Video: Stewart grills Gore on sale to oil emirs, too

posted at 2:31 pm on January 31, 2013 by Ed Morrissey

Well, grills might be too strong a word in this case.  Unlike Matt Lauer, who explicitly raised the allegation of hypocrisy — twice — Jon Stewart goes for a softer approach, one that doesn’t even use irony or satirical wit.  Instead, he asks whether Al Gore might have found a more “sustainable” buyer for Current TV, at which point Gore feigns ignorance of the context of the word while promoting a book that argues for sustainability:

“Can mogul Al Gore who has Current TV and sells it to Qatar, which is an oil-based economy, can mogul Al Gore coexist with activist Al Gore?” Stewart asked. “If you couldn’t find for your business a more sustainable choice to sell to—“

Gore jumped in, saying, “I think it is sustainable. What is not sustainable about it?”

“I mean, a non-fossil fuel based buyer,” Stewart replied. … “You had an opportunity to make a statement probably about your principles and some people would feel, and for me as well, I thought it was an odd move,” Stewart said. “Not because of some of the other things, but because it is backed by fossil fuel money.”

“I get it. I get it. I get it,” Gore said. “But it was an easy choice after doing the diligence on the network itself.”

“Can you see how people at home might think – but he’s asking me in my life to make choices about light bulbs and a cost-benefit analysis for the purpose of sustainability when I just want to see my book. That’s the issue,” Stewart said.

Yes, and the $100 million payday didn’t hurt, either. That’s the hypocrisy, along with the notion that the sale will somehow boost climate-change coverage. Al Jazeera bought Current TV for its access to cable and satellite subscribers in the US, in order to promote its own interests. Only in the world of high-level political hypocrisy can anyone argue that Qatar’s interests include the reduction or elimination of fossil fuel use. It would be akin to building a fortune out of pro-life activism, launching a media outlet with the money, and then selling it to Planned Parenthood because of their great track record of handing out condoms.

Not that I want to give anyone any ideas.

If climate change hysteria means we don’t develop our own fossil fuel and continue to pursue non-viable eco energy hen yes. Yes it is in Middle Eastern oil producers to promote climate change hysteria. It’s not like we’re going to stop using the stuff.

I believe the question is, are Qatar’s interest more in line with Gores than Glenn Becks? Are Glenn Becks more in line with the U.S. interests than Qatar’s? Are Al Gores interests more in line with Qatar’s or the U.S.?

Personally, I don’t believe Gore has any values and that the determining factor in the sale was the amount and availability of the cash.

Even by politician standards this guy is a disgrace. Hard to believe his dad came from Tennessee. He’s much more like an East coast or left coast scum.

May Al-Gore (like in Al-Jezeera) esplode, spontaneously, from hypocrisy alone.

Imagine what that would do to the environment and what a relief it w/b for the world of hot air.

Al is a disgrace. However, it’s worth taking a look at his daddy, Al Sr. and his relationship to Armand Hammer, Occidental Petroleum and loads of shady deals.

There’s along history of hypocrisy, greed and chicanery.

Al Jr. is simply the logical heir.

But, yes. He is grotesque.

The Left knows all of this, yet as usual they chose to ignore.

Gore is right. Muslims are environmentally conscious and are the best stewards for the planet. They can take anything modern man has done and turn it back into fallow dirt untainted by civilized hands.

Jon Stewart wouldn’t bring that up, because it makes him look like another Libtard hypocrite.

Jon Stewart Hides Mansions Under Pet’s Names

Jon Stewart, the left-wing star of the low-rated “Daily Show,” might not be richer than Romney today, but the pace he’s currently on means that someday he may very well be.

Of course that means nothing to Stewart as he continues to carry Obama’s water and launch divisive class warfare attacks from the platform of a super PAC known as Comedy Central to attack Mitt Romney’s wealth.

Though Stewart distances himself from the “one-percenters” and bellows over their extravagance, his bank accounts bear all the marks of the “multi, multi, multi, multi millionaires” he mocks. The 49-year-old Stewart, born Jonathan Stuart Leibowitz, makes more than 300 times the median American salary, owns three luxury homes and sometimes doesn’t pay his taxes. …

While $80 million doesn’t yet put Stewart into the same wealth bracket as Romney, he is already on pace to be richer than the former Massachusetts governor when he reaches his age.

At his current earning rate, The Daily Show host’s net worth will be $320 million by the time he turns 65 — Romney’s current age. And that total doesn’t include increases in property value or other assets Stewart might accumulate.

Stewart also owns three opulent mansions and, get this, hides these assets under fake names:

He doesn’t technically own those homes: Using a trick mastered by countless one-percenters, the properties were purchased by private trusts. Stewart’s trusts are named after his pets.

The super-wealthy often make big-ticket purchases through trusts in order to protect their other assets from lawsuits, diminish estate tax liability, and avoid public scrutiny.

You can bet the Mr. ClownFaceFunnyMan is desperate to avoid “public scrutiny.”

Stewart also has problems paying his taxes:

The Empire State issued its first “state tax warrant” for the couple’s failure to pay $476.03, sending the notice to the address of the KLS Professional Advisors Group, the financial firm that manages Stewart’s money.

New York issued a second lien in September 2008, this time a $3,225.63 demand to Stewart’s wife Tracey — erroneously spelled “Tracy” but sent to the address of the Stewarts’ trusts.

$100 million can buy a lot of carbon credits. Why, he could probably save the planet from AGW all by himself.

And I bet that is just what he does with all that money because he is just that kinda planet-saving guy. After-all, if it weren’t for him and his merry band of settled scientists, there wouldn’t BE any AGW.

Wyznowski on January 31, 2013 at 3:48 PM

Al is always ready to explain why he needs more of your money and more control over your life. Just don’t expect him to give anything in return. He doesn’t see anything wrong with living in a mansion on the sea shore with an electric bill the size of the California state budget, while demanding we fill our homes with mercury based light bulbs in order to save the planet 200 years from now. Its always “me, me, me” with Al.

GarandFan on January 31, 2013 at 4:29 PM

Well, as the latest Matt Damon bomb showed, via its overseas financing, Al Gore is against the U.S. being energy independent via increased use of hydro-fracking techniques, and the Arab oil states are against the U.S. being energy independent via use of hydro-fracking techniques. So I suppose in that context, Gore selling Current to Al Jazeera does make sense.

Well, extremist Muslims do tend towards a backward march of technology. So maybe if the Taliban ruled the world, carbon emissions would be lower.

For $100M, Al Gore would even let someone call him a “Republican”. Because, we’ve already established what he is, now we’re just haggling over price.

The jihadi leaders often live quite comfortably, with lots of modern amnenties. Palaces, furnishings, premium laptops, HDTV. Even Ayman al-Zawahiri was taped sporting fancy New Balance kicks while visiting terrorist camps.
