Sequester, schmequester: Party at the White House!

posted at 4:26 pm on March 11, 2013 by Erika Johnsen

Last week, I wondered if perhaps the Obama administration would consider factor the optics of the decision to cancel White House tours for the public into their upcoming decisions about the executives’ leisure activities, and whether they’d tone them down a little due to the extra security and funds that they require.

Evidently not.

Not only do they have every intention of going forward with forward with their Martha’s Vineyard vacation this summer nor any plans for curbing Obama’s golf outings, the First Lady is getting ready to throw herself the most amazing 50th birthday bash, evah. I wonder how much extra all of these “everyman” leisure activities are going to incur in security costs? HuffPo reports:

An unnamed (and potentially questionable) source told the UK’s Daily Mail that the first lady has asked Beyonce and Adele to perform at her party.

“America’s first lady will be holding a huge celebrity-packed party for her birthday at the White House next year and, as she adores Adele and Beyonce, she has asked them both to sing,” an unnamed source told The Daily Mail. “Adele has graciously accepted and waived her usual fee for the high-profile private performance. She will sing a selection of her most-loved hits for the first lady and her friends.”

You might be tempted to think that, with all they pain they’ve said these cuts are going to incur, and what with the ongoing economic “recovery” and the outsized number of Americans who still can’t find jobs, they’d make some effort to trim down displays of opulence as, at the very least, a smart PR move — but you would be wrong. And why should they, really? Nobody cares. They do what they want. And isn’t Michelle Obama just the coolest? She’s BFFs with Beyonce and Adele, for goodness’ sake!

Once more, with feeling: This is less about meaningfully saving money, more about the “Washington Monument strategy.”

For our Imperial Family? Not hardly. No violations. No limits.

All performers honored to be invited to act for the entertainment of our Imperial Family are expected to waive all fees and expenses usally expected of the hosts. It would be insulting for Barry and Moochelle to actually have to pay for their entertainment. Merely being in their exalted presence should be more than payment enough.

Ward Cleaver on March 11, 2013 at 4:47 PM

$1.4 Billion tax dollars spent last year to keep the Obamas living large.

$1.4 Billion. A year.

The Obamas’ dog walker is now a federal employee with a $102,000 per year salary paid by taxpayers. A dog walker. For a family pet. How is a personal pet’s care a legitimate expense of the office of the presidency? It is clearly a personal expense that should be paid for from personal funds.

There is no meaningful oversight on the Obamas’ out-of-control spending; that’s why they get away with putting an overpaid dog walker (for their kids’ dog) and an under-talented make-up artist (for Michelle) on the public payroll.

Michelle’s lavish birthday bash will undoubtedly cost taxpayers millions, but the media won’t report that. They’ll just fawn over the celebrities at the pricey party, and tell how how fabulous Michelle looked in whatever sleeveless, overpriced, designer get-up she wears.

AZCoyote on March 11, 2013 at 4:49 PM

You know what, I have NO problem with the Obama’s having a good time. I have a problem with them spending my money to do so. With the exception of an actual security detail, and a detail to keep him connected with the national security apparatus, why should we, the people, pay for a darn bit of his vacationing or partying? He gets paid for what he supposedly does every day – let him spend his own darn money – just like all the rest of us citizens!

(State dinners should not be lavish, royal affairs, either. An adequate meal, with an appropriate atmosphere for casual negotiations. Unless, we’re going to fastforward to ten years from now -which would be great because we’d be in the middle of President Rubio or President Ryan’s second term- the sequester will still be with next January.

And the reason why people are angry about the extravaganza is because the Obama administration is doing petty things like cancelling White House tours and the Easter Egg roll and then they are planning this huge shindig with the extra security and staffing costs it will likely entail. Not to mention the fact that leftists were whining about Mitt Romney’s car elevator. I really don’t care what Mitt Romney used his own money for; I do care about the Obamas not being careful with our money.

This President — every President — gets to fly free and have a security detail whether he’s off to Beijing for a summit or off to New York for a night out with his wife or to the ranch to clear brush. We pay for it. That’s part of the deal.

Presidents, including Obama, do pay things like rent on vacation property when they can’t find some rich person to lend them a house ( the Obama strategy, as I recall). Non-official social functions and family dinners are paid for out of pocket so, in all likelihood, most of Michelle’s bash will be paid for by Barry.

Uh-huh. Just like Guantanamo will be closed down within Obama’s first year.

This President — every President — gets to fly free and have a security detail whether he’s off to Beijing for a summit or off to New York for a night out with his wife or to the ranch to clear brush. We pay for it. That’s part of the deal.

How about cutting down on golf outings so that elementary children can visit the White House? Or do they have to give Obama and his thugs $500,000 to visit the Obama and Mooch?

sentinelrules on March 11, 2013 at 5:17 PM

We pay Bush’s pension and Secret Service, and he makes Carter and Nixon look good by comparison. Comes with the job. And, by the way, the Obama “dog walker” is the White House horticulturalist, who started helping out with the dogs for Richard Nixon.

We’ve all heard the saying “Nothing is certain but Death and Taxes”

Well, may I add to that old adage?

The above post is a perfect illustration of another thing
that is CERTAIN in Life. Leftists who do backflips while
making Moral equivalency points.

See, SEE! Booooooooosssshhhh has a PENSION!!

