The Ed Morrissey Show: Senator Marco Rubio, Kevin McCullough; Update: Rubio says “I will not be part of a bill” that doesn’t guarantee enforcement

posted at 2:36 pm on January 28, 2013 by Ed Morrissey

Today, on the Ed Morrissey Show (4 pm ET), we start the show off with Senator Marco Rubio, who will discuss the new bipartisan compromise on immigration reform. Will we get border security and visa reform before normalization, and how will Rubio guarantee that the legislative language matches the pledge? Kevin McCullough joins us afterward to discuss the intersection of faith and politics. Kevin and I will talk about immigration, and also the March for Life last week and the anniversary of Roe v Wade.

Update: Watch the first 20 mins of the show. Rubio is adamant that he will not support a bill that doesn’t guarantee that border and visa enforcement takes place before normalization.

We’ll also talk about The Binge Thinker, Kevin and Stephen’s exploding success in independent talk radio, as well as Kevin’s new book, No He Can’t: How Barack Obama Is Dismantling Hope and Change, being released this week! Don’t forget about Kevin’s previous book, The Kind of Man Every Man Should Be: Taking a Stand for True Masculinity, either.

The Ed Morrissey Show and its dynamic chatroom can be seen on the permanent TEMS page. Be sure to join us, and don’t forget to keep up with the debate on my Facebook page, too!

Want to get away from it all? Why not join Duane “Generalissimo” Patterson and me on a seven-day cruise this summer to Alaska? Starting July 27th, we’ll take the inside passage on Holland America’s MS Zuiderdam:

Come cruise the Alaskan Inside Passage with Generalissimo Duane and Blogger Ed. There is no better place to travel, no better way to travel and no better folks to travel with. Alaska, the last frontier, see it as only Holland America can show it. Come with us as we cruise along miles of pristine coastlines, saddle right up to gigantic blue glaciers and wonder at the incredibly awesome waterfalls, fjords, and free flowing rivers. You will experience magnificent vistas as we sail through the straits of the Inland Passage encountering whales, porpoises, otters, eagles and all kinds of fabulous wildlife. Best of all you will do this while living in the luxury and comfort of the ms Zuiderdam, a premier Holland America ship.

Our Seven day itinerary includes stops along the way where you will have the opportunity to fly fish, pan for gold, partake in Native Alaskan culture, or just take a hike in some of the last virgin lands left in America.

Plus, Duane and I will do our TEMS show live on the ship, discussing politics and culture while traveling in the lap of luxury. Climb aboard!

Question?

Was Rubio one of the Republican members of the Senate and House who have been meeting in secret for 3 or 4 years. Did he too like Speaker Boehner sign on to secret meetings and make unConstitutional secret meetings to pass leg.?

Are such meetings a clear act of treason to the voters of the U.S.A.

No hearings, no disscussion in public, no town hall meetings.

“We had secret meetings” and its done?

APACHEWHOKNOWS on January 28, 2013 at 2:53 PM

Watching these RINO sacks of shit stand there with Schumer and Durbin a few minutes ago and peddle all the lies of Amnesty was absolutely disgusting.
Rubio needs to get off this hobby horse, if he thinks to have a broader political future. Kissing hispanic butt is NOT the path to re-election GOP.

Ed,
Please ask Senator Rubio if these 11 million potential new citizens will contribute to our society, or will they will be a drain on the states by looking for welfare assistance.

Ask him why we should create millions of new dual citizens. All of these new future Democrats that we’re supposed to feel sorry for, abandon the rule of law for, upset the demographic balance for, are already citizens of somewhere else, right?

Or just simply ask him: “What do you think of the concept of dual citizenship?”. Thanks.

White House press secretary Jay Carney on Monday welcomed an immigration deal reached by a bipartisan group of senators and gave credit to President Obama for pressing the issue.

I suppose the White House will also take credit for helping Senator Bob
Menendez procure sex with underaged Dominican prostitutes.

