President worried that media just isn’t liberal enough

posted at 11:01 am on January 27, 2013 by Jazz Shaw

Perhaps the second term of the Obama presidency will wind up being an era of bipartisan unity after all. One hopeful sign comes with a recent interview done by The New Republic with the President, in which he identifies an area where the POTUS and his Republican opponents clearly seem to agree. The media is just too darned biased.

“One of the biggest factors is going to be how the media shapes debates,” he tells editor Frank Foer and owner and publisher Chris Hughes. “If a Republican member of Congress is not punished on Fox News or by Rush Limbaugh for working with a Democrat on a bill of common interest, then you’ll see more of them doing it.”

But it’s not just Fox or Rush who are to blame. Nearly as culpable are those who ostensibly provide both sides of the debate, because… well, you know:

The president also faulted nonpartisan media outlets for their adherence to “he said, she said” journalism, which places equal blame on Democrats and Republicans when, according to the president, Republicans should bear more blame.

“[T]hat’s one of the biggest problems we’ve got in how folks report about Washington right now, because I think journalists rightly value the appearance of impartiality and objectivity,” Obama told Foer and Hughes. “And so the default position for reporting is to say, ‘A plague on both their houses.’ On almost every issue, it’s, ‘Well, Democrats and Republicans can’t agree’—as opposed to looking at why is it that they can’t agree. Who exactly is preventing us from agreeing?”

See? That’s the problem with the media! You can’t just go around reporting on the views of both parties, or even blaming one party more than the other. In order for media coverage of politics and governments to truly be fair, they need to point out that Barack Obama is always right, the Republicans are always wrong, and the Democrats would be getting so much more done if the GOP would only stop trying to block their agenda. Is that so much to ask?

Look, the national media has a lot of problems, and there’s no doubt about it. And the problems are not found exclusively at MSNBC or Fox. Print media has essentially died, no longer commanding the resources to do the kind of reporting – particularly on local stories – which they once took charge of. Television news seems all too often to have become jealous of the success of the Real Housewives franchise and begun emulating them wherever possible. But if the President wants to call them out for bias, he’s going to have to do a bit more credible job than that.

For full disclosure, it should be noted that the interview above was conducted, in part, by Chris Hughes, who is listed as “an Obama donor who worked on the 2008 campaign,” and who bought The New Republic last year and now runs it. So… balance.

The only thing I can think of is that conservatives adopt the very same tactics, we need to quit playing ‘nice’ cuz we have christian values.

Sometimes one has to get down and dirty to win…

Scrumpy on January 27, 2013 at 12:12 PM

Sorry, on this I happen to disagree. We cannot adopt their tactics without becoming that which we despise.

On the other hand it is absolutely imperative that we face reality and identify exactly why the Marxists keep defeating us. If we do not admit that their is a problem we can never address that problem. If we do not correctly identify what that problem is, then nothing we do will be effective in correcting it.

The problem we face is not the tactics that the Marxists are using, it is identifying exactly who it is that we are fighting. It is not in admitting that we are fighting for our nations very life. It is in admitting who we are fighting for our nations survival.

The enemy is Marxism, they are Marxists. They have quietly, slowly and stealthily infiltrated the core foundational institutions that America rests upon. They began their infiltration back in the early 20th century by taking over the administrative positions of America’s Ivy League Colleges.

From there they infiltrated the Media, the legal system, politics and public education. That is why the vast majority of the Media, Academia, the Jurisprudence System and our Politicians are all Marxist Progressive Liberals.

Once you control the educational systems and the Media you have the ability to engage in unopposed propaganda and indoctrination. That is exactly what the Marxists have been doing for the last 100 years. Slowly bit by bit indoctrinating American’s while they are children and unaware into believing Marxist ideology is in fact the ideology of America’s Founding Father’s.

They have done it a little bit at a time in every television show you watch, in every movie you see, in every classroom in every school and in every text book. In every newspaper and every magazine even in the commercials you watch between Television shows.

How successful have they been, let me show you.

Senator Joesph McCarthy… Since the release of the Verona paper’s we have had incontrovertible evidence that Senator McCarthy was 100 percent correct in his assertions. Yet, the Marxist assault on his character was and remains to this day so successful that the majority of Conservatives still cannot accept that he was the good guy.

Governor Sarah Palin is today’s Senator Joesph McCarthy. Governor Palin is all the proof anyone needs to see just how powerful the Fifth Column Treasonous Media’s Propaganda and indoctrination machine remains. Just as with Senator McCarthy Governor Palin is hated and despised by by conservatives who have been brainwashed by the Fifth Column Treasonous Media, Conservatives who become profoundly offended at the suggestion that perhaps they have been brainwashed or indoctrinated.

Until we can admit what has and is still happening, no amount of adopting their tactics will save us, it will only accomplish exactly what they intend, which is, to convert us into them.

What a frackin’ asshat.

Heck, he doesn’t even know what the true meaning of the word “compromise” is…just his own Liberal (give me what I want or I’ll call you names) version.

Tell ya what, Obama. Let’s Executive Order that the National Firearms Act is no longer in force and that good and decent citizens can own “assault rifles” in their real sense…full auto.

Let’s start with saying “OK, everyone who wants one and isn’t a convicted felon can buy one.”

We need to bid UP every time he tries this B.S. (ex: $100? how about $70? We retort: OK, $120.) Make it keep being costly to argue.

