Report: Palin parts ways with Fox News

posted at 6:51 pm on January 25, 2013 by Allahpundit

Her choice, not theirs, according to a source who spoke to RCP.

After a three-year run as a paid contributor to the nation’s highest-rated cable news channel, Sarah Palin and FOX News have cut ties, according to a source close to the former Alaska governor.

“It’s my understanding that Gov. Palin was offered a contract by FOX, and she decided not to renew the arrangement,” the source close to Palin told RCP. “She remains focused on broadening her message of common-sense conservatism across the country and will be expanding her voice in the national discussion.”

The source declined to say whether Palin would pursue a television contract with another news network, such as CNN.

Not surprising given what happened last year at the convention, although the Times claims she and Fox were negotiating a new contract as recently as last week. Maybe she has another offer on the table that’s sweeter than theirs?

My first thought when I read the RCP piece was that Mark Begich is up for reelection next year and is already preparing for a strong conservative challenge, but NRO’s Robert Costa tweets some skepticism:

I thought challenging Begich, a weak blue incumbent in a very red state, was her best bet back to political office, but maybe she’s transitioned to Arizona now. (Costa hears that she’s still occasionally in touch with Joe Miller, who appears to be planning to challenge Begich himself.) If not politics, then what? Hard to believe she’d trade Fox for CNN. Maybe … Glenn Beck’s network, The Blaze? It had 300,000 online subscribers as of last summer and must have many more now, especially since Dish Network started airing it in September. And Beck’s aggressively trying to promote it, from making a bid on Current TV to gain a platform on basic cable to opening foreign bureaus in hopes of becoming a sort of libertarian alternative to Fox. She’d instantly raise the network’s profile and bring in new viewers. And there’s plenty of room on the programming schedule for her: The channel currently airs from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. ET with a two-hour block free from 2-4 so they could give her her own show if that’s what she has in mind. If I had to bet, I’d bet that’s where she goes.

Rush Limbaugh:

I know what you mean, the liberals, it is their ideology that they are being loyal to. Liberalism must never suffer slings and arrows. Liberalism cannot be seen as the reason for anything going wrong. Liberalism can’t be seen as a failure. Dan Rather, as a liberal, cannot be seen as forging documents and running a phony story. That cannot be allowed to taint liberalism. They are protecting liberalism. It is the ideology. It is the road map. It’s how they want to get to this place you describe, which is total power.

On the Republican side, it’s not just truth. Sarah Palin wasn’t wrong about anything. She didn’t lie about anything. Sarah Palin embarrassed some people. So they had to get rid of her. The point is, the Republicans will not circle the wagons and defend very many. Conservatives will not circle the wagons and defend. Now, I defended Clarence Thomas not even knowing who he was ’cause I knew what happened. I knew the libs were lying about him because I know the libs.

There are some conservatives today who when, Clarence Thomas was accused today about Anita Hill, they would throw him overboard. Not because she was maybe lying or telling the truth, but because he would be tainted. They would throw him overboard, and they wouldn’t even bother to defend him ’cause he’s making them look bad, by supporting him. It’s a far different thing. The number of conservatives when they pop up and defend each other, doesn’t happen. We’re quick to throw everybody because we don’t want the media saying bad things about the rest of us. It’s really a big difference. The left will circle the wagons and protect their reprobates and they promote them. They promote their failures. It’s a huge, huge difference. But I know what you’re trying to say and your instincts are right on the money with it.

This statement is sending the leftwing bloggers, journolists (and I’m certain a few Romney supporters) into foaming mouth attack mode. I’d link to them but I do not want to give them any traffic.

Ramesh Ponnuru:

Palin has decided she wants to be grouped with the Sean Hannitys and Ann Coulters of the world, not with the John Kasichs and Marco Rubios, and I am not going to second-guess her about the best use of her talents. The dilemma she now faces is that interest in her as a media figure has been dependent on the possibility that she has a political future. Her endorsements have been pretty savvy as a matter of picking primary winners, but I suspect that their effectiveness has peaked.

Margaret Carlson:

Oh, and regarding Sarah Palin: My surprise at her re-emergence has faded to boredom, which is how most people feel, according to polls. She has gone from It girl to an ex-Fox reality star. Fox doesn’t fire people who can still get ratings.
… I realized that CPAC attendees are celebrity-prone in 2011, when they went wild over Donald Trump, creating a monster Mitt Romney had to bring inside his tent in 2012.

What do you all here think of this analysis of Palin situation now that the former Alaska governor’s relevance has diminished?

bluegill on February 24, 2013 at 5:02 AM

if Sarah is so irrelevant then why does obama send his paid trolls down to our quiet abode? Could it be that Sarah got more votes than mitt? yep, the way i figured it mccain siphoned off a few million votes, so i put that into the equation.

