New NRA ad: Let’s redistribute school security

posted at 8:01 am on January 16, 2013 by Ed Morrissey

The NRA seems to have adopted a new strategy in their efforts to push back gun control: If you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em.  Oh, they’re not falling in line with gun bans and magazine limits — they’re just adopting Barack Obama’s playbook in arguing against them.  Via Buzzfeed, here’s a new 30-second ad painting Obama as “just another elitist hypocrite” for disdaining the NRA’s proposal to subsidize armed guards in schools while send his own children to a school that has armed security on site.  Why should the rich and powerful be the only families with armed security guards for their children?  Redistribute the security!

You have to admire the strategy, even if you may be skeptical of the proposal.  These types of events are rare to the point where most armed guards won’t ever see anything close to a Newtown over the course of their lifetimes, and school security isn’t a federal issue; it’s local, and schools can add guards now, if they want them.  This is more of a pushback against the scorn heaped on the NRA for proposing the idea in the wake of Sandy Hook, even though the same scorn-heapers backed Bill Clinton’s COPS program, which subsidized armed guards in schools.  That blatant hypocrisy had the White House at least belatedly considering the NRA’s proposal as one part of their response.

The NRA must be doing something right in public relations, by the way.  Either that, or the nation’s best gunseller is even better than we imagined:

A day before President Barack Obama is scheduled to release Vice President Joe Biden’s recommendations to curb gun violence in the United States, the National Rifle Association told U.S. News and World Report that they have seen membership grow by 250,000 in the month since the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in Newtown, Connecticut.

Politico reported membership had grown by more than 100,000 five days ago. The NRA says that when Politico reported the story, membership was close to 200,000, but the number has drastically grown in just five days. The association now has over 4.25 million members, but the NRA says that number is always fluctuating as memberships expire and new members join.

“I would say that every time President Obama opens his mouth and Sen. [Dianne] Feinstein opens her mouth and they talk about gun bans and restricting the rights of law abiding Americans, people pay attention to that and sign up,” says Andrew Arulanandam, the NRA’s public affairs director.

Yes, I think people are paying very close attention these days to Washington and the gun grabbers.

Lets pull the armed guards from Sidwell Friends and get rid of the Secret Service detail around the Obama brats. Not only would the filthy rat-eared bastard and his grifter wife object but so would the liberal elite of DC who also send their kids to the same school as the selfish mini-moochers. Including David Gregory’s kids.

Yet these are the same people out there standing on 20 tiny caskets and high-fiving each other that a man with mental problems was able to kill so many children at a time when the administration could exploit the issue to go out after the Second Amendment and the citizenry’s ability to fight back the tyranny of government.

Happy Nomad on January 16, 2013 at 8:09 AM

I’m not impressed with the ad’s quality – an organization of NRA’s magnitude could definitely do better – but the message is good. Now, I want to hear Republican voices demanding that the school where O-brats study is made a gun-free zone, and branding Obama a hypocrite for refusal to comply. After all, aren’t Secret Service guys deadly enough with their hands and feet?

I caught this from a reporter on DKtv late last night as a two reporters were discussing “America’s facination with guns”. The reporter in DC was telling the reporter in Berlin that the “few” Americans who want the right to have guns is denying the “great number” of Americans who now can’t send their kids to school.

Where do these people come up with this stuff?

I’m perfectly happy with the idea that the mini-moochers should be able to fend for themselves. Every schoolchild in DC not fortunate enough to attend Sidwell Friends is exposed to illegal weapons just walking to school- and some of them have more worth than either Obama brat who are morphing into selfish vain egotists just like their parents.

This is what WE need to do on every level. The other side is the enemy and we need to treat him as such. We need to use every tool in the box against them, and that includes mockery, denigration, and even exaggeration and lies if the situation warrants it (they do it to us). We need to understand this is a street brawl. Thanks NRA for showing us the way.

We need to turn Obama into a joke 2nd term the same way they did it to GWB. We need to destroy their entire brand.

Unless you want a Hello Kitty AR15 in pink…seriously, gun sales and back orders for weapons have swamped the system.

What is truly disgusting is the White House using kids to get yet another message across. Having kids around Obama to push the anti-gun message, or releasing “letters” from kids as part of “it is for the children” garbage message to abrogate the Second Amendment.