But hell, the press media has no interest in that. But then, they’ve been co-opted already.

Yeah, I’m perturbed. Greatly. I’m tired of these tactics and I’m tired of the GOP giving into them.

I’m going to the range. I’ve targets and ammo. I need to relax, one round at a time.

The president also faulted nonpartisan media outlets for their adherence to “he said, she said” journalism, which places equal blame on Democrats and Republicans when, according to the president, Republicans should bear more blame.

This is pretty amazing. Just who are these “nonpartisan” outlets of which Dear Leader speaks? 95% of mainstream media already marches in lockstep with Big Government, and do nothing but push the left’s agenda, from “gun control” to Benghazi. It’s truly a dangerous situation when the media abandons its responsibility to hold those in power accountable. Yet, our demagogue of a president isn’t satisfied and thinks Republicans should be blamed MORE. These are scary times.

hillsoftx on January 27, 2013 at 12:53 PM

Close, but no cigar.

January 2nd, 2007 was the date Republicans last had majority control of Congress.

January 3rd, 2007 was the date the new Congress was sworn in and Democrats had majority control of Congress.

January 4th, 2007 was the date Nancy Pelosi promised from the Speaker’s rostrum:

After years of historic deficits, this 110th Congress will commit itself to a higher standard: pay-as-you-go, no new deficit spending. Our new America will provide unlimited opportunity for future generations, not burden them with mountains of debt.

- New Speaker Nancy Pelosi, 01/04/2007

ITguy on January 27, 2013 at 5:24 PM

And oh, by the way, on that day that Nancy Pelosi promised that she and the Democrat-controlled 110th Congress would commit itself to the higher standard of “no new deficit spending”, to “provide unlimited opportunity for future generations, not burden them with mountains of debt”:

1) The total National Debt on that day (Jan 4, 2007) was $8,670,596,242,973.04 ($8.67 Trillion). Now, after 6 years of Democrat majorities, the total National Debt is $16,432,567,939,377.32 ($16.43 Trillion). Democrats who promised “no new deficit spending” have darn near DOUBLED the total national debt in just six years.

2) The FY deficit that Pelosi inherited (FY 2007) was less than $161 Billion. She roughly tripled that in her first FY budget (FY 2008), and then roughly tripled it again in her second FY budget (FY 2009).

A fringe benefit of the left’s ambitions of reducing the military to marching band status will severely limit their ability to keep the masses under their thumb should some decide to leave the union.

I propose that we let him proceed with this plan. So long as we have enough nukes to deter opportunistic communist or jihadist countries, I’ll roll the dice that they wouldn’t have the temerity to ever drop one in their own back yard over a divorce.

Liberals are irked by the fact that the media still give a nod to impartiality by acknowledging another argument exists. They want their arguments treated like fact.

A prime example would be the media doing a segment on climate change then featuring a quick sound bite of a republican saying climate change doesnt exist. To liberals, thats akin to the media doing the story on the holocaust then featuring a clip of an imam saying the holocaust never happened.

They want their liberal views seen as fact, not as an opinion that allows for alternative viewpoint.

Timin203 on January 27, 2013 at 11:20 AM

Yep. I would add that many liberals believe with all their hearts that their views ARE facts. But I doubt they know the definition of the word “fact.”

President worried that media just isn’t liberal enough sniffing too much glue

Fixed.

What makes the place so excellent is the many Conservatives who abide here.

Liam on January 27, 2013 at 12:37 PM

I don’t doubt that conservatism is by far the better of two political philosophies, but I do wonder about the veracity of your statement. Much, but not all of this site seems to be dedicated to sound bite politics where real intellectual argument is absent.

Frankly, I doubt that many could actually list conservative principles let alone practice them.

DevilsPrinciple on January 28, 2013 at 1:05 AM

Why don’t we just let Obama’s brats run the media for dada?

Then again dada would start whining about their reportage at some point.

What a fool we have for president!!

Veracity is just so … Veracious.

True indeed!

Just plain true!

Sherman1864 on January 28, 2013 at 5:56 AM

What a laughable premise. It is typical of the far left, and Stalinist of old, to make such rash statements. It pivots their soldiers in the field, and may even turn the mush heads following him into actually believing that the media is caught up in this paradime of impartiality. Not to leave it one pronged, the Georgetown professor saying we should give up on the constitution is (yes a constitutional professor) laid out for the young fertile minds to uptake as well. Destroy the last vestiages of a viable, free media, remove the rock of the constitution that protects us from tyrants and you will get a 3rd term “Mr. President”.

IOW, Comrade Obama thinks that if the media doesn’t support him and his policies enough, if it doesn’t do the analysis he does, if it doesn’t unquestioningly criticize his political opponents the way he does, it is part of the problem.

If the media doesn’t dispense all of his propaganda as he sees fit and if it doesn’t present all of his criticism of his political opposition exactly as he sees fit and as often as he deems necessary, the media is part of the problem and it is aiding and abetting his enemies.

Paranoid Chicago Way politicians require total loyalty and unequivocal support from everyone. So do authoritarian totalitarian dictators.

Comrade Chairman Obama thinks that if US media was more like Soviet era Pravda things would be better. Comrades Lenin and Stalin and Mao would all agree with him.

Imagine a Republican President talking like this about the media. Imagine the reaction in the media.

In Dear Leader’s delusional doublespeak PC world the media is too supportive of his political opposition.

How many fingers am I holding up, Winston?
