Obama’s first sequester move: Releasing “waves” of illegal immigrants from detention centers

posted at 4:01 pm on February 26, 2013 by Allahpundit

C’mon. What’s his next move, ordering the Border Patrol to stand down because he supposedly can’t afford to pay them? Oh, right. That is his next move.

This makes me more enthusiastic about the sequester, just because now I’m curious to see how derelict he’s willing to be in his duties to in the name of putting political pressure on the GOP. Next up: Suspending TSA checkpoints at America’s airports, maybe? Where else is he going to find two percent savings in three-plus trillion in spending?

In a highly unusual move, federal immigration officials have released hundreds of detainees from immigration detention centers around the country in an effort to save money as automatic budget cuts loom in Washington, officials said…

The agency, Ms. Christensen added, “is continuing to prosecute their cases in immigration court and, when ordered, will seek their removal from the country.”

Officials did not reveal precisely how many detainees were released or where the releases took place, but immigrants’ advocates around the country have been reporting that hundreds of detainees were freed in numerous locations , including Hudson County, N.J.; Polk County, Texas; Broward County, Fla.; and New Orleans; and from centers in Arizona, Alabama, Georgia and New York.

While immigration officials occasionally free detainees on supervised release, this mass release — so many in such a short span of time — appears to be unprecedented in recent memory, immigration advocates said.

Mark Krikorian calls this the “never let a sequester go to waste” strategy, in which O achieves two goals in one fell swoop — turning up the heat on the GOP to cave on cuts, yes, but also tossing the amnesty fans in his base a bone by reducing border enforcement on the very day that he’s meeting with McCain and Graham at the White House to talk immigration reform. Question for liberals: If he’s suddenly all about penny-pinching in base-pleasing ways, how about getting him to cancel the next year of federal marijuana prosecutions for nonviolent offenders instead? After all, the “waves” of illegals released today will all be legal soon enough. If you’re looking to seize an opportunity for a little emergency cost-cutting social engineering, rolling back the drug war is in more dire need of a jumpstart than immigration.

Via Mediaite, here’s Andrew Napolitano musing about the legal consequences for a president who deliberately seeks to make the federal government perform more poorly than it has to.

If you have to release these people from detention, can’t you put them on a bus and release them in CHICAGO or DETROIT?

If they survive, they would flee to south of the border on their own.

I don’t think people here appreciate the potency of the political weapon we hold here. Obama’s entire existence is predicated upon high taxes & spending. If the sky doesn’t fall from spending cuts, people will be more open to the idea of spending reductions vs tax hikes. This is why Obama is doing everything he can to make it seem cataclysmic, which is near impossible because the cuts are so small. Once it goes through, it basically leaves his entire ideology completely exposed.

Heh, he and his GOPe buddies would try it too.

So I wonder if Obumbles is going to shut down all those Immigration “check points” that are 20-50 miles inland from the borders. Having a bunch of border patrol agents miles inland asking all cars driving thru “are you a US citizen?” isn’t really constitutional or going to catch anyone.

Wigglesworth on February 26, 2013 at 4:53 PM

So, back in the day.

Truman orders Gen. McArthur that he can not pass the 38th par..

L.B.J. tells Gen. Westmoreland he can not attack the NVA troops massed for the tet offensive because they where in Laos.

Clinton tell the Air Force Gen.’s to bomb the Christians and take the side of the muslims.

Obama cuts and runs from Iraq and Afganistain and refuses to any thing on Egypt or Syria.

Obama Orders the Justice Dept. and the A.T.F. to use U.S. tax money to hand to Mexican Drug cartel felons so they can buy heavy wepons from U.s. gun stores and allow them to get onto Mexico, knowing the guns would be used to kill Mexican citizens and possible that the guns would re-cross the border and kill Americans (did kill Border Patrol Officer Brian Terry), this with a paid informent of the U.S. DEA at the kill site.

Obama knows as do the Gen.’s and top C.I.A., and State Dept. people that there were guns being run through Lybia to Syria once more paid for by U.S. tax payer money.

Any one not know that he is testing U.S. as well as understanding that so far the U.S.A. has failed to even respond let alone fight back.

He is useing our good nature and trust in Goverment aginst U.S. all.

Only question left, will we fight back?

oh that’s right, Blame the Rs……….

FlaMurph on February 26, 2013 at 5:01 PM

Don’t get mad, Rs. Let it happen. When we react, then they win.

Sarah Palin’s post from today on Facebook:

“D.C.: Cut the Drama. Do Your Job.

Americans are sick and tired of yet another ginned-up crisis. D.C. needs to grow up, get to work, and live within its means. The real economic Armageddon looming before us is our runaway debt, not the sequester, which the President advocated for and signed into law and is now running around denouncing because he never had any genuine intention of reining in his reckless spending.

Remember that this sequestration deal came about because of the long debt ceiling standoff in the summer of 2011. It wasn’t the ideal outcome for anyone, but it did at least include real deficit reduction of about $110 billion per year for 10 years, which is still nowhere near enough to close our massive deficit. Keep in mind that since the sequester passed, the President has already hit American families and small business owners with his tax increases, or “more revenue” as he likes to call it. The American public doesn’t want tax increases; we want government to rein in its overspending.

