Open thread: Sunday morning talking heads

posted at 8:01 am on December 23, 2012 by Allahpundit

Not one, not two, but three different NRA honchos will hit the Sunday shows this morning as part of the group’s gun-control counteroffensive. The man in the spotlight: David Gregory, who’ll be torn to shreds by the left if he doesn’t channel their id and tear Wayne LaPierre to shreds on their behalf.

There’ll be some navel-gazing about Boehner and Plan B and what it all means too. The line-up via National Journal:

Meet the Press hosts NRA CEO Wayne LaPierre, Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., Sen. Lindsey Graham, S.C., and Rep. Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah,

Face the Nation hosts NRA President David Keene, Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, R-Texas., Sen. Mark Warner, D-Va., and Sen.-designate Tim Scott, R-S.C.,

This Week hosts the NRA’s Asa Hutchinson, Brady Center’s Sarah Brady, Sen. Johnny Isakson, R-Ga., and Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn.

Fox News Sunday hosts Sen. John Barrasso, R-Wyo., and Sen. Kent Conrad, D-N.D.

State of the Union will feature Sen. Joe Lieberman, D-Conn., former Rep. Asa Hutchinson, R-Ark., and Reps. Mick Mulvaney, R-S.C., and Steve LaTourrette, R-Ohio

I thnk it depends on the level of the campaign. At the Senate level or higher few can control their own campaign.
But you are right more conservative candidates who have multi-tasking skills is the answer.

rodguy911 on December 23, 2012 at 10:01 AM

At least exercise more control over messaging and what states the campaign will go to. SP wanted to go to Michigan. She got shot down. Her husband is a union guy, so what could it have hurt? Instead, they didn’t even try. Ya can’t win if ya don’t play.

……………………………………………..
Its truly amazing how the dems can manage and herd their cats from the various groups they have and get victory after victory when little they do is accepted on a nation wide scale.
We need to learn how to manage our campaigns at all levels far better that we do.And the RNC may as well be leaderless.
Millions sitting home amounting to losing an election, according to Rush, is no way to fly.

rodguy911 on December 23, 2012 at 10:52 AM

As the quotations earlier in this opinion demonstrate,
the inherent right of self-defense has been central to the
Second Amendment right. The handgun ban amounts to a
prohibition of an entire class of “arms” that is overwhelmingly
chosen by American society for that lawful purpose.
The prohibition extends, moreover, to the home, where the
need for defense of self, family, and property is most acute.
Under any of the standards of scrutiny that we have applied
to enumerated constitutional rights,27 banning from
the home “the most preferred firearm in the nation to
‘keep’ and use for protection of one’s home and family,”
478 F. 3d, at 400, would fail constitutional muster

Okay, I take that back – Wayne LaPierre did fairly well on Meet the Press.

dugan on December 23, 2012 at 10:49 AM

Up until he started foaming at the corner of his mouth. Blechhhhhhhhhhhh

Mr. Arrogant on December 23, 2012 at 10:57 AM

Wasn’t David Gregory just waving around an AR15 magazine?

Meet the Press’s studios are in DC.

Somebody call the cops- he’s breaking the law:

“DC High Capacity Ammunition Magazines – D.C. Official Code 7-2506.01

(b) No person in the District shall possess, sell, or transfer any large capacity ammunition feeding device regardless of whether the device is attached to a firearm. For the purposes of this subsection, the term large capacity ammunition feeding device means a magazine, belt, drum, feed strip, or similar device that has a capacity of, or that can be readily restored or converted to accept, more than 10 rounds of ammunition. The term large capacity ammunition feeding device shall not include an attached tubular device designed to accept, and capable of operating only with, .22 caliber rimfire ammunition..”

Between ABC’s This Week and Fox News Sunday, it’s clear that there are few good speakers on the side of the 2nd Amendment. Some of these arguments are so easy to refute, but they go unanswered.
………………………………………
The problem with the Sunday shows is that the hosts decide who the guests will be.
DNC Dave NBC–far left
Stuffy Stephy ABC– far left
old bob cbs–lefty, near dead
Chris Wal-ass–DBM wannabe

None of these clowns are going to give us any bloggers or Newt types on a regular basis. Its gonna be all rinos and far leftys usually with the left far outnumbering us.And if we do make any valid points we will quickly be cut off or interrupted.
The decks are always stacked. It’s why we have talk radio, the blogosphere, gotta have some balance to the DBM.

He’s a celebrity so it doesn’t count.

Face the Nation had Ben Afleck talking a stream of insightful genius about foreign policy and Iran and Syria. Who knew he was a “foreign policy expert”?

Most hilarious part.. apparently Schumer didn’t endorse Hagel. Seeing jerky careerists go down always warms my heart. The biggest clue about Hagel’s personality… he was apparently an awful boss.

If our president is against the citizens owning and carrying
guns for self defense, then I suggest he disarm his own security
prior to yapping. And that applies to the rest of our resident
idiots in government.

Amjean on December 23, 2012 at 12:06 PM

How about pro-RKBA spokesmen pointing out that Heller sets a precedent that allows for ‘sensible’ restrictions on both press content and journalists, and then challenging media people to defend their unfettered freedom to endanger the public through irresponsible reporting?

The media shouldn’t be given a free ride by our side.

PersonFromPorlock on December 23, 2012 at 12:09 PM

I wonder why the “free market” hasn’t found a solution to these mental health issues you speak of. After all, it’s a taboo to increase taxes to house these mentally challenged people.

HotAirLib on December 23, 2012 at 8:47 AM

But it’s evidently NOT TABOO to raise taxes to send a couple of billion dollars to the muslim brotherhood in egypt. Nor hundreds of millions of dollars and hundreds of tons of arms to al queda in libya.
Perhaps you’d like to discuss that with your lord and savior, the obamassiah.

Now…SING DAISY FOR US, HAL.

SING IT.

YOU KNOW YOU WANT TO.

Sure, because in societies not run by Conservative, Free Enterprise-embracing, Constitution-loving, gun-toting WASPs this kind of mass murder could just never happen, right?

Andrei Chikatilo

Won’t even get into the other many, many murderers and mass murderers that have thrived for years in societies where gun ownership is strictly controlled.

CPL 310 on December 23, 2012 at 11:44 AM

That’s par for the course for these statist Liberals. They believe they know better, and the law should not have to apply to them. Whether it be Gregory with a banned magazine in DC, or Bloomberg with 24 hour armed guards.

This is not about NewTown, it’s not about the victims – it’s about elitist, statist control and punishing people with opposing beliefs.

Dr. ZhivBlago on December 23, 2012 at 12:35 PM

She has bad case of the Benghazi Flu. Let’s hope it doesn’t develop into lead poisoning, as so often happened in the glory days of Stalin.

petefrt on December 23, 2012 at 12:58 PM

The gun laws protect the criminals by keeping guns out of the hands of citizens. A criminal enters a no gun zone with confidence that the criminal has the only gun. Keep passing those gun laws and even by the thousands of laws do you really have the intelligence that tells you that the criminals will obey any of the laws? I think it’s time to shut the ACLU down and let the profile programs of the FBI to operate with law enforcement agencies. The murderer in Connecticut was a nut case and that fact came out after the crime by students who knew this. Teachers are bound and gaged by the ACLU as well as anyone else saying anything against anyone for fear of legal prosecution, now how nutty is that?
