Video: Gun-grabbing billionaire hints at defeating Senators who vote no on assault-weapons ban

posted at 9:11 pm on March 21, 2013 by Allahpundit

The key bit comes runs from around 7:00 to 7:50. We can’t possibly be so lucky as to have Bloomy drop a few million to defeat red-state Dems like Pryor and Landrieu in the primaries, can we?

Can we?

The Senate’s upcoming vote on the assault weapons ban is going to put vulnerable Democrats in a difficult spot.

Democrats facing tough reelection races will either attract the ire of the National Rifle Association or prominent gun control activists such as New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg (I). A vote against the ban could spark primary challenges that could weaken Democrats in the general election…

“People are not going to say, ‘That’s a tough vote for them, let’s not do anything,’ ” said Josh Horwitz, executive director of the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence. “There is a feeling that to win this thing we need all the Democrats. That means people who are in tough races in 2014 don’t get passes. I would expect issue ads and advocacy for all senators.”

Even Democrats who reliably vote with their leadership, such as Sens. Mark Warner (Va.), Tim Kaine (Va.) and Debbie Stabenow (Mich.), on Wednesday said they were not certain they would support the assault weapons ban. Warner faces reelection in 2014. Kaine, who formerly headed the Democratic National Committee, was on Obama’s short list to be his running mate in 2008.

It makes me happy to think of this unlikable micro-managing plutocrat becoming the face of gun-control discipline in Congress. For all the crowing the left does about Wayne LaPierre’s “messaging problems” (not without reason sometimes), having the country’s most famously meddlesome nanny-stater throwing millions in pocket change to buy Senate seats because he’s unhappy that there’s still a bit too much liberty in the Second Amendment for his liking is a case of “optics” I can live with. I wonder if he’ll proceed strategically, by leaving the most vulnerable Dems alone and focusing on beating Republicans in purplish states like Michigan and West Virginia, or if he’ll attack people like Pryor too just to show that he means business. His buddy Joe won’t like that but maybe Bloomberg doesn’t care at this point. He’s going to need something to do once his final term as mayor ends. Denying you the right to buy the semiautomatic of your choice for wholly arbitrary reasons seems like a fun hobby. He’s our very own Guy Grand.

I wonder why he doesn’t expand his agenda and start primarying people who oppose soda bans too. Soda kills a million billion trillion people worldwide each year; arguably that makes it an even more pressing social problem than gun violence. Not until the 16-ounce limit comes to convenience stories in even the most obese states will America be truly free.

Every day as I holster or tuck in on my way to work 15+1, plus 15, with a permit I don’t even need, it amazes me the level to which other Americans have let basic liberties erode by letting jackwads like bloomie run roughshod all over them.

Seriously,, go all OWS at his house. Stand up. Fight.

Of course I say this after fleeing MD having fought there since 93 and losing.

I can’t speak for other Hot Gas people but stuff like this here is why Im a disciple:

It makes me happy to think of this unlikable micro-managing plutocrat becoming the face of gun-control discipline in Congress. For all the crowing the left does about Wayne LaPierre’s “messaging problems” (not without reason sometimes), having the country’s most famously meddlesome nanny-stater throwing millions in pocket change to buy Senate seats because he’s unhappy that there’s still a bit too much liberty in the Second Amendment for his liking is a case of “optics” I can live with.

In my neighborhood you get huge props for being understandably incisive about a current issue then busting out a Guy Grand reference that is almost spot-on.

I say almost because Peter Sellers’ Guy Grand had a wit, style and bottom-line wisdom that teh Nanny conspicuously lacks and will never possess.

In fact, I think Guy would have sent Bloomberg an engraved ticket aboard the Christian’s maiden voyage, in a cabin right between Ari Onassis and JohnYoko.

Oh wait…

Skywise on March 22, 2013 at 8:39 AM

He’s not a very good politician, which is why I can’t figure out how he got to be so rich. From what I’ve seen his money did have a big effect on the last election in CO, and look what happened there. There is a problem with ‘dark money’ going into state elections. We had that here in Montana which is partly why Tester got reelected. The other reason being, Rehberg just ran a terrible campaign. Sound familiar.

Kissmygrits on March 22, 2013 at 9:06 AM

Wow, self appointed party ideologues threaten to primary vulnerable incumbents for not being sufficiently pure on the issues, leading to defeat in the general election, and permanent minority status. Where have I seen that before?

Mr. Arkadin on March 22, 2013 at 9:12 AM

I’ll save my celebrating for the 2014 elections, but it does look like the Dims are on the path of self-destruction with their anti-gun schtick. Anyone that doesn’t get that they really do want to take our guns probably shouldn’t be allowed to vote, drive cars or handle sharp objects.

What’s really bad is that I first thought this was a reference to Shotgun Joe. But of course, he’s just a millionaire.

There Goes The Neighborhood on March 22, 2013 at 10:00 AM

My question to Bloomberg…

You’ve demonized the NRA as a rich organization that advocates for guns, yet they get their money from supporters voluntarily sending them money to advocate for their beliefs. Where did you get your money?

“In the new organization of mankind, the children of Israel will spread over the whole surface
of the earth and will become everywhere, without opposition, the leading element, especially if
they can impose upon working classes the firm control of some of them. The governments of
the nations forming the Universal Republic will pass without effort into the hands of the Jews
under the cover of the victory of the proletariat, private property will then be suppressed by
the rulers of Jewish race, who will everywhere control public funds. Thus will be realized the
Talmudic promise that, when come the times of the Messiah, Jews will possess the wealth of
all peoples of the world.”

-Karl Marx with another Jew, Baruch Levy, quoted in “La
Revue de Paris,” June 1, 1928, page 574.

Hard to do if the population you are trying to rule has guns.

As the Talmud says: Extermination of Christians is a necessary sacrifice.
