Katie Couric to Manti Te’o: Is this a gay thing?

posted at 6:51 pm on January 24, 2013 by Allahpundit

Via Mediaite, she’s not coming at this out of the blue. TMZ posted a story this morning accusing alleged hoaxster Ronaiah Tuiasosopo of having, ahem, “intense feelings” for Te’o and of “channeling” those feelings through the female persona of “Lennay Kekua.” How far did the channeling go? Pretty far:

Hoax mastermind Ronaiah Tuiasosopo, posing as the mysterious Lennay Kekua, was the falsetto voice on the other end of the all-night phone calls with the Notre Dame star, the scammer’s lawyer said.

The Heisman Trophy finalist “thought it was a female he was talking with,” lawyer Milton Grimes acknowledged to the Daily News. “It was Ronaiah as Lennay.”…

“Come on, Hollywood does it all the time,” Grimes said Wednesday. “People can do that.”

Tuiasosopo’s résumé includes vocal and dramatic training. He was president of his high school drama club, performs with a Christian band and auditioned last year for the TV talent show “The Voice.”

Kind of strange that Tuiasosopo’s own lawyer is so upfront about how he misled Te’o, no? Also strange: He supposedly had two accomplices, one of whom was a woman — and yet it’s Tuiasosopo himself who provided “Lennay’s” voice. (You can listen to audio of the voicemails from “Lennay” below, via the Daily Caller.) In order to prove that he was legitimately duped, a “source close to Te’o” also released spreadsheets today to ESPN purporting to show records of the many, many late-night phone chats between Te’o and “Lennay.” Why spreadsheets of the records instead of the actual records themselves? I … don’t know.

And yet, there are still reasons to believe Te’o wasn’t in on this. For one thing, the gay theory makes no sense. If he needed a fake girlfriend to obscure his orientation, he could find one on campus. There must be hundreds of girls in South Bend willing to date the Irish’s star player. And Te’o is reportedly devoutly religious so he’d have the perfect excuse for keeping things platonic. In fact, he has dated women on campus and his latest GF says she absolutely believes that he was duped. The idea of him inventing a tragic romance to burnish his narrative before the Heisman vote makes some sense; the idea of him inventing a girl he never met or even saw to somehow disguise the fact that he’s gay, knowing that there was a risk the whole thing would be found out, really doesn’t.

Beyond that, follow the link to the ESPN story above and scroll down to the photo of Diane O’Meara, the woman whose image Tuiasosopo allegedy used as the face of “Lennay.” The same image, partially obscured, appeared in Deadspin’s original blockbuster story about Te’o. According to O’Meara, Tuiasosopo asked her to take the photo in December as a morale booster for his cousin, who’d been in a car accident. That was, of course, just his cover story; per ESPN, after “Lennay” called Te’o on December 6 to tell him she wasn’t really dead, Te’o asked for a dated photo of her to prove she was alive. That’s probably what spurred Tuiasosopo to ask O’Meara for the pic. (If that’s confusing to you, read this Smoking Gun post from last week, which explains it more clearly.) Simply put, if Te’o was in on this hoax all along, why does that photo of O’Meara dated December 21, 2012 exist? Why would Te’o and Tuiasosopo need it? It makes more sense to believe that Tuiasosopo provided it as proof to Te’o that “Lennay” was a real person and alive than that they cooked up a whole new unnecessary subplot together about “Lennay” trying to win Te’o back after revealing that she never died in the first place.

I need a drink.

“Rest assured, if the bill becomes law with a 15- to 20-year citizenship path, amnesty shills will waste no time afterward slamming the GOP for such a draconian demand at the expense of poor “undocumented” Mexicans.”

That won’t matter…

… The moment it passes, everyone gets a temporary Visa, which will allow them to get a Driver’s License, which will register them to vote.

Who cares if they ever become legal, they can vote…

… and that is the entire goal behind this.

Yeppers, apparently you cannot even remain silent about homosexual issue anymore. Silence will now be taken also as homophobia:

http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Journalism/2013/05/01/Chicago-Tribune-Columnist-Demands-Bears-Player-Explain-Position-On-Jason-Collins

In a Tuesday column, Rosenbloom publicly “outed” Chicago Bears linebacker Lance Briggs for having the gall to not express an opinion on the Collins episode. Apparently, a number of Briggs’ Twitter followers peppered the football player on the issue and in response Briggs (or whoever handles his Twitter feed) responded with non-responses such as, “How about those Bulls!!”

The Bears should encourage Briggs to explain, lest they get cast as clinging to intolerant beliefs as useless as a Lamborghini cracked up on the side of the Edens. A Bears source said Briggs’ Twitter account is ghostwritten some of the time (maybe that’s who deleted those tweets), but the source told me the team, trying since Monday, has not been able to reach Briggs for an explanation.

rsherwd65 on May 1, 2013 at 6:21 PM

I’m seriously having gay fatigue. I don’t think I’m alone. I am just so freaking sick of hearing about somebody being gay.

