Apparently there are people still stuck in the 80′s, who actually pay for TV, 99% of which they’d never watch.

Oh well. Until they figure out there’s a whole world of TV available on the internet (which Al Gore took the initiative in creating btw) I guess we’ll have to continue reading stories dealing with the drama of which channels of crap are available and which are not, all for the steal of $80+ per month.

But whatever a cable system was paying Current, it was probably too much, since hardly anyone was watching. And if Al Jazeera is giving its programming away for free online, there’s no incentive for Time Warner to pay per-subscriber fees for that.

If AJ were willing to give Time Warner its programming for free, or even pay Time Warner to carry their channel (like a home shopping channel might do), I’m sure they could get back on the cable system in no time.

Gore’s Ox Gets Gored
In a fact sheet hailing the fiscal-cliff deal’s massive tax increases on income over $400,000, the White House declared: “This means millionaires and billionaires will pay their fair share to reduce the deficit through a combination of permanent tax rate increases and reduced tax benefits.”

That’s bad news for Al Gore, who just sold his failed Current TV network to Al Jazeera. Not that he wanted to pay his fair share, as the New York Times’s Media Decoder blog explains:

Al Jazeera did not disclose the purchase price, but people with direct knowledge of the deal pegged it at around $500 million, indicating a $100 million payout for Mr. Gore, who owned 20 percent of Current. Mr. Gore and his partners were eager to complete the deal by Dec. 31, lest it be subject to higher tax rates that took effect on Jan. 1, according to several people who insisted on anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly. But the deal was not signed until Wednesday.
Oh, and Al Jazeera is based in Qatar, which means Al Gore, the scourge of global warming, is almost certainly lining his pockets with fossil-fuel profits.
