Fiscal discipline, frugality, whatever, is a state of mind. It is being able to think, say, and do, “we should only go this far because the good times may not always last and we still need to pay for things when the good times end”. At least the inability of States to coin money helps serve as a check on unrestricted spending.

There is a real lack of feedback. If politicans would only get paid if the government (any government) had a positive bank balance, couldn’t borrow for current expense, and they got paid after all other current expenses were paid off, they might be more likely to be cautious about spending because I don’t think many of them would want to be politicians if they (and maybe their staffs though the staffs get paid before them) could only get pay and benefits if the government was in the black on current expenses.

Heh. If Obama pushes through gun control legislation the way he pushed through healthcare, we might be calling Rick Perry “Mr. President” after all. One way or another. Double Heh.

Perhaps the ability to Govern as opposed to electability….will become a desirable attribute again after the Lunacy of Obama & his cronies.

This legislative session will be an interesting one….But I hope Texas gets another credit upgrade & Gov. Perry holds fast so that the legislature doesn’t spend all the money.

We can and we must build back better — with investment in sustainable infrastructure, not the kind of carbon-intensive development that helped drive this problem in the first place…

There are so many energy producing states we should get together and flip the bird at the federal government and leave.

For all you stupid blue staters who keep your corrupt legislatures in office should feel the real pain of your electricty cut off and/or energy prices go through the roof, that’s if you have one.

My wife starts new job in Houston area in two weeks, while the kids and me head down at end of the school year. Will be tough for her to be away from kids for 6 months, but says she won’t miss the Iowa winters.

And no, have never voted blue.

Question: So, as new residents of Texas, do you give us our firearms at the state line, or do “y’all” mail them to us??!! ;-)

There are some advantages to living away from the big cities. We see more Obama stickers after the election than before (imagine that!), but not too many. You won’t find many liberal state license plates here either.

Glad the move is working out for you. I have been working on convincing my wife to leave the Golden State for greener pastures elsewhere, and so far, Grant’s Pass, OR and Colorado Springs are her preferred choices. Although her younger brother and his wife recently relocated to Allen, TX and loves it there, she shows no inclination to move to the Lone Star State. At least for now.

Maybe Dewhurst got some religion after Cruz showed what Texans want and will lead from the right this time. Two years ago was a letdown in the end.

(Did I mention they only meet for 140 days every two years? This is when we worry)
