It’s come to this: White House releases videos of young kids asking Obama for more gun control

posted at 7:11 pm on January 17, 2013 by Allahpundit

Kevin Williamson on the histrionic presidency:

You may agree 100 percent with the president’s position on gun control, but his stagey histrionics, his endless reliance upon human props, his cheap sloganeering, his emotionally driven hectoring: all of that bespeaks a very deep contempt for his audience, which is the American people. If he really believes that surrounding himself with adorable little tots is a substitute for substantive arguments for well-thought-out policy proposals, he thinks that the people — you people — are a bunch of rubes. Unhappily, 51 percent of the American people are happy to endorse his low view of them. There is something peculiar to political enthusiasts, a phenomenon I observed at both conventions this year: People in political audiences know that they are being manipulated, cynically and professionally — and they enjoy it. Obama’s admirers look up to him because he looks down on them, not in spite of the fact. There is something more at play than the mere admiration of stagecraft…

The magic of theater is that is has the power to overwhelm thought: For a moment, you forget that you are watching actors reciting lines that they have memorized and making scripted movements, and you are taken into the world of the play. Obama’s politics of histrionics — the little children, the Sandra Flukes, the imperial stage dressing — also is conceived with the goal of overwhelming thought. That tells you something about the president and what he stands for. The continued success of this traveling medicine show of a presidency tells you something about the American people.

He wrote that yesterday, not knowing that the White House was hours away from rolling out video of child props actually reciting lines. (It was thoughtful of them to include the P.S. from the little boy in blue about Obama doing his best.) The clips are another example of O being more aggressive in pushing his agenda in his second term, which will be egged on by a media that’s eager to see some fightin’ liberalism in the Oval Office, Josiah-Bartlet-style. I think there’s more to this than just that, though: One of the reasons he’s relying so heavily on kids, I suspect, is because he knows gun control is going nowhere in Congress. Less than 40 percent of the public thinks new laws will stop gun violence; Senate Democrats from red states are already headed for the exits. Obama can’t do much legislatively for his base here but he can, at least, reassure them that they’re morally superior to the opposition and that they, despite their entrenched, passionate support for abortion rights, care about The Children in a way conservatives never will. In fact, I’d bet cash money that there’ll be response ads from conservative groups aping the format of these on other issues that don’t work out as well for Democrats. The national debt is an obvious area to be mined, but it’d be just adorable to see a two- or three-year-old asking “Mistah Pwesident” to discontinue his support for infanticide. For the children. Pwetty pweeze?

The money line here from the little girl in red, summing up liberal ambitions eloquently: “No guns, no guns, no guns, no guns.” Exit question for Chris Christie: While you’re busy grandstanding about that NRA ad for your blue-state audience, any thoughts on Obama’s use of kids to carry his water agenda-wise? I vaguely recall you goofing on teachers’ union stooges who are quick to enlist kids when arguing that pay cuts for public-school teachers will damage their education. Okay to do that sort of thing on an issue where you agree with O?

Democrats believe women are not intelligent enough to make a $10 a month birth control decision on their own.

Democrats believe women are not smart enough to compete for equal opportunity or pay, and often under pay their own women staff members.

Democrats believe blacks are not as intelligent as others and therefore must be kept in poverty.

Democrats believe blacks are not capable of performing at the same level as others, so they implemented affirmative action.

Democrats believe welfare is a lifestyle for minorities because minorities are not intelligent enough to succeed.

Democrats offer welfare to their base to keep them in poverty in exchange for a vote on election day, rather than opportunities for them to succeed on their own.

Democrats believe their female base is incapable of personal responsibility, so they redefine abortion as “women’s reproductive choices.”

Democrats loathe gays, blacks and hispanics as evidenced how they treat gays, blacks and hispanics who step off the democrat plantation.

Democrats support abortion because they see children as competitors for their benefits.

Democrats feign outrage at the deaths of children in a school, when they believe it will help them reach a political agenda, but never talk about the millions of children murdered through abortion.

Democrats want to take guns away from law abiding citizens to reduce deaths in America, but are not willing to give up their SUVs and BMWs which cause even more deaths every year.

