Four Republicans voted to approve Hagel’s nomination: Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky, Sen. Thad Cochran of Mississippi, Sen. Mike Johanns of Nebraska and Sen. Richard Shelby of Alabama.

I guess the Paul apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.

Exit question: Was it worth putting up a fuss about Hagel for a few weeks notwithstanding this embarrassing cave by the GOP? Some say no. I’d say yes.

That’s because politics is really just a fun game to watch, right? Build up some political capital while hurting the political cred of the opponents?

That is exactly what is WRONG with politicians and those who make a living delivering the play-by-play. This republic is dying because no one is willing to just take a stand, letting their “No” be “NO”, their “Yes”, “YES” and be done with it.

The left stopped wasting time trying to govern a long time ago. The right has only recently decided to ignore their responsibilities, but has warmed to it quickly. The most obvious sign is saying one thing loudly, but doing the opposite in the end.

Hagel embarrassed himself at those hearings. America saw him for what he is, Obama’s useful idiot.

No one is painting the GOP with Hagel’s “cooties” and there will be no blowback from Hagel’s hapless term at Defense when they gut it.

We regular peeps in flyover country are just so damn sick of everything in DC. We are sick about this false panic over a measly cut in the INCREASE in spending, on top of the fact that they managed to get the “temporary one time” stimulus built into the baseline budget for the next 3 years due to the Senate’s malfeasance in refusing to pass a real budget in all this time.

We see it for what it is, the democrats in the white house and congress holding the American people hostage over their voracious appetite to increase the government’s intrusion into our lives.

And we see the GOP for what it is, a hapless, toothless inept piece of garbage that can’t even get some easy messaging across to articulate why the expansion of government means a contraction in individual liberty.

Disgusting.

I refuse to get my panties in a twist of the inevitability of Hagel in Obama’s cabinet. No matter who they put there, the end result is going to be the same.

The GOP in the Senate beat Hagel up enough that Obama’s attempt to make the GOP culpable about the gutting of the defense department is not going to work.

If you think this all is bad, and supposing our gutless wonders called the GOP in Congress don’t cave this week on sequester, just you wait until the next continuing resolution has to pass at the end of March.

The most interesting no vote here was, of course, Rand Paul’s. That’s one I got badly wrong; I thought for sure he’d try to placate the isolationists in his base by voting yes this time after voting no last week. Nope. He stuck to his guns, even though he had political cover to vote yes from no less than interventionist extraordinaire John McCain

Another reason I love this guy. Sometimes it is not about politics. It is about what is best for your country. Rand Paul passes that test with flying colors.

I support American manufacturers over foreign crap. I’m not into drugs but I would presumably maintain that same standard. If I must choose I’ll take Canada for comedians and Mexico for drugs.
