Shocker: The White House misses their budget deadline, again

posted at 1:11 pm on February 4, 2013 by Erika Johnsen

The White House is legally required to submit a budget to Congress on the first Monday in February of every year — which evidently means little-to-nothing to the auspicious Obama administration. The White House already warned the House Budget Committee that, yeah, they probably weren’t going to be able to get that done on time… and, lo and behold, they are indeed going to fail to submit a budget by the prescribed deadline, for the fourth time in five years. Paul Ryan is not amused:

“I’m disappointed the President has missed his deadline. But I’m not surprised. In four of the last five years, he’s failed to submit his budget on time. We still don’t know when we’ll receive the president’s request. And for nearly four years, Senate Democrats haven’t passed a budget at all. We deserve better,” Ryan’s statement reads.

“We spend $1 trillion more than we take in each year. In fact, we spend $3 for every $2 we take in. And we can’t keep that up. If we stay on this path, our finances will collapse. The economy will stall. And the most vulnerable will suffer. We need a budget that reflects our priorities—that expands opportunity. The fact is, we cannot achieve those goals unless we budget responsibly.

“Every time the President and Senate Democrats shirk their duty, they delay choices we need to make. We’ve still got time, but it’s dwindling. Every missed deadline is a missed opportunity. We need to get serious about spending now.

And, before you ask, why no — they apparently do not have any immediate plans to amend the situation. Via BuzzFeed:

White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said Monday that he had no updates on when President Barack Obama will release his budget for the next fiscal year.

“I don’t have an update on the President’s budget,” Carney told reporters aboard Air Force One as the president travels to Minneapolis to discuss his gun control proposals when asked when Obama will submit his spending plan to Congress. The deadline for submitting his budget for fiscal year 2014 is Monday, February 4, 2013 under the Budget and Accounting Act of 1921. …

Carney encouraged reporters to “focus on substance over deadlines,” saying Obama has proposed detailed plans for bringing down the nation’s deficits, and that unlike Republicans, what he “hasn’t done is submit a highly partisan budget that has no support among the American public.”

Substance over deadlines? Substance, like watching President Obama campaign lecture “rally public opinion” on gun control in Minnesota this afternoon, or remind us all that he is by no means finished raising taxes and class-warmongering? …No, thanks.

During his Administration, he has been responsible for no less than 12 violations of the U.S. Constitution & numerous laws, to iclude No annual Budget, 3 Felony counts of PERJURY perpetrated by his Attorney General, 1 Felony count of PERJURY perpetrated by his Rep before Congress regarding the Auto Bailout which included 20,000 employees eing stripped of their pension for NOT being part of a Union,…and the list goes on!

Despite the lamestream media refusing to report this as anything serious, however, the GOP doesn’t have the testicular fortitude or the backbone to stand up to Obama/Progressive Liberals!

If he doesn’t release a budget the Republicans can’t bring it up for a vote where all the Dems will vote against it.

I know that’s not what you meant.

Fenris on February 4, 2013 at 1:36 PM

Instead of playing the “I’m shocked this continues to go on” argument, the GOP needs to get on the offensive. Ryan would have done better if he came out and said the President wants to shut down the government. Obama knows the stakes and he knows the media will shield him from blame. The GOP need to remind the American people every day that the government will shut down until the Democrats put together a budget. If they need to create a “countdown clock”, then so be it. They should explain that the Democrats have time to get it done, but it will not be done at the eleventh hour and that Americans will have 96 hours to view the budget, as promised by Obama.

So @pfeiffer44 perhaps a picture of the President producing a budget that gets 5 Democrat Party votes?

Marcus Traianus on February 4, 2013 at 1:49 PM

This is understandable. The Obama is incapable of administering a government of this size. It’s partly because the government is too big, but mostly it’s because he’s unqualified and incompetent even after four years of practice. There’s really no other justification for his administration not being able to provide something as simple in the scheme of running a whole government as preparing a budget to the Congress, even if it isn’t 100% complete.

Are we talking about the same President here? President Obama? It seems to me the last budget Obama submitted was indeed a “highly partisan budget that has no support among the American public.” In fact, the supposed representatives of the American public, even the farthest of the lefty representatives, shot it down in flames with not a single vote for it.

Hmmm… now that I think about it, Jay Carney was actually 100% correct. Obama “hasnt submitted a highly partisan budget”… YET… but that he indeed will submit “a highly partisan budget that has no support amog the American public” soon.

Whats the surprise? The White house notified Paul Ryan on 14 January that they would not meet the deadline. In the words of Hillary Clinton “what dose it matter”. This government has become time jumpers, “yesterday”, “today”, “tomorrow” are all the same day. If they miss a deadline they just back date to be in compliance or ignore it totally. After all they have not past a federal budget in four years. The greatest fear that these “Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension” have is to prioritize any issues. They will do anything to avoid that responsibility. No wonder we are in trouble.

Actually, this is true. He’s repeatedly submitted budgets that cannot muster so much as a a single vote from either Republicans or Democrats in Congress. I guess that’s what makes him non-partisan.
