Report: Palin parts ways with Fox News

posted at 6:51 pm on January 25, 2013 by Allahpundit

Her choice, not theirs, according to a source who spoke to RCP.

After a three-year run as a paid contributor to the nation’s highest-rated cable news channel, Sarah Palin and FOX News have cut ties, according to a source close to the former Alaska governor.

“It’s my understanding that Gov. Palin was offered a contract by FOX, and she decided not to renew the arrangement,” the source close to Palin told RCP. “She remains focused on broadening her message of common-sense conservatism across the country and will be expanding her voice in the national discussion.”

The source declined to say whether Palin would pursue a television contract with another news network, such as CNN.

Not surprising given what happened last year at the convention, although the Times claims she and Fox were negotiating a new contract as recently as last week. Maybe she has another offer on the table that’s sweeter than theirs?

My first thought when I read the RCP piece was that Mark Begich is up for reelection next year and is already preparing for a strong conservative challenge, but NRO’s Robert Costa tweets some skepticism:

I thought challenging Begich, a weak blue incumbent in a very red state, was her best bet back to political office, but maybe she’s transitioned to Arizona now. (Costa hears that she’s still occasionally in touch with Joe Miller, who appears to be planning to challenge Begich himself.) If not politics, then what? Hard to believe she’d trade Fox for CNN. Maybe … Glenn Beck’s network, The Blaze? It had 300,000 online subscribers as of last summer and must have many more now, especially since Dish Network started airing it in September. And Beck’s aggressively trying to promote it, from making a bid on Current TV to gain a platform on basic cable to opening foreign bureaus in hopes of becoming a sort of libertarian alternative to Fox. She’d instantly raise the network’s profile and bring in new viewers. And there’s plenty of room on the programming schedule for her: The channel currently airs from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. ET with a two-hour block free from 2-4 so they could give her her own show if that’s what she has in mind. If I had to bet, I’d bet that’s where she goes.

To all the gang here!!

Congrats to all and hope all is well!

We shall overcome this travesty of govt.

Once a people puts there minds to it, changes can be made!

I am with Floatingrock, we need at least a 3 million person march on DC!

So huge that we cannot be ignored or downplayed by the govt or the damn LSFM…

I am loathe to fly, but for this, I would!!

As July 4th gets closer we need to be in touch with local and national TP’ers and keep an eye on if they are gonna organise a rally of humongous proportions!!

It’s what we need…for our moral…for hope and our dignity!!

I leave you with this poem:

Virgil, Aeneid, II, ii. 250–267

And now the heavens shift and the night comes in,
And covers with its darkness earth and sky
And the tricks of the Myrmidons. Throughout the city
The Trojans, wearied by joy, lie fast asleep.
And now the Greeks set out from Tenedos,
Their ships proceeding in an ordered line,
Under the friendly light of the silent moon,
Making their way toward the shore they know so well,
And when the royal galley’s beacon light
Is lighted, Sinon sees it, and quietly goes,
Protected by malign complicit fates,
And furtively opens up the Horse’s flank
And frees the Argive warriors from its womb.
The Horse releases them to the open air
And joyfully they come out: first come the captains
Thessander, and Sthenelus, and dire Ulysses,
Lowering themselves to the ground by means of a rope,
And Acamas and Thoas, and Pyrrhus, Achilles’ son,
And Machaon the prince, and Menelaus,
And Epeus, he, who contrived the Wooden Horse
That fooled us so. And then they enter the city,
That’s deep submerged in wine and unknowing sleep;
They surprise and kill the watch, and open the gates
To welcome in their comrades from the fleet,
Letting them in for what they are going to do.

Hi, everyone!

I’m really tired–happy tired.

Let me start with the FOOD, since this is definitely a foodie thread.

The caterer did a superb job. Caesar salad, veggie mix of broccoli, zucchini and yellow squash (I like all three), and new potatoes.

Smoked brisket and chicken bruschetta. You could literally make your own bruschetta because there were separate bowls of chopped tomatoes and cheese, and balsamic vinegar (with something else in it). I adore balsamic vinegar.

There was also some kind of Italian artisan bread with the hors d’oeuvres, and I went back and got some of it for the bruschetta.

I wish I would have been able to eat more!

For cake, they had a small two-tier white wedding cake–excellent. A one-tier chocolate cake. Then numerous kinds of cupcakes: strawberry, peanut butter, cheesecake with blueberries. I think there were chocolate cupcakes as well. One of the bride’s grandmothers was once a professional baker, and she may have done all the cakes.

The best man gave a terrific speech/toast. He was one of the guys who shared a house with our son. We’ve known his family for about ten years.

He’s #4 son of a homeschool family with seven kids. Sons #2 and #3 and #4 were in and out of our home constantly. Great guys. #2 would have been the best man, but he’s now in the Navy and couldn’t get away.

In his speech he recounted their history with some funny and poignant moments. I was publicly thanked for all the pizza I served them over the years!

:)

The mother-son dance was, of course, very meaningful to me. I teared up a bit. My son thanked me for being a great mom.