Democrats believe Americans are not intelligent enough to make basic decisions in life and therefore feel they must make those decisions for Americans themselves.

Democrats believe their base is so unintelligent, they need second graders to tell them how to think.

And you wonder why normal people think democrats are about as bright as a diamond in a dog’s a$s on a moonlit night?

The mini-moochers were not mentioned in the ad. The school security at their school was. The NRA asked a valid question- why do the liberal elite students of Sidwell Friends get the kind of security the gun-haters refuse to afford those attending public schools.

But let’s get to the real point here as you lie and pretend to be pro-Second Amendment and a member of the NRA. No outrage for the way the White House is using these children as props in Hitler-like propaganda? It seems to me even a dim bulb like you would understand that if the mere mention of the mini-moochers is wrong these White House ads are even more wrong. Effing hypocrite.

Happy Nomad on January 17, 2013 at 7:36 PM

Well, hey…if you don’t like me I couldn’t care any less than I do right now. Just don’t call me a liar…in the six years I’ve been posting comments on HotAir I’ve been nothing but upfront and stand by every single thing I’ve ever said…I haven’t always been correct, and I’ve admitted when I was wrong when I sure as heck realized it. So call me any name you posses in your arsenal…just don’t call me a liar.

The NRA ad didn’t name Obama’s girls, but unless your skull is filled with concrete, the line “Are the President’s kids as important as yours?” pretty much does mention his kids. And the kids of every POTUS have armed security for them.

As for Obama using those kids at that presser…Obama certainly “used” them to help push his agenda, or at least to strengthen it. It’s blatantly using kids as a means to an end and shouldn’t have been done IMHO.

JetBoy on January 17, 2013 at 8:07 PM

I don’t suggest anyone here, regardless of their viewpoint on gun control, takes lightly the harm that came to those kids last week.

Curtiss on January 17, 2013 at 7:57 PM

Katy and Curtiss,

Don’t you see the bigger problem here? It isn’t the children used as props. The internet today is filled with pictures of dictators exploiting children.

The real problem is that we’ve got a whole segment of the nation so much a part of the cult of the rat-eared wonder that they think he personally can “fix” the gun problem by extra-legislative trickery. We have gone from a society intent on the rule of law to a society expecting Santa to solve all the problems without any effort required.

Nothing but propaganda.

Obama is such a worm, always hiding behind women (Clinton, Rice) and children, never taking responsibility for anything that happens in his administration, never convincing, always bullying and belittling. He’s a national embarrassment.

PappyD61 on January 17, 2013 at 7:52 PM

republicans hate children
republicans hate women
republicans hate minorities
republicans hate the poor
republicans hate gays

liberals don’t have any real arguments, just the same narratives over and over. sad, really.

I could give a crap about what any kid says. Pay some taxes, live a little, then come talk to me. The Dems fascination with kids is really rather creepy. Look at any modern day liberal kids show. All of the kids are smart, and the adults are stupid.

gator70 on January 17, 2013 at 8:12 PM

first comment on the thread… captured my thoughts perfectly.

and i don’t say “hate” to a person often. it’s really rare that i do that.

he is ugly and disgusting, for using children the way he is. they’re just kids. they think “guns are bad” and they don’t understand why they’re necessary. the last one, julia, (haha yep, her names’ JULIA!!) kinda understood though: she said guns should only be used when someone else is about to get hurt. she’s right but still, she’s just a kid and does not fully understand the issue.

it’s so easy to simplify the issue into “guns are bad.” and of course kids will believe it. people of all ages believe it. even i used to believe it. yes i used to be FOR more gun control laws. but then i learned more about the issue.

obama is so manipulative and dishonest… i am ashamed that my country has an a-hole like him as president.

Sachiko on January 17, 2013 at 7:52 PM

I’m calling Boehner’s office tomorrow as well as several other elected officials. I’m off Friday so I am looking forward to it.

We have got to make our voices heard and we have got to put pressure on the GOP so that there is no question in their minds that we are out here and we do not like what we are seeing!

Give support to those who deserve it! Make your voices heard!

(202)224-3121
http://www.congress.org/congressorg/issues/basics/

I am also calling the NRA and encouraging them in this fight! I am also going to suggest they make an ad based on Fast and Furious!

