I've noticed, many of the comments are calling for legislative action, i.e. passing budgets. Just for the sake of conversation, does anyone know WHY the Democrats haven't passed a budget, in the Senate, in 4 years?

I wonder why the national press is not telling the public what the Democrats get, if they DON'T pass a budget? You'd think they would really be giving Reid and company a hard time, yet no one has done this. Why?

I'll give you a hint, spending has increased and the debt has gone up, all while there have been no budgets. Now, if we really want to do something about how this government runs, perhaps we need to look at how that happened and put a stop to that, then the rest will be a lot easier.

I think we are headed for a full blown constitutional crisis. And I mean the real thing, as the ideas being floated are all stupid.

$1 trillion dollar coins?

Insane. Just watch inflation and interest rates skyrocket as all the bond buyers realize the US Federal Government is run by delusional madmen. Result: America's credit is ruined, thus necessitating either massive tax increases, or massive elimination of major government programs.

Obama issues bonds on his own authority? ie the "Constitutional Solution"

Morons. Who is going to buy a bond of doubtful legality, that may or may not being honored depending upon which political party controls power? Result: America's credit is ruined, thus necessitating either massive tax increases, or massive elimination of major government programs.

Obama defaults by "delaying" bond payments. A default no matter how you slice it. Result: America's credit is ruined, thus necessitating either massive tax increases, or massive elimination of major government programs.

Do you really think Americans will care who is to blame if the above happens? Democrats will get hammered too.

The frustrating thing is that there is an obvious solution for Obama.

If the debt limit is not raised then Obama as the executive must determine how to spend the incoming revenue. First pay the interest on the debt. Now we have not defaulted. Then start paying the most important thing in the budget until we run out of money. You know, the thing that every single person in America does when dealing with their own budgets.

And Obama gets to decide what to cut. So bye bye Defense spending. And since Obama is a beanball thrower you know he'd be sure to cut any and all spending to Republican areas. Sorry Texas, you don't get any Medicare money this year.

Sure it's abusive of authority and will cause a crisis, but not nearly as bad as any of those insanely moronic solutions up above. Yet people keep pushing for those solutions because they are too attached to unlimited government spending.

<blockquote>Two hours later all you have is an argument of three branches. Typical Saul Alinsky lose the argument and attack and nit pick.

Guess you agree that Establishment thinking always loses. Not a single mention of when Establishment thinking ever won an election. Of course that is unfair because you would have to go way back to Nixon and he hardly won the House.

House and Senate the two branches of the Legislative. The President the other elected branch of Government. The judiciary is not elected. The House and Senate are very much two branches. No party can win the Judiciary Branch.

The idea is that Americans of conservative ideals are to move to New Hampshire, gather in communities, run for office, and work to drive the state toward libertarianism and conservatism. It is called the “Free State Project” and adherents are called “Free Staters.”

These Free Staters figure that the state’s motto, “Live Free or Die,” should really mean something and it is these citizens whose freedoms legislator Chase wants to oppress.

In her December 21 post, Chase wrote that, “Free Staters are the single biggest threat the state is facing today.”

“In the opinion of this Democrat, Free Staters are the single biggest threat the state is facing today. There is, legally, nothing we can do to prevent them from moving here to take over the state, which is their openly stated goal. In this country you can move anywhere you choose and they have that same right. <strong>What we can do is to make the environment here so unwelcoming that some will choose not to come, and some may actually leave. One way is to pass measures that will restrict the ‘freedoms’ that they think they will find here.</strong>"</em></blockquote>

Contraction should be occuring by March regardless. 2% away from the market society and toward federal governance. Then the health-insurance premiums increase, an additional $20-$100 per week transferred from where it would have gone, into the insurance pile.

This will have the same result as high gasoline prices; whereby "the pie" has it's slices adjusted. The health-care sector will increase, but the rest of the economies will suffer from the shift.

I expect a near zero first-quarter, possibly negative. It's unfortunate this "debate" won't be in April instead. If adjustments aren't made, there may very well be a recession, by definition.

here's a decent read:

I'd like to see what constitutes "the traditional political meaning of three branches House, Senate and President."

A history book? NYT style guide? MSM common usage?

Help me out here.

BTW, its tradition here at HA to rake those who continue to argue a point that has been proven to be wrong over the coals.

<blockquote>The new strategy seems to be one of demanding what you want and daring the GOP to not go along with it, trusting that the story will be spun well enough in the press that the media will dutifully predict that Republicans will be blamed if a worst case scenario comes to pass.</blockquote>New?

The media are the referees, and the game is fixed. Obama knows this, and will continue to take full advantage.

As we watch football this weekend, imagine how impossible it would be for one of the teams to win if breathing constitued a "false start" or "off sides" while the other team could move all they wanted prior to the snap.

I think that's a pretty good analogy for where we are today.
