WaPo: Another two Pinocchios for Obama’s Janitorgeddon

posted at 10:01 am on March 2, 2013 by Ed Morrissey

What a shock! You mean the same President who sent his Education Secretary out to make baseless claims about the sequester putting teachers out of work told a whopper about pay cuts for janitors and security guards?  So says Glenn Kessler at the Washington Post, and, er … the Architect of the Capitol that employs them:

“Starting tomorrow everybody here, all the folks who are cleaning the floors at the Capitol. Now that Congress has left, somebody’s going to be vacuuming and cleaning those floors and throwing out the garbage. They’re going to have less pay. The janitors, the security guards, they just got a pay cut, and they’ve got to figure out how to manage that. That’s real.” …

We have embedded an image of the document below. Stephen T. Ayers, the  architect of the Capitol, listed a number of steps being taken to reduce expenses, including limiting new hiring and postponing repairs. This line jumped out at us: “We do not anticipate furloughs for AOC employees as a result of Sequestration.”

Here is the memo for all to see:

Dear AOC Employees by

The White House then tried to argue that the sequester would cut overtime, but Kessler isn’t buying that explanation:

A White House official notes that the memo does refer to “further reducing overtime.” Technically, that could mean some janitors might see less pay, but it’s unclear how many actually earn overtime. Under the reasonable person test, a possible reduction in overtime appears a bit different than “just got a pay cut.”

[Update: Another White House official says that the janitors, both part time and full time, are contracted out by the Architect of the Capitol. “Since the AOC said that the contracts would be reduced or eliminated, it’s hard to convincingly make the case those contract workers won’t be affected,” he said. In other words, White House officials assume there is an impact but they are not exactly sure themselves.

In other words for those other words, no one actually bothered to check this claim before Obama made it at the press conference.  Why not?  Apparently, they don’t care about getting caught fibbing and demagoguing, and the rest of the media (Kessler aside) doesn’t seem to be checking up on their claims, especially those that fit their class-warfare paradigm.

Kessler gave Obama two Pinocchios for this hyperbolic allegation, but Obama’s entire PR effort — including today’s “What more do you want me to do?” performance — deserves a federal budgetful of Pinocchios.

The AOC doesn’t seem to be down with Firemen First – preplanning for a budget cut? Preposterous!

LOL. Even if this were true, WHO CARES? Personally, I don’t give a rat’s azz if all unionized government employees take a pay cut, or get laid off – this is exactly what we need.

But, if turdhead is so worried about these people being under-paid for all of the hard “work” they have to do, he and his worthless, lazy family should jump in and help them. Come on, give FLOTUS FATASS a mop and put her to work (LET’S MOVE it, b*tch!), the kids can vacuum, obama’s mother-in-law can scrub toilets, and the rest of the obama and Robinson family members who are OCCUPYING every dark little corner of OUR White House can put down their blunts and do their FAIR SHARE (for the first time in their lives).

The Pinocchio generation started the day of Obama’s first inauguration and will continue as long as the liberal media stays glued to the lies this administration delivers. Yet, it appears that Obama’s media is finally getting a little tired of printing garbage while the public laughs at their fodder. Kessler should be receiving a warning from the WH staff any day now.

This whole irresponsible fight against the Sequester and making any cuts at all, is why The Petty Dictator went and issued the proclamation a couple weeks ago that all federal employees were to be given raises.

Somebody needs to explain to me why they would care about getting caught fibbing when the people in charge of “caught fibbing” are nowhere to be found?

Remember the good old days (during any republican presidency) when the MSM actually investigated stuff and asked hard, and even sometimes biased, questions?

Many non-federal government agencies are taking steps to cut costs. My school district privatized the janitors and school bus drivers this year.

bw222 on March 2, 2013 at 10:54 AM

Obama has been lying to the American people since he started campaigning for the Presidency in 2007. Had Team Romney had the guts, they would have shoved the lies back in Obama’s face during ther casmpaign. But, people like Stu Stevens, Kevin Madden and Mike Murphy wanted to keep their friends on the left.

