Obama to gun-control petitioners: “We hear you”

posted at 2:46 pm on December 21, 2012 by Allahpundit

Three minutes of video that have less to do with pushing specific policies to reduce gun violence than pushing his supporters to keep up the pressure. One of O’s biggest obstacles in passing something is the public’s notoriously short attention span after a mass shooting. If the White House couldn’t get something through Congress after one of its own members was shot in the head by a lunatic, odds that they’ll get something passed in January, after a long holiday break and more fiscal-cliff clusterfarkery, are low. (Then again, Obama never really tried to pass something after Tucson because, as always, his reelection was more important to him than gun control.) He needs an all-hands-on-deck public pressure campaign by O-bots to keep the heat on, if only so that he can better demagogue Republicans later — the Clinton playbook — for failing to Do Something when the bill fails in the House.

Have a look at Pew’s new poll today to see just how tenuous his position is. Less than a week after 20 kids were killed, he still can’t get to 50 percent on whether it’s more important to “control gun ownership” than protect gun rights. Twenty years ago, 45% said the NRA had too much influence over gun laws; today, just 36% say so. (The number who say the NRA has either too little influence or the right amount exceeds the number who say it has too much.) This is a rare cultural issue on which opinion has become more conservative over time, enough so that O’s worried that even the bully pulpit and a national burst of grief over murdered children won’t be enough to deliver policy change. They might have enough momentum to get a very modest bill done; if they focused exclusively on high-capacity magazines or hollow-point bullets, they might peel off enough Republicans in the House to make it happen. But Obama’s already invested too much rhetorically in something bigger so he’s obviously playing a longer game of getting the House GOP to spike a new assault-weapons ban and then hoping it helps deliver the House back to Pelosi in 2014.

One silver-y lining for Democrats from Pew, though: On this issue as with so many others, younger voters are firmly in their corner.

With the glaring exception of seniors, those demographics break just as you’d expect given the results of the national exit poll in November. But as I say, young voters are the key. Heavy gun regulation is impossible now but, unless something changes, might not be in another 10-20 years. Gun rights advocates had better ramp up their outreach to them, replete with efforts to encourage ownership (which correlates strongly with support for gun rights, as you might expect), to make them more comfortable with guns or else trouble’s on the way.

OK, Mr. President, as of today, order the US Secret Service to immediately discontinue all USSS protection of your wife, and your kids. Order the same for Biden’s family.

And order that any private security guard for Clooney, O’Donnel, Tarantino, Michael Moore, Jay-Z, Beyonce and the like be arrested for violation of whatever federal gun violation fits.

Less than half of the murdered kids have been placed in the ground

On this issue, I posted this on another thread and those of us of faith might find comfort and the families of those killed might reading this wonderful Tribute to those children. It is a bit long.

Sandy Hook Elementary School

Twas’ 11 days before Christmas, around 9:38
When 20 beautiful children stormed through Heaven’s gate.
Their smiles were contagious, their laughter filled the air.
They could hardly believe all the beauty they saw there.
They were filled with such joy; they didn’t know what to say.
They remembered nothing of what had happened earlier that day.
“Where are we?” asked a little girl, as quiet as a mouse.
“This is heaven” declared a small boy. “We’re spending Christmas at God’s house”.
When what to their wondering eyes did appear,
But Jesus, their Savior, the children gathered near.
He looked at them and smiled, and they smiled just the same.
Then He opened His arms and He called them by name.
And in that moment was joy, that only Heaven can bring
Those children all flew into the arms of their King.
And as they lingered in the warmth of His embrace,
One small girl turned and looked at Jesus’ face.
And as if He could read all the questions she had
He gently whispered to her, “I’ll take care of Mom and Dad.”
Then He looked down on Earth, at the world far below
He saw all of the hurt, the sorrow, and woe.
Then He closed His eyes and He outstretched His hand,
“Let My power and presence re-enter this land!
May this country be delivered from the hands of fools
“I’m taking back my nation. I’m taking back my schools! ”
Then He and the children stood up without a sound.
“Come now my children let me show you around. ”
Excitement filled the space, some skipped and some ran.
All displaying enthusiasm that only a small child can.
And I heard Him proclaim as He walked out of sight,
“In the midst of this darkness, I AM STILL THE LIGHT.”

Start with the place where the most gun abuse and murders take place–the democratic-run inner-city utopias and call us when you’ve finished the job…or are you afraid to enforce the present gun laws strongly enough to lose votes?

Next, ban mattresses to stop rape, matches to stop arson, banks to stop embezzlement and robberies, and close the schools where danger lurks to stop the next Sandy Hook.

All these transparent orchestrated propaganda games to take away the legitimate properly owned and used guns from the good-guys? We know your goal leftists–we’ve heard it for decades now.