Could it be that now that the neverending iron dog is over, Sarah can get back down to business?

Can the Romney Campaign Overcome Mitt Romney?
By Margaret Carlson Sep 18, 2012 2:19 PM ET
Because Mitt Romney’s campaign advisers have been wrong about so many things, I wrote this morning, they are probably also wrong in their belief that his campaign is falling apart — a belief many of them conveyed (anonymously of course) to Politico.
I may have underestimated the depth of the problem. It’s not Romney’s dysfunctional staff we need to worry about. It’s Romney.
In an exchange at a fundraiser last spring, Romney told a bunch of wealthy donors in Boca Raton, Fla. — the host famously throws lavish X-rated parties — that 47 percent of the country will vote for Obama “no matter what” because they are “dependent on government” and “believe that they are victims.”
What Romney misses is that the workers building his car elevator are likely in that 47 percent. So are many veterans — those unemployed, those working and those wounded. So are millions of senior citizens. So is my brother, who gets Social Security’s Supplemental Security Income because of a disability.
What Romney’s words reveal is a mind closed to the lives of most Americans. He discounts life’s vicissitudes: who you are born to and where, the doors that swing open, the presumption you will ascend to jobs in which your pay doesn’t get docked when you get a flat tire.

OUCH!!!!

Dear SarahPAC Supporter,

Together, we made history this November! Our victory in the U.S. Senate race in Texas was a remarkable testament to the conservative grassroots.

We started out as underdogs in a long, competitive primary. But despite the odds being stacked against us, Governor Palin and SarahPAC showed daring leadership by endorsing my campaign.

The Governor’s vision and the support of patriots like you helped transform my long-shot candidacy into victory on election night.

The Washington Post called our success the “biggest upset of 2012.“

Thank you. While federal law prohibited any coordination between SarahPAC and my campaign, none of this success would have been possible without the outpouring of financial support, hard work, and word of mouth from conservative fighters like you. The Governor’s support and your constant encouragement played a critical part in our triumph.

As you know, I am not the first or the only candidate to benefit from Governor Palin and SarahPAC’s courageous support for conservatism. Senators Deb Fischer, Jeff Flake, Tim Scott, Marco Rubio, Kelly Ayotte, Rand Paul, and other common-sense conservatives are proof that Americans are ready to return to our nation’s founding principles.

I look forward to working alongside these and other strong conservatives to stand up to the big government bureaucracy that is entrenched in Washington, DC. Every American deserves the opportunity to build a better life for our children and grandchildren, and together we will fight for the conservative ideals of liberty and opportunity that made this country the greatest on Earth.

I am humbled and grateful for the continuing support of patriots like you.

Sincerely,

Senator Ted Cruz

Blizzard of Oz. how apropos. check out Sarah’s latest post

D.C.: Cut the Drama. Do Your Job.

Americans are sick and tired of yet another ginned-up crisis. D.C. needs to grow up, get to work, and live within its means. The real economic Armageddon looming before us is our runaway debt, not the sequester, which the President advocated for and signed into law and is now running around denouncing because he never had any genuine intention of reining in his reckless spending.

Remember that this sequestration deal came about because of the long debt ceiling standoff in the summer of 2011. It wasn’t the ideal outcome for anyone, but it did at least include real deficit reduction of about $110 billion per year for 10 years, which is still nowhere near enough to close our massive deficit. Keep in mind that since the sequester passed, the President has already hit American families and small business owners with his tax increases, or “more revenue” as he likes to call it. The American public doesn’t want tax increases; we want government to rein in its overspending.

If we can’t stomach modest cuts that would lower federal spending by a mere 0.3% per year out of a current federal budget of $3.6 trillion, then we might as well signal to the whole world that we have no serious intention of dealing with our debt problem.

If we are going to wet our proverbial pants over 0.3% in annual spending cuts when we’re running up trillion dollar annual deficits, then we’re done. Put a fork in us. We’re finished. We’re going to default eventually and that’s why the feds are stockpiling bullets in case of civil unrest.

If we ARE serious about putting our fiscal house in order, then let’s stop the hysterics, tighten our belts, and take our medicine.

- Sarah Palin

It’s offical. “Touré: Thank God for abortion” has done us in.

steebo77 on January 28, 2013 at 10:08 AM

On the bright side, to quote Obama,

“I WON!!!!!!!!”

steebo77 on January 28, 2013 at 10:09 AM

LOL

Fallon on February 27, 2013 at 9:39 AM

LOL Now, I’m breaking the five post rule. Sheesh. Obamamath has done me in.

Fallon on February 27, 2013 at 9:40 AM

Fallon – after reading your blog I have no doubt what you would do as a Grandmama to cater to your family, putting Martha to shame!

