Totally agree.

I admire both of the Bush Presidents for the way they respected the troops and conducted the war overseas. They also appointed a few good Supreme Court judges.

But what was so frustrating was this other extreme. Fighting the war on terror over seas but allowing our border open here. Handing Ted Kennedy our schools system. Bowing to the Democrats and creating both TSA and Homeland Security. He was opposed to both. But then caved for no reason at all. The public didn’t want TSA or Homeland either. The whole idea of creating another layer of bureaucracy to fix too much bureaucracy was a ridiculous proposal. There was no pressure from the public to do it. He said he was against it and then he just caved. Was it Karl Rove? God only knows.

Bush messed up so badly that almost no Republican won in 2008. Bush destroyed the GOP brand with increased spending. To argue any different is to simply ignore the facts of history. Bush was hated by a majority of Republicans when he finally left office.

Yes Bush gave us Obama and the Democrats a filibuster proof Senate and a large majority in the House. That is what happens when you have a horrible leader as President of a Party.

Bush gave us Obama through his utter failure to pursue conservative principals in his second term while destroying the GOP and losing the Senate and the House. He made the GOP toxic. So toxic we have not recovered but of course he is hardly alone McCain and Romney have kept the GOP toxic even after the Tea Party proved conservative Republicans have majority support in America.

People just don’t seem to get the ideal that freedom is a two edged sword. Freedom to succeed is freedom to fail. Freedom to own guns means there will be an unavoidable amount of gun violence. We should seek to minimize, but we should never think that we can remove those negatives.

42 Republicans, out of 47, voted for this nonsense. Only 3 of those Republicans voted to protect our rights and privacy by voting nay. At one time republicans actually supported individual liberty. We once actually were the part of small government, individual liberty and minding our own business. Now the establishment Republicans aren’t much better than the progressives.

Unfortunately things are getting uglier and uglier because no one wants to acknowledge the truth which is that Islam is today’s Nazism and the greatest threat to the West and the rest of humanity.

The greatest threat to Americans is our own government and the establishment. We need to learn to leave these other people lane, let them destroy each other. I’m tired of seeing American men and women die building them schools or training their police forces. I’m tired of seeing billions upon billions of our tax dollars got to these countries, or another country for that matter. Islam has just been an excuse to build upon the police state.

There is not enough difference between the two parties on government philosophy to matter. The Dimocrats pass laws that are seriously bad, and the GOP elites set them in concrete. The GOP started as a left wing party that birthed progressivism. The Dimocrats swallowed Progressivism and started the slide with Woodrow Wilson getting us involved in a war that did not concern us that resulted in World War 2. FDR gave us the “New Deal” and started the “takers vs Makers” war we still have now, and the country is rapidly losing.

In none of this has the GOP done anything useful to prevent the events that now stand at our door, and will revolutionize the way we live after they cause the country to descend into 3rd world poverty. If you think the GOP will ever be useful in preventing this, you are deluded. They are the ones that set this up back in the 1860s. A leopard can not change his spots, nor will the GOP ever change. That’s been tried, and the elites are invulnerable to the facts. They don’t care.

I voted for Bush twice, but I’m not sure steveangell is wrong. Bush made bad decisions for, I believe, the right reasons. We occupied two Muslim nations, and sacrificed untold American lives, and five years after we’ve finally left nothing will remain to indicate we were there. I believe that in the end it will prove to have been a waste of blood and money, and so far Obama hasn’t did any thing to come close to that foolishness.

Not really. The PATRIOT Act and Department of Homeland Security was a reasonable response to the 9/11 attacks. Only a fool witnesses 3,000 of their people die and then says “Clearly, we must not change policy!”

If it wasn’t for that “destruction of personal liberty” and “invasion of privacy” we never would have gotten Najibullah Zazi.
