State Rep. Jeff Leach, R-Plano, is proposing to give Texans more of both.

Leach has filed the “Texas Gun Ownership Reinforcement Act,” a bill to create a new tax-free holiday where consumers won’t be charged taxes on guns, ammunition or hunting supplies one day out of the year:

Texas Independence Day, March 2.

“Texas must take the lead in the fight against the federal government’s attempts to infringe on our Second Amendment rights,” Leach said, adding that this bill gives “law-abiding citizens, hunters and sportsmen the opportunity to save money on firearm and hunting equipment, benefiting Texas taxpayers and small business owners and spurring economic growth.

“As we fight against the federal government’s overreach, there is no more appropriate day to instate this tax-free holiday than on Texas Independence Day….”

Not only is the Dallas-area per-capita income of $39,548 comfortably above the national average of $37,000, but it’s growing fastest in the top half of wages above $16 an hour.

$16 an hour is $33K.

You probably do need $40K per person to live comfortably in Dallas, a big city, as compared to some other more rural places in Texas. A family would need/ and have, at least $80K who are living there now?

So it would be less fun to live in Dallas on $16 per hour.

Does anyone know if this is true, not the “fun” part, but the $80K question?

If you send all your money home to Mexico, that is quite a bit of cash. Texas should be watching the outflow of cash, especially where $16 is too much for business owners, and they are tempted to pay $10 under the table. Perry needs to crack down now on the under the table economy, even the nannies and lawn services. He needs to figure out a reward for those who comply with all the business costs of being a legal business.

Also, the drawing more people to an urban area starts to cause the kind of expenses that big cities like L.A. and NYC have. It’s the entropy of growth, and the demand for a government solution to city problems. It would be better for Perry to post a sign that says, don’t come here unless you see yourself making $80K, and if you come here to make $33, you better get a room mate, or commute. (Old urban areas find that the illegals pile in any number of people under one roof, pool their resources, sponge off government resources and send their own money home.) Perry’s come one, come all, new gold rush message might ought to be tempered.

LOL. Talk about Murphy’s Law and rising to your level of incompetence, yea, I’ll give him a second look. Making sure the dolt stays there. He would have been great handling the media, the US Senate, debating President Obama…..

Moreover, his record in Texas has absolutely nothing to do with solving our national problems.

Here’s an O/T story for you about local media in western PA: we had the Voter ID issue throughout the state before the election, with the Against factions screaming (as usual) disenfranchisement for all those poor people who wouldn’t/couldn’t get to a license center to get a photo ID. So Gov. Corbett decided that it wouldn’t be mandatory, only voluntary. Never mind that while the issue was being debated, a 90-something little old lady near Philadelphia who claimed not to have a birth certificate of any kind somehow managed to get a photo ID for herself in anticipation.

So, KDKA in Pittsburgh (a CBS affiliate), which has been sliding leftward for some time, had an interview with the former mayor of Pittsburgh, Sophie Masloff. Of course she’s a Dem, and she’s probably about 88 years old now, but there she was on camera carping about how difficult and trying it would be for anyone to have to get a photo ID to vote in the upcoming presidential election and yada, yada, yada. Anyone watching this little performance could recall her terms as mayor during the 80s and no doubt figured that as mayor, she had an ID as a county employee, as did her staff and anyone else working for the county, in addition to a photo driver’s license. But as you say, it’s just the national propaganda machine metastasizing into local markets and making the low-info types say “Hey, I saw it on TV … it must be true.”
