Breaking: Fugitive Chris Dorner “pinned down” by California police

posted at 5:01 pm on February 12, 2013 by Allahpundit

Via Ace, two cops have already been shot but Dorner’s reportedly “pinned down” so the end, hopefully, is near. Details are sketchy right now: The word on cable news is that Dorner broke into someone’s cabin, tied up the couple that owned it, and was then intercepted by police shortly afterward. He may or may not have opened fire at a roadblock. Here’s the live feed from Big Bear. Stand by for updates.

Update: Dorner now holed up in a cabin and surrounded?

Update: More from the LA Times:

The shooting occurred after Dorner burglarized a home, tied up a couple and stole a white pickup truck, sources said. San Bernardino County sheriff’s spokeswoman Jodi Miller confirmed deputies responded to a vehicle theft about 12:20 p.m., and the resident who reported the theft said the suspect matched Dorner’s description.

The U.S. Forest Service confirms there was an exchange of gunfire between officers on foot and the suspect, in the Santa Ana River drainage, north of State Highway 38 and south of Big Bear Valley. At least one officer of the California Department of Fish and Wildlife was involved, said John Miller, San Bernardino National Forest spokesman. That officer is not believed to be injured.

Hundreds of cops had searched for him on the mountain in the last few days. Where was he hiding?

Update: At long last, civilization mercifully comes to an end:

Update: One of the cops shot by Dorner has reportedly died. Meanwhile, here’s what MSNBC is talking about.

B)Dorner is a product of all of the leftist crap that you anti-American cowards have been feeding him – and others like him – for many years. He just went you cowards one better and actually started acting out the fantasies that you leftists have been only dreaming of doing.

C)Dorner belongs to the left. He’s YOURS, lefty.

This is what will happen to those of you with your “watering the tree of liberty” fantasies. Pointing this out not because I’m a fan of the military-industrial-digital-narcotainment drone-police state we live in; merely illustrating how utterly, um, fantastic are the adolescent Red Dawn fantasies that a bunch of AR-15 toting FOX News fans can resist these kinds of tactics.

But, you know, keep on keepin’ on.

lostmotherland on February 12, 2013 at 9:30 PM

Ooooh, you are so hung up on the AR-15, which was responsible for a fraction of the 323 murders from assault weapons in 2011.

Thanks for saving me the time of posting a comment that buttressed what I was talking about. I’ll point you to the part that gets the attention of someone who had no idea how much you hated cops.

I believe in the Rule of Law and the United States Constitution. If Dorner is to die over this, it needs to be according to the Law, not a police execution (something the cops here in California are mind numbingly well known for).

So, there’s that.

As far as fantasies and what happened today, well, I would say this guy wasn’t what he said he was, because his first mistake was killing innocent people. They didn’t come after him, he went after them, but when you have a corrupt society that breeds such apathy toward human life, this is what you get.

I wold think the Janet Sterno comment was fairly self explanatory. The FBI claimed to used non-thermal CS grenades, but the mysterious coincidence of fire following the launching of CS grenades leads many to question whether there were actually thermal CS grenades used.

CS is not actually a gas. It’s a fine crystalline aerosol. The only type I ever encountered were thermal canisters you would throw, and CS pellets we used in the gas chamber for training. We’d put the pellets on top of an empty c-ration can and light them up. You could definitely start a fire with thermal CS. Our gas chambers were always old wooden structures.

I’ll answer, without even going back to read the remark. They deliberately burned the place down, just as police always manage to do when their own get shot. Dirty little secret is tear gas is flammable in sufficient concentration. You pump the structure full of the stuff then introduce an ignition source, typically a smoke generating device, which get quite hot. Shortly you have a raging fire. Waco, Steveson’s Ranch, this event and several others. There is no doubt an unofficial manual for it, it happens so regularly.

For those who have been posting about corruption in the LAPD – I can’t help thinking that any corruption there is at least in part due to the fact that California has become a one-party state. (You know – a fish rots from the head down.) To take it further – the people who are most vocal about have been victimized by it seem to be the most reliable political supporters of said system.

SubmarineDoc on February 12, 2013 at 11:37 PM

You’re welcome. If you haven’t yet and want more, read The Cop Killer Lovers On The Left Send A Big, Wet, Sloppy Bar Rafaeli To Cop Killer. That garbage was written after his manifesto was disseminated.

Absolutely. I made a similar point about Chicago recently. Take a look at the number of convictions for corruption in Chicago, Cook County and the State of Illinois since 1972:

The Culture of Corruption in the Land of Lincoln

One cannot expect the people to be law-abiding when their leaders are not. Furthermore, the government doesn’t even hold the lawbreakers to account. The confessed killer of Hadiya Pendleton was arrested in 2011 on a weapons charge. He pled guilty and was sentenced to 2 years of PROBATION.