J_Crater on January 28, 2013 at 3:21 PM

Bounce this off Rubio as a concern (any or all parts of it):

1) The first requirement is ‘better border security’; problem is, the requirement is for more ‘resources’ (tax money- actually deficit spending), NOT for RESULTS. More spending does not equal results, as our education system has proven for decades. Heck, they could spend the ‘resources’ on more signs warning U.S. citizens to stay away from the area.
2) Legalized status for illegal workers here will translate into a massive loss of their jobs, dumping many into the entitlement system. Because one of the primary requirements of the employment is that they ARE ILLEGAL, and therefore devoid of the expense of workman’s comp, insurance, withholding taxes, safety regulations and hundred of other rules that massively drive up the cost of an employee. Your lawn service Luis will come to you and tell you the cost of doing your lawn will have to go up to $40, instead of $25. When he loses enough clients, Luis becomes our newest welfare recipient, a net LOSS to the taxpayers.
3) NEW illegal immigrants will flood across the border to take these lost jobs, not impeded in the least by new ‘resources’ on the border. The new guy Juan will come to your door and offer to do the yard for $25 as before.

The result: more deficit spending, more welfare cases, and another wave of illegal immigrants, with that situations every bit as bad as before.

BTW: Obamacare’s massive health insurance costs and fines will encourage even MORE use of illegal immigrant labor to avoid those costs- not those that are legalized. NEW illegal immigrants.

Please ask Rubio if he remembers this quote this quote from him (and others like it prior to his election in the Senate) as reported by Tampa Bay Times?

“You can’t round up 11 million people because we don’t live in a police state,” Rubio told a crowd in North Florida in 2009. “But you can’t grant amnesty either because if you do, you will destroy any hope of having a legal immigration system that works. You will send a message that all you have to do is come into this country, stay here long enough and we will let you stay.”

Will he stand by the platform and issues that got him elected to office?

sauldalinsky on January 28, 2013 at 3:35 PM

J_Crater,

Correction:

“White House press secretary Jay Carnery on Monday welcomed an immigration deal reached in secret outside of the unconstitutional meetings by Republicans and Democrats and Pres. Obama over the last 3 years and gave President Obama for his knowledge of how to operate outside the Constution”.

Hearings, input from the U.S. Citizens, the rule of law and the Constitution be dammed.

You didn’t read the headlines this morning. Jeb is very upset about the whole Rubio clearly wanting to be President thing because it affects Jeb Bush’s 2016 vanity Presidential run. Yes, Jeb certainly used Rubio to make sure that Crist lost the 2010 Senate race, but Rubio’s certainly taken on a life of his own now. This from people who have not enforced the wide open borders now for the whole time from 1986 to this very hour.

This from people who put Border Patrol Officers Ramos and Compean in jail for doing the dam duty.

This from people who know about the ID theft, the SS fraud, the use of U.S. Goverment food stamps, unemployment ect via fraud and lies.

This from people who have secret meetings for the last 3 years.

Even if we take Rubio at his word, a “guarantee” of anything from the federal government is meaningless. He is insulting us by asking us to believe anything different.

When the government starts performing their Constitutionally mandated functions effectively for 20 years running, THEN that track record might instill confidence. As it is, we have nothing but BS promises.

This amnesty will encourage millions more to come in. We are OVER.

If cheap labor is a great thing, lets get boatloads of Africans and Asians over here pronto. They will undercut the Hispanics. America will be wonderful.

There’s just a lot of money for people to be Republican Party water carriers the way our current conservative media is set up. Politicians and the right-of-center whisper conservative nothings to get votes during election season, then throw their principles out the window, and no one will hold them accountable. It’s not looking good.

Here’s Rush today:

Anyway, one of Marco Rubio’s points, folks, essentially is that Obama’s already given us de facto amnesty anyway. He did it with the children of illegal immigrants via the executive order back last year. It was prior to the election. I mean, thanks to Obama you have amnesty unless you get convicted of a major felony. So I don’t know that there’s any stopping this. It’s up to me and Fox News, and I don’t think Fox News is that invested in this. I don’t think there’s any Republican opposition to this of any majority consequence or size. We’ll have to wait and see and find out.

