Rand Paul to Hillary: Let’s face it, you should have been fired over Benghazi

posted at 12:41 pm on January 23, 2013 by Allahpundit

Via Gateway Pundit, I figured he might be the boldest Republican questioner but I had no idea how bold. The key line: “I think it’s good that you’re accepting responsibility because no one else is.” He’s taking dead aim at the insulting charade of buck-stops-here bravado among American politicians who are happy to “show leadership” by admitting to their failures on the condition that they’ll suffer no consequences for them. Accountability’s a smart theme for a populist would-be presidential candidate to take up. And telling a Clinton to her face on TV that she should have been fired for negligence, which is true, is a smart, splashy way to do it. It’s a dual critique, superficially a reprimand to Obama’s secretary of state but more broadly an indictment of how Washington tends to do business. I’ve always assumed there’s no way he’ll leapfrog Rubio and Ryan as a frontrunner among grassroots conservatives in 2016 but it’s getting harder to believe that every day.

And now that he’s demanded accountability from the most popular Democrat pol in America, he must pay:

One other note. This is not an exchange I would have expected Ron Paul to have with Hillary, not because he’s in any way comfortable with unaccountability in Washington but because his priorities lie elsewhere. You can imagine him grilling her about why the CIA is in Libya in the first place and what the root causes of the assault on the consulate might be. Not Rand; his showcase moment here has more to do with protecting Americans who are already in the field. A lot of what he’s up to lately has to do with distinguishing his brand from his father’s, the trip to Israel being the most conspicuous example. This is another.

The only thing standing between Hillary and the White House in 2016 is Duval Patrick.

The Republican party has no sack! They are afraid of the media, blacks, Hispanics, women, you name it. They should replace the elephant with the mouse as their party symbol. If they couldn’t bring this old biddie down on this then she skates into the WH.

Hopefully, the divorce of the states happens while we are still relatively young. The political system in this country is on life support and the special interest groups are standing over it with the cord to the plug in one hand and a pillow in the other.

Among the common misconceptions among the GOP crowd in congress is the issue of correspondence being as a matter of protocol adressed to the secretary. They assume Hillary has to read all State correspondence, in person and respond to all of them herself, all 1+ million a year.

Oh Terry, did you ask this question of your Lord and Savior when he was running? I thought half a term in Congress was more than enough experience for President these days. And… Rand hasn’t announced running, only questioning – and we certainly know how little experience and knowledge the Dems need on their resume before throwing stones at everyone around them.

It is NOT unreasonable to expect that a COMPETENT State Dept. would make SURE the Secretary receives and reads (and hopefully responds to) URGENT requests for security.
At least within a R State Dept that would be expected. But not THIS one ?

pambi on January 23, 2013 at 5:41 PM

Hillary came in with one talking point and she followed through with it during most of the day.
It goes like this:We don’t ever want anything like this to happen again.
This was created months ago and the rats have stuck with it pretty good.
Its slick. Really smart politics.
It puts Benghazi in the rear view mirror instead of still being investigated.
Its an axelrod/jarrett dream job for sure.
It worked.
Many of our side couldn’t handle the five minute time rule. They asked a zillion questions which allowed her to just filibuster and answer anything she wanted.
Only the guy from Calif. Dana Rohrbacker was on the ball. He should have had 15 minutes he could have made her scream in pain.
Saddest thing of all is that many bloggers, especially here, seem smarter, more politically astute, than the guys who were asking all the questions. Sad day for Amerika.

Your earlier observations about Michele Bachmann are good points to bring up regarding this issue of whitewashing the spreading Islamist caliphate under the O foreign policy.

Powerlineblog has two excellent threads about Bachmann that are worth reading/bookmarking. She was under a concerted attack from the Left for her tireless efforts to ask the right questions. McCain is a clueless idiot for joining that attack and for not understanding real foreign policy issues. He is a dupe.

Mike Rogers (R-Mich.), the chairman of the Intelligence Committee, was described by several sources as incredibly angry when he heard of the incident. Rep. Rand’s it. Forget Marco and especially Ryan. Ryan’s national populism has passed. He needs an Act Two.

The harder Rand fights, the more national heat he will draw, which is exactly what Team Barry wants to avoid.

0 wants to focus on the old guard – Boehner, McConnel, McCain, Cantor.

They do not want Rand to become the de facto voice, because that signals a harder move towards Libertarianism and away from played-out corporate conservatism.