Fast and Furious cannot be allowed to go away and be swept under the rug! It was criminal! It was gun violence by this administration and people died!

What does Salinsky say? Find your target? Freeze it? Whatever?

Fast and furious!

The difference between the Democrats and the Republicans is that the GOP will try something for awhile and if it doesn’t catch on, like the flat tax for instance, they let it die.

The Democrats never quit!

If Bush had sold guns to Mexican drugs lords he would be impeached by now. And rightly so!

If you aren’t a liar then you do a pretty good job of getting the facts wrong. There is a difference between the 11 armed guards at Sidwell Friends and the Secret Service detail guarding the mini-moochers. You’re doing what the gun-haters expect you to do and are going around spewing the idea that the NRA said it didn’t want the mini-moochers protected. Tell me how you aren’t lying when you keep repeating a blatant lie.

But, of course, you have no outrage for using those kids as props. Nor, I am sure, you have any problem with the way the gun-haters have politicized the deaths of those students at Sandy Hook. Means to an end and all that, right? Can’t make an omelet without breaking some eggs, right? But God forbid an ad uses the word “The President’s children’s school” without people like you calling for somebody to go to jail for such an offensive ad!

Gloves are off. Time to take the gun-haters, anti-Constitutionalists actually, down. Because what you all are engaging in is not respectful disagreement about the Second Amendment but an outright propaganda war devoid of facts, integrity, honesty, or common sense.

Yeah, that’s the point. They want one rule for themselves and another for the serfs and pointing that hypocrisy out was the entire point of the ad. They are perfectly fine with guns in schools as long as it’s their children being protected and the school itself has armed guards. OK, as long as it’s the elites children being protected. Not OK, if it’s the children of lesser folks.

The NRA’s mistake is that it zeroed in on Obama’s kids. Sure, they get SS protection. Everyone expects that; everyone wants that.

But as I understand it, the school they attend has as many as 11 armed personnel at the school–separate and apart from the SS protection provided to the Obama kids. After all, David Gregory’s kids need to be protected from crackpots like their father who illegally possess large-capacity magazines in DC.

BuckeyeSam on January 17, 2013 at 8:28 PM

I don’t think it was a mistake at all in pointing out that Sidwell Friends has armed guards. They were there even when Chelsea Clinton or the mini-moochers were not. Are the President’s brats more important than your children? More important than the 20 innocent (mostly white) children killed in an affluent CT town? Why is there one standard for safety at a private school for liberal elites and another for the child forced to attend a DC public school further down Wisconsin Ave?

Happy Nomad on January 17, 2013 at 8:40 PM

There is so much wrong in that comment I don’t know where to start…

Sidwell’s own armed security isn’t relevant to anything we’re talking about here…it’s a private school with children of some high-profile people. The Secret Service detail are there specifically for the president’s kids.

But, of course, you have no outrage for using those kids as props.

Can you read? I just said I disproved of Obama using those kids like he did.

Nor, I am sure, you have any problem with the way the gun-haters have politicized the deaths of those students at Sandy Hook.

Where are you coming up with that total load of bs…wishful thinking on your part?

BuckeyeSam on January 17, 2013 at 8:28 PM

It’s not a mistake. The ad is effective and right on! That’s why they hate it and are attacking it!
if the ad wasn’t effective they wouldn’t care… it’s effective, truthful and people can understand it that is why they are attacking it!

The NRA wasn’t attacking Obama’s kids… the ad points out that Obama is attacking our kids! Our children must go to school unprotected and defenseless while his kids have the best protection available!

It’s called hypocrisy! Elitism!

Nobody wants to deny any President or his family protection! The ad doesn’t want to deny the president nor his family one ounce of protection! Every President should have protection!
In fact.. the President just signed a law giving himself SS protection for the rest of his life. You know what.. I support that! I was actually horrified when I read that Presidents didn’t get SS protection all their lives. I thought they did.

But that’s not what the ad is about… it’s not about Obama’s kids. It’s about our kids and how he wants our children to be defensiveness!

We can’t have guns while he can? that is not freedom! That is not liberty! That is tyranny!