But, don’t let that worry you. More gun laws that Obama* and other Dems don’t enforce or prosecute is a good thing, according to Progs.

* 0.1%: Percentage of the 71,000 people, who lied on their background checks in 2009 and were prosecuted by the Obama administration.

Any time I hear anyone use the phrase military-industrial-digital-narcotainment drone-police state or any combination thereof I immediately think they are stupid. Not just uneducated but rife with the stupidity that only comes from a biological disorder.

We got it. I remember the Vet story and their failures are well documented. I’m still trying to figure out why you can’t state your beliefs without insulting people. You’re acting like a Mittwitt.
Cindy Munford on February 12, 2013 at 9:15 PM

You are very selective with who you choose to criticize on here. The commenters you are so friendly with all the time do nothing but insult, but you never utter a word in protest. You only seem to criticize someone when it is clear that they lack the support of most of the other commenters. You never once call out anyone on here when it is unpopular to do so.

Alberta_Patriot is one of my favorite commenters on here. Very intelligent and always respectful. I am glad there is someone like that here from Canada to make up for the outrageously rude and trollish behavior of Dave Rywall.

Don’t know if this was posted yet but the cops appear to have been caught saying, “Burn the f****** down!” over the radio.

Unless this was faked but that should be easy to confirm since it was over a live broadcast.

Late to the party…was playing the drinking game and blacked out about 15 mins in….

Seriously? Who do you think has the weapons, lostFührerland?

And I have contacts in both the local and state police as well as the FBI.
Let’s just say that there are many who are concerned, and while at official functions won’t say much, are more traditional (rather than dependent) American than you could think of being, from what I read in your posts.

Many have made it clear that they swore to uphold the Constitution, not the government.

Read between the lines. Yeah. The government will have more problems with its own “troops”, with the exception of 0bama’s Brown Shirts, than might be thought.

And?

bluegill on February 13, 2013 at 8:37 AM

I have no problems with the police ending this by setting the cabin on fire. Dorner could have surrendered but instead he shot himself. Good riddance.

He doesn’t. LOL.

lostmotherland on February 13, 2013 at 9:05 AM

Evidently the police used thermal CS canisters to burn the cabin down on purpose. How did they know no one else was in the cabin? Have they used this tactic elsewhere? It’s hard to believe this is a sanctioned police tactic.

If only he knew the proper procedure to surrender to police … weapon down, hands up, walk out the front door … some people never learn how to behave when police give them a lawful order.

/they burned him alive like a flaming shish-kabob! He never had a chance!

Paul-Cincy on February 13, 2013 at 9:22 AM

“Evidently the police used thermal CS canisters to burn the cabin down on purpose. How did they know no one else was in the cabin? Have they used this tactic elsewhere?”

Dunno about real life, but it happened in the novel “True Grit” . Marshal Rooster Cogburn threatened that if the bad guys didn’t come out of a cabin he’d have corn oil thrown down the chimney, then shoot anyone who came out of the blazing inferno.

He’d have done it too. The bad guys knew he was serious, so they came out with their hands up.

Call me crazy, but I’ve got no problem with the cops setting the house on fire to drive him out rather than making a frontal assault and losing I don’t know how many more lives to give this guy the death he so obviously wants.

pendell2 on February 13, 2013 at 9:25 AM

As far as Red Dawn fantasies, I would point out that we’ve had a lot of problems in Afghanistan with farmers armed with AK-47s. That’s how it goes when professional soldiers tackle an armed citizenry: The professionals will win every battle and rack up the kill ratios, but the citizenry tend to outlast them in the long run.

Provided the citizenry is willing to take the casualties and stay in the fight until the pros have had enough. That’s what happened at Valley Forge, after all. Howe never lost a major battle to Washington, but Washington still won in the end.

And I pray that NEVER happen in the US. The American Revolution and the Civil War tore this country apart and killed millions of people. Besides which, American soldiers aren’t terminator clones. They’re citizens too, with mothers and fathers and families. I’m hoping that if it ever comes to cases the soldiers would do what Romania’s army did when the Ceausescus fell … refuse to fire on their own.

Don’t they have heat signatures or infra-red technology?

I saw that in an episode of ‘The Simpsons’ and that was back in 1994. Technology must have improved 19 years later.

sentinelrules on February 13, 2013 at 9:54 AM

We do not need any justification for drone strikes on US Citizens if “THE ONE” says we don’t. And collateral damage is not to be discussed. Why bother with the interrogation and trial, we might find that some of our “Friends” are involved. And what prison would we put him in. We do not want to risk any Habeas Corpus complaints.

OOPS! I thought I was on the middle east terrorism thread. /sarc