Today we were at a job site and someone mentioned that gay basketball player… had to be at least 10 other guys around us… it was like a sudden outburst of profanity… all directed at the player and the media.

Yeah.. I read today Obama is going to Court Martial soldiers who share their Christian faith. Hannity said it even could effect Chaplains. Sorta like “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” for Christians.

Breitbart has the link.

So tell me.. how can a homosexual man get away with showering with straight guys? And yet straight guys can’t shower at the gym with straight females? I don’t get this. Oh I know I know.. gay people don’t get excised by showering with people they like to have sex with. They are…different.

I quit watching Hannity during the election. He simply refused to even acknowledge Perry’s even being present at the 3rd debate (who had made great strides since the first two and his back surgery), much less comment on how much improved he was (which was tremendous), but took the occasion to comment on Santorum and how MUCH he’d “improved” since his first debates.

He is obviously so much of a RINO, along with a few other talking heads at Fox that it’s useless to even listen to him.

avagreen on May 1, 2013 at 6:22 PM

Today’s ‘kabuki’ = tomorrow’s reality, folks. Why shouldn’t the libs set the bar high with their demands? They know that eventually the spineless GOP will give them whatever they want, and a little fun in demoralizing conservatives along the way is just an added inducement. The complicit media passes around and sets the ball and then Schumer et al. spike it. For example, U.S. News has tossed this little tidbit out there: How Student Debt Affects Women, Minorities and now it’s been dutifully picked up by HuffPo and then featured on the front page of Yahoo News. If you think the young and disaffected voter likes gay marriage, just wait til they get a load of this campaign. What’s not to love?!?

E-Verify for jobs and benefits. Allow the borders to be secured. Go after employers and make it very inhospitable to be here and they will leave.
They don’t want citizenship. They have a country. They want our money. And, get control of the visa system.

Why does something need to be done soon?

We already have statues on the books that were supposed to address the visa system problems and border security and none of them have been implemented. There’s no reason to believe that any of the security measures in the new bill will go anywhere – particularly since the legislation essentially just turns over the whole thing to a committee instead of actually legislating hard deadlines before the amnesty kicks in.

“It will virtually guarantee that [the bill] won’t pass,” Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), a member of the Gang of Eight negotiating group, told POLITICO in a brief interview. “This issue is a difficult enough issue as it is. I respect everyone’s views on it. But ultimately, if that issue is injected into this bill, the bill will fail and the coalition that helped put it together will fall apart.”…

And it’s job done for Schumer, he’s weakened Rubio with the voting base and now he’ll blame the evil Republicans for failing to pass the amnesty.

When will Rubio open his eyes and realize that Schumer is not his friend, that Schumer is the very essence of hard left partisanship and Schumer does not wish one good thing for Rubio?

Together Limbaugh, Levin and Hannity, with their wide reach, could quite possibly kill off this sell out amnesty simply by in no uncertain terms totally denouncing it’s chief spokesmouth, Marco Rubio. If they fail to do so they are as guilty in selling out America as Rubio and the other 7 gang members are. I believe this to be logically incontestable.

Limbaugh, Levin and Hannity have all gotten quite rich because of their loyal fan and because of America. And no, I do not think they therefore owe the government more taxes as I think they are all probably paying more than their fair share already, but they do owe their loyal fans and America who made them rich a lot and most of their fans are against amnesty for illegal invaders and they all claim to be too. By not denouncing and condemning the chief spokesmouth for amnesty for illegal invaders they are giving him cover (and Hannity just gave him more air time to spin his lies) and, in effect aid and comfort, and making it more likely that he will succeed in bringing down the Republic. If he does succeed it will be in large part thanks to them. What a way to say thank you to their loyal fans and to America.

It means preserving certain grievances against the GOP that can be used against them in 2014 and beyond to keep core Democratic constituencies alienated when Republicans try to build on the “goodwill” they’ll have allegedly earned by passing this thing.

At first I was dumbfounded as to why Republicans let Democrats write the bill with no apparent concessions. Then it dawned on me that the GOPe strategy is to completely wipe the ethnic demagoguery off the political map. The only way they can do that is to give democrats everything so they will have nothing on this issue to campaign over If the conservative base complains over the next few years they will just point back to the bill and say DHS is “developing a plan” to secure the border and enforce our laws.

I listened to Rubio’s whole plan today. We could do worse.

hawkdriver on May 1, 2013 at 6:22 PM

Rubio isn’t very bright.

Cruz is the real deal.

Rubio couldn’t even give a 5 minute speech without taking a drink of water and looking like a joke.

He is just being run out to lie to conservatives on talk radio.

The people just arrested in connection with the Boston bombing are illegals. But don’t let Rubio hear that.

The entire plan is more welfare and votes for Democrats.

The faster Texas turns blue the better.

Rubio was probably the number one pusher for America to use military force to kill Gaddafi which brought real Muslims to power and, among other things, lead to Benghazi. Now he wants to do the same in Syria, in between working toward his main goal of “earnesty” for tens of millions of illegal criminal alien invaders. The man is the plague.

Kinda like Obamacare.

