Sarah Palin at CPAC: “Mr. President, you won. Accept it.”

posted at 2:31 pm on March 16, 2013 by Erika Johnsen

Amidst the inevitable “Why is Sarah Palin invited to CPAC?”-type media buzz, Sen. Ted Cruz — in advance of his keynote speech later this evening — volunteered his own reasons for Palin’s presence on Saturday and made it clear that he has no plans to try and stealthily unhitch his wagon from the anti-establishment mentality that helped blaze his trail into office. Making a surprise celebrity shot just before Sarah Palin took the stage, Cruz reminded the crowd of Sarah Palin’s role in helping our current roster of young, conservative rock-stars get elected in the first place: “The mainstream media is absolutely convinced that women cannot be conservatives. … That’s why Gov. Palin drives the mainstream media bat-crap crazy. It shakes up their entire world view, and you know what, she can pick winners. Sarah Palin jumped in early and supported Rand Paul. She supported Marco Rubio. She supported Tim Scott. She supported Pat Toomey. She supported Nikki Haley. And this last election cycle, there were three Republicans who won new seats, Deb Fischer, Jeff Flake, and myself. She supported all three of us. Let me tell you something: I would not be in the U.S. Senate today if it were not for Gov. Sarah Palin. She is fearless, she is principled, she is courageous, and she is a mama grizzly.”

Cue Sarah Palin, who definitely did not shy away from slamming the shady, back-room, crusty old Washington power structure, but also took President Obama to the cleaners on his utter bankruptcy of leadership skills: “We don’t have leadership coming out of Washington. We have reality television. … Well, the election came and went. But, the campaign never stopped. At a time when our country is desperate for leadership, we get instead a permanent campaign. … Leaders reach across political differences, campaigners double down on those differences. … Leaders seek to bring Americans together to confront our challenges, and campaigners, they seek to divide and conquer and orchestrate crisis after crisis after crisis, to exploit. Mr. President, you won. We accept it. Now step away from the teleprompter and do your job.” Heh.

O/T yet relevant, on Facebook #SarahPalinDoes was trending for several hours in a way indicating a positive following, unlike House Speaker Boehner who is STILL getting blasted for drinking the kool-aid.

One of the more popular conservatives at Twitter berated users for using the word establishment too often, but it was only a matter of minutes before he too resorted to using that because of Establishment republican Boehner. The lesson from that is to think a bit before you type unless you enjoy being PWN3D.

Fact is, Sarah Palin comes off too much like a clownish sideshow. Not surprised that she came in dead last in the 2013 CPAC Straw Poll. Conservatives would do best not to put this woman out there as the representative or spokesperson for our cause. After all, she is scared of and runs away from challenging live tv interview situations. Seems she is an articulate and effective communicator only when she is reading speeches written by others.

bluegill on March 19, 2013 at 8:08 AM

And what is “our cause” to you anyway? And how was that loser Mitt Romney going to promote “our cause”? I’m not sure you can even spell out what “our cause” is, beyond getting Republicans elected. Fat lot of good that does us if the knuckleheads getting elected insist on rolling over for the Democrats, doing nothing about the upcoming bankruptcy of the country, and pushing amnesty for every criminal that Mexico is sending north.

It’s obvious you don’t even want Palin to be in public life. Screw you. I hope she’s giving people like you fits for the next fifty years. Go hump Romney’s leg.

You do NOT admire Palin. No one who admires anyone goes around posting over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again that that person is a cowardly quitter who comes off as a clown and needs to go away. Take that damn crown of thorns off your head, it looks ridiculous.

And no, I DON’T wonder why certain people call Palin supporters “cultists.” I KNOW why. It’s because they are trying to use ridicule to get us to stop being Palin supporters so we’ll all go back to supporting the phonies that the GOP would prefer we support and vote for. Screw the pests and hacks who use that word.

Gill- I chuckle reading the comments as you have quite the following, but I find it ironic because you share a very deep scorn of others – with Ms. Palin – but obviously from different quarters. And that’s my point to you.

Whether she is the right, or effective face of Conservativism, isn’t so much the issue as her conviction to fight those who persist on pushing the Socialism for America. Only she can call out the President for the Liar he is – on a national stage- and the Pravda media can’t even find the courage to debate her on it. They go after her “Big Gulp” shtick in the same way these dishonest liberal moron’s had to pretend they didn’t know Russia’s proximity to Alaska. They cannot take her on outside of their Alinskyite philosophy. She must be silenced by the Left because they know they cannot engage her, without putting a big spotlight on what they have been hiding. Benghazi, anyone? I would call it a “unseen” effectiveness- that she needs to keep pounding on.