After listening to our president over the past few days, I have come to the inescapable conclusion that he enjoys stereotyping and vilifying his opponents, he enjoys placing himself above the battle, and he enjoys predicting horrendous outcomes for those of us too dumb to see his wisdom.

What kind of a person enjoys the suffering of others?

esr1951 on March 2, 2013 at 11:13 AM

Frankly………..the “Jedi Mind Meld” comment is much more interesting and revealing.

Along with his “Dictator” statement.

But WE already know he would love to be a dictator, so that’s old news for us.

But the Yahoo News voter doesn’t care, and they only read the headline that reads “Obama blames republicans”.

And so the carousel goes around again.

Were these lies about the Jewish janitors Barky liked to talk about or some other group of janitors that deserve heightened scrutiny? Barky really has a thing about janitors.

Barky isn’t even qualified to be a janitor. He would never be able to figure out how to use a mop … not coincidently, another of Barky’s pet talking points.

I have to disagree. They are out in full force, rewriting what Owebama did and didn’t say so that he won’t be caught fibbing.

And as far as the “federal budget” comment – what’s a federal budget? I thought these were extinct.

katablog.com on March 2, 2013 at 11:39 AM

Obama the Great Planter destroyed a cabbage patch by over watering. The media looked the other way (or blamed the opposition),

Obama then allowed tomatoes to wither and die through neglect. “Actually it was was the previous farmer’s fault (GWB)” crowed the media in unison.

The leaves of Obama’s orchard trees fell out early and the apples and pears were small, deformed, sour and inedible. “What beautiful fruit!!!” exclaimed the media.

Obama’s corn fields produced ears destroyed by smut and insects. “Corn is actually carcinogenic and its syrup is responsible for obesity. Thank you for saving us!” said the adoring throng of reporters.

Obama’s potatoes rotted in the ground but the Fourth Estate were too busy fixating on the POTUS’ golf swing with Tiger Woods to notice.

Dozens of other crops turned rust-brown from over fertilization or under-watering but didn’t FLOTUS look charming at the Oscars!!!!

“I think my record for growing crops speaks for itself” Obama said with a poker face “Give me another 4 years and I’ll give you more of the same”. “That’s right!” echoed the adulating press corps “let him double down on his past accomplishments”.” And so it came to pass.

MaiDee on March 2, 2013 at 11:48 AM

The problem is, Obama’s flat out bald faced lie in his news conference gets national media news attention and headlines, while the subsequent examination and exposure of obama’s lie doesnt get any of the attention that his original lie garners. No mainstream media news source will go back and expose and broadcast obama’s lie in any subsequent newscast, so the majority of the public will still erroneously believe that White house janitors today are receiving a pay cut. Because Obama said it, and the media reported it, it must be true.

The media doesnt have a vested interest in providing accurate info to the public, their vested interest is in advancing obama’s policies and agenda.

Mission Accomplished.

Cavalry on March 2, 2013 at 12:23 PM

And 10% of all parachutes will be cut from the 101st and 82nd Airborne!

The janitors will have that too clean up, too!

profitsbeard on March 2, 2013 at 12:23 PM

I’ve said this before, but one of the dirty little secrets of this sequester is that our full-time Air/Army National Guard technicians are also going to be receiving a 20% pay cut because technically they are paid the same way our federal Civil Service employees are. So yes, our military members who wear a uniform to work every day and defend our country are going to be affected by Obama and Congress’ fun little exercise in fear mongering. And in the interests of disclosure, I am one of those troops who is being told to anticipate a furlough beginning in mid-April.

I think there should be cuts and the sequester is at least one way to get them, but cutting my pay in favor of fully funding 100,000 new IRS employees to oversee Obamacare’s implementation just makes no sense. And don’t get me started on Obama’s notion of “shared sacrifice” yet none of these clowns responsible for this inside the Beltway are going to see a dime of cuts to their bloated salaries or benefits.
