Saving America – School confiscates cupcakes with toy soldiers on them

posted at 5:01 pm on March 9, 2013 by Jazz Shaw

Nobody wants unauthorized people bringing guns into schools, and schools are stepping up to make sure that doesn’t happen. But one elementary school in Michigan has taken the concept to new heights. (Or perhaps that should be depths.) It seems that we shouldn’t allow toy soldiers on school property either because, you know… they have guns.

A Michigan elementary school is defending its decision to confiscate a third-graders batch of homemade cupcakes because the birthday treats were decorated with plastic green Army soldiers.

Casey Fountain told Fox News that the principal of his son’s elementary school called the cupcakes “insensitive” — in light of the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut.

“It disgusted me,” he said. “It’s vile they lump true American heroes with psychopathic killers.”

Even after this incident went public, the principal decided not to back down. Reasoning such as this is truly stunning indeed.

Principal Susan Wright released a statement to local media defending the decision.

“These are toys that were commonplace in the past,” she wrote. “However, some parents prohibit all guns as toys. In light of that difference, the school offered to replace the soldiers with another item and the soldiers were returned home with the student.”

“Living in a democratic society entails respect for opposing opinions,” she stated. “In the climate of recent events in schools we walk a delicate balance in teaching non-violence in our buildings and trying to ensure a safe, peaceful atmosphere.”

Yes, toy soilders – both new ones and these older, WW2 style models – are frequently depicted with guns. They are also the good guys. Shall we also ban images of police officers from school? Is there some point where the weight of stories such as this will bring enough attention to this wave of hysteria that the public calls for it to stop? As Eric Owens at the Daily Caller illustrates, this is hardly a unique incident.

At D. Newlin Fell School in Philadelphia, school officials reportedly yelled at a student and then searched her in front of her class after she was found with a paper gun her grandfather had made for her. (RELATED: Paper gun causes panic)

In rural Pennsylvania, a kindergarten girl was suspended for making a “terroristic threat” after she told another girl that she planned to shoot her with a pink Hello Kitty toy gun that bombards targets with soapy bubbles.

At Roscoe R. Nix Elementary School in Maryland, a six-year-old boy was suspended for making the universal kid sign for a gun, pointing at another student and saying “pow.” That boy’s suspension was later lifted and his name cleared.

He’s got plenty more of them at the link, so click on through and check out all of the examples. This would almost be funny if it weren’t so tragic, particularly for a generation of kids who are now being traumatized a second time as the responsible adults in their lives continue to freak out and overreact. Sadly, I doubt we’ve heard the last of it by a long shot.

Automatic “eco” toilets that won’t let you flush, and then don’t work and so the shinola sits in the toilet bowl marinating until the maintenance crew is called 3 days later……

Dinging bells in your vehicle if you don’t have your seat belt on as you drive out of your driveway and down the street to a neighbors house to pick up your kids.

Trash cans with sensors on them that flag if you put too much in your trash can for the pathetic once a week trash pickup. And the cans stink all week long so you can’t keep them in your garage anymore (odor) and so you have to keep them outside of your house (and that in turn attracts field rats).

…..shower heads that have control devices in them that restrict the water flow to a fraction of what you need so you just have to run the freaking shower longer to do the same job that took you 1/2 the time with a normal shower head…….

…..toy soldier cupcakes that damage the psyche of small brains full of mush.

…Texas educators that monitor classes and promote that Communism is the top of the desired economic staircase.

And so it is in a culture where there is NO GOD, and there is NO COMMON SENSE.

Somewhere along the line, schools have become hyper-political sensitive.

I also,played with toy soldiers as a kid,and I certainly remember

A violation of the 1st amendment as far as I’m concerned. So are the stories about the school disciplining kids for gun shaped (supposedly) pastries and pieces of paper. It’s unconstitutional. Period. Regardless of what the SCOTUS has to say about it.

OK – here is what you do – get enough folks up in this school district – the father and how many others that are needed for a majority to get elected to the school board and get this principle fired. It wouldn’t take much money to do that.

Don’t just complain about – take her paycheck away. And insist to the superintendent she receive no letter of recommendation or they will be next.

We need to take the schools back – it could be done – for not that much money. The way we win is to replace the education establishment.

