Obama: Shame on us for not enacting my gun-control agenda already

posted at 4:01 pm on March 28, 2013 by Allahpundit

Textbook O. First, almost obligatorily, the speech is built on the assumption that his opponents are callous to the point of malignancy. Read the transcript and you’ll see that he’s all but given up arguing policy on this; it’s a straight-up, 13-minute-long guilt trip, essentially the same point Jim Carrey made the other day but with less colorful language. If you disagree with him, it’s because you’ve “forgotten those kids.” Second, leave it to O to try to revive momentum for gun control with yet another speech after he spent weeks trying and failing to build durable momentum for it by, er, making speeches. All I could think of while watching was “If you like your plan, you can keep your plan,” which he repeated several thousand times during 2009 and which, as you know, helped make ObamaCare the fantastically popular program it is today. Gun control is arguably an even heavier lift for red-state Democrats than O-Care was, and while there are things he could do to make it a bit easier, he’d rather give speeches, I guess. When all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail.

Because he hates the children or something, Mike Lee mustered the temerity to respond:

Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, one of three senators setting a 60-vote threshold for the gun legislation, was unmoved by Obama’s speech. “It is deeply unfortunate that he continues to use the tragedy at Newtown as a backdrop for pushing legislation that would have done nothing to prevent that horrible crime,” Lee said in a statement. “This debate is about more than magazine clips and pistol grips. It is about the purpose of the Second Amendment and why our constitutionally protected right to self-defense is an essential part of self-government.”

Joel Gehrke, who posted Lee’s statement at the Examiner, notes that Obama spent more time on background checks in today’s speech than he did on “assault weapons.” (In fact, the term “assault weapons” is never used. O opted instead for the phrase “weapons of war,” which ought to bump the poll numbers for an AWB ban up another 5-10 points.) That’s interesting because he and Biden have insisted lately that they aren’t giving up on the assault-weapons ban, even if Harry Reid has. If ever there was a moment to try to rally red-state Democrats to grit their teeth and support Feinstein’s bill, if only so that the Dems could get to 50 in the Senate and then blame the GOP for filibustering, this was it. Did O give them a pass because he thinks it’s more important not to force those Democrats to take a very tough vote on the AWB might hand the Senate back to the GOP next year? Is that also why rich liberals are now making background checks, not the AWB, the litmus test for Democratic incumbents? Sounds to me like some people have forgotten about the children.

You’re competing with all law enforcement and feral government “domestic security forces” in that caliber. I’m thinking of getting rid of my 40. It’s 45 from now on for me. I don’t want anything that intersects too much with any government procurement. It sucks because I like my 9mm. I had to pay $27 a box at the range last time (I have to buy ammo there) because the only 9mm they could get was that silly frangible stuff (as if I care how it hits the backstop). They kept apologizing for it but I told them that we’re all getting shafted by this.

I’m switching to reloading now, anyway – and I’ll have to pay the extra fee at the range to BYO. There seems to be no other choice.

ThePrimordialOrderedPair on March 28, 2013 at 5:27 PM

Aww, bless his lil heart…Mr. President isn’t doing very well at getting anything done this term so far, now, is he? Could it be that he’s just not very good at this leadership thing?

M240H on March 28, 2013 at 5:19 PM

I suppose it depends on what your preferred brand is.
Just got a .40 cal Glock the other day, so I went and got some ammo at the local Sportsmans Warehouse. They actually had a bunch in stock – $17 / box (50 rounds) for Fiocchi FMJ, $19 / box for Independence FMJ. Not sure how that compares as I just now had the need for .40 cal. But another store wanted $56 for a 50 round box of Gold Dot HP – didn’t buy that.

M240H on March 28, 2013 at 5:19 PM

Man, I can find .40 with relative ease, at regular prices. The 9mm and 223 are starting to appear on the shelves a bit more regularly – first the really cheap crap, now some slightly better brands, etc.

