DWS: GOP is trying to “abdicate their responsibility” to faceless bureaucrats

posted at 7:21 pm on February 27, 2013 by Erika Johnsen

Do you think maybe the White House is regretting that “we have no flexibility with which to implement these across-the-board cuts” talking point a little bit? (‘Er, no, we didn’t mean that we actually wanted more flexibility, we just meant that as a talking point with which to dissuade sequestration altogether so we could keep charging ahead with hiking taxes.)

Here to explain away why those “dramatic, indiscriminate, and across the board cuts” (of the president’s invention, I might add) are all Republicans’ fault, Democratic Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz immediately dodges Mitchell’s question on why the president is meeting with Congressional leaders for the first time, the day after the cuts are supposed to hit:

“The Republicans are insisting, are actually going to allow the sequester to occur, abdicate their responsibility. They are actually suggesting giving our responsibility in Congress to the president, which would mean that nameless, faceless bureaucrats in federal agencies would decide on the spending cuts as opposed to members of Congress like me, who are elected by our constituents to make that decision. They have to see the wizard and grow some courage.”

Okay, so let’s accept your premise that Republicans are “abdicating responsibility” with their proposal to give the president more flexibility with how this approximately 1 to 2 percent budget cut is implemented — that certainly doesn’t disguise the fact that president Obama is avoiding that same responsibility like the plague.

Closing loopholes for big oil and corporate jets? Come on. Those gimmicky, piddling efforts will cover the scope of President Obama’s spending habits for about five seconds. As Krauthammer succinctly put it last night, this isn’t really about any particular concern for our national debt and deficit; it’s about sequester never coming to pass so the White House can keep justifying their quest to force the wealthy into paying their idea of a “fair share” to pay for the expanding state. It’s all the same misleading junk math and class warfare we’ve heard before:

Well, he did it again. He went back to the corporate jet loophole. Well, I did the math on the way over. If you collected for the hundred years, it will not cover a month of Obama spending, the corporate jet loophole. If you collect it for a century it is less than what Obama spends in a month. It’s a joke, it’s a way of making a point. It’s the old class war stuff, it’s meaningless. And it shows when he talks about loopholes all he is interested in is raising taxes so that he can spend.

Obama wants to close loopholes not so he can encourage economic expansion with lower rates of taxation, he wants it so he can spend it on entitlements. He is the entitlement president and what all of this is about is creating enough revenue, increasing American taxation, so that he can have an entitlement state as you have in Europe, which requires the European levels of taxation. He’s not interested in debt, he’s not interested in cutting, he’s not interested in deficits. He wants to spend because he wants expanded state.

CW on February 27, 2013 at 7:47 PM

Just about every working American has seen a 2% cut in their take-home pay this year due to the jump in Social Security (FICA for you purists) Tax. That is a very real, very current drop in a family’s available cash money.

For 2013, the sequestration is only 1/2 of a 2.5% decrease in the 7% pay-raise the Obama and the Democrats think they are entitled to. For the math challenged, the Federal Government’s budget year ends October 1st, and the effects of sequestration are not expected to hit until April. April to October = 6 months = 1/2 year. See… math is easy. And… it don’t lie.

I remember the “I Like Ike” presidency. I have never seen this amount of dishonesty out of a president. This guy makes Nixon and Clinton look like Comedy Channel amateur night.

The GOP is abdicating their responsibility. I hate to agree with Dopey Washername Schitz but it’s correct. Stopped clock and all. What the GOP is contemplating is un-Constitutional, really, as Congress is in charge of the purse strings and, if anything, should be looking to exercise more authority over spending and to impeach Barky when he tries to assault America through spending and selected government action. To release illegals in order to threaten America is treason. To destroy defense in order to scare America into giving him more money is treason. Etc. The GOP is on the very wrong side on this and is just carrying out their usual cowardly, stupid, pathetic strategy of … I don’t even know what their strategy is, other than to just cave in the most ridiculous way possible.

The House GOP should be looking towards impeachment over Barky’s abuse of power with the pretend cuts rather than looking to give the Retard Sukarno more power.

Erica writes:
Closing loopholes for big oil and corporate jets? Come on.

On Charlie Rose, Lawrence Summers just gave that same talking point, about loopholes for corporate jets. Of course right away I thought “Senator Menendez”. Not the association he was thinking? Ha.

Check this out: when asked if Republicans were sincere, doing their best, that kind of thing … you won’t believe what he said. He said, yes, but … some Republicans are pursuing an “ends justifies the means” approach. (HA! That’s the method of Liberals. Conservatives are about following the law, the rules, decorum … anyway …).

As an example, Summers said that some Republicans were threatening to DEFAULT ON OUR DEBT if it came to that. But … WHAT Republican ever said such a thing? They suggested not raising the debt ceiling. That is in no way, shape, or form a threat to default on our debt. We can choose not raise the debt ceiling, and continue to pay interest on the debt from existing revenues — no problem.

In fact, it was Obama who both this year and last who said HE’D default on the debt if it came to that. Last year he asked, rhetorically, with a smirk and a sneer, if he was forced to choose between paying Social Security checks or paying interest on the debt to the Chinese, which do you think he’d choose? (the clear implication is he’d default on the interest payments) And this year, he and his minions were the only ones intimating a default if the debt ceiling wasn’t raised. Name one Republican who advocated that.

Lawrence Summers, past key man in the Obama admin, and current Obama apologist, on national TV, lying his ass off about the Republicans. Former President of Harvard … and he so glibly lies? It’s pitiful!

ButterflyDragon on February 27, 2013 at 8:09 PM

It’s nice Woodward would say something, but just a speed bump.