I think teachers today believe it is their calling to socially re-engineer our children. To train assertiveness, aggressiveness, competition, and individualism out of them. Stories like this one, or how even subjects like math and science are being graded based on approved social skills, and controls on children’s speech are symptomatic. We know they aren’t spending all that time imparting knowledge to them.

This lunacy has got to stop!

This is just plain meaningless cruelty perpetrated on innocent children by the insane! Plastic army men on cupcakes did not kill anyone at Sandy Hook. Pop tarts mushed into the shape of mountains that moronic teachers interpret to be shaped like guns did not kill anyone either. Index fingers and thumbs were not responsible for any shootings anywhere. Kid drawings of stick figures shooting guns are not responsible for any deaths ever in recorded history that we know of.

However, the insane are dangerous. The teacher who confiscated the plastic army men and the people who wrote the policy have more in common with shooters than the plastic toys ever could! They are all insane and cruel! None of them should ever be allowed around children! They are dangerously mentally ill!

These kind of policies are like the policies in Marxist countries. We had a pastor came visited our church a long time ago from China. He related the story about another person living in China he knew. This person went and visited some city and there was a large statue of Mao. There was a construction crew working in front of the statue and as this Chinese individual snapped a picture of the statue, one of the construction workers was swinging a pick. When he snapped the picture, the pic ax was pointed towards the statue. He kept the picture on his mantel and one day soldiers came to inspect his house. They examined the picture and hauled him off to jail and accused him of wanting to kill Mao… because the image caught a construction worker in mid swing and the pick ax was pointed towards Mao.

It is the same exact spirit. The same exact lunacy. The same insanity and they are doing it against our most vulnerable. Plain mean and viscous cruelty.

If we do not stop this… and our nation sinks deeper into socialism one day instead of just confiscating the plastic toys, they will incarcerate the parents and ship the kid off to a juvenile detention center.
If you think I am paranoid, you don’t know history.

Maybe there’s a notion in these idiots that terrorizing little kids is a way to make them never want guns or any other thing liberals deem ‘bad’.

I’m moving back to Pa. shortly from Ca. I September I sent my grandsons Roy Rogers holsters with silver cap guns. Remember those from the fifties? Found them on E-bay. There friends hounded (?) their parents for a set to and every weekend they play cowboys and Indians all over their big 8 block town. Even the girls got into it. And the local schools there are back to teaching gun safety to the students from 12 yrs old up. These kids start hunting with their dad’s, grandfather’s, and uncles at that age so the schools bring in instructors from the local Sportsmans lodges, and the forestry employees too. They learn a lot and they actually have a shooting range on numberous school properties. These women would have a stroke over that practice. My five kids all went thru these classes, they own a hunting and fishing camp together, and my youngest daughter was the State Skeet shooting champion for two years in a row back in the 80′s. None of them have ever thought of causing violence with their guns and they all have fully loaded gun cabinets passed down from their family members. They all also have concealed carry permits too. Now all 12 grandkids are involved and shot most weekends at the Sportman’s lodge. It is great family fun and teaches them how to work toward improving their aim and accuracy. And, NO, not everybody gets a trophy. Those they have to work for !!

We can thank our wonderful colleges of education for the mind-numbing stupidity of our public school teachers and administrators.

FDR’s policies had a lot of problems, to say the least, but if I was dictator I’d borrow one of them. Just like FDR did with the banks, I’d close every college of education tomorrow, and allow them to reopen only when they could demonstrate they weren’t run by cretins or edumarxists, or more likely, both.

Talk is cheap, action is better. Do you really want to clean up the school board and the teachers? Yes or no? Drug test the complete school board and all the staff at the school. You fail you’re gone. For these no tolerance schools this will be an immediate wake up call to the power structure and the unions would be useless because it’s in your rules no tolerance. I was drug tested on every job I went on and sometimes a random check more than once a day. Alcohol is considered a drug and if someone was tested in the morning many thought cocktails at lunch would be safe, wrong and gone.

Lib “logic”…

Toy soldiers (and similar “gun” related stuff”) on cupcakes in government run schools — intolerably bad, must crack down.

Extreme gun violence and frequent bloody and violent murders on TV and in movies that the same school age kids can easily watch — okay, no problem.

On the one hand libs are running the government schools funded by taxpayers.
On the other hand libs are creating the product and making a lot of money.

Apparently whatever libs do is okay, even when they contradict themselves and each other and are complete hypocrites.

