Thought for the day: Why does Prince Harry need to antagonize the Taliban?

A minor classic via Newsbusters. This is stupid, yes, but not for the reason it seems at first blush. I don’t think Jones is saying that NATO troops, who’ve spent more than 11 years killing the Taliban, should fret about hurting their feelings. I think she’s saying that Harry’s already enough of a target that it’s reckless to give terrorists any extra motivation to find him. It’s the same argument, essentially, as the White House gives for why it won’t release the Bin Laden death photos. Taunting the other team from the end zone arguably does more for their morale than for yours. (The Taliban’s actual reaction to Harry’s interview was surprising, less angry than smug.)
The real reason this is stupid is that there’s a painfully obvious answer to the question. Namely, that Harry talking about his experience in the British military killing jihadis is the best press the royal family has had in ages. Quote:
Asked before he left Afghanistan if he had killed insurgents during his tour, he said: “Yeah, so, lots of people have. … Yes, we fire when we have to, take a life to save a life, but essentially we’re more of a deterrent than anything else.
“If there’s people trying to do bad stuff to our guys, then we’ll take them out of the game, I suppose,” the second son of Prince Charles and the late Princess Diana said in one of several interviews released to the media…
Harry’s job as an Apache co-pilot was to man its weapons system when his 662 Squadron unit flew sorties in support of ground troops fighting Taliban or accompanying other helicopters on missions to evacuate casualties…
“Yes, you get shot at. But if the guys who are doing the same job as us are being shot at on the ground, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with us [Prince William and himself] being shot at as well. People back home will have issues with that, but we’re not special.”
Most royal “news” has to do with Kate Middleton’s hair or whatever. This guy flies Apaches under fire in Afghanistan and gives a winningly egalitarian explanation for why he’s willing to do it and somehow his comment comparing his duties to video games is proof that he’s “jumped the shark”? What?

Actually, “racism” originated not in the United States but in the Middle East. In places like Babylon and Greece. And in America, “racism” was first observed not in the Hick South, but in Indiana. I won’t even get into the Race Riots in LA in 1992, which had absolutely nothing to do with “Trailer Trash folks from Dixie”.

Julian Bond’s among those on the left who think Obama’s mistake was not going the full Hugo Chavez route in 2009, by having Bush, Cheney and others investigated and/or arrested, while using the government not just to harass, but to shut down opposing news outlets like Fox, along with talk radio and conservative websites.
He has no problem with the idea of a totalitarian Democratic president, because he sees the right as so evil they deserve to be harassed, and possibly imprisoned if they fail to submit to the government.
(In contrast, if the Republicans ever regain power, Bond also is the type who would try and justify violent protests in the Bill Ayers style, for the same “the right is eeevill” reason. He just doesn’t have enough guts to do it himself, and since 9/11 and now after Boston, others on the left know revisiting the Vietnam era won’t get you seen as heroic liberators by the vast majority of the population.)

I think calling Bond “racist” isn’t right and doesn’t adequately describe what is really going on inside the heart and mind of someone like Mr. Bond. If anything he just really hates middle class white people much like you feel threatened by underprivileged white people who live in trailer parks. It’s more of a race and class issue and not just something as clear cut as “racism”.

There was a time, many years ago, when I had some respect for Julian Bond, no more. If there is any racist in this world it IS Julian Bond. To say what he says, about people he knows absolutely nothing about, is what we’re all told we should be fighting against.
If there is any group that deserves to have it’s tax exempt status looked into, it’s the NAACP. Not only are they a part of the Democratic Party, but their politics are such that they attack anyone who doesn’t agree with the Democrats. That doesn’t seem to be a-political to me.

It should be pointed out that LBJ’s military service was quite a put on. He was in Congress at the time, and so many congressmen held commissions that they had to be recalled to do their job in Congress and put off the uniform. The rest of the group in uniform were real servicemen. But not LBJ.

I’ve never seen a right-of-center site that tolerates trolls constantly calling people racists, week in week out, month in month out, based on no evidence whatsoever. Until now.

You obviously didn’t get the message…the Democrats have been absolved of their thuggery, murderous and racist past because that entire slack-jawed, ne’er-do-well wing of the Democrat party abandoned the Democrats under Reagan.In fact they were not even “real” Democrats but merely proto-southern-Republicans.
Bull Connor was simply a proto-southern-Republican but didn’t have the advantage of time to know it yet.
In this way, the Democrats have never had the stain of racism….those were the sins of proto-southern-Republicans. The Regan Revolution was actually a successful eugenics program that allowed the “real” Democrats to purify their party of their dim-witted, racists brethren who thankfully fell for Reagan and switched sides.
The Democrats are now the MENSA party with pure motivations and best suited to lead and provide for their more intellectually challenged, fearful, paranoid, racists fellow man (Republicans) …who reject modernity, the Enlightenment & science and continue to cling to their guns and religion.
