Latest word is that Ed Markey is running for the senate seat. If that’s true then he’s pretty much the favorite. (Since he’s an actual politician here with a real track record. IE he actually has some qualifications to be a senator, unlike Lizzy)

This is an open election, not a gubernatorial appointment. So who wants to run a political campaign, serve <2 years, then run again?

It'll probably be one of the congressional delegation.

I’ve said it once I’ll say it again, as long as the democrat can manage to have his staff not assault people on the street on camera I expect the dem to win regardless. It’s Massachusetts. (Yes, Martha Coakley’s staff actually shoved someone down on camera at one point and I think that was a turning point.)

There’s still hope for the segment of the population that considers Hollywood stardom to be sufficient preparation for the Senate: Ashley Judd may yet run for Senator of Kentucky. I’m not sure how it is that the state that sent Rand Paul to the Senate might also make Ashley Judd a candidate for that office. The House of Representatives might be more appropriate for her, anyway. Nancy Pelosi has shown that being a frivolous dingbat is no hindrance to reaching the very top of that part of Congress. John Boehner has also demonstrated this.