I love my children as much as he loves his! You don’t want an armed cop or teacher in the school but you’ll call one as soon as a shooting happens!? Does that make any sense at all?

Sidwell’s own armed security isn’t relevant to anything we’re talking about here…it’s a private school with children of some high-profile people. The Secret Service detail are there specifically for the president’s kids.

JetBoy on January 17, 2013 at 8:41 PM

Exactly the point. Why are you conflating the facts into the idea the NRA wants the mini-moochers not to have a SS detail? By that I mean Secret Service and not Schutzstaffel. Given the Hilter like propaganda I don’t want you any more confused than you have been.
But more importantly, why did your side balk when the idea of armed security at schools was offered up by the NRA?

Seriously, if you aren’t a liar then Tommy Flanagan really was dating Morgan Fairchild.

Happy Nomad on January 17, 2013 at 9:05 PM

So kids that go to public schools have no right to be safe ?
BTW, aren’t the Obamas supposed to be just ordinary regular Americans who shop at Target ? Unlike those super rich heartless cruel Romneys ?

First…what is “my side”? I have never said I was for any stricter gun control…in fact, I support the 2nd Ammendment 100%. I’m an NRA member and gun owner for cripes sake. My father was a cop and I learned how to shoot and clean various firearms when I was a young kid.

So I ask again, what’s “my side” you’re referring to?

Not to mention, what’s with the “mini moochers” thing? I swear, grow up.

A caller on Rush Limbaugh today said it’s odd he hasn’t gotten any letters from kids whose homes have been foreclosed because their parent(s) can’t find a job. I also heard that these letters were school projects, don’t know if it’s true, but I do know children have very little idea how to mail a letter these days.

JetBoy on January 17, 2013 at 9:07 PM

Both.
Hussein and his minions are babbling that Hussein’s gun-control fatwas will prevent any school shooting from happening , EVER AGAIN.
These propagandists are also telling us to think that armed guards at schools won’t stop any school shootings.
So the people who have armed security around themselves , and their kids at school , paid by me the taxpayer,
are making sure that me and my kids never get to have the same security which I’m prepared to do myself .

JetBoy on January 17, 2013 at 9:07 PM

Good question because your rat-eared idol made the issues one and the same. Your pals at MSNBC were appalled that the NRA even suggested the idea that, since it was impossible from ensuring what happened at Sandy Hook would never happen again with more restrictions, the solution had to be with security.

Bottom line, gun control and school security have been linked issues ever since your side were high-fiving one another over the death toll at Sandy Hook and dusting off plans to get guns out of the hands of lawful citizens.

Hitler had his Kristallnacht to start getting rid of Jews. Obama may have not engineered Sandy Hook but he’s using it in an attempt to get rid of private ownership of firearms no matter what rights we have enjoyed for over two centuries. Hitler had his Sturmabteilung. Obama has people like you.

That makes sense. I was shocked to find out my eight-year-old niece, a bright girl, couldn’t tell time on an analog clock. I’m quite sure her first reaction would not be to write a letter.

For that matter. Congress doesn’t really do letters anymore. Ever since the anthrax attacks, mail is discouraged. Hard to imagine it is different at the White House. It is some kind of miracle that these letters bubbled to the top of the septic tank so quickly.

And the armed security of the Secret Service for the president’s children we both pay taxes for is standard protection! They’re the kids of the president, whether we voted for him or not. It’s STANDARD.

I never thought, in elementary school, watching the flag wave in the breeze, that I would ever hate the president as much as I hate the disgrace in the White House.

The Democrat Party, through a love of lies, intolerance and blind self-absorption, has abetted the creation of the first American Dictator.

This country won’t be able to withstand four more years of this. Something’s going to blow out. It’s like watching a runaway boiler, hissing from all bolts, relief valve screaming, and the engineers running for the exits.

Either 0bama will be broken, or America will be broken, before all is said and done. And he hasn’t even taken the oath yet for his second term.

I can’t forgive him for that. He is dead wrong, is attacking the Constitution, and a complete and total liar about what the NRA ad said. He has doubled down on his lies countless times.

3) After this, my view is Christie is good for NJ, but we can forget him for 1014.