If we can’t stomach modest cuts that would lower federal spending by a mere 0.3% per year out of a current federal budget of $3.6 trillion, then we might as well signal to the whole world that we have no serious intention of dealing with our debt problem.

If we are going to wet our proverbial pants over 0.3% in annual spending cuts when we’re running up trillion dollar annual deficits, then we’re done. Put a fork in us. We’re finished. We’re going to default eventually and that’s why the feds are stockpiling bullets in case of civil unrest.

If we ARE serious about putting our fiscal house in order, then let’s stop the hysterics, tighten our belts, and take our medicine.”

Like he is going to care? And like the press will care?

This is the same man who voted to keep a doctor from assisting a baby born alive from an abortion.

And how about those high powered assault weapons sold to Mexican drug lords? Thousands of those guns have been lost. So how many people have been murdered by the guns? How many of those guns were held to the heads of children? To the backs of mothers? Used in executions? Robberies? Kidnappings? Murders?

Today we have another “crisis.” Another “scam.” Another “shocking statement or act” by this President or someone in his administration. Another law violated.

With so many new ones every week, it’s just as easy to forget the old ones. I don’t want to forget the old ones.

Right now, down in Mexico or some place in central or S. America, drug cartels are using high powered assault weapons to intimidate, threaten, kidnap and kill. And they were provided by this administration. And we will never know the whole extent of this crime. We will never know the names of all the people who have been affected and murdered by the weapons sold by the Obama administration.

While Michelle dances, while the White House dog eats his meal prepared by the White House chef and while Obama gets tips on his golf game out on the course, someone somewhere in central or south America is being threatened or killed by high powered weapons sold to Mexican drug cartels by this administration.

While Boehner sits on his rear fumbling for a way to compromise one more time, while Chris Christie attacks the NRA as reprehensible, someone somewhere, … a child, a parent, a farm worker, a police man is being threatened or killed by weapons sold to Mexican drug cartels by this administration.

Compared to all of that… what’s the big deal about releasing a few illegals into the country? No one is going to care in the long run. And by the time he gets to the next thing, this will be forgotten as well.

He was the most fiscally reckless President in US history before he was re-elected with the worst recovery since the Depression and earned the first credit downgrade ever.

Your turn.

Veru much a confirmation of what we expected of Hagle and Obama.

Illinois :

The Governor of Illinois is jogging
with his dog along a nature trail.

A coyote jumps out and attacks the Governor’s dog,
then bites the Governor.

1. The Governor starts to intervene, but reflects upon
the movie “Bambi” and then realizes he should stop
because the coyote is only doing what is natural.

2. He calls animal control. Animal Control captures
the coyote and bills the State $200 testing it for
diseases and $500 for relocating it.

3. He calls a veterinarian. The vet collects the dead
dog and bills the State $200 testing it for disease

4. The Governor goes to hospital and spends $3,500
getting checked for diseases from the coyote and on
getting his bite wound bandaged.

5. The running trail gets shut down for 6 months
while Fish & Game conducts a $100,000 survey to
make sure the area is now free of dangerous
animals.

6. The Governor spends $50,000 in state funds
implementing a “coyote awareness program” for
residents of the area.

7. The State Legislature spends $2 million to study
how to better treat rabies and how to permanently
eradicate the disease throughout the world.

8 The Governor’s security agent is fired for not
stopping the attack. The State spends $150,000 to
hire and train a new agent with additional special
training re: the nature of coyotes

9. PETA protests the coyote’s relocation and files a
$5 million suit against the State.

Wisconsin :

The Governor of Wisconsin is jogging with his dog
along a nature trail. A Coyote jumps out and attacks
the dog.

1. The Governor shoots the coyote with his
concealed carry pistol and keeps jogging. The
Governor has spent $0.50 on a .45 ACP hollow point
cartridge.

2. The Crows eat the dead coyote.

And that, my friends, is why Illinois is broke and
Wisconsin is not.

You think you’re exempt from this clusterf*ck?

Unless you’re a government worker, a tenured leftist holded away in some academic redoubt, or you’re on government assistance or don’t live in America — you’re not exempt. And you’ll discover this fact. And even in the former cases, time and consequence will catch up with you.

Go to Amazon and download a free sample if you have a kindle Iron Curtain: The Crushing of Eastern Europe, 1944-1956

I started it last night and just the introduction will scare the crap out you with the parallels of what happened then and what is happening in the US right now.

Thank you for this book recommendation, JPeterman!

I just requested it from my local library. I am 28th on the waiting list in my dark blue liberal neighborhood.

I hope it helps to wake up some of my liberal neighbors!

It’s really getting to the point where I have to censor out most of the remarks I would say on here and not for profanity. All I can say is, I’m ready for a constitutional convention and dissolve the union. I truly am. Let sessy and the rest have the jackbooted soviet state they’ve always wanted. We can salvage the good states – maybe even build a high speed rail for the sole purpose of transporting illegals from the Mexican border to their new USSA.

The people were threatened to speak up then, as now.

Call the Punk what he is. It’s not racist to do so. It is racist to not name his shortcomings and shenanigans.