What’s kinda funny is that it seems the last few months of anti-gun hysteria have resulted in precisely what they don’t want – *more* guns in the hands of citizens, and *more* ammo stockpiled in citizens closets. I’ll bet the private ammo stockpile has almost doubled in the last 120 days; people aren’t buying it all up then running out to the range and shooting it.

90% sort of sounds like the 90% of guns in Mexico come from the US….

Do they really expect us to believe that load of barrack?

Polls have shown 47 – 53% thereabouts of household being gun owners, are we to believe that 47 – 53% of the country want more restrictions on their freedoms?

Perhaps there may be a few gun owners who may want to go along to get along, but come on.

That 90% would have to include a substantial number of gun owners who don’t want any more of people control.

The AWB is a stalking horse issue,..it won’t take them where they really want to go which is total registration made possible with background checks on private sales. That’s their real prize. Then, they can plunder your savings accounts with no fear.:) Of course they’ll take the AWB if it falls in their lap, but registration leading to confiscation is where the tasty stuff really lies.

Shame on the Obama administration for the way they trample and revile the Constitution.

The oath of office of the President of the United States is an oath or affirmation required by the United States Constitution before the President begins the execution of the office. The wording is specified in Article Two, Section One, Clause Eight:

Before he enter on the Execution of his Office, he shall take the following Oath or Affirmation:— “I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.”

Obama has done nothing to affirm his oath of office……on the contrary, he has done everything to tear down, distort and ignore the Constitution….

His line about forgetting Newtown was uttered at that political theater event, in which grieving moms flanked President User.

http://twitchy.com/2013/03/28/video-president-pinocchio-repeats-lefts-favorite-bogus-gun-control-stat/
The shaming included the discredited statistic that a “loophole” allows “as many as 40 percent of all gun purchases to take place without a background check.”

This isn’t the first time Obama has relied on that bogus figure. In January, he said that “as many as 40 percent of all gun purchases are conducted without a background check.” Even the Washington Post gave that one a couple of Pinocchios.

But, you know, he did say “as many as,” so technically that would cover the more accurate figure of about 11 percent.

The Republicans had better sit down and get their messaging right on this one because Pravda and Izvestia are going to throw the kitchen sink at them on this.

I heard and interview with Rand Paul tonight and his short message is just perfect, he said he’s willing to pass any legislation that he feels would have done something to prevent the gun tragedies. He said that nothing being proposed, in the Senate, would have prevented Newtown and he’s not willing to restrict peoples 2nd Amendment rights if the bill doesn’t deal with the problem.

Let the games begin because it’s going to be an all-out war with every liberal organization on the planet attacking the poor little Republican Party.

The real problem:

“It is not, however, just handguns that must be discussed when discussing gun violence. This gets to why we cannot have a meaningful conversation in this country and never will. To do so will get you branded a racist.”

“Blacks were disproportionately represented as both homicide victims and offenders. The victimization rate for blacks (27.8 per 100,000) was 6 times higher than the rate for whites (4.5 per 100,000). The offending rate for blacks (34.4 per 100,000) was almost 8 times higher than the rate for whites (4.5 per 100,000).”
“Males represented 77% of homicide victims and nearly 90% of offenders. The victimization rate for males (11.6 per 100,000) was 3 times higher than the rate for females (3.4 per 100,000). The offending rate for males (15.1 per 100,000) was almost 9 times higher than the rate for females (1.7 per 100,000).”

“Approximately a third (34%) of murder victims and almost half (49%) of the offenders were under age 25. For both victims and offenders, the rate per 100,000 peaked in the 18 to 24 year-old age group at 17.1 victims per 100,000 and 29.3 offenders per 100,000.”
This information is from a 2011 United States Department of Justice report released by Obama.

Also, there were over 15,000 cases of felons and others not eligible to purchase firearms but the DOJ only prosecuted 44.