IF Obama truly cared about gun violence, he’d have spent the entire time of his presidency cleaning up Chicago. Remember Chicago, where Obama was the best Community Organizer since Jesus Christ…remember from campaign 2008? That Chicago. Cleaning it up, along with ethnic urban murder hotspots…instead of pandering to gangsta rappers and crews at the White House, trying to re-live his younger days of being cool and stuff…choomin’ with the crew and all that.

Yep, Obama, seems you are part of the problem.

In right-wing delusions, Obama’s gun control plan is monarchy
January 16, 2013, 5:00 a.m.
**************************

Even before President Obama announced his proposed gun control measures, right-wing paranoids and Republican members of Congress were raving about impeachment, incipient monarchy and civil war.

Obama’s proposal is expected to include a call for banning military-style assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, as well as strengthening the background check system for gun buyers. While Congress would have to approve those major steps, he may also lay out 19 actions he can take by executive order, such as mandating that federal agencies gather data on gun safety.

In the wake of the schoolroom massacre in Newtown, Conn., and many other brutal gun-related tragedies in recent months, ideas for dealing with school safety and mental illness are also said to be on Obama’s list. But most of the attention will be directed at his gun control plan, and much of it will be hotheaded and shrill.

The usual gun rights lunatics are preemptively saying it may be necessary to take up arms to stop the government from confiscating everyone’s guns. Rabid rocker Ted Nugent has declared Obama’s proposals “psychotic” and said putting Vice President Joe Biden and Atty. Gen. Eric Holder in charge of the task force to come up with gun legislation is comparable to “hiring Jeffrey Dahmer to tell us how to take care of our children.”

painting Obama as “just another elitist hypocrite” for disdaining the NRA’s proposal to subsidize armed guards in schools while send his own children to a school that has armed security on site.

It’s not just that. Obama and his wife and kids are protected 24/7 by armed guards (Secret Service), at significant taxpayer expense. Just last week, Obama signed a law repealing a 1990′s law that had limited SS protection for ex-presidents to the first 10 years after they leave office.

Obama the multimillionaire, who like his buddy Bill Clinton will become even richer once he gets his multi-million-dollar, post-presidency book deal and starts his multi-million-dollar post-presidency speaking tours, will have taxpayers picking up the bill for his and his wife’s lifetime SS protection. (This is in addition to the lifetime pension taxpayers will also be providing the Obamas, as well as the lifetime payments for Obama’s ex-presidential “office” expenses).

Also, it was reported a couple of days ago that Obama’s empty house in Chicago has its very own taxpayer-paid Secret Service agent providing 24/7 security for Obama’s stuff. Anybody think the guard at Obama’s Chicago house doesn’t have a gun?

While he’s driving our economy into bankruptcy, Obama is screwing us over in every possible way. “Hypocrisy” doesn’t even begin to do justice to what this crook is getting away with.

Posing as “Citizens Against Senseless Violence,” Project Veritas members visited the homes of journalists working for Westchester Journal News, MSNBC, and the Star-Ledger. They also visited the home of Eric Holder. None would take signs that say “THIS HOME IS PROUDLY GUN FREE.”

Since these reporters and editors did not consider it a violation of the privacy and safety of others to reveal which homes have guns and which homes don’t, Project Veritas wented to see which of them would be willing to put a sign up publicly declaring their homes to be gun-free zones. While they didn’t find any members of the media with the strength of their convictions, they did find quite a few guns, and some good explanations for why they might be necessary….. Just as Obama and his minions are using the children standing up there on the podium today, they are also using the deaths of those sweet, innocent children, murdered by a madman in Newtown, Connecticut, as an opportunity to take away the guns of innocent, law-abiding Americans. Meanwhile, the MSM cheerleaders will spend the day trying to sell Americans on what a great speech their Dear Leader just gave.

You have to admire the strategy, even if you may be skeptical of the proposal.

… and the ad says that Obama is skeptical about putting armed guards in schools.

Okay, maybe this is semantics, but LaPierre was roundly ridiculed for this notion.

Yet Bill Clinton in the 90′s – AND OBAMA, AS QUOTED YESTERDAY – *want* to put *more* “police” in schools. The federal government already spends money to achieve this.

Dems are not skeptical of it – unless when a conservative suggests it, perhaps – they just want *union* people doing it, on federal tax dollars.

But the IDEA is not different, and it needs to be pointed out repeatedly and every time it comes up that NRA/LaPierre are not “insane” for suggesting such a thing if Clinton/Obama are not also “insane” for the same reason.

And Obama must be racist…since it took the deaths of a dozen white kids for Obama to get all up there in indignation, while in his own hometown (Chicago, not Mombasa) dozens and dozens of young people are killed or maimed each week from ethnic-on-ethnic gun violence.