Shame on you, who own the sick culture of death, for blaming inanimate guns for destroying life when you’ve proven that care not a bit about it.

http://twitchy.com/2012/12/21/kill-yourselves-nra-death-threats-calls-for-suicide-abound-after-nra-presser/

Before this morning’s presser, lefties had hoped that NRA chief Wayne LaPierre would accept blame on behalf of the NRA for last week’s massacre in Newtown. Instead, he called for our nation’s schools to be equipped with armed guards and reiterated that guns can also be tools of self-defense. That didn’t sit well with anti-gun zealots, and Twitter exploded with hate directed at LaPierre and the NRA

d1carter on December 21, 2012 at 3:29 PM

All right, I propose the following: For anything they want to ban or control with new legislation in real life, there should be a corresponding ban on the depiction or use of the weapons or ammo or whatever in any venue whatsoever, like video games, in movies and on TV, even news reports. If no one in real life is allowed to have those things, then the use of them can’t be depicted in fantasy, on paper or in video life either. That means music videos as well. You can’t even include the description, operation or use of them in a news story, film or documentary even if they might be essential to the story. So if another gun massacre occurs, the news media cannot mention those types of weaponry, how they work, show pictures 24×7 of them, or even to tell us how the gunmen acquired or utilized them. If the existence of these weapons are so damaging that they have to be banned, then they must be banned from everywhere. If lunatics don’t learn of their existence, not even through video games or the internet, then they would be way less likely to think of getting one to commit a crime with.

If they don’t get this done by new legislation, I wouldn’t be surprised if they put something in the “Affordable Care Act.”

HHS is on Biden’s task force. Gun violence is often described as an “epidemic.” We were asked by our pediatrician if we had guns in the house as a “public health measure.” (My refusal to answer surely didn’t keep them from checking the box.)

There’s a lot of wiggle room in that bill. I wouldn’t put it past the current group to slide something in there as a matter of “public health.”

it would be too bad if you lost it!

In another time your type of mentality would have looked at people supporting the rights of others as. “Another Ni##er lover”.

Like most liberals, you seem completely ignorant of your lack of intelligence.

Sad, really.

There have always been communists and socialists in America, they just know now their guy is in the White House…never let a crisis go to waste.

Never owned a gun in my life. Plan to visit Cabella’s this weekend to change that.

mooseygoosey on December 21, 2012 at 2:53 PM

Congrats and all, but you are so goddamned late it’s not even funny. TODAY is too late, much less the weekend. Everything’s sold out. Scarcely a semi-auto “assault rifle” to be had. and forget finding any magazines for them or much of anything else. Inventories are gone with the rapidity of a breached earthen dam. Brownell’s sold 3-1/2yrs’ worth of magazines in the last 36hrs. Entire firearms-supply mailorder houses are being forced offline because of the massive number of orders overwhelming their inventory systems. Gun store racks are emptying out all over and the supply chain is EMPTY. You won’t even be able to get inside a Cabela’s this weekend, and if you manage, it’ll be empty.

CO got headlines two days after the CT shooting, a day after the CO Governor said, ‘let’s talk gun control’, with a backlog of 4000 NICS checks. It was 5200 yesterday. This is the greatest surge of panic buying EVAR.

Just go to http://www.ar15.com‘s General Discussion forum and read the anecdotes.

Cute. I’d like you to come live in my county for a year. Warning nearly every house has one or more semi-automatic weapons. The last murder in the county was 2007 when a kid killed his big strapping dad over long term physical abuse. Last bank robbery was well before that. We even have legal concealed carry w/o a permit. Funny thing is that we don’t have shootouts at the OK corral every weekend like say Chicago.

2010 homicide stats
Chicago; Population 2 million 6, homicides 432.
Arizona; Population 6 million 5, homicides 409.

Of course not all the homicides are gun related but you get the point with about 2.5 times the population of Chicago Arizona has less homicides even with their bitter clingers.

chemman on December 21, 2012 at 3:46 PM

That didn’t sit well with anti-gun zealots, and Twitter exploded with hate directed at LaPierre and the NRA

Those are just the obots, paid and unpaid. I’m sure none are from
the M.E. that are under the Dictators thumbs.

I’m starting to believe that’s what they want.

JPeterman on December 21, 2012 at 3:10 PM

Believe it. There’s a coterie of marxists around the PReezy that want that exactly. They need an excuse for a crackdown. It’s their hoped-for event to push their disarmament agenda over the top. They’ll be as offensive and abusive in this legislative and executive effort as they can be, hoping to provoke an outburst of violent action / draw the foul, so they can cry ‘see? see?’ and then ‘with regret’ ban everythign and turn gun owners into felons-in-waiting, to cow us still further.

I forgot in my last post to let Obamuh know I’ll definitely be lobbying my Congressman about guns–I’ll be urging him to do everything within his power to protect, uphold and strengthen the 2nd Amendment.
