Report: Palin parts ways with Fox News

posted at 6:51 pm on January 25, 2013 by Allahpundit

Her choice, not theirs, according to a source who spoke to RCP.

After a three-year run as a paid contributor to the nation’s highest-rated cable news channel, Sarah Palin and FOX News have cut ties, according to a source close to the former Alaska governor.

“It’s my understanding that Gov. Palin was offered a contract by FOX, and she decided not to renew the arrangement,” the source close to Palin told RCP. “She remains focused on broadening her message of common-sense conservatism across the country and will be expanding her voice in the national discussion.”

The source declined to say whether Palin would pursue a television contract with another news network, such as CNN.

Not surprising given what happened last year at the convention, although the Times claims she and Fox were negotiating a new contract as recently as last week. Maybe she has another offer on the table that’s sweeter than theirs?

My first thought when I read the RCP piece was that Mark Begich is up for reelection next year and is already preparing for a strong conservative challenge, but NRO’s Robert Costa tweets some skepticism:

I thought challenging Begich, a weak blue incumbent in a very red state, was her best bet back to political office, but maybe she’s transitioned to Arizona now. (Costa hears that she’s still occasionally in touch with Joe Miller, who appears to be planning to challenge Begich himself.) If not politics, then what? Hard to believe she’d trade Fox for CNN. Maybe … Glenn Beck’s network, The Blaze? It had 300,000 online subscribers as of last summer and must have many more now, especially since Dish Network started airing it in September. And Beck’s aggressively trying to promote it, from making a bid on Current TV to gain a platform on basic cable to opening foreign bureaus in hopes of becoming a sort of libertarian alternative to Fox. She’d instantly raise the network’s profile and bring in new viewers. And there’s plenty of room on the programming schedule for her: The channel currently airs from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. ET with a two-hour block free from 2-4 so they could give her her own show if that’s what she has in mind. If I had to bet, I’d bet that’s where she goes.

That does sound yummy. It puts my hardboiled egg and piece of Wasa bread to shame. Though, I did put caramel macchiato creamer in my coffee.

It’s granddaughter day. I can only pop in when she’s napping.

Oh, Happy Mardi Gras Day! (That’s repetitive, isn’t it. Fat Tuesday Day?)… Time to get the dogs into their costumes and finish decorating the Gulch.

Congrats on the Twitter thing. I still don’t really understand “tweets” though I do like Michelle Malkin’s Twitchy site. My daughter signed me up for Pinterest, and I don’t get that either. She says, “‘Pin’ the things you like.” I say, “Why?”

If Flora does tweet back, tell her “Hi!” from the Gulch.

I am going to get some andouille sausage from the market today and am roasting a turkey breast later to pull apart for the gumbo and other things. That’ll make up for the Wasa bread this morning. I think Wasa means “punishment” in some Scandinavian language.

The Palace Cafe’s Chicken (or turkey :) and Andouille Gumbo is incredible! I had the pleasure of eating it there (in NOLA), bought their book, cut the recipe in half and it worked beautifully. Tried to find it online as a link to no avail, so I’m typing it here for you in my short form approach – [good practice for me to do so]:

~ Generously season 1.5 lbs. of chicken (bone in) with creole seasoning. Saute in oil on high til brown. Remove.
~ Add 1/3 C oil on high and whisk in 1/2 C oil. Cook, stirring, til amber.
~ Add 1/2 C each diced celery, onion, green pepper, 1+ T minced garlic and cook 10 min./til tender. Roux will darken.
~ Add 1/2 lb. (or more) sliced andouille, 3 bay leaves, 1/2 C tomato paste, 1/2 t chili powder and cook, stirring, 5 min.
~ Add 2 qts. chicken stock. Bring to boil, reduce, simmer 30 min., skimming.
~ Add chicken pieces or boned chicken, 1/4 C fresh oregano, salt and pepper to taste. Simmer 30 min.
~ Serve over long grain rice garnished with lots of green onions.