Rubio was a dupe and he can suffer the dunces fate for willingly being the face of this atrocious bill.

workingclass artist on May 1, 2013 at 6:41 PM

It’s beyond time for people on the Right to accept that the Dems never wanted an Amnesty Bill. They could have pushed for one immediately after passing Porculus back in 2009, and the ‘Pubes would have fallen all over themselves to pass it. They went for Obamacare instead because that’s what they really wanted.

They didn’t want a Gun Bill either. The White House wants to demagogue these issues to take back the House in 2014. And they just might. It’s a disaster if they win it back, but the ‘Pubes deserve to lose it- they’ve really screwed up badly.

sartana on May 1, 2013 at 6:42 PM

It was 35% would move to the USA if they could and 20% that would do it illegally.

workingclass artist on May 1, 2013 at 6:41 PM

Not at all. Catholic and Democrat are a contradiction in terms. You cannot be both. For example, today as I was picking up my 2nd grader from her Catholic school today, the 7th grader we give a ride to told me that he had to stay in the office while all the other 7th and 8th graders listened to a speaker in the gym. I asked why on earth that was and he casually answered that it was because it was a pro-life speaker and his mom wouldn’t sign the permission slip for him to attend. This from a woman who faithfully attends Mass every Sunday and whose son is an altar server. See how screwed up we are?

Seems like every time I turn on Rush,he is trying to explain away his support for amnesty (Rubio). He sounds like some of the Libs who support Obama no matter how much damage he does to them. I know Rush’s life won’t change one bit after Rubio’s amnesty has turned the country into a third world cesspool like Mexico, but I wish he would take a minute to consider what will happen to the rest of us.

Alabama Infidel on May 1, 2013 at 6:47 PM

You have no chance any more GRINGOS. None at all. Your empty strutting peacock, your el Presidente is now ruling like a King and is the commander of your armed forces with all your generals now appointed by him and now my boss owns him. He had to pay him muchos dolares as he is very greedy man and does not seem to think that he can ever have too much money. They almost bankrupt my boss You are now tostada quemada. What on Earth were you thinking when you elected a traidor as your el Presidente? Were you all completely drunk? Way too much Tequila on election day? And two times for God’s sake!!!? Oh well, your loss and our gain. And now Senor Rubio is even going to put up a Big Gate for us, maybe we wasted a lot of money!

Once we get our earnesty from our for now dear amigo Marco, we will all come to your country. We will all have at least 10 ninos with mucho tax credits from you Gringo smucks and in a generation or two we will overwhelm and deport most of you Gringos! We will start with Arizona after your el Presidente moves federal troops there to arrest their governor and Joe Arpaio and hand the deed over to us and then we will move rapido from there all across the rest of your 57 states to take them over too. Some of you, if you learn Spanish real well, we might let you stay to pick our lettuce or mow our lawns or take care of OUR children in what used to be your houses. Those who don’t learn Spanish will be deported to Alaska. That is until Al Gore’s global warming heats things up and we want Alaska too, then we will deport you all to New Orleans. It will probably all be under water by then anyway.

So give it up and LEARN SPANISH! You should probably all buy Mexican flags too and fly them in your front yard and on your pickup trucks. If you already have an American flag there it is alright if you keep it, as long as you fly it upside down and below our great Mexican flag. Now repeat after me – I pledge allegiance to the flag of the Estados Unidos del Mucho Grande Mexico, and to the Republic for which it use to stand, one nation under us, with everything for us, and nothing anymore for you except to pay mucho mucho mucho more taxes for our tax credits. And remember Gringos, APRENDER EL ESPANOL!!!

Legalization of 20 million illegal aliens is no different than a path to citizenship. If the GOP will cave on legalization they will absolutely cave on a path to citizenship at some point in the future. We are better off with no legalization bill.

What Limbaugh, Levin and Hannity are doing is the equivalent of, back several decades ago, saying you are against communism but you really like Stalin. I would call such people actual supporters of communism. If Limbaugh, Levin and Hannity are too stupid to figure this out they are all going senile.

VorDaj on May 1, 2013 at 6:55 PM

Because the Democrats, and Rubio, feel that 33 million granted AMNESTY, and all the chain immigration that will result from those… and REDEFINING THE LEGAL DEFINITION OF EXTENDED FAMILY TO EXPAND IT TO INCLUDE MORE FAMILY MEMBERS… just isn’t enough.

Uh…no! I agree with the assessment that this is political theater. This is the ‘throw away’ item they’ll use to try and GET all those 33 million PLUS chain immigration WITH the expanded definition of immediate family PLUS leaving the border wide open PLUS changing the annual number of accepted LEGAL IMMIGRANTS from 1 million to 3 million PLUS changing the number of worker visas granted every year from about 700,000 to 1 million.

Did I mention that all of these 33 million would be immediately eligible for state and local welfare benefits immediately, and many would also qualify for some of the 83 means tested federal welfare programs immediately, too. ANY of them who had a child on US soil would immediately qualify for ALL welfare benefits, state, local, and federal through that child.
