Video: “Iron Man 3″ trailer

posted at 6:21 pm on March 6, 2013 by Allahpundit

To cleanse the palate, is this “Iron Man” or “Iron Men”? There … seems to be a lot of them in the last few seconds here. Having partnered Tony Stark with a bunch of co-heroes in “The Avengers,” maybe they couldn’t resist doubling down. Oh well: If you enjoy the eternal superhero plotline of the protagonist being initially defeated by his villainous archrival only to battle back against all odds and save the day, I think you’ll be okay here.

Elsewhere in sci-fi/fantasy franchises, this is happening, guys. I don’t know why it’s happening — the odds of it being schlocky rather than effective are overwhelmingly high — but it is.

I like what seems to be the Thorbuster armor there.

I’m fine with the original characters coming back and doing their roles again. The first trilogy was fun. They belong in these films just as much as anyone else.

Mmm…Gweneth Paltrow…

Er..I mean, great trailer. Seems to be a blending of the Mandarin & Extremis storylines.

I like the movie but the suit is just a little too convenient. The damn thing is skin tight, heavily armored, has rockets and bazookas that magically appear and then retract and apparently protects you from any impact.
The suit may survive a crash but the guy inside would be pulverized like an egg inside a tennis ball can.

who, The Mandarin? Long time Iron Man villain.

The ten rings in his hands should have given it away; It’s The Mandarin. He was also referenced in the first Iron Man movie, the terrorist cell that was involved being named as part of the “Ten Rings” in conversation.

============

I do wonder,a flashback,or,does she go back in time!

Hmmmmm…

canopfor on March 6, 2013 at 7:20 PM

Oh gawd, Carrie Fisher is coming back? I’m assuming we’ll get a story line about how Leia has emotional problems and copes with them by buying drugs from Boba Fett or something.

BigWillieStyles on March 6, 2013 at 6:24 PM

Geek – ON.

According to one site I came across, the thought was that the armor was actually “Hulkbuster” armor, though upon further research they discovered that it wasn’t, just similar.

I never read Iron Man – I was pretty strictly a Thor guy – but the Mandarin was apparently a big enough villain in Stark’s dealings.

Saw the first Iron Man. Didn’t see the second – previews didn’t impress. This one looks good enough to watch.

On a tangential note, would be neat to see a Hulk/Wolverine match. That’s a classic one from the world of Marvel.

Logus on March 6, 2013 at 9:44 PM

The last suit shown in the trailer is indeed the Hulkbuster armor.

This movie, along with with the other upcoming movies (Captain America 2, Thor 2, Guardians of The Galaxy, and SHIELD tv series are happening simultaneously.

That is why Tony Stark is controlling his armors (which will be explained in the movie) who are his backup instead of his Avengers buddies.

OK, not sure if I understand the trailer, but it sure seems like the storyline involves Mandarin attacking the US, Tony Stark not giving a f*** because it doesn’t affect him, only once Mandarin attacks Tony Stark personally does he stop having issues sleeping and step up to the plate?

Does Hollywood support pre-emptive strikes on Iran now? I mean, since when has Hollywood supported patriotic initiative for young people to fight for their country before the fight comes to them?

BigGator5 on March 7, 2013 at 7:08 AM

The return of Princess Leia? Nobody picked up that she might not be serious?

From Fisher’s wry point of view, Leia would be elderly and living in an intergalactic old folks’ home but still sporting the same infamous hairdo from the first film and the bikini from the third one.

“The bagel buns and the bikini, because probably she has sundowners syndrome,” Fisher said. “At sundown, she thinks that she’s 20-something. And she puts it on and gets institutionalized.”

I’d like to think they would make better use of their layers of fact-checkers….