Opinionator on February 12, 2013 at 3:38 PM

Dang. The celery, onions and peppers should each be 1.5 C.

Opinionator on February 12, 2013 at 3:44 PM

Opinionator on February 12, 2013 at 3:44 PM

Thank you. I also understand that the 1/2 cup oil is supposed to be flour to make the roux. I was gonna wing the recipe tonight but I’ll use yours. It looks very good. (I’ll have to add some okra, too, per Bmore). The turkey breast is already in the oven.

What I have to avoid are the paczkis at the store this afternoon. They are a Chicago tradition and are soooo tempting.

I think Mary Katherine Ham might be our HA patron saint here. (I hope that isn’t sacrilegious.) Just a feeling.

Fallon – of course it was flour – great proofer, aren’t I? Glad you’re trying it. The paczkis look delish! MKH, hmmm? Could be. If so, thank you MKH!!

renalin – I hope you love it! IMO, it’s the best ever. I add more meats and garlic – more heat if you like it that way – gumbo file, etc.
I also let it cook longer so it gets quite thick.

Liver is excellent on trout lines. On a slightly different take. A place just up the road from me is the kind of place you stop in if you are local. Drive right on past (even if you are on empty) if you’re not, has pickled eggs on the counter, hoop cheese. Well you get the picture. Anyway for two bucks you get a brown paper bag of deep fried chicken livers. Yum! Most excellent! Something about them coming in a brown paper bag I suspect. ; )

Oh my gosh, it was sooo delicious. Thank you.

I added 1 lb. of andouille sausage and about 2 cups of turkey breast. For the broth I used 1 quart chicken stock and 1 quart turkey stock. I also added 1 cup of frozen cut-up okra when I added the turkey back in at the end. I also added about a tablespoon of the Creole seasoning since the turkey wasn’t seasoned with it when it was roasted. Other than that I followed your recipe to a “T.”

Because I’m a little weird, I served it with a choice of rice or quinoa.

My oldest daughter came over and, unfortunately, we went shopping and came home with the ingredients for Hurricanes and a store baked King cake, lol.

I just need to say thanks before I finish my second Hurricane and start sloppy typing, lol. Hubby had two Hurricanes and is already yelling at the TV as the politicians and “guests” file in…

I think there is a pretty clear consensus among informed conservatives that Sarah Palin is not presidential material. She can play a role in other ways, hopefully not trying to divide conservatives as she did last time. Perhaps the best thing she can do at this point is just to lay low and quit trying to get attention. She needs to realize that her relevance has greatly diminished and that conservatives are looking at people like Scott Walker, Marco Rubio, Rand Paul, Paul Ryan, Ted Cruz and others. We shouldn’t be afraid to state the obvious: Sarah Palin failed in 2008. She got less votes than the 2012 ticket. She’s doing great for herself now, and we are happy about that. But she is a failure as a national candidate.

Fallon – I’m so glad you liked it! The Palace Cafe is a very fine, historic restaurant in NOLA. All credit goes to them. As you proved, that recipe is infinitely tweakable. Consider, for example, simply adding cooked red beans for a fine rendition of red beans and rice.

I want to share that for 10 years before the big, bad stroke, I was a prof in the food world – catering company, personal chef to ‘stars’, fed governors and up to 500, recipe writing for a grocery chain, blah blah. Would be happy to share recipes/tips as we go along. . We’ve gotta eat (other than crappie) in the Gulch! Food and cooking remains one of my major passions. I have a question for all of you obsessive Palinistas:

How do you expect to react when Sarah Palin chooses not to run for president in 2016? Will you right away start petitioning for her to run in 2020? Or will you wisely realize that Sarah Palin is not going to appear on a national ticket again?

I wish we could all just agree that Sarah Palin is right on many issues, and that someone is not an enemy for stating that Palin would ensure a Democrat victory.