I would not be surprised, at this rate, if the DoE began requiring public school children to attend school wearing uniforms: giant veegay uniforms such as Code Pink displayed.

This hypervigilence from public school teachers/administrators about “gun-shaped” and/or “gun-holding” figurines or objects indicates their derangement about these issues. It’s really a sickness, a sort of shared-paranoiac-hysteria that’s infected public school personnel.

What you just don’t want to be associated with “those people?” Afraid they’ll cancel your “No Labels” membership, or cancel your “New Yorker” subscription, or the barrista at Panera won’t respect you now, if you were to comment or hang out with those people?

JFKY on March 9, 2013 at 5:53 PM

That’s the point he is actually making though perhaps he could have made it better. He is pointing out that for the establishment Republicans, too often the source is attacked rather than the truth of it dealt with in substance.

sharrukin on March 9, 2013 at 6:01 PM

Thanks, sharrukin…JFKY, I was being sarcastic…

I became more open to a lot of this “conspiracy theory” stuff about 25 years ago via Bill Cooper (who tore apart Alex Jones’s Y2K broadcast which wasn’t unlike Orson Welles’s War of the Worlds broadcast), and even Bill Cooper was out there on some things (UFO stuff and I guess the Kennedy’s driver was the assassin bit).

These men are part of “infotainment” and they have to come up with some bizarre stuff or else they’d be sitting there in front of a mic twiddling their thumbs on many days.

Alex Jones does present a lot of real news I would probably miss elsewhere, and some different insights. Doesn’t mean I believe everything that comes out of his mouth, but I’m not willing to throw out the baby with the bathwater. Also, him going “Obaaaamaaa-Obaaaamaaa” when making fun of Obama supporters is priceless. And, he very strongly supports the Second Amendment and is ant-abortion.

Dr. ZhivBlago on March 9, 2013 at 7:44 PM

My experience with grade school was that teachers were quite studious in instructing me/us in academics. None of this current Leftwing socio-political indoctrination, it was all and only about what you learned and how well you learned it.

The communication between school and parents was on report cards (about academics) and on the annual parent-teacher night with mostly it being a fun, laughing experience with adults trying to sit in those tiny desks.

Today’s public education system is a mess, a nightmare, of Leftwing socio-political gobbledy-gook aimed at humiliating just about everyone.

Lourdes on March 9, 2013 at 7:49 PM

If the DNC was pro-second amendment rights, public schools would be handing out “required” toy guns and instruction manuals on target shooting.

It’s not a question of tolerance. Equating men who fought for their country with a mass murderer of children is despicable, and I have zero interest in tolerating that kind of bullshit. Posting a picture of some leftist freaks anti-military statement for this story is adding to that insult.

sharrukin on March 9, 2013 at 8:02 PM

Heh, I sent my son to a military elementary school. No, not a school for bad kids, but a private academy, a really neat little school. They have a cannon they fire at the various parades and ceremonies. They have little rifles on their uniform insignia.

A northern liberal would see that either go into full-on conniptions, or spontaneously combust.

JFKY on March 9, 2013 at 8:11 PM

From a commenter on George Will’s Pop-Tart Terrorist post: (emphasis added)

There are now dozens of examples just like the few that Will highlights that have taken place in our public schools. This is a trend of liberal child educators and liberal administrators deliberate attempts to shame children that do not conform or otherwise exhibit to their twisted ideology.

Their message to these young and vulnerable minds is, if you do not play in the manner we find acceptable, we will make examples of you, and make you outcasts.

Do not let liberals get away with shaming your children. Let these out of control, overwrought, effete people know that political correctness is a two way street. As an example, if a teacher points a finger at your child, instruct your child to immediately go to the principal and report that the teacher was pointing a finger gun.

If the teacher points an eraser at your child, instruct your child to immediately go to the principal and report that the teacher was using the eraser like a gun to scare your child. As the offended parent, demand that the teacher be fired. Demand a public apology from the school district and demand that the teacher be required to go through counseling and sensitivity courses in order to ensure that your child and others are not frightened by teachers insensitive gestures ever again.

Fight back. Do not let overbearing, out of control liberals label and shame your children.

Living in a democratic society entails respect for opposing opinions,

said the self-appointed ‘Cupcake Nazi’.

“In the climate of recent events in schools we walk a delicate balance in teaching non-violence in our buildings and trying to ensure a safe, peaceful atmosphere.”