In case you ever escape that Sanitaruim you post from, Obama
(as in the two of them) make the Royal Family of England
look like paupers with their spending, and one of them just recently complained that basic services in this Nation were going to be severely cut. And we’re all going to feel it, except
them of course. Next time you want to
pursue Moral Equivalency, do it matching your Gray Matter
against that of a Squirrel.

Your posts are some of the most Ignorant (that means Uninformed)
on this site. Keep up the good work.

But he’s the president, and they’re like you know, the country’s mom and dad.

So we should suffer a little for them, and they should be able to have some fun. They’re like, taking care of us after all.

Yes. Government workers get pensions and ex-presidents get Secret Service details because there might be bad guys who want to kill them. That is different from throwing a personal shindig at the White House and flying in A-list singers for what should be a private affair. There are lots of additional security costs and staffing costs for such an event. Most people have private parties with family and friends for their B-days.

And Sasha and Malia can walk their own dog, so that the White House gardener can go back to making sure that the White House landscaping is kept nice for the tourists.

These two have a cute little dance step going.

Nicely done. Leads the viewer to also draw a stark contrast between Leonidas and McCain in terms of testicular fortitude. McCain is found all the more wanting in the comparison.

Bush made Carter and Nixon look good because, while the former was an ineffective bumbler and the latter evil and corrupt, the Bush presidency was an utter failure. You know, cratered economy, pointless and mismanaged wars, that big terrorist thingie….

urban elitist on March 11, 2013 at 5:24 PM

Over 1500 comments at HuffPo, nearly all of them expressing disgust. Mooch and the preezy are over-playing their hand.

And count me among those who are disappointed in Adele. Love her voice, but she’s singing for the fascists now. I don’t need to pay for that. Buh-bye, darlin’.

Cripes, it’s like Imelda Marcos sharing a glimpse of her astonishingly expansive and expensive shoe collection, so the little people could share in her joy.

These people are so abjectly oblivious, rofl.

urban effetist on March 11, 2013 at 4:51 PM

Sorry, but it was your Democrat Media that bitterly complained about Bush’s “excess” time on the golf course, and then remained totally incurious about his successor spending much more time on the golf course. Nope, no double standard there!

Blaming Bush, the last refuge of the defeated troll (Isn’t it about time you called us racist?).

gwelf on March 11, 2013 at 5:33 PM

Yes, Obama is so much worse than Bush. Because during the Obama years, my retirement savings have merely almost doubled, while the great President Bush made it possible for my 401k to lose half its value. And Bush bungled two whole wars, one of them completely pointless! Whereas clueless Obama has only ended one and begun winding down the other, not neatly as exciting, bloody or expensive. That Bush was a great man — hardly any terrorist attacks except that one — how I wish we had him back.

urban elitist on March 11, 2013 at 5:35 PM

Of course, if you actually read the article it turns out that the party is planned for next January — 2+ months after the sequester ends. But never let he facts get in the way of your frothing. Nothing makes you more angry than the Obamas having a good time, does it?

urban elitist on March 11, 2013 at 4:51 PM

Obama has campaigned for the last 5+ years as “one of the people” who hates the elite rich just as much as the oppressed masses yearning for redistribution and their fair shake yada yada yada. Class warfare is a stable of Obama’s rhetoric but he lives the super fat cat life – often at the public’s expense. He rails against the wealthy and repeatedly calls for shared sacrifice but lives the lifestyle of the .0000001%. He’s a hypocrite and a fraud.

Whenever the GOP threatens to cut the rate of growth of the budget he laments all the children that will go hungry and without shelter but will go on lavish vacations. I wonder how many children went hungry because Obama keeps flying around the country campaigning and going on lavish vacations?

gwelf on March 11, 2013 at 5:39 PM

the Bush presidency was an utter failure. You know, cratered economy due to Democrats refusing to rein in subprime lending, pointless and mismanaged wars that we Democrats signed off on, that big terrorist thingie that Bush’s Democrat predecessor left him because he simply couldn’t be bothered with anything other than interns and cigars….

urban elitist on March 11, 2013 at 5:24 PM

Was Bush’s AIDS policy in Africa an utter failure too? Your WaPo calls it his greatest legacy, and human rights activists like Bono agree.

And that Democrat predecessor that left Bush 9/11 had this to say, in September of last year:

I have to be grateful, and you should be too, that President George W. Bush supported PEPFAR. It saved the lives of millions of people in poor countries.

ldbgcoleman on March 11, 2013 at 5:40 PM

After their sequester skit, which skewered preezy, SNL might actually have a little fun with Mooch’s big party. They could show her having DC cleared of all the homeless people so Adele and Beyonce won’t have to step over them. Later, she and chubby Adele can be smashing on pizza and cake, and downing 20 oz. sodas. And for a finale, Beyonce’s husband Jay-Z could spray the room with gunfire…before retiring to a private room with Preezy and Reggie Love for some…quiet time.

The possibilities are endless.

Rational Thought on March 11, 2013 at 5:43 PM

Remember the scandal when Nancy Reagan wanted to order new china for the White House? The MSM hated the Reagans, but they luuuuuuuv the Obamas.

Ward Cleaver on March 11, 2013 at 4:47 PM

MSM keeps very silent about the Obamas’ expensive lifyle. So far, it’s been $4 million for their annual Hawaiian holiday, $1 million for Barack’s “golfing weekend,” who knows how much for Mooch and the Little Moochers to go skiiing in Colorado, the trip to Las Vegas for his comprehensive immigration reform speech? Couldn’t Barack round up a crowd of Hispanics in Maryland or Virginia?

But, what the heck, it’s only mid-March.
