Peter King may be leaving the GOP because of failure to vote on Sandy aid bill or something; Update: Christie rips Boehner, House GOP at presser

posted at 1:51 pm on January 2, 2013 by Allahpundit

Fun fact: By some estimates, roughly half of the $60 billion aid bill that passed the Senate consists of expenditures unrelated to Sandy relief, i.e. pork. Had the House GOP amended the fiscal cliff bill last night to include $300 billion in spending cuts over 10 years, the amount of pork alone in the Sandy bill would have wiped out this year’s cuts in one fell swoop. That’s how meaningless the fiscal cliff negotiations were.

Rest assured, a relief bill will pass soon — maybe tomorrow, now that the screeching among tri-state congressmen has earned them an audience with Boehner this afternoon. King knows that, as does Chris Christie, who’s called a presser for later today. What’s going to change on the ground in New York and New Jersey between now and the next few days, when the bill is safely on Obama’s desk for signing? Not a thing, but it’s a fine opportunity for grandstanding by blue-state Republicans eager to seize an opportunity to distance themselves from the party’s brand while it’s at low tide. In fairness to them, the politics of the bill being pulled last night are awfully tawdry and self-destructive. But even so, I’m curious: How much unrelated spending would this bill need to be larded up with before fiscal warrior Chris Christie decided it needed a few more days of deliberation and amendment? King goes so far here as to urge New Yorkers not to donate to the NRCC because of the delay. Either he’s deathly afraid of losing his seat to an anti-GOP backlash or he’s hysterical. Actually, check that: Whatever his other motives, he’s hysterical.

“I’m saying anyone from New York and New Jersey who contributes one penny to congressional Republicans is out of their minds,” Rep. Peter King, R-N.Y., told Fox News. “What they did last night was put a knife in the back of New Yorkers and New Jerseyans.”…

Meanwhile, King called the decision a “disgrace” and “immoral” — and accused fellow Republicans of turning away from Christie. “What did they do? They knifed him in the back,” he said.

They “knifed him in the back” by not passing a bill that’s … going to pass overwhelmingly within a week? See BuzzFeed for more as NY/NJ pols try to one-up each other on who can affect the most outrageously outrageous outrage for the benefit of their constituents. No one’s compared the bill being pulled to terrorism yet, but give them some time. It’s early.

Update: C’mon, Chris. Say the T-word. You know you want to.

“There is only one group to blame,” Christie said. “The House Majority and John Boehner.”

“Last night, the House Majority failed most basic test of leadership and they did so with callous disregard to the people of my state.”

“It was disappointing and disgusting to watch.”

Update: Now Christie’s whining that he tried to call Boehner last night and couldn’t get him on the phone. Over to you, Dan Foster:

Update: Excellent point. Shouldn’t be forgotten when the Christie 2016 bandwagon starts rolling:

BTW, it’s very interesting to note where the money comes from in each example and, with that in mind, which is seen as inherently good/noble and bad/destructive.

Trickle down concentrates wealth in the hands of the few and waits for them to act. Pork widely distributes funds throughout the nation, much more balanced and doesn’t just help people concentrated in wealthy areas. Its not the huge contradiction you are trying to imply, but then again, none of your copy and paste jobs ever are.

I’ve got a newsflash for Lib. All economies are “trickle down” capitalism, socialism, and communisim.

It’s just that capitalism is really the most efficient system in lifting the most people out of poverty. Period.

Boehner may have more pressing issues to deal with last night than to take calls from a whiny fat slob.

Apparently, the Governor’s mansion was out of Ben and Jerry’s. Krispy Kreme gets cranky when he doesn’t have at least two quarts of Chunky Garcia before he goes to bed.

NY and NJ are anyways waste. As for Peter King – Champ you are on your own. Now get out of the party.

Anybody who voted with Boehner last night can go pound salt, we don’t need them around, and they should expect to be primaried two years from now- that would include Rep King, I guess.

And Krispy showed ow stupid any of us were to ever trust him when he licked Obama’s posterior during his Superstorm Sandy photo op- his name is mud as far as I’m concerned

Hey King,

Screw Off !

Despite what you might think when checking my user name, ever since you emerged an IRA sympathizer and apologist during Thatcher times, I wished you had no connection with the GOP.

Old/busted:

Its almost as if the notion of trickle down economics was the stupidest thing on planet earth or something.

New hotness:

Pork employs people, pork keeps the economy moving, pork in a bill is probably goingi to line someones pockets and they are going to spend money in the economy, what is the problem?

Neat.

“Huge” is your adjective, not mine.

“Contradiction” stands, and even per you.

Well done.

There is no way Fatso is running in 2016. He has burned way too many bridges, even he must see that. I’d be surprised if he was even still a Republican.

To all those HotAirians who insist that electing Blue state Republicans is important, I present you my soon-to-be-former Congressman Peter King…the most useless, obnoxious, grandstaanding a-hole in Congress. First in the parade for for every 9-11 related photo-op. Self-promoting populist rent-a-quote on Fox News, intellectual lightweight the rest of the time. Got redistricted to Caroline McCarthy’s territory…no big difference. Dems can have that jerkoff. They deserve each other. And take that fat Jersey pantload with him.

In case anyone missed the major Christie-Obama Butt Kiss before the election,

According to a senior White House official, Christie spoke to President Barack Obama about the hold-up earlier today. The official said that Obama has also been in close contact with staff of New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

I could almost see Arlen’s spectre

Meanwhile, King called the decision a “disgrace” and “immoral” — and accused fellow Republicans of turning away from Christie. “What did they do? They knifed him in the back,” he said.

Those guys are still bleeding from the shiv Christie used on their Presidential prospects. Christie hasn’t lost a pound. He is rooting somewhere. The guy is so greasy he shines

Nonetheless, King bought himself even more time on the morning shows. He might break a record

entagor on January 3, 2013 at 12:57 AM

The bill has pork for Alaska for s–t sake! Plus gazillions more. Why is no one concerned about that? I say good riddance to King and tubby tuna! Christie is the most opportunistic slob I have ever seen. I supported Scott Brown the first time, but declined to contribute 2nd election, despite his many pleas. I think many more did the same. Without the support of your base you are screwed. Christie may find out. Just my opinion.