““By not permitting toy soldiers on cupcakes at school, no disrespect for our military or for the brave men and women who defend our rights to have our differences was intended,”

Of course it was. You make no distinction between WWII GIs and wackos that slaughter kindergarteners. They’re both ‘violent’ which is ‘bad’.

It comes from an art collective called http://www.wearedorothy.com.

http://twentytwowords.com/2011/05/05/plastic-toy-soldiers-reimagined-to-represent-the-effects-of-war/

One shows a soldier about to kill himself and another shows a soldier either beating up or about to rape a woman.

This bitch with a degree in education has harmed more children over her career than the Sandy Hook shooter. I can say that with certitude. The shooter harmed twenty innocent souls but just how many minds has this bitch poisoned over the course of her career with free reign to inject her hatred on them when they are most vulnerable?

katy the mean old lady on March 9, 2013 at 8:44 PM

Even after this incident went public, the principal decided not to back down. Reasoning such as this is truly stunning indeed.

But par for the course in education. Education departments are the WORST departments in just about every university that has them. Average GRE scores for intended education grads is not even up to the level of “pathetic”. The education grad students do worse on the math sections than even the English grads!

Education is the department where the dumbest people go … and then deign to instruct those of us with brains about … well, anything. Education majors and grad students are too stupid to be allowed to even open their mouths in public. It’s about time that people started telling them to just shut their yaps and try to teach the damn course materials (which are beyond most of them).

This nation has really sunk to the depths. We have an idiot in the White House who talks about “profit AND earnings ratios” (a mistake that no eighth grader with half a brain would make) and then tries to instruct us on issues that are clearly well beyond his comprehension – which isn’t tough as he really doesn’t understand much of anything that involves numbers greater than 20 and he certainly doesn’t understand a thing about fractions or percentages (“reduce premiums by 3000%!!”). Added to that, we have let the retards in education decide how children should think. The education folks are too stupid and too demented to even be in adult conversations, let alone set policies that go far beyond their scope. And yet, so few are willing to tell them, “STFU! You people are just stupid … and nasty, but mostly stupid.”

Education grads – lowest mean GRE scores of ALL graduate students in ALL disciplines. THE LOWEST!

You’re the dingbat who likes to defend images of soldiers beating or raping women and try to pass it off as helpful. Why a bunch of artists from Manchester England are so concerned about US soldiers isn’t exactly clear, but maybe they are just that caring? I hear Code Pink is recruiting…maybe they have an opening for you? According to your logic they aren’t leftist freaks either.

sharrukin on March 9, 2013 at 9:04 PM

“By not permitting toy soldiers on cupcakes at school, no disrespect for our military or for the brave men and women who defend our rights to have our differences was intended,” she wrote.

This, along with the

“Living in a democratic society entails respect for opposing opinions,”

bit, show that what results in this sort of ‘progressive’ world is that everyone has to descend to the lowest common denominator. No, we don’t mean any insult to our military, we only think everyone ought to “respect” (accept, really) other people’s viewpoints – no matter how whack they might be. We shouldn’t tread on their toes, even if they go barefoot to a ballroom dance.

Dr. ZhivBlago on March 9, 2013 at 5:21 PM

Because even a blind nut finds a squirrel once in a while? Errr… something like that.

I think teachers today believe it is their calling to socially re-engineer our children.

Socratease on March 9, 2013 at 6:03 PM

GWB on March 9, 2013 at 9:13 PM

From the page selling those “sculptures”:

The hell of war comes home.
…since returning from duty in Iraq had been involved in brawls, beatings, rapes, drunk driving, drug deals, domestic violence, shootings, stabbings, kidnapping and suicides. Returning soldiers were committing murder at a rate 20 times greater than other young American males.

If it weren’t for these couple of sentences, and the “20 times greater” I might be able to believe it was intended to really connect with our veterans, somehow. But, yeah, pretty much another bleeding heart who sees the soldier as nothing more than a victim. This bs is why my dad refused to watch Rambo – he was sick and tired of his fellow Vietnam vets being treated as if they were twisted and made mad by the war, though not a single vet he knew was in that situation.

So, mean kate, yes, I will agree with sharrukin (after doing the research) that the person producing these is a leftist and doesn’t even probably understand how to honor veterans. (BTW, I would also guess they are not made in America, as the website states: “generating a lot of interest in the USA and Canada”.)
