Is Obama planning a moment of “national healing” for Kermit Gosnell’s victims?

posted at 1:42 pm on March 21, 2013 by Allahpundit

There’s not much to add to John Sexton’s piece. I just want to give it a more prominent place than sticking it in Headlines.

President Obama has made a habit of offering words of comfort when tragedy occurs, especially tragedy that involves children. He traveled to Tucson and spoke movingly of the 9 year old girl who was killed by Jared Loughner. He had great compassion for the young victims of Adam Lanza and promised to work to change the laws that, he claimed, allowed those killings to take place.

So where is Obama on the 7 infants killed in Philly (really it’s many, many times that number)? Why are there no teachable moments this time? Why no national dialogue about the grim reality of late term abortion? No discussion of the razor thin line between constitutional rights and murder from the First Lawyer. No vow to prevent this happening again by banning scissors or, more to the point, working to eradicate illegal late-term abortions (which like gun crimes are already illegal but still happen). Don’t Gosnell’s victims deserve a vote?

The President will not offer nationally televised words of healing at any of the funerals (complete with souvenir t-shirt). He will not stare into the rafters, pause dramatically and stage whisper something about Kermit Gosnell failing to live up to our best ideals. In short, he will not capitalize on the deaths of these innocent children. And no one in the media seems to have noticed his unusual disinterest in doing so…

The President himself voted to defended partial-birth abortion, which is one technicality away from the crimes Gosnell committed. Given all this, shouldn’t the President at least be asked to comment? Even if he wants to remain silent, for obvious reasons, how can the media allow him to do so?

Excellent points all, but we’re forgetting that liberal failures can only be cured with liberal solutions. Once ObamaCare spirals out of control, the left’s proposed solution won’t be repeal, it’ll be “Medicare for all” or some other variation on single-payer. If the assault-weapons ban passed and inevitably didn’t do much to reduce gun violence or mass shootings, the proposed solution wouldn’t be repeal, it would be a ban on a wider class of semiautomatics. Put O on the spot by asking him about Gosnell, and what’ll he say? That it’s time to rethink policies that have so devalued life in the womb that Gosnell could cut a baby’s spine while joking about how big it was? Of course not. His answer will be that we need to make sure abortion is widely available (and culturally acceptable, although that’ll be only implied) so that women never have to visit a butcher like Gosnell. If anything we need more clinics by reputable doctors so that babies can be killed earlier in development, through “humane” means. As Mark Steyn noted yesterday, the few news outlets that are covering this are sufficiently confused about the morality or immorality of what Gosnell did that they’ve taken to describing the live-born babies he’s accused of murdering as “viable fetuses” and noting, drily, that “Abortions are typically performed in utero.” What’s the term for an “atypical” abortion performed outside the womb? Is there a one- or two-day “grace period” after birth where slitting the baby’s throat in its crib still technically counts as “abortion,” not murder? Part of me wants to hear how Obama would field that one, and another part of me really doesn’t.

But needless to say, no, there won’t be any “national healing” for Gosnell’s victims. Anything that’s potentially unhelpful to the pro-choice cause is something he’ll be staying far, far away from, no matter how unexceptional in theory a denunciation of murdering live-born crying infants should be from the country’s chief law enforcement officer. Exit question: Assuming the charges prove true, will Gosnell get the death penalty or not? If it were “just” one or two babies he killed, I’d bet heavily on life in prison. But maybe the sheer scale here — Sexton notes that the number of potential victims could run into the dozens or hundreds — will require a recognition of the value of infant life that’s a bit more robust than usual.

If the death penalty can’t be given to Gosnell, then we may as well do away with it altogether. I can’t think of a more deserving individual.

National healing? How about national prosecution? national shaming at least. Obama also supported having babies that survived the abortion procedure to be allowed to die. The media can’t cover this story because they didn’t cover that one. I hate our media…can you tell?

Dear leader is all for it,that’s why it was so believable that he resembled Satan in the Bible. This is why I’m against abortion and, of course, this is what is irrelevant, in the souls of those who support it:

Job 31:15 – “Did not he that made me in the womb make him? And did not one fashion us in the womb?

Psalm 22:10 – “I was cast upon thee from the womb: thou art my God from my mother’s belly.”

Psalm 139:13 – “…: thou hast covered me in my mother’s womb.”

Isaiah 44:2 – “Thus saith the Lord that made thee, and formed thee from the womb, …”

Isaiah 49:1 – “…; The Lord hath called me from the womb; from the bowels of my mother hath he made mention of my name.”