I think Rs will cave on the tax/spending cuts…they won’t be able to handle the pressure of the left.media pounding on them locally and nationally. I’m sure that every newscaster will be given copy to read about the local Horrors that the Rs have inflicted on the good people of X.

i’m sure barry is looking forward to it. As is the left wrt single payer…here’s Phillip Klein

In 1993 and 1994, for instance, when the Clintons were pushing their national health care plan, the conservative movement rose up to successfully defeat it. But then, instead of taking advantage of the intervening 15 years to advance market-based solutions to health care, conservative activists largely ignored the issue.

A few scholars such as Sally Pipes, John Goodman, Grace-Marie Turner, David Hogberg and Greg Scandlen were consistently writing about how to foster the creation of a consumer-based medical system. But health care just didn’t generate any passion at the grassroots level until Obama began his health care push. CPAC is not responsible for this reality, but the issues the conference chooses to focus on are certainly a reflection of the pulse of the conservative movement.

conservatives are regrettably reactionary. We would rather live our own lives, making our own way. Regrettably the culture is crumbling around us, and honestly…there is really nothing we can do

The national rate of illegitimacy is 40 percent (55 percent under 30)…..or as a famous feminist once said…fish don’t need bicycles (or something like that)

anyway…we’re a little late on the culture thing. Pat Buchanan was smeared and hectored about his views on the culture war 20 years ago

anyway…that’s my prediction. Higher Taxes and keep the spigots on full blast…and, yes, more QE

A lot of these fit, though they remind me more of Obama than DWS:

27 guidelines of a sociopath

1. Glibness and superficial charm. This is the stock and trade of the superficial sociopath.

2. They are always charming and beguilingly plausible. Especially with those who they feel can protect or enhance the sociopath’s position.

3. They excel at deception. This should never be underestimated…but always is.

4. They excel at evasion of accountability. They are extremely and successfully manipulative of people’s perceptions and emotions.

5. They easily identify those who are essential to the sociopath’s survival. Manipulates the perceptions of him/her by making them feel special. Thus these people feel obligated to reciprocate by supporting and protecting the sociopath, who has been so generous.

6. They manipulate others into making fools of themselves, situations where they can’t back down from, or which they can’t withdraw. These people then become extremely susceptible to further manipulation. As a result of this manipulation, these individuals are then trapped as pawns… Pawns in the sociopath’s game.

7. Sociopathic individuals are skilled at identifying, undermining, discrediting, neutralizing, and destroying anyone who sees through the sociopath’s mask of sanity and threatens to expose the façade.

8. They will pursue endless vindictive vendettas against anyone perceived as a threat. Real or imagined. Anyone who makes efforts to the hold a sociopath accountable or expose them is a threat to them.

9. When faced with accountability, or unwelcome attention, which might trigger others to discern their true nature, the sociopath responds with repeated and escalating attempts to control, manipulate, and punish.

10. They are adept at deflecting all such attempts and accusations and will skillfully turn the tables back on the accusers. Anyone who tries to hold them accountable for their actions will be punished in some fashion.

11. Skilled at creating conflict, they will often cause rifts between individuals who might jointly figure things out. “Divide and conquer” is another of the sociopath’s talents. It deflects the attention from them.

12. They know what people want to hear in the way of explanations. This individual will anticipate this. Allowing them to credibly put together an explanation that most people will not question.

13. They can easily win people over before betraying them, deceiving them, or ripping them off. They will exploit anyone who has vulnerability. They will become pushy and extremely persuasive.

14. They are often sexually inadequate and sexually abusive. The sociopath is able to mimic emotions and apply it convincingly at appropriate times.

15. The sociopath cannot be trusted with money. They are reckless in their spending habits. Criminal or near-criminal offenses i.e. fraud and embezzlement are entirely within their scope.

16. The sociopath can get caught up in a complex belief about their own powers and abilities. They have a skewed sense of self-importance.

17. “Winning” is paramount to the sociopath. No matter the cost to themselves or others. They will dominate and humiliate their victims in order to drain them of their resources.

18. Poor behavior control and impulsive nature. Rage and abuse, alternating with small expressions of love and approval. The rage, abuse, and reward pattern provides an addictive cycle for abuser and abused.

19. The sociopath is preoccupied with fantasies of unlimited success, power, brilliance, or ideal love. Anyone who has something to offer and shows vulnerability will be prey for this predator.

20. Irresponsibility and unreliability. They are not concerned about destroying the lives and people they encounter. They will never accept the blame, but instead blame others, even actions they’ve obviously committed.

21. They sociopath may steal and defraud for some obscure purpose Often throwing away much money for short term goals. The do not see it as a waste and it serves an immediate need. There will be other victims.

22. The most serious damage to others is often for their concern for him and their futile attempts to help him. Sociopaths often surround themselves with “worthy” people in good standing in an effort to self-validate.

23. Contemptuous of those who seek to understand them. Does not perceive that anything is wrong with them. Authoritarian, secretive, paranoid. Conventional appearance. Goal of enslavement of their victim.

24. Exercises control over every aspect of their victim’s life. Has an emotional need to justify their actions. Need their victim’s support (respect, gratitude, and love). Goal…creation of a willing victim.

25. Incapable of a real human attachment to another. Unable to feel true remorse or quilt. Extreme narcissism and grandiosity. These “monsters” are very real and very dangerous to your health, sanity, and finances.

26. Sociopaths do not have the ability to change the way they are. As years pass, the characteristics may soften. The pursuits may be less adventurous; however, their character flaws are still very dangerous.

27. Those involved with a sociopath cannot see what is happening, even when confronted with the lies and manipulations; they find it difficult to leave of stay away. The pattern of abuse and rewards is an addictive cycle.