I personally think Palin does not understand how powerful of a voice she could have, now, and maybe for personal reasons, doesn’t want it. She’s had some gaffes (who hasn’t Joe?), and maybe newtered herself a little too much of late – but Sept 3rd 2008- she changed the Conservative world. Imagine the 2010 Shellacking without her. (It woulda looked more like Nov. 2012) Does she want to be the “Face of Conservatism” – I don’t think she does. At least not as much as some of your fan club would like. But I don’t think that diminishes her. Her CPAC speech proves she “ain’t backing down or shuttin up”.
Just sayin.

I agree with what you are saying. You know, my real issue is just with those who will accept no candidate but her. That is what really motivates me to criticize her on the site. I love that she criticizes Obama, though I wish she would do so in a classier way at times and I really don’t like how she seems to feed off of division within the Republican Party. It almost seems like it is her shtick to promote conservative in-fighting. For these reasons I think she is unhelpful. I also don’t think she is persuading anyone outside those who already agree with her.

As for her speech, I think the Big Gulp part is great, but I wish she would tone down the goofiness. The immature taunting and sarcastic facial expressions diminish her. She is already seen as a cartoonish figure, and her own actions reinforce this perception.

No honey, anyone sitting at their Denny’s slurping the syrup and panning Palin, ISN’T fine with her…nor particularly right in the head.

I do hope you & Marcus could meet at the Denny’s, or for a real classy treat First Watch. The downside of First Watch is it closes at about 2.30 PM, local, so you can’t just sit at the counter drinking the endless coffee reminiscing about how you goofed on Palin for this that or the other thing….But mayhap you and Marcus could cruise over to the Waffle House, after….they’re open 24-7. Also something to be aware of if Denny’s asks you to leave after several hours. The Waffle House is open 24-7 AND they are used to folks huddled over their meals, cackling to themselves.

I get that – the Big Gulp was unexpected -that some want a more serious presenting politician. Formality is necessary. But I also think the old guard typlical Mitch McConnell style is going the way of the Dinosaur. Rs will have to compete to change minds and votes if they are to stay relevant. And why apply a different standard to Sarah, than say, other mainstream policitcal figures, is unfair to her.

Connecting on a different level- without sacrificing Principle or Policy- may just be the right move here for the Rs. Her past attack on DC cronyism and beltway corruption was spot on- and it connected with a lot of people. That’s her ability. And again- She is the only one who publicly state that DC is THE PROBLEM. Clint tried to remind everyone that as well. This is our country- not the politicians.

As for infighting, taking a shot at Rove’s profit taking, also unexpected – but true. But you are right to hold the 11th commandment as important. That’s the only commandment the Demcrites will ever adhere to – protect their own. That is a lesson Rs need to learn.

Generally, when one admires a person, they don’t go around complaining and badmouthing every little move they make and latch onto talking points established by that persons natural enemies.

Doing so gives lie to any supposed asserted “admiration”.

They also tend to sympathize with the person they admire and take a hard look into what motivates that person and their personal history.

Sharr on March 19, 2013 at 5:45 PM

One last observation before this thread disappears into the HotAir archives:

I didn’t even bother to look at the straw poll because I didn’t think it made any difference. Because it’s, you know, a straw poll. But I wish I’d looked at it sooner — because it’s interesting that there were actually TWENTY-THREE names on that straw poll and Sarah Palin came in at Number 10 out of 23 — or less than halfway down the list, and NOT DEAD LAST as a certain obsessive poster insisted again and again and again and again and again over the past four days. I guess this person assumed that the ballot had only the ten names given on that chart listed on this thread.

So this person, who claims to admire Palin, yet trashes her in post after post after post, saw what she wanted to see and ran with it. Unreal.

Of course, the Constitution can be interpreted in different ways. Could Palin’s claim — that the Senate violated the Constitution by not passing a budget resolution — be valid?

Not according to Laurence H. Tribe, the Carl M. Loeb university professor and professor of constitutional law at Harvard Law School. Tribe told us via email: “Her interpretation is completely invalid.”

Sarah Palin has made it cool to be a conservative.

The Lamestream Media had all but written off the former Alaska governor. They called her irrelevant.

But alas the Mama Grizzly came out of hibernation. She rose up and stole the show. I know. I was geeking out in the second row.

“I would not be in the U.S. Senate today if it were not for Governor Palin,” declared Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) as he introduced Palin to a packed house of cheering fans.

And personally – I would not be involved in politics as a college student had it not been for Gov. Palin.

Not only did she endorse a diverse and young batch ofcongressional candidates—who eventually won their seats, she also inspired thousands of young students to stop complaining about politics and do something about it.

Palin drew major accolades with a single act of defiance – she displayed a Big Gulp – and then gave a shout-out to young conservatives and College Republicans.

“I am so proud of you guys, all of you,” she said. “You are so bold. You guys keep your courage up, and my only piece of advice, because I’m a Mom, is ya gotta be thinking Sam Adams, not drinking Sam Adams.”

Palin used humor to communicate policy that connects well with average, disenfranchised Americans

Congress thinks CR’s are enough to satisfy that clause. Palin as well as others like myself disagree with that thought. If not unlawful that it is immoral to operate without a budget. Either way I’m glad Gov Palin drew attention to this direlection of duty from our small leaders.

