Hickenlooper: We should let the states regulate fracking, and I’ve got the cocktail to prove it

posted at 8:41 pm on February 14, 2013 by Erika Johnsen

While President Obama is more than happy to impose one-size-fits-all, top-down regulations from the federal level on down when it comes to energy production (and just about everything else for that matter, ugh), state governments are the more efficient stewards of their own interests — fiscal, economic, and environmental. States are more than capable and in fact better equipped to handle their own interior energy industries than the cumbersome federal bureaucracy, as Colorado’s Democratic Gov. John Hickenlooper testified before the Senate earlier this week on the subject of natural gas and hydraulic fracturing.

States — not the federal government — should lead in regulating natural gas production, Gov. John Hickenlooper told a Senate committee Tuesday, angering environmentalists and drawing applause from energy groups who are fighting the Environmental Protection Agency.

Hickenlooper, a Democrat, told the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources that Colorado is a “national model” in how it regulates natural gas extraction. …

“I come back to the notion of appropriate regulation,” Hickenlooper said. “States are the laboratory of democracy, and we are focusing on how we create a rigorous set of regulations.”

And Hickenlooper would know, I suppose, via the Washington Times:

Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper went to unusually great lengths to learn firsthand the strides the oil and gas industry has made to minimize environmental harm from fracking.

The first-term Democrat and former Denver mayor told a Senate committee on Tuesday that he actually drank a glass of fracking fluid produced by oilfield services giant Halliburton.

The fluid is made entirely “of ingredients sourced from the food industry,” the company says, making it safe for Mr. Hickenlooper and others to imbibe.

“You can drink it. We did drink it around the table, almost rituallike, in a funny way,” he told the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources. “It was a demonstration. … they’ve invested millions of dollars in what is a benign fluid in every sense.”

Well… er, overkill, maybe? But the point is, individual states are the most well-suited to determining their own energy, business, and regulatory needs, and the Obama administration could save us all a lot of time, money, and grief if they could simple deign to leave states to their own devices on some fronts instead of bogging us all down with overzealous federal bureaucrats’ high-minded ideas of what everybody else’s energy policies should look like. They don’t seem to like to delegate much, do they? (Looking at you, EPA!)

Permission structure is exactly what we need to know.

To blame the IRS scandal on “low level” employees in Cincy begs the question, why? What would low level, non-political IRS employees have to gain? Nothing. Only those with a political agenda have an interest in these tactics and those folks are much higher up the food chain and are likely political appointees and not career employees.

Not so prescient. Barky has had a new scandal erupting regularly since he first slimed into office. Every single cabinet nomination he made was a scandal (remember the new version of the old joke about Barky and Jesus and that Jesus could build a cabinet?). Then, in a first, Barky went after Rush Limbaugh, a private citizen, from the Oval Office. And it’s been scandal after scandal ever since. The only difference is that the MSM is finding it extra hard to cover up and dismiss them all, now … over four years into the ongoing tsunami of scandals. You can’t pick a week for the past 4 1/2 years and look at that news without finding a new scandal in it. Not one week. And many of them involved new impeachable acts on the part of the Indonesian Dog-Eating Imbecile.

There is nothing new in the “revelation” that every arm of the feral government even partly controlled by the Executive branch has been targeting conservatives. We have all known this. This is not news. The MSM just acts as if it’s news, now.

What our concern trolls fail to understand is that we’ve now had at least the perception that the EPA and IRS target some groups and make it much easier for others “coincidentally” in accordance with the rat-eared coward’s rabid leftist ideology.

So…. if tomorrow it turns out that the Small Business Administration was picking winners and losers or OSHA was deliberately going out to inspect workplace safety at gun shops with massive fines every time they did….. Well it just adds weight to the articles of impeachment. I’m not saying we can get rid of the rat-eared coward but the corruption of his administration is beginning to show.

And it isn’t just about throwing billions in stimulus money at campaign bundlers anymore. Now we find that Americans, going about their everyday lives, are being targeted or rewarded based on the ideology of the left.

The WAR on Conservatives has been uncovered. If our government, being driven by the Progressives / a Communist-tutored recist/communist-based church pastor-mentored ‘socialist’, is targeting, villifying, & punishing Conservatives (and apparently Jews) while spying on & intimidating the media, what’s next? Do we have to worry about Christians being targeted (even more than they have been / are now) the way Egypt & other M.E. nations are doing? Allowing Islamists to lay down prayer mats so they can ‘practice their faith’ while outlawing Americans’ ability to do the same (so it won’t offend Muslims) is already going on. The story was reported about how the military is ‘outlawing’ sharing one’s faith – so as not to offend other religeons & possibly proescuting a soldier/kicking them out for doing so… Can we expect practicing the Jewish &/or Christian faith in public. If we accept what this administration & Progressives have shoved through & are trying to teach us is the new nation’s norm, how much further are we going to allow them to go forward from HERE?

Obama promised to ‘fundamentally change the U.S.’…d@mn if the ignorant, greedy, & the partisan among us aren’t helping him do it, either by supporting or doing nothing.