Let’s not forget, universal background checks require universal registration. Government registration always requires a fee. They can set the fee at $100/year/gun. Guns, not technically illegal, just too expensive to keep. Is it really worth it to keep paying for grandpa’s old shotgun? Let’s just surrender it to police.

Part of the fee will go to a victim’s compensation fund…for the chiiiildruuuuuuunnnn. The other part will go to further militarize the local police to protect against the violent, unpredictable assault weapons.

o The Obama administration gave thousands of guns and grenades to Mexican Drug Cartel members. resul;ting in the deaths of over 300 citizens (and counting), to include a US Border Patrol Agent…..

o Obama GAVE $2 Billion worth of military weapons – 24 F-16s & 200 tanks – to the Muslim Brotherhood, the same terrorist group that allowed and participated in the attack on our Embassy in Cairo on 9/11/12…

o The Obama administration assisted Al Qaeda-backed rebels take over Libya, refused to protect the thousands of shoulder-launched surface to air rockets…which fell into terrorists hands…and those rockets were used to murder Ambassador Stevens and have been found now in Gaza & Egypt.

I am all for gun control – controlling the Obama administration’s/governmemnt’s ‘use’/handling of weapons, to include gathering billions of rounds of ammo….

This isn’t about giving dems a pass on a vote about AWB, it’s not about the kids, cuz he’s already forgotten about meeting those coffins at Dover so forgetting about stuff like this is easy for him. This is all about the next election and demonizing repubs. I can’t even imagine how libs live each day without feeling some self recrimination, or even a pang of guilt over using the misfortune of others to push a political agenda. How cold hearted they are.

Shame on us for re-electing this POS.

Textbook O. First, almost obligatorily, the speech is built on the assumption that his opponents are callous to the point of malignancy.

An assumption which is clearly true.

If the slaughter of 26 school children and staff cannot move the Republicans to make even the slightest changes in our gun laws, then they are clearly indifferent about what happened in Newtown et al, in relation to their zeal to kowtow to the NRA.

Re-election means more to them (and some Democrats) than taking any meaningful action to head off the inevitable next mass shooting.

Read the transcript and you’ll see that he’s all but given up arguing policy on this; it’s a straight-up, 13-minute-long guilt trip,

What else is he supposed to say in the face of heedless intransigence? Gun fetishists won’t even agree to banning high-capacity magazines, let alone banning military-style assault weapons. Even something as generally agreed on as universal background checks and punishing straw gun purchases will be targeted for filibuster.

It’s the gun people who have given up arguing policy…they won’t even engage the issue except to chant “they want to take away our guns!” If the President is reduced to guilt-tripping, it’s because the fear mongering of the gun lobby has been so effective at cowing the Republicans.

In the meantime, the next Adam Lanza, with a personal arsenal of high-powered rifles and thousands of rounds of ammunition, waits for his chance to commit the next atrocity.

Any day now I fully expect him to say something along the lines of “you know, when Christ was on that cross, he had a small sense about what I have to deal with every day.”

“You know, if I had a son, he’d look like Trayvon been like Jesus.”

6 months later:
“Shame on us for not having loaded up the cattle cars already.”

We all have to remember what’s really going on here. Who gets hurt the most if the truth about the BATF operation that contributed to the deaths of hundreds of Mexican citizens gets exposed?

AG Eric Holder, an African-American.

Who gets hurt the most if Ogabe gets his way on guns?

The largely white “bitter clingers” that Obambi and his Svengali of stupid, Reverend Jeremiah “Kill Whitey” Wright hate so damn much.

This is pure racism from the president. It’s all about the color of peoples skin with him. He’s willing to wage war on millions of law abiding Americans because they don’t look like him. While at the same time he’s willing to cover for an official in his administration aiding and abetting large scale acts of terrorism against a neighboring friendly country because, as the president himself would say “If i had an Attorney General, he’d look like Trayvon Martin“.

Barack Hussein Obama is the most racist and racially divisive American political leader since Jefferson Davis (and twice as treasonous).
