I don’t know how it’s playing cause I haven’t been too busy to watch it on Spanish TV. I saw it online.

I can’t see the Spanish stations encouraging his candidacy. They are somewhere between ABC/CNN and MSNBC as far as their liberalism.

I don’t know why anyone would think Rubia can’t win.

Rubio is dead to me as a future candidate because he can not win.

And you believe that Rand Paul somehow can?? Two Words – Crazy Daddy.

So I just watched Rubio now (both the English and Spanish versions.)

Excellent. The sip of water was a nice and real moment.

I have to say, listening in Spanish, the Dems should be very afraid of Rubio. The speech (words, themes and delivery) sounded even more powerful in Spanish.

Rubio better watch his back.

I am liking him more and more.

Jindal is still my favorite, though. His SOTU response was uncharacteristically bad. Because Jindal gives a great speech, even unscripted, and he knows the issues.

What Rubio, Jindal and Rand Paul have in common (and why I like each of them) is they are smart and young and true conservative believers.

So they can articulate our ideals and ideas from the heart and they are believable and convincing to others.

Umm.. Like the young white guy from Janesville who got the VP nomination?? I think that being Latino is a huge plus for Rubio, but he is also very, very charismatic and a good speaker.

Maybe, had Ryan been the top name on the ballot, things may have turned out a good bit better.

Yes,being Latino is a plus….but, charismatic leaders have never really done this Republic any good over the centuries. Good speakers are a dime a dozen. Those with access to teleprompters even cheaper to find. Good speakers who can do so on the fly, on live television, sans teleprompter, are a bit more rare, but is that the most important qualification for the top job in the nation?

Sell Rubio to me.

Same as with any other good and qualified candidate.

I am tired of the MSM and the4 Dems choosing our candidates for us. I am tired of gaffes and misspoken sound bites being the standard of judgement of a candidate’s qualifications.

I am tired of empty suits.

I want experienced, intelligent, decisive leadership, if we are to survive as a Republic.

The age of the hucksters, panderers, shake-down artists, con men and such has to end…and damn soon.

Otherwise, what is the point of being American?

As my old East European friends used to say back in the day, a fish rots from the head.

If Marco Rubio is that new, able, committed solid leader…sell him to me. Make that ultimate sales pitch.

We’ve had too many candidates foisted upon us for no other reason that they were not the other guy.

We need to do better.

God knows, we truly need to do better.

So, bear with me when I ask a simple set of questions that really need to be answered (honestly) if Rubio is to be anointed the GOP candidate best suited to stop the madness of the Obama-Progressive juggernaut.

If Rubio were some guy from Bowling Green or outside of Omaha…and not a Cuban-American or any other hyphenated American designee…just some young white guy with a knack for politics…would he be a flag bearer for the GOP today?

Would the MSM and the pundits have embraced him so, or decided to hate him so?

Or would he never have risen beyond local or state politics?

What, other than his Cubanity, does Marco Rubio actually bring to the table that cannot be brought by any other candidate?

I ask these questions not because I am trying to shaft Rubio, but to get some clear-headed thinking started.

Are we pandering to get the Hispanic vote or are we in search of a real honest hard-working Conservative who emulates the Founders and believes unswervingly in the Constitution?

We’ve gone out on limbs before…had a number of rising stars proven to be a lot less than met the eye in recent years…all foisted to the top of the list simply because they were not white.

Racist?

Not at all.

To not ask these questions would be the near ultimate in racism.

Content of character still matters to a lot of us.

Color of skin, not one bit if they are of solid and good character.

Pandering to any ethnicity or race is not what we should be about.

Yeah.. If we want to talk about people who genuinely screwed up their political careers.

This whole water incident actually makes me like Rubio even more. I’ve always been a bit cool to him because he isn’t that deep and can appear overly concerned with his image. (As well as the fact that he seems to spend quite a bit of his time thinking about how he plans to redecorate the Oval Office in 2017.) It was nice to see that he was nervous and that he did something awkward. I guess that whole 2016 thing got real.

Regardless of what you think of Obama he never screwed up like this in the lead-up to his campaign, he had absolute control over his image the entire time, part of the reason why the late-game attempt to paint him as an extremist/radical in 2009 failed so badly.

I agree that Obama was a good performer, especially his 2004 convention speech, and had a perfect look and attitude for his 2008 run but he had a LOT OF negatives. The reason why the attempt to paint him as an extremist/radical failed was because

1. Mcain was telling everyone Obama was not an extremist.

You can use it for a 2000-style “He’s just like us” narrative sure, it doesn’t mean he’s finished in politics, only an idiot would think that. And Jindal is a far more accomplished guy than Rubio. Rubio has been a Senator for a couple of years. Before that, he was in the Florida legislature. Before that, nothing. Sorry, a young, ambitious political animal with no record of achievement, running on rhetoric and identity politics. Sound familiar?

Jindal also doesn’t have any natural political skills. The guy cannot give a speech and is about as fun as watching paint dry. Political skills matter.

Also, the other junior Senator became President.

Rubio has a tendency to blow the big moments, when he steps out of the conservative echo chamber into the wider world. Remember his asinine answer to “how old is the earth”? You can bet your boots the MSM will remember in 2016.

Ummm.. Like his appearances on the Daily Show? Or his Buzzfeed performance last week?

I do think that the “how old is the earth” question did expose Rubio’s major weakness as a politician. He has a tendency to try to be all things to all people. He didn’t want to say “old” because he was afraid that it would have offended Evangelicals in Iowa. Rubio also attends a Catholic church and a Baptist church also for the same reason. He can be overly scripted and really concerned about his image, which is something that he needs to drop.

Rubio needs to simmer in the pot for another decade, before he should even consider running for Prez. He will be a debacle if he runs in 2016.

You guys won’t want to hear it, but Rubio is toast due to the water “gaffe.” The FM morning shows on MIlwaukee radio are all skewering him and it’s becoming the only memorable moment to come out of last night.