Thanks for your mini-flashback laughs :)

After reviewing the news today, this Michelle Malkin “Evolution of Liberal Dance” tape [that's her dancing complete with wig!] was my perfect antidote. LOL!

I’m leaning that way myself.

And meanwhile, celebrate (tomorrow?) for the one month anniversary of when Gulchers chose to continue here in the archives..

Hey Koolaid Man! Do the usual suspects know that we mark our first month off the grid tomorrow?

Hi bluefox! I’m kickin’ myself about CPAC, oh well. How are you celebrating tomorrow?

Fallon on February 27, 2013 at 8:57 PM

Glad to see everyone here. I’ve had some time on a few of the threads, but been busy with Fed/State Taxes. Trying to find a 1040 Tax book was a chore since they don’t mail anything now.

Also, making calls and contacts in my State on who is doing what on that Medicaid Expansion. Then filling in the family with the details.

I need a secretary, LOL

Enjoyed reading all of your comments:-) So it’s been a month since we’ve been “down” here?

Fallon on February 27, 2013 at 8:57 PM

Hi Fallon!! See you’ve been busy in the kitchen:-) 1 year olds are so cute!
Oh, I know it would be nice to go to CPAC, but that is very expensive.

To celebrate tomorrow, I was thinking of some pics of Sarah perhaps from 2008? I have some cute images on my old Desktop, but not sure how to post them here. I’ll see if I can find links for them instead.

That site you posted said that it’s picking up traffic again. Hmmmm. Interesting.

Do you follow Mark Levin?

The site looks like it originates out of New Zealand. There is a NZ in it’s address. Interesting, indeed, that it has picked up viewers.

I don’t really listen to Mark Levin. He comes on in the Chicago radio market later at night, it’s hard for me to listen then. (I’ve never picked up the habit of listening to podcasts.) I do listen and read when people at HA link to him and I agree with him quite often.

Fallon on February 27, 2013 at 9:22 PM

That is strange that the website comes out of NZ. I knew it wasn’t familiar with me. Very interesting with a lot of links and pics.

Levin comes on at 6PM in my area and then repeats at 9PM. I just listen online since I have my speakers hooked up on my desktop.

He has a surge against Eric Cantor. I think this explains it.
http://www.nationalreview.com/corner/341825/closed-door-meeting-cantor-warned-civil-war-katrina-trinko

The Senate passed a Violence Against Women Act bill which Levin said is horrific! Cantor threatened the House to pass the rule so they could vote on it. Only 9 R’s voted no. Levin said the bill has speech restrictions/stress and all kinds of nasties:-)

Both sides are just the same: corrupt!

Have a good evening too.

Hmmm, I don’t know how many exclamation marks he’s up to, but I think Bmore may be along later to challenge your “Last !”.

No spoiler alert… I agreed with the Top Chef results tonight.

Goodnight Gulchers. Early happy one month anniversary.

Yes, I’m sure either Bmore or Mr. Kool will stop by:-) I found a couple of jpg’s but no links so far. I’ll keep searching.

Hope everyone has a Happy Anniversary Day here at the Gulch!!

Sarah with a FB post warning us that the gubmint is storing ammunition.

Right on Death Panels. Right on Ammo.

@ Fallon

i’ve dvd’ed top chef. have you seen The Taste. brian malarkey (terrible on prior top chef imho) is on the show. ludo acts like a child. nigella is a disapointment (picks crappy cooks) and bourdain is his typlical self.

renalin on February 28, 2013 at 4:28 PM

watching the Jodi Arias trial, while working. use to listen to rush.

with all the low info voter in this country, i’m betting she eventually only gets manslaughter.

Happy Anniversary!

Sarah cooked this especially for us and I’m setting up the bar. .

Fallon and ren – I’ve been watching all of the above contests. I was a bit sad for Brooke since she won more than any other competitor, so I felt she was a bit robbed.

The Taste is interesting as a concept but some of the personalities are definitely annoying. ;)

For foodies like me, all these shows are educational and entertaining. Anne Burrell’s Chef Wanted is on tonight. She is one of my favorites!

steebo77 – 3,380?! Impressive. I suspect we will continue to be “here all along”.

One of the girls who’s already been kicked off (the yoga instructor from San Francisco who burned her flatbread) was a college friend of mine.

steebo77 on February 28, 2013 at 5:10 PM

Regarding the Top Chef finale last night…

What a stupid format! It was too much like Iron Chef and you knew who had one with 15 minutes left in the show.

I’d have to say, based on the season as a whole, I was leaning toward Brooke, though Kristen is also a great chef.

steebo77 on February 28, 2013 at 5:14 PM

Might as well go for it…