The reception was held at the New Smyrna Beach Woman’s Club. Construction began on the building in the 1920′s and it’s now registered as a national historic landmark. The building is stucco.

http://www.floridamemory.com/items/show/145166

This photo says c. 1916, but that must be a decade off. The hardwood floors are still there, and the large windows on the right and all the small transoms are still visible. The beams parallel to the stage are visible, but the ceiling is now just above those beams and hides the rafters and interior of the roof. There’s a sprinkler system hidden there now. The building is built up off the ground so ducts for heating and air have now been built into the floor.

The beams have a scroll work pattern on the end, and the walls and stage are now plastered with the upper corners of the stage having scallop work that echoes the beams. The room is now painted a soft, muted green. (Sort of a pale version of that sage green that Martha Stewart loves).

The openings on the left aren’t windows, but archways that open into a small side room with a coquina fireplace. The caterer was set up in there. A kitchen is at the back of this room, and I think one wall of counter and cabinets had to be original.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coquina

(The Castillo de San Marcos (Spanish fort) at St. Augustine is built of coquina ).

The foyer has photographs of all the presidents of the club going back to 1911. And there’s the famous pair of paintings of George Washington and Martha Washington, one on each side of the main opening into the hall, looking at each other. They’re probably been there for 70 or 80 years!

It was a lovely place for a wedding reception.

That’s all for now. We’re still over here, and I have to run. More later!

I’m hoping Flora Duh won the lottery, lol.

Good morning, Gulchers!!!

Conservative tarheel, the recipe looks delicious. I’m always looking for interesting cold salads for the summer.(And, OP, the chicken recipe earlier looks delicious, too.) I love this place. The food talk can’t be beat.

Scrumpy, congrats on a *Swooshy* and inspirational page turn! We shall overcome…

INC, the wedding… Oh, everything sounded so beautiful. Like, Scrumpy said, easy to picture in our minds. I was fine until the mother-son dance. That got me a bit misty-eyed. What a busy month for you. You have earned a little quiet time. Congrats again on raising an amazing son.

Coffee’s on.

Fallon on May 20, 2013 at 8:12 AM

Thanks, ct, Scrumpy & Fallon!

Since I’m sort of going backwards in the timeline: The ceremony was lovely. It was performed by an Anglican minister in a small Baptist church.

???

What? You ask!

The church is one attended by the bride’s grandparents. The minister is a wonderful man who helped our family in a time of great need.

We’re not Anglican, but 7 or 8 years ago friends of my son was invited by friends to a Sunday night Bible study the minister did for young men in their older teens–high school students up into the first couple of years of college. They cooked and ate together. The minister devised physical challenges and courses at a local park, and took them through Bible study. It was one of the best things I’ve ever personally known that was done for young men to help them through those transition years.

When the crash of 2008 came we were severely effected. We eventually had to move from the area, but our son needed to finish at the same community college. The minister and his wife opened up their home to our son, and he lived with them for over a year as he finished there and then began course work at UCF. Our son was later able to move into a house with Christian guys that he knew.

The minister and his church also provided a huge amount of spiritual and emotional and physical support to us. Our pastor supported us as well, but we really only had one couple from our congregation who stood by us. It was a sorrowful and hard thing to experience. We did have a few other friends who helped us pack and move.

The Anglican church is one of the ones that broke with the ECUSA when it ordained the gay NH bishop. The rector and assistant rector (who is now the minister/rector of the church) could not condone this unbiblical stance and announced that they would personally be leaving the ECUSA. The two men didn’t know what would happen to them and their familes, but they made this courageous and faithful decision. Most of the congregation went with them.

They had to leave the church property behind as the ECUSA church structure meant it belonged to the ECUSA. A charismatic church shared their property with them: the Anglicans held their service while the charismatics did Sunday School, and then they would switch buildings. The Anglicans were later able to purchase a property from a Baptist church that was moving, and it’s far better than their original one in the ECUSA.

I’m telling you all this so that you will know what a very special man the minister was, and how significant it was for him to perform the ceremony. From what we know, he also did a terrific job with premarital counseling. He always meets with couples at least four times and more if he believes they need it.

At the close when he was about to end by blessing the couple in prayer, he had us and the bride’s parents come up and put our hands on the shoulder of our own child while the couple was kneeling. It was very meaningful.

Still more to come on the clothes, flowers, and where we’re staying! We won’t be home until sometime tomorrow so I’m doing this piecemeal.

Love to you all.

OKC Tornado in Moore and newcastle…

Devastation… people have died… Tornadoes keep forming.

Please pray for the people of OKC Moore and Newcastle…

Sadly it’s not over…

God Bless

Scrumpy on May 20, 2013 at 5:50 PM

Almost mirrors the ’99 tornado that devastated the Moore/Norman area back then. A 3 to 5 level tornado, 1 mile wide sustained winds of 200+ miles an hr…

Choppers have been asked to not fly over area, rescuers can’t hear peoples cries for help…

People are searching thru debris and rubble.

Reporter saying this is worse than the ’99 tornado…

Scrumpy on May 20, 2013 at 5:53 PM

I’m glad you’re safe, Scrumpy. I’ll be praying.

That is a tough one to answer, no one has said. Perhaps it wasn’t built as sturdy as newer buildings.

Just pray for them.

I want to thank the People of TX for sending over 600 experts to Moore to help with rescue.

God Bless OK and God Bless you all here…