Jeremiah 1:5 – “Before I formed thee in the belly, I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb, I sanctified thee, …”

Luke 1:15 – “…; and he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost, even from his mother’s womb. [41] And it came to pass, that, when Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; … [44] For, lo, as soon as the voice of thy salutation sounded in mine ears, the babe leaped in my womb for joy.”

Romans 9:20 – “Nay but, O man, who art thou that repliest against God? Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it, Why hast thou made me thus?”

Obama can’t be asked for comment by the media because both the media and Obama approve of what Gosnell did.

You’ll never get them to say it outloud, but the entirety of the left believes – as an article of faith – that any woman can abort any baby at any time and for any reason.

Doughboy on March 21, 2013 at 1:43 PM

Though I am personally opposed to the death penalty, I would have to make an exception in this case. Pennsylvania has no commitment to enforcing the death penalty which makes it an expensive proposition for taxpayers forced to pay for repeated appeals for criminals who end up being darlings for some left-wing loons. Nevertheless, I might like seeing the left try to take up a save Kermit campaign to force this issue into the national spotlight.

D-fusit on March 21, 2013 at 1:59 PM

If anything we need more clinics by reputable doctors so that babies can be killed earlier in development, through “humane” means.

NY undercuts the chance of Obama saying that, because the new law here allows abortions to be performed by other than a licensed medical doctor. So, Obama doesn’t have that ‘out’, either.

He’s going to do what he typically does: ignore this series of crimes. And I call them crimes against humanity, over and above that abortion itself is already.

It’s guaranteed the baby-killers will ignore Kermit the Ghoul’s crimes as well, hence the media largely killing the story or trying to change terms to keep control of the situation. If Kermit’s actions don’t cause a moral quandary among the baby-killers, nothing ever will.

No, because they are not victims, merely unwanted blobs of human tissue. Barry’d offer a moment of “national healing” no more for these, than he would a surgically removed gall bladder.

Obama is a callous, shallow politician that above all is ignorant of everything around him except his privilege. He is minded by greedy ideologues that are funneling money from the government while professing knowledge and concern. A gullible media and bureaucracy play along because the meme of the black president is very important to them as is the micro-agenda of each agency.

It really would be nice if somebody nailed the bastard to the wall and grilled him on the issue of life, death, and state-sanctioned murder vis-a-vis the other kind. But of course, this is the moral coward that saw nothing wrong with the victims of abortion that became viable to be wheeled into a closet and left to die from neglect so I don’t think he’d see too much wrong with Kermit Gosnell’s actions.

That would be true except for the facts. Pro-infanticide and pro-abortion zealots like Obama want every abortion mill to not be subject to any regulations or inspections because that might limit “access”. And guess what? There were no inspections of ANY abortion mills in Pennsylvania for 20 years, beginning with the administration of pro-abortion RINO Tom Ridge. Which is how Gosnell got away with his butchery for as long as he did; God knows how many more Gosnells exist in Pennsylvania. Obama’s answer would be a lie since a murderous policy Obama would support was in place and it allowed Gosnell to thrive.

Monstrosities like those committed by Gosnell are the result of Roe v. Wade. It legalized what pro-abortion fanatics have lied about regarding what it was supposed to prevent; back-alley abortions using a coat hanger. There is no reason for the GOP not to tie Gosnell to Roe.

In the meantime Biden brings together a bunch the Sandy Hook parents to campaign for the Assault Weapon Ban. Poor grieving people used as props. And all I could think when I heard him was just what a hypocrite he is. Biden gave an emotional overly-dramatic screed about protecting life and yet he sees no problem with killing off babies. He would go to the mats defending the right of women to kill their child though but somehow the life of one of those Sandy Hook victims is of more value? But he’s a “good Catholic.”

Those Sandy Hook victims were only five, how attached could their parents have been to them anyway?/

Happy Nomad on March 21, 2013 at 2:49 PM

Same as this guy.

Who, because of New York’s vast wisdom, has “desetablished” death row.

The guy raped the daughter in front of the mother, then killed the mother in front of the daughter.

And he’s going to live.

budfox on March 21, 2013 at 2:59 PM

I hope, if it is all horribly true, that he gets the death penalty, and then his lawyers appeal. Organizations like NOW, and of course the leftist media, will be in an incredible bind.

Should they protest his sentence too much, they’ll of necessity be giving publicity to his monstrous acts. Should they keep mum, in an effort to minimize said publicity, they run the risk of not giving enough support to the appeal process, and having it fail. The resulting potential case law generated could have a profound effect on the legal arguments surrounding unrestricted abortion rights.

