In Fact, voting is listed in the constitution under the phrase, “The Times, Places and Manner of holding Elections for Senators and Representatives, shall be prescribed in each State by the Legislature thereof;”

However Gun Rights are listed under the Phrase; “The Right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.”

In Fact, the people only voted for President in 6 States for the first 3 presidential elections, and voting for who the state’s electors would vote for didn’t reach all states until 1820.

So let’s demand the reversal of all voting ID requirements and stand firm against gun control requirements (ID/tracking/cks, etc..)

Anyway, perhaps we should give Taylor a little time to educate himself, and check back in later.

I don’t believe there is any amount of education or pesky facts that would change his answer. These people think differently, on a dominant emotional level based on feeling good about themselves.

If he thinks that a majority of gun owners support sensible regulation regarding background checks and restrictions on fully-automatic weapons, well, he’s right.

Ed, just curious here… Where in that “shall not be infringed” part of the Second Amendment does it allow for banning fully automatic weapons? And what enumerated power of the Constitution gives the federal government the authority to require universal background checks for gun purchases? I can’t find either of those things. The Second Amendment seems pretty darn absolute. “Shall not be infringed” is rather black-and-white, without leaving any room for the federal government to do anything that restricts access to firearms.

Then again, I’m also one of those who doesn’t buy the “incorporation” argument of the Supreme Court and don’t think the Bill of Rights was meant to apply to the states. Therefore, I think states, consistent with their state constitutions, of course, can enact “reasonable” restrictions on firearm ownership, such as background checks.

Regardless of whether you think the Second Amendment applies to the states or not, though, there’s still nothing in there that would justify the federal government playing any role what-so-ever in the regulation of firearms, save for trafficking them into and out of the country.