Is there any good reason to listen to a single thing this Obama guy has to say, other than Obama telling us that he is the president?

Bishop on January 16, 2013 at 8:42 AM

there’s a reason we don’t put a bulletproof vest on every child in America. it’s overkill.

saying that some children deserve protection and others don’t is not at all outrageous. just replace ‘children’ with ‘people’. do you deserve the same protection as the president?

sesquipedalian on January 16, 2013 at 8:45 AM

petefrt on January 16, 2013 at 8:43 AM

Logic and common sense do not play well among our elite betters in the liberal mainstream, ya know.

coldwarrior on January 16, 2013 at 8:45 AM

Yes, I think people are paying very close attention these days to Washington and the gun grabbers.

Not enough, I’d say. When we start seeing demonstrations in font of State Capitals, then I’ll believe it.

Cleombrotus on January 16, 2013 at 8:45 AM

they are more likely to be targeted than yours.

sesquipedalian on January 16, 2013 at 8:37 AM

What a stupid statement. Typical of non-thinking useful idiots.

darwin on January 16, 2013 at 8:45 AM

it’s statistics, you wouldn’t understand.

sesquipedalian on January 16, 2013 at 8:42 AM

Statistics??

Statistics show that more kids will die in the coming years..
And they won’t be the presidents kids..

Electrongod on January 16, 2013 at 8:45 AM

Sesqui can’t help it. Like all liberal morons (including their Aff*rmative Act*on-credentialed Dear Leader), she can’t do math above a grade-school level.

AZCoyote on January 16, 2013 at 8:35 AM

Know what offends me most about this?

That liberals are grandstanding on a soapbox made of 20 little caskets, and on six more of adults who were heroes. If anything needed to be said by the half-black in our White House, is should be, “I am awarding the Presidential Medal of Freedom to every one of the lost adults at Sandy Hook.” And, really, nothing more.

I’m really tired of liberal ghouls feasting on the dead. The day Sandy Hook happened, the trolls spared us no mercy as we grieved and tried making sense of the horror. Thirty minutes after the tragedy, some liberal reporter ghoul tweeted a sarcastic comment about all those lost babies.

Never, not long as I live, will I forgive liberals for what they did that day.

And, if the half-black in our White House makes his ‘announcement’ in front of children, using them as props, he’s no better. Somehow, some way, I will find more contempt for him than I do now. And I hope the prick lives long to suffer the personal agony of being scum after having the rare chance to be a truly great man.

Liam on January 16, 2013 at 8:47 AM

Think about what you just said. Sounds to me like an admission that gun-free zones are not safe.

petefrt on January 16, 2013 at 8:43 AM

armed guards in schools that are the most likely targets for attention-seeking madmen are a necessary evil.

sesquipedalian on January 16, 2013 at 8:45 AM

What does “deserve” have to do with it? It’s the principle. Guns are useful for the very reason that the President has armed SECURITY.

Why is the principle valid for humbug not for me?

Cleombrotus on January 16, 2013 at 8:49 AM

No, liberal. My white teenage granddaughter is very much more a target in the mostly-black public school she attends.

sesquipedalian on January 16, 2013 at 8:42 AM

Since 1950, all mass murders of three or more, except the shooting including former Rep. Gabrielle Gifford, occurred in a “gun free zone.”

The president and David Gregory’s children are not in a “gun free” zone. It’s understandable that they are safer than “our” children.

Fallon on January 16, 2013 at 8:51 AM

How about we stop with the talk about armed guards, more programs and bloated agencies, and get back to securing the rights of individuals in this country? How about discussing the futility of gun-free zones, and discuss giving teachers the right to choose to carry in the schools if they wish. Why is it so difficult to get back to basics?

it’s not okay. hence gun control.

the president’s daughters are protected by not a hapless moron with a pistol, who couldn’t stop the crazies anyway, but at least a dozen highly-trained professionals. you can’t do that in every school even if it were desirable.

Then how did Reagan get shot?

Liam on January 16, 2013 at 8:56 AM

The Zero to announce gun control while surrounded by kids…and while under protection of plain-clothes Secret Service, uniformed Secret Service, Marine helicopters, and radar enforcing a no-fly zone.

Presidents don’t “deserve” it either. They got along just fine for over 150 years without it. Plus, I would think with their 400k+ salary, they could afford to pay to for bodyguards themselves.
