Powers: Someone should really ask Obama to define the word “transparency”

posted at 12:41 pm on March 6, 2013 by Erika Johnsen

Almost a full six months after the terrorist attack in Benghazi, Libya that resulted in the deaths of four Americans, the investigation is still very much ongoing — on multiple fronts. The joint CIA and FBI effort to catch the leading perpetrators is apparently not making much progress:

Officials say U.S. authorities do not yet have a full understanding of who planned and carried out the two brief but intense assaults, nearly eight hours apart, on a lightly guarded diplomatic compound and a nearby CIA base late on Sept. 11 and early the next day.

Investigators have identified several people who were present during the terrorist attacks, but none has been definitively linked to the deaths.

“It is going painfully slowly,” said Rep. Adam B. Schiff (D-Burbank), a member of the House Intelligence Committee who has been briefed on the investigation. “We don’t have access to all the people we’d like to have access to.” …

The Senate Intelligence Committee cleared Brennan’s CIA nomination on Tuesday, 12-3; vice chairman Sen. Saxby Chambliss voted no, but also said that “I don’t intend to encourage a filibuster of Mr. Brennan… I think it will run its normal course and he’ll probably be confirmed.” Not if Sens. McCain and Graham have anything to say about it, though; they’re still looking for answers on Benghazi and they say they intend to get them:

Sens. John McCain (R-Ariz.) and Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) will continue to push for details on the Benghazi Consulate attack even if it disrupts the confirmation process for a new Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) director, the pair said Sunday.

Speaking on “Face the Nation,” Graham insisted that John Brennan’s nomination should not move forward until we “get to the bottom of” what happened in Libya.

“John and I are hell-bent on making sure the American people understand this debacle called Benghazi,” Graham said.

“I’m trying to find out what happened on that night so we won’t have other Benghazis, and I’m not going to vote for Brennan until the CIA … lets us know who did it and why and we have a picture of what happened in real-time.”

But the Special Report panel last night agreed that the White House doesn’t seem all that urgently interested in getting to the bottom of exactly what happened in Benghazi; it looks like they’re kind of hoping everybody will just stop caring and we can all move on. As Kirsten Powers elucidates, this administration seems to have a conveniently malleable idea of the definition of “transparency.”

There they go again. Treating terrorism like a law enforcement issue.

If Obama running guns to drug gangs in Mexico and getting hundreds of people killed didn’t get any traction, I doubt Obama running guns to Islamists in Libya/Syria and getting four people killed will either.

Though it would be amusing to see Boehner respond to Obama’s gun control agenda with the statement that the House will not examine with any such legislation until Obama provides all documents on his gun running activities.

But…that would require guts on Boehner part and the media would likely say bad things about him.

heh. I heard KirPow say that. Thought it was a great little nugget and tweeted her remark immediately. One of the few libs whose perceptions occasionally pierce her politics, unlike the vast majority of them.

Every now and again Kirsten will open her eyes to reality and call the charlatan out. She’s one of a few libs that I will listen to, but not very often.

Investigators have identified several people who were present during the terrorist attacks, but none has been definitively linked to the deaths.

Depends on what the meaning of present is. They claimed they had real time vieo of the incidents. They had personell being attacked and reporting back asking for assistance. I know Obama, Hillary and several others are responsible for the situation but for some reason they are not held accountable for their own (lack of) actions.

DanMan on March 6, 2013 at 12:58 PM

I can’t stand liberals, even on the rare examples they’re pretty.

Instead of whining about Obama–who Powers surely voted for–how about the lib do some real journalism for once and get to the bottom of things.

But she won’t. She’s just another liberal.

Someone forward this to Kirsten Powers and ask her if she thinks this is the fault of George W. Bush……4 years plus after he left office.

Transfrickingparency? We can’t even get the economy moving after $6 trillion in deficit spending and the Fed blowing up the banks with free money for them to invest in the stock market. How are we going to get any insight into how much is being wasted from this Regime?

http://philadelphia.cbslocal.com/2013/03/06/study-shows-more-americans-are-raiding-401k-accounts-to-pay-bills/

DOWNINGTOWN, Pa. (CBS) — A new national study shows that too many of us are cashing out 401(k) accounts to pay bills. If that retirement account is calling your name, a financial expert advises you to stop listening.

When the bills pile up and money is tight, many people turn to their 401(k) accounts to help ease the bind.

Downingtown, Pa. CPA Jacquelyn Basso says it’s not a good idea to raid your retirement; you’re getting money now that you’ll need to live on when you’re older.

“You can borrow from your 401(k) and pay back yourself and maybe not incur a penalty. But if you lose your job or leave your job, you have to pay it all back and if you can’t pay it back, you’ll be subject to the penalties and the taxes,” Basso explained.

She says if you’re thinking of taking cash out of your 401(k), remember you’ll have to pay a 10-percent penalty and income taxes now, so you actually lose some of your savings paying those off.

Powers is a liberal. Therefor, any ‘criticism’ of Obama she puts forth is just another lie. Shes just doing the typical liberal thing: Trying to seem fair when we all know liberals are never honest for decent about anything.

As it’s been said: Never get suckered by a pretty face.

Brilliant. Simply a brilliant journalist.

Kind of like the same brilliance to ask a rapist not to rape you rather than double tapping them as they reach out to grab you.

The government is figuring out how to seize all those 401K plans, which amount to about $19 trillion. Then they’ll decide how much you can have from your investment.

Powers is a liberal. Never trust anything she says.

She’s playing both sides of the fence, she pretends to be honest but she can afford to, she dinks at the administration all the while with a haughty holier than thou, FU Tea Baggers attitude so blatantly obvious, its disgusting.

Speakup on March 6, 2013 at 1:33 PM

She can disagree with the right and still have integrity. It’s possible.

The more importnat point is that someone, anyone in media is willing to call out the administration on this issue. Powers basically thinks the Obama administration would benefit from being more honest and transparent, and while I disagree I could honestly care less how they get there so long as they get there.

MTF on March 6, 2013 at 1:39 PM

I get the impression that Kirsten Powers is seeing this Obama Administration for the Smoke and Mirrors show it really is.

KOOLAID2 on March 6, 2013 at 2:09 PM

More than anything the incurious nature of the press should be disturbing to every American.

The President not only avoids responsibility for these murders due the their indifference, but he has hidden from giving a full accounting to the American people he works for with their loyal assistance.

There was a time when the press had an important role in protecting our democracy. Through tenacity and blindly honest investigation in pursuit of truths they would uncover and pursue an honest accounting.

But apparently now truth, which never had or should have a party affiliation, has a new despotic master the media follow unflinchingly and without any intellectual intervention.

The media has become nothing but a bunch of lazy useless dupes, propagandists and useful idiots who wouldn’t know the truth if it landed on their house.

Marcus Traianus on March 6, 2013 at 2:14 PM

Transparency…he will march out documents showing he has turned over more pages of information than anyone before him, has given “access” to more information than any prior president…of course the documents are worthless and redacted to the point of being useless, and the “information” just as useless…but his minions don’t care, he will have the “facts” and they will nod their head in agreement.

Obamanitions:

“Transparency – The act of obfuscation.”

Had the Ivy League educated buffoon not pulled, multiple times, his “Corpseman” buffoonery, his use of the term, “Obfuscation,” might’ve worked.

Alas, someone who is too stupid to be able to pronounce, “Corpsman,” is too stupid to come up with the term, “Obfuscation.”

I’ll try, again, and get back with the thread.
