Ramirez on protecting children

posted at 11:31 am on December 22, 2012 by Ed Morrissey

Over the last week, Barack Obama and many in Washington talked about the need to protect kids — a vital subject, to be sure.  However, while the political and media class seized on a horrific but exceedingly rare event to climb on a few hobby horses of their own, the biggest and most ubiquitous threat to the next few generations continued to get ignored.  Michael Ramirez puts that in perspective in his editorial cartoon for Investors Business Daily:

I’m not trying to minimize the horror of what happened last week, and neither is Ramirez. We should discuss and debate how best to protect schools from madmen, even if those events are extremely rare. But school security is ultimately a local issue.  We’re pushing the next few generations of Americans into economic slavery for own own greedy benefit today — or I should say our own greedy benefits, plural.  Washington can actually do something about this, since Washington is the cause of it.  Where is the demand to end deficit spending to protect the children, or even better yet, the demand for this generation to start paying down some of the $5 trillion in debt that the Obama administration has rung up?

As Glenn Reynolds is fond of writing, that which cannot be sustained … won’t be.

Also, be sure to check out Ramirez’ terrific collection of his works: Everyone Has the Right to My Opinion, which covers the entire breadth of Ramirez’ career, and it gives fascinating look at political history.  Read my review here, and watch my interviews with Ramirez here and here.  And don’t forget to check out the entire Investors.com site, which has now incorporated all of the former IBD Editorials, while individual investors still exist.

Sort of goes with the cartoon:

President Obama argued that because a deranged young man murdered 20 children and six adults in a Connecticut schoolhouse last week, Congress should immediately raise taxes on the nation’s highest earners.

In a similar vein, talking about the “fiscal cliff” the other day, Obama invoked a better future for our children and grandchildren. The truth is, the “fiscal cliff” is a tiny drip in the bucket of water representing the country’s financial problems.

And to say some “fiscal cliff” deal will improve our children’s future is a huge lie. He’s been destroying our children’s future for the past 4 years and will continue to do so in the next 4 years.

I wish there had been or would now be some Republican leader who’d just come out and say it. Obama has failed our future generations so completely. Obama is a failure.

Any time a liberal bleats “After all, IT’S FOR THE CHILDREN”, you better put your hand over your wallet.

And why is it, every time there is a call for fiscal austerity, the first thing liberals want to cut is funding for education?

No talk of cutting back political staff or political perks. Odd that, isnt’ it?

That sounds awfully dangerous. Isn’t that right out of Hitler’s playbook? Blah, blah, Occam’s razor. But isn’t that the most teetering-totter upon a slippery-slope?

I read the full transcript from La Pierre no-question press conference rather than watching it. Also the idea of federalizing armed guards (at what cost) is way out of bounds.

Who will admit that he blew it? WTF Wayne?

You really have to understand how Liberals think.

When those Children are old enough to suffer the consequences of the Liberal’s Policies, they won’t be children anymore, they will be Adults.

And Adults don’t deserve any consideration, especially since about half of them will be – Conservatives!

So why should they care about what those future Adults have to deal with – it’s the Future’s Children they’re worried aobut.

Ramirez is a national treasure, a telented genius for our times.

He nails the indecent Vulture in Chief, like no other can. Holder is likely having him watched.

Congress should pass a law that individuals with mental illness should not have access to guns. Based on the recent election, that would be about 51 percent of the country.

Not bad. I have to object to his suggestion Obama didn’t write his books, at least his first book, “Dreams from my Father”. What he could say is, it’s as factual as James Frey’s “A Million Little Pieces”. A made-up narrative, a lie, to create a biography of himself in the public mind.

Paul-Cincy on December 22, 2012 at 2:33 PM

1. Ramirez is a treasure.
2. He is correct that our government’s current trajectory will cost more lives than the evil slaughter of children by a mentally ill person whose mother trained him and provided him access to firearms.

Jgriff on December 22, 2012 at 2:39 PM

Considering that

1. The dims protected PEDOPHILES in their ‘hate crimes’ bill,
2. The left, having achieved phase I of their deviancy normalization scheme, making homomarriage normal, they are now trying to normalize pedophilia (hand in hand with the ‘gay’ agenda),
3. The left has helped murder 50 million babies in the womb,

The last people on earth I would trust to protect children are the mind-molesting, pedo-protecting, baby killing left.

Only in an emasculated and wussified culture is a 20 year old a boy. He is a man even if he refuses to “man-up”. A hundred years ago, “boys” as young as 12 or 14 were making their way in the world as men. Nowadays we want to keep them home and insured until 26. And with your mindset, you’re helping that liberal progressive crap along. Capitalist conservative my toe.

Secondly, only in a wussified America does one “have” to lock up their weapons from the chill’uns. I know im not the only one that had/shot a bb gun at 8 and a .22 at 12. While I did it for fun, I knew others at those ages did it to put food on the table.

One man alone was responsible, enough with passing the blame.

AH_C on December 22, 2012 at 10:49 PM

For white children there is a much worse threat than debt: continuing mass immigration will reduce them to a dwindling minority, and forced integration (for the whites but not for the non-whites who are free to keep playing us-versus-them racial games) will inevitably eliminate that minority. In other words, white Americans will be forced out of existence, in what amounts to white genocide. That is a lot worse than losing some money, or even a lot of money.

As a dwindling minority suffering official discrimination through affirmative action, set-asides, quotas and “disparate impact”, and they’ll see more and more clearly that the way the system is set up allows them no future. But they won’t have the votes to affect it.

The older generations have let the younger generations down horribly.
