A former lawmaker once told me that you can’t stay in politics without being corrupted. He served his term and didn’t seek re-election. He term-limited himself.

Given what they accomplish, which functionally appears to be nothing, this may not be an unreasonable office to cut. It might be the only cut both sides could agree to. Wouldn’t be first on my list, but at this point, I’ll take any cuts at all.

Want to stop all of this unethical behavior? Stop congress from having so much influence over everything! Congress isn’t going to end lobbying, they love it. They get to act like kingmakers. If we had a tax code that was fair and transparent and a regulatory structure that was limited and well thought out, congress wouldnt be as popular with the rent seekers anymore.

A major sticking point is that half of the Democratic cases involve African American lawmakers.

Hmmm, crime is disproportionately committed by African Americans.

Ethics/legal malfeasance in the House is disproportionately committed by African Americans in the House.

Is it wrong of me to state this observation out loud?

If African-Americans in the House want fewer investigations of their caucus by an ethics committee, they could start by behaving themselves in a manner that violates the law and/or ethics guidelines less frequenty.

Just saying.

The Office of Congressional Ethics was always a paper tiger. It can go without any angst. The real approach, never gonna happen, is stricter ethical laws for Congress Critters and their staffs.