In my neck of the woods we have a word that fits you to a tee, DUMBAZZ!

I look forward to your return to display your cluelessness again. /smug

DannoJyd on March 19, 2013 at 5:25 PM

great catch. Hotair reported only the top 10 names in their post. they left out the other 13 names and/or group it with the cat “other” which means she beat the following people:

NH Senator Kelly Ayotte
AZ Governor Jan Brewer
KS Governor Sam Brownback
Former IN Governor Mitch Daniels
SC Governor Nikki Haley
OH Governor John Kasich
NM Governor Susana Martinez
VA Governor Bob McDonnell
IN Governor Mike Pence
TX Governor Rick Perry
OH Senator Rob Portman
SC Senator Tim Scott
SD Senator John Thune

So Bluegill is exposed as a liar or a dumbas@ either way it works. but its a straw poll so the results don’t really matter either w3ay but with the additional information seems like Gov Palin is doing well enough in people’s minds since the majority of people think she isn’t runnning for anything atm. also many of the names she beat like Perry and Martinez and MCdonnell are talked about a lot as possible candidates in 2016. I guess it would suck to be a Perry supporter with dreams of 2016. But buck up Perry supporters its only 2013 and its a freaking straw poll so doesn’t really matter much

unseen on March 20, 2013 at 12:28 PM

Why, isn’t it fascinating your “STRAW POLL RESULTS” happen to all be in alphabetical order and (P)alin came before (R)ubio and (S)antorum!

And you’re calling someone else a “DUMBAZZ”?

Marcus on March 19, 2013 at 8:58 PM

hey dumbazz he is saying there where 23 people on the ballot Palin got in the top 10 Perry and others were in the bottom 13 of 23. the list he gave you isn’t the “results” its the ballot. The results were posted at the link Palin was tied with Jindal for the 9th/10th place while Cruz and Carson tied for 7th/8th place place. Learn to read.

To add some padding to the proof, just take a look at the Youtube viewership numbers of each official CPAC speech given this year.

Here are some examples so far:

CPAC 2013 – Former Governor Sarah Palin (R-AK) – 187,001 views

CPAC 2013 – U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) – 40,840 views

CPAC 2013 – Former Governor Mitt Romney (Intro by Gov. Nikki Haley) – 17,921 views

CPAC 2013 – U.S. Representative Paul Ryan (R-WI) – 7,760 views

CPAC 2013 – Ronald Reagan Dinner (feat. Jeb Bush) – 654 views

CPAC 2013 – U.S. Representative Michele Bachmann (R-MN) – 4,311 views

This btw for those thick heads that don’t know #whatPalindoes is she brings conservatism to a wider audience and gets the message across. This means more votes at the ballot box Mittbots. Something your guy couldn’t understand and lost because of it.

lol….not sure about Rand’s numbers….but if these numbers say anything if anyone’s old news its Ryan. only 7,000 people gave a crap what he had to say and only 5 mothns ago he was part of the national ticket. Seems many people want to forget the mistake that was Romney/Ryan.

Wasn’t Rove. It was Tucker Carlson. You know, the guy who called her a MILF and then published the Glen Rice crap Mike Tyson was slinging.

Spit. That’s what I think of you, TC.

Re: ROVE’s comment

“…if I did run for office and win, I would serve out my term, and I wouldn’t leave office midterm.”

Not according to Rove’s own words in his own book. I would assume rove wrote the book himself and/or signed off on it:

With Gillespie in place, I could leave with confidence that an experienced hand would be on board to handle anything that came up (pg 493-4).

The Plame investigation had exhausted more than my physical reserves. It had also burned through a significant portion of my family’s finances. I’d made sure that no one really knew just how big of a bite my legal tab had taken out of my savings, but I had juggled as long as I could without putting my family’s financial security at risk. More important than money, however, was the toll that my life had taken on my wife and son. I could see more clearly how the press attention, the protesters surrounding our house, the ugly anonymous letters and snarky Internet postings had weighed on them, evening if I’d been able to block most of it out (pg 494).

I felt angry that financial circumstances were forcing me to leave, but I felt grateful the president supported my complicated decision (pg 495).

Karl Rove like Bluegill and other Palinhaters out right liars.

Do you agree that Washington shirked their constitutional duty by not passing a budget in almost four years? Remember these are the “leaders” we’ve sent there to represent us and be good stewards of our hard earned tax dollars. Article One, Section Nine, Clause Seven of the United States Constitution states: “No Money shall be drawn from the Treasury, but in Consequence of Appropriations made by Law; and a regular Statement and Account of the Receipts and Expenditures of all public Money shall be published from time to time.”

“The liberties of a people never were, or ever will be, secure when the transactions of their rulers may be concealed from them.” — Patrick Henry