He was transparently lied about by both the party apparatchiks and the media (oh, he’s sooo smart, sooo intelligent). And, yet, the voters ate it up – twice.

Yeah, I’d call that a scandal of immense proportions.

GWB on May 14, 2013 at 12:30 PM

Well some voters for sure shared your opinion, but most did not.
That’s why he is POTUS.
So your scandal in this case is democracy.

Interestingly, bayam was starting in on that line, too – the “conservatives playing themselves as victims” approach. New talking points?

GWB on May 14, 2013 at 12:37 PM

Report: EPA followed double standard for conservative groups too?

I don’t know about that, either.

It’s funny that the press is just now coming to accept that the Obama White House is an authoritarian regime bent on politicizing every portion of the government. Does anyone remember that story about the douchy hipsters trying to use the NEA to promote Obama’s agenda? What was that, four years ago? The point is this sort of behavior comes naturally to Obama and his cohorts.

EricW on May 14, 2013 at 12:37 PM

Sweet bit of concern-trolling. Is the DOJ/AP story also legit, or can there be only one “real scandal”?

Allahpundit on May 14, 2013 at 12:09 PM

.
Here’s a thought about the trolls it is well PAST time for the Hot Air editors to address:

They are part and parcel of the overall Obama Administration “obfuscation machinery” used to muddy all online discussions by turning them into unreadable muck and name calling contests.

How is it POSSIBLE the staff of this site cannot or will not see this obvious sabotage of their efforts?

PolAgnostic on May 14, 2013 at 12:38 PM

I can’t wait for “reporters” to break the newest scandal … that members of the administration were holding daily meetings with news personnel in order to get the day’s story lines straight (from a White House perspective). Remember George Stephalopogous, Carville, and Axelrod holding their morning briefings … 4 years ago. Nothing big. Just the White House setting the news. Just as when that ditz on Morning Joke got an Axelrod text (while on the air) to hand her more talking points about one of the other 200 scandals that the MSM has had to dig Barky out of.

What America has let happen – to have the greatest nation in history destroyed by a talentless, inept, mathematical illiterate and total imbecile – just so a bunch of cowards didn’t risk being called “raaaacists!!” (even though they were regularly called that, anyway). Pathetic. Absolutely pathetic.

This is how the damned media report to the damned fools.

Schadenfreude on May 14, 2013 at 12:31 PM

It is and it all hinges on how much coverage the LSFM gives any of this, if it isn’t on the alphabets, you can forget it, if locals papers don’t pick this up, you can forget about his numbers sliding…

The average L.i.V do not do any more than read and watch the local news and the alphabets…

Scrumpy on May 14, 2013 at 12:39 PM

You have an actual legit gripe/case with the IRS news.
Maybe not so fast on the shooting wildly in every direction?

verbaluce on May 14, 2013 at 12:07 PM

Try a bit harder, since you’re not always a troll:

1. 20 AP reporters’s phones were hacked by Holders’ goons, ahead of the election.

2. Benghazi was/is still a coverup of huge proportions and no one has been punished…with no sign that anyone ever will.

3. Political groups targeted by the EPA.

4. What else that is not known? Do you see a pattern? Yes, you certainly can think.

To your other comments…yes, it is a travesty that this thug was re-elected by charlatanry. The land deserves more. You should think about this carefully. If the shoe were on the other side you’d go apoplectic. You should fight for liberty and freedom, for all, alas.

One more thing. Obama and his capo, stupid Carney, can say a million times “this is political”. What is not? That is such a stupid statement. Obama and his can NO longer be trusted on anything, even if, miracle of all, they’d tell the truth now.

I’m more interested in the “permission structure” by which federal agencies start singling out the president’s ideological opponents for special scrutiny, whether or not he’s handing down direct orders.

The “permission structure” is a federal bureaucracy hugely disproportionally filled with and run by liberals and left-of-center activist types who are completely dependent on the federal government for their livelihood and who have a vested interest in the bureaucracy’s perpetuation and growth.

That gives them a rationalized “permission structure” to do whatever they need to do to survive, justify their existence, grow, prosper, and attack their enemies (while sucking at the government tit). Like good little socialist bureaucrats they would claim their enemies are the enemies of the people and they are doing it all for the greater good of the people. And so on and so forth.

farsighted on May 14, 2013 at 12:40 PM

It is interesting to see that on lefty boards they are justifying what the EPA and IRS did by arguing that right leaning groups are opposed to government and therefore deserve to by stymied by any means necessary.

The mask has fallen off completely now.

As the Republicans will be too craven to tackle this, it is going to come down to how the left elites really think about all this.

They’ve been moving towards a more authoritarian state for some time, but now they have a stark choice – continue to support Obama and see the functional end of representative government (the trappings will remain) or oppose him and risk the ire of the drones they have created.

I have no idea if it’s a talking point. But it’s been a view of mine for a while. I’m nsure shared by many…as it’s foundational to so much of what one hears from cons these days.
BUT…as I’ve said, on this IRS deal…I believe the victims.