I’ve said it before–I’m reluctantly pro-choice. But it is situations like this that really emphasize the “reluctant” part of that statement. I’d be a liar if I said this isn’t a soul-searching moment. As libertarian as I am, I do recognize the positions of pro-life people. I still disagree, but I don’t for a moment question the authenticity of your anguish.

itsnotaboutme on March 21, 2013 at 2:25 PM

Matthew Shepard was not murdered for being a homosexual. That, however, became the popular story which fueled his posthumous celebrity.

Peter Singer advocates “abortion” until 18months. Prior to self awarness, a person’s just not a person dontchaknow.

Vera on March 21, 2013 at 2:33 PM

Since Obama advocated infanticide as a State Senator, and is the only U.S. politician to have done so, I wonder if he would set the limit as low as 18 months?

Hmmm… considering the death panels in Obamacare, I guess there’s no limit.

I know that marshmallows that are republicans in DC will never fight back but few things could be simpler and more explicit that the picture of the baby in the trash bin. It’s an instant punch to the solar plexus and something that haunts all but the soulless in our midst. Same visual impact as a bunch of starving inmates in a concentration camm.

Unless you are some satan worshiping creature like pelosi or reid you’ll stop and think if this is really where we want to head as a country.

But in the end I know, deep down, they’ll do nothing and hope they retain their seat in DC. They are almost as sleezy and vile and the dems that rule over us. They sold their soul for their power rather than address what a wrong thing late term abortions are. It’s a good thing they did not rule us when we were liberating Europe.

May they all rot in hell with their savior obama.

This is the kind of topic that tends to be troll-free. They’re all over the place for gay marriage or amnesty for illegals but if you want to clear the room, bring up Benghazi or defending something like this.

Happy Nomad on March 21, 2013 at 2:41 PM

Maybe the”trolls” think they can be persuasive on other topics, but here isn’t a good place to defend the practice of abortion. Even people who agree with Peter Singer believe it is best to kill earlier than later.

thuja on March 21, 2013 at 3:06 PM

Born Alive Infant Protection Act. Even NARAL supported it. Obama didn’t. He voted against it. Twice. He lied about his vote, claiming the bills endangered women’s right to abort under Roe v. Wade. Wrong. They were neutral as to Roe v. Wade. He opposed protecting infants who survived an abortion. As Newt Gingrich said, he supported legalizing infanticide.

The MSM has successfully embargoed the Gosnell story. So no one will care about this.

As opposed to the uber-flattering pictures which accompany stories about Republicans at HuffPo, Kos, NBC, ABC, CBS, MSNBC, CNN et al.?

It is interesting though, that you’ve got absoutely nothing to say about the fact that an abortionist severed the spines of seven children.

I just wish that this kind of filth could be embarrased, or humiliated.

But, it can’t … no more than a tick can be told to stop sucking the blood of its host.

I find it distasteful that such an unqualified candidate avoided due diligence and was elected, and then again. Despite the worst performance as president in U.S. history.

And that there are cultists who complain that the photos of their messiah don’t flatter him to the degree that his fanboys fancy. That’s pretty distasteful also.

In this case they could have elected to use a photo from the trial. Those photos are extremely graphic and in good taste would require a disclaimer prior to clicking on the link, not exactly something for the home page to pop up when you visit the site with no such warning.

Choose any one of the photographs from this article, http://cnsnews.com/news/article/abortionist-joked-baby-big-enough-walk-around-me-or-walk-me-bus-stop, and assume it would have been the preferred headline photo for this thread.

changer1701 on March 21, 2013 at 3:30 PM

You mean: Obama also supported having babies that survived the abortion procedure to be allowed to die without any human comfort.

esr1951 on March 21, 2013 at 1:57 PM

I mean he wanted them dead because someone wanted them dead. The doctor, the mother, aunt, boyfriend or anybody else but the one doing the dying. To him babies are burdens and punishment.

Yes. You DID need to see that. THAT is what abortion looks like. Every single one of you pro-abortion types NEEDS to see the fruit of your policies.

If, after seeing those pictures, you can still tell me it’s just a clump of cells, fine. But you need to UNDERSTAND what it is we’re actually discussing.

The content of the post relates to how these infants were treated. If you find the photos objectionable, then perhaps you should comment on the content of what was posted instead of simply complaining about the headline picture of Obama. Join the discussion.

Really our country is drowing in debt. Eight babies are dead because of the monster listed on this thread and Obama wants to heal the girls his policies helped hurt.. Yet you worried about what Obama looks like in a picture..