Also, whichever hit-group goes after Rand, will end up dealing with Ron and his new org.

Palin did a good job criticizing obama over the last 4 years and calling out the GOPe.

However I do think she dropped the ball in not running.

Either way I’ll continue to fight for real conseravatives and I think Rand is the real deal. No way I want Kripsy Kreme or Jeb Bush — what a nightmare that would be.

I will give her that, however, she has not been doing the hard
work ever since she decided not to run. A few candidates here
and there (SarahPac got behind a few conservatives; Ted Cruz in
Texas really benefited by her support and even thanked her for it more than once), a few pointed comments re Obama on Fox and facebook, a few shout outs to Israel, bland comments about the 4th of July, etc. Nothing new and little that is profound.

I think she got lost via the Romney group bashing the Tea Party,
conservatives in general and Palin in particular. However, as
Rand leads by example, it is not about the repub rino leftie like
party; it is about the country. I expected more from her.

Her berries did some shrinkin no matter what the reason.

Allah, you mean to say you did not expect such correct and decent behavior from a politician, perhaps?

Otherwise this is just the sort of thing you SHOULD expect from Rand Paul who has been extremely active on many political fronts (and who is really a Libertarian).

Frankly, I am surprised at your ignorance.

By the way, Rand Paul, way to GD take it to that imposter!

Lady Gaga’s piano bench wore that outfit better.

Michelle’s Romulan costume was tasteless, more suitable for a Halloween party than an affair of state.

Nostradamus wasn’t needed to predict the Lamestream Media support after Hillary’s testimony on Capitol Hill, heaping praises upon her and proclaiming her to be such a great ‘Leader’ for traveling the globe representing the U.S. When pressed to list any real accomplishments as Secretary of State other than racking up air miles, the media is stumped.

At one point, Hillary seemed to be reciting lines from the movie ‘The Holy Grail’ – “It doesn’t matter WHO killed WHO…”! That’s right, Hillary – Everyone should just FORGET:
o The 2 previous terror attacks on the Libyan Compound/Stevens
o Stevens Warnings about the Al Qaeda flag flying over new Libyan govt buildings, that 10 new terrorist training camps had been started up, & that THEY COULD NOT SURVIVE A 3RD TERRORIST AATCK…
o That the CIA sent cables AT THE START OF THE ATTACK ON 9/11/12 directly to the White House ‘War room’ & the State Department INFORMING THEM THIS ATTACK WAS A TERRORIST ATTACK…
o That it has been proven that those CIA cables were modified directly from within this administration (White House)/her State Department deleting every reference to a ‘terrorist attack’…
O That HILLARY, OBAMA, & key persons in this Leadership PURPOSELY LIED TO THE AMERICAN PEOPLE FOR MONTHS…
o That although Hillary identified Scape Goats, they were NEVER TRUELY PUNISHED – they were instead given a continuing ‘paid vacation’…
o That although she once again accepted responsibility for the complete FAILURE of the State Department to protect our Embassies/Embassadors, & getting 4 Americans killed, neither her or anyone else has embraced ‘ACCOUNTABILITY’!

Hillary ‘mock’ wept, talking about how she met the flag-draped coffins when they came home & hugged the family members…and she is to be APPLAUDED for her EMOTION?!
o Had she NOT DENIED 4 REQUESTS FOR ADDITIONAL SECURITY, 2 AFTER (PREVIOUS) TERROR ATTACKS – Had she TAKEN SERIOUSLY the more than EVIDENT (2 previous terror attacks) growing TERRORIST THREAT in Benghazi, Had she PROVIDED ADDITIONAL SECURITY WHEN IT WAS REQUESTED…OR…If they had even taken Stevens/Americans out of Benghazi (after the 2nd TERRORIST ATTACK)….STEVENS & THE OTHER 3 AMERICANS WOULD BE ALIVE, THERE WOULDN’T HAVE BEEN ANY FLAG-DRAPED COFFINS, & THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN NO GRIEVING FAMILIES TO CONSOLE!

Listen to Putin on this. An inane naive foreign policy that deposed the sheriff-governments in the region and installed Islamic loony bins.

And that’s why Hillary deserves to get canned. But she’s just Obama’s caddy. He’s even more arrogant and clueless.

I’d tolerate even the whiny Palinbot spammers here to have that ticket. Unfortunately by 2016 I’m not sure they could do much more than quietly shift resources and military for the coming split.
