to its social welfare mission. Its political activities cannot be its primary function, however, and the organization cannot advocate for or against a specific candidate. Expenditures that a (c)(4) organization makes on its political activities may be subject to taxation.

I avoid comment on families and a person’s looks except for Crowley and some leftys in the pop culture or media or Ed*.

I can be nasty about our POTUS’s looks* but his family is adorable to me. Honest. I love them!

I like the First Lady and I think she looks better than ever.

She would have no use for me but most people are in that camp.

* There really was a Roman Emperor who looked like Ed Morissey.

* Easter Candy modeled on BHO. See Gene and boots candy at http://www.geneandboots.com/

* I had a source for a toy chimp that looked like W but it vanished. It was kinda attractive.

Odd really. I knew he was a narcissist from the get go. They are late to the party, their problem.

They always speak of the division within the republican party. We at least have the ability to call out our candidates, or current leaders with no problem at all. The way the democrat party sticks together is certainly not a quality I would adhere to.

Anybody else find it . . . odd . . . that the Democratic party, which is supposedly the party of empowered women, feminists, whatever you want to call them, continually pushes female candidates who owe their careers to riding on the coattails of their more-talented husbands?

Surely there are women candidates in the Democratic party who have made their own careers on their own merits, as opposed to women like Hillary Clinton and Michelle Obama, who, if not for the men they married, would likely be working in government jobs as mid-level bureaucrats (at best).

Are Democrats really that afraid of independent-minded women?

Ed, bring back OOTD! The site has really lost its edge without them. It’s as if hotair is saying Obama’s no longer an amateur, but there continue to be an abundance of amateurisms from in the second term.