You guys attack anyone for not bowing down to Sarah Palin and radio host Mark Levin. The Palin cultist Bluefox kind of lashed out at the always-polite Terry the other day for not agreeing with Levin. Your obsessive Palin antics are getting out of control. I wish I didn’t have to reign you guys in, but this undeserved Palin worship must end. Thankfully it is in its last days.

One of my sons is a serious foodie, he’ll cook and try anything. I am just a self-taught cook. I wrote a blog a couple of years ago that chronicled cooking from a CSA box (Community Supported Agriculture, I call it Customer Supported Agriculture, don’t deny the capitalism involved, lol). Our country didn’t weather a Revolution, two World Wars, a Civil War, a Great Depression, and countless other political and economic storms, just to be sunk by the dangerous policies of this current administration. We’re stronger than this. As President Reagan said, “I do not believe in a fate that will fall on us no matter what we do. I do believe in a fate that will fall on us if we do nothing.”

So, do something. 2014 is just around the corner. Get motivated! Get organized. America, don’t retreat. In the words of yet another White House program, “Let’s move.”

One more thing before I go for the day. In honor of Sarah’s BD, Abe and my dear, departed Mom’s BD yesterday, my BD today and Valentine’s Day tomorrow, please allow me to gift two of my favorite and sinfully easy hors d’oeuvres:

French Kisses

~ Combine well 3 C shredded cheddar, 1/2 small can chopped black olives, 2 – 3 chopped green onions and enough mayo to bind (maybe 1/3 – 1/2 C). Start adding Beau Monde seasoning (means ‘beautiful world’ in French and hence the name) by the teaspoonful until you like the taste – you’ll taste the celery but don’t go too salty. If you can’t find Beau Monde, use celery salt.

~ Spread thickly on small rounds of baguette (you can have the bakery in your grocery store slice them for you – I always did :).
Broil until melted, mottled brown and bubbly.

Brie Bites

Take the skin off Brie and cut into 1″ bites. Wrap in prosciutto to cover. Place on 3″ rounds of puff pastry, egg wash the edges and fold dough over to form half rounds. Pleat the edges to seal. Bake at 400 until puffed and golden, 10 – 12 min. You could, of course, add a layer of jam – or pesto, etc., etc. – but I prefer these simple bites.

Take care – see y’all soon.

why does howard even bring it up if she was irrelevant.

why does the left always want to find someone who thinks she’s dumb. They have tried for YEARS! and not one individual that has ever met Sarah thought she was dumb.

Trump has always supported Sarah. He knows a winner.

Thats why this mutha is 30 pages long.

What Rubio would be doing to Palin’s tweets if he had any good sense.

…I don’t even want to go over the threads I missed today…which was almost all of them…usually I go through them…don’t want to watch the news either…concentrating on sports lately…MSU and U of M basketball last night…Red Wing Hockey tonight…listened to Sports talk all the way to work today…instead of Bill Bennet… don’t want to hear about JugEars for a while…unless it is Rush or Levine…Hannity has me burnt out the last couple of months…Laura…all of them lately…where I was a newshound 24/7…having the radio on…while the TV is on…while on the computer…grabbing what I want…I just feel like not being reminded… what a failure the Republicans have been lately…in the House especially! All talk…no action!
Except for the fact that Palin did not run…she WAS action…she didn’t just talk!

That sounds delicious!! Never tried London Broil on the grill, but I love using it for Beef & Noodles. Makes the best broth for that.

Hope your dinner goes off without a hitch!!

bluefox – Thanks for your thoughts. Don’t you know some day I hope to do a book(s) – lost count of my recipes by now – close to 1,000? When I escape the survival mode, trust me I will try to find a way. :)

http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Government/2013/02/13/Palin-on-True-State-of-the-Union-Venal-Politicians-in-Distant-Corrupt-Gov-t-Bankrupting-Nation

Palin concluded by urging Republicans to get ready for the 2014 midterm elections: “So, do something. 2014 is just around the corner. Get motivated! Get organized. America, don’t retreat. In the words of yet another White House program, ‘Let’s move.’”

Go Sarah!!!