The GOP ought to be impeaching and trying Barky for his un-Constitutional, treasonous dictatorial actions on illegals before the election but instead the GOP is praising the Indonesian Dog-Eater and trying to jump in the treason barrel with the America-hater.

They should all go straight to hell.

Update: Rubio says “I will not be part of a bill” that doesn’t guarantee enforcement

How old is Marco Rubio? Because he’s talking like an ignorant child.

Amnesty is an event. Once the event occurs, enforcement, which is a continuous process, doesn’t need to occur any more. To fulfill his promise, he needs enforcement to continue and that requires the commitment of other people, not him, to act in good faith to keep that promise.

Look at history, Marco! Look at the people in Congress around you! Considering your actual age, Marco, you might just as well say “In the future I want to be regarded as a very stupid man and forever be suspected as dishonest and untrustworthy.

So Ed, will you be moving this thread over to the left column soon? Lol! ; ) Oh……wait……you sly dog you.

Bmore on January 28, 2013 at 6:39 PM

If Rubio can’t even say illegal alien, well, what does he call terrorists? Undocumented Armed Forces?
I hope Florida voters tear him a new one.
He’s dead to me.

RovesChins on January 28, 2013 at 6:29 PM

Rubio was big on the Arab Spring and probably still is. He, along with his new dad McCain, pushed at Obama to get even more involved in Libya, so Benghazi is blood on his hands too.

Rubio says “I will not be part of a bill” that doesn’t guarantee enforcement

Here’s an idea, how about enforcing the laws already on the books? That wouldn’t get you any attention, now would it.

Ed, not sure who you gave you the normalization talking point, but if it started in this Nov. 8 Charles Krauthammer column, he says you should use the word amnesty:

For the party in general, however, the problem is hardly structural. It requires but a single policy change: Border fence plus amnesty. Yes, amnesty. Use the word. Shock and awe — full legal normalization (just short of citizenship) in return for full border enforcement.

sauldalinsky on January 28, 2013 at 6:45 PM

Rubio, like McCain, seems absolutely incapable of learning anything. Be it about Muslims, who will never be for liberty, or illegal Mexicans, who if made legal will overwhelmingly vote democrat to the point of obliterating what’s left of the Republican party..

Yeah it’s all the GOP’s fault, explain why The Won didn’t get it done when his party was the whole shebang and it was an explicit campaign promise. Neither side wants it.

Cindy Munford on January 28, 2013 at 5:33 PM

Cindy..it’s the fault of both parties. The Dems have done a better job spewing lies to the Hispanic population, our party has said nothing.

So, what you’re saying is McCain is Rubio’s new Boy Scout Leader?
I have to agree with the mantra, the GOP will betray you.

RovesChins on January 28, 2013 at 6:49 PM

[JPeterman on January 28, 2013 at 6:41 PM]

Correctomundo. He’s betting on this for a 2016 run. Too bad it won’t help him one bit with Hispanics and the Dems will do everything to scotch his reputation by dooming the implementation of this legislation to fail from the get go.

I thought Rubio was an intelligent man, but now I can’t even think of him as an intelligent politician, and that really sucks.

When I look at Rubio, I see John McCain looking back at me and can almost hear, “My friends”.

VorDaj on January 28, 2013 at 6:53 PM

Sorry, but when I see a “gang of #” form in the Senate, and you are a member of it ,you will never get my support.Rubio-you have allied with McCain and Lindsey Graham-you are dead to me.

redware on January 28, 2013 at 6:54 PM

Guarantee enforcement???

We have for another four years a President who refuses to enforce current law, deporting only convicted felons. And what impetus would Obama have to enforce anything? He’s the best pal of Mexicans here illegally, he wants as many on the dole here as possible.

Any amnesty bill would have to exclude them from free health care, food, housing etc. the first 10 years they’re here. The Free S*** Army is big enough already.

waelse1 on January 28, 2013 at 6:54 PM

full legal normalization (just short of citizenship) in return for full border enforcement.

That’s not “amnesty”. That’s “aiding and abetting“.
