Video: Full, unedited Crowder video of Lansing union protest

posted at 12:11 pm on December 20, 2012 by Ed Morrissey

We’ve already written about the assault on an AFP tent that took place in Lansing two weeks ago over the right-to-work legislation that has now become law in Michigan, and the attack on my friend Steven Crowder.  After the video of the attack first appeared, Steven’s critics insisted that he had edited the videotape to either make the union protesters look bad or hide evidence of his own provocative behavior.  In response, Steven has released all of his raw video footage of the protests that day.  Res ispa loquitur:

Steven asks in a panel in this video why we don’t see union protesters taking video of their demonstration, while the RTW demonstrators had multiple cameras rolling during the protest.  It’s a good question.

renalin on December 20, 2012 at 12:23 PM

You know, if you are going to engage in thuggery it probably isn’t the best idea to sport clothing that identifies your union and local. I could only get a few minutes into the video before I had seen enough.

This was two weeks ago and before the day was out, James Hoffa had talked about a civil war and a Dem politician said there would be blood in the streets. I wonder where they stand on gun control in the wake of the Newtown tragedy. Do they still want blood running in the street? Why haven’t they been attacked for incivility the same way that the media went out after Sarah Palin for a graphic that sorta looked like a bullseye in the aftermath of a liberal shot Gabbie Giffords.

They also trashed a local vendors hot-dog stand spouting racial epithets at him. And collapsed a tent with people inside.

thebrokenrattle on December 20, 2012 at 12:34 PM

I note that renalin has no problems with union directed violence. He only, apparently, has problems if people don’t stand up to them? Somehow, if Crowder had gotten out a taser and put the guy down, I doubt that renalin would be applauding Crowder.

But that’s just the hypocrisy inherent in the left.

renalin on December 20, 2012 at 12:38 PM

This shows unions to be just what I think of them to be. Ignorant, loud mouth, closed minded and brutish. Crowder didn’t go to the event to fight and he did a good job all in all.
The other goons are pissed because people are waking up and wanting to be free of unions. Getting pissed makes people angry and they want to hurt people and if innocents get in their way….so what. No intellect. They are use to being told what to think.

SgtRed on December 20, 2012 at 12:38 PM

“We’ve been through this. It’s not worth it”

That’s priceless. A virtuous guy in the group of union thugs reminds his fellow thugs that they are better while they shout threats and obscenities and eventually become violent.

The human mind is capable of such depths of deception.

Tim_CA on December 20, 2012 at 12:43 PM

The hypocritical and deceitful nature (not to mention the incredible stupidity) of those union goons was made amazingly clear by the one imbecile who near the end of the video confronted Crowder.

Union Goon: Yes, you absolutely have a right to be here, now get the eff out of our state.

Same Union Goon: Nobody has to join a union. (said while protesting the signing of a law that made it illegal for unions to force individuals to join a union to work)

SWalker on December 20, 2012 at 12:44 PM

Renalin sez, “What do you expect? Union goons to not hurt people? Why complain about union mobs hurting people? That’s what they do!”

Well, I guess it’s pretty safe to say that Crowder probably expected that he could get assaulted. He HOPED he wouldn’t, what with the left loudly proclaiming how they have a monopoly on peace, love, and tolerance, but you are right: “union” and “Decency” do not belong in the same sentence.

Doesn’t mean that your argument that Crowder can’t complain is valid though. Or is it your position that union violence is acceptable because it is expected?

Vanceone on December 20, 2012 at 12:44 PM

Looks like Crowder can take a punch. The other guy fell down rather easily, though maybe he was just impaired. One-on-one, without scores of his comrades backing him up, Crowder would probably dismantle the dude, and the guy knows it, so he chickened out of the MMA challenge. Oh, and 15 yards for the weak-ass horse collar by Mr. Brownjacket.

Re renalin – spot on though.

22044 on December 20, 2012 at 12:49 PM

Unfortunately this video clears up nothing about the events immediately surrounding the punching. (Though it will show how generally ugly the unions were at the event) The camera moves away from Crowder and the union thug, who are standing next to each other. When we next see them a few seconds later the union thug is hurtling towards the ground. We don’t see whether he was pushed or just fell.

In short, conservatives will see this video as proof that Crowder was assaulted for no reason. Liberals will see it as proof that Crowder started the fight by pushing down the union guy.

No minds will be changed.

If my friend was with me and he had that idea instead of me I would say to him “Are you nuts…? They’ll kill you.”
Not literally of course but to expect to not run into a little trouble would be reckless and unrealistic.
If after some trouble happened I then went to an usher and complained he would ask me “What did you expect…? Get out of here and go sit with your friends.”

Knott Buyinit on December 20, 2012 at 1:11 PM

Crowder had nothing to do with the foaming-at-the-mouth union ‘tard stumbling to the ground like the alcholic he probably is.

Unless Crowder has arms like an orangutan. Though partially obscured, the video nonetheless makes clear that Crowder wasn’t close enough to the guy immediately preceding his Art Carney buffoonery to have played a part in his faceplant.

From the 5:48 mark to the 5:54 mark, it’s obvious. In fact, Crowder wasn’t even facing him; he had his left to him. When the idiot gets back up, the first thing he sees is Crowder (who he’s already petulantly mad at — like a little girl), and so he starts swinging (again, like a little girl).

Watch it again.

And to any union knuckleheads reading this… please keep up your antics. It’s delicious that you’re apparently too stupid to even grasp the simple fact that such conduct is only reaffirming to the masses what so many have long believed — that you’re little more than thuggish meatheads.

The only problem with your analogy is that this wasn’t a sporting event. It was groups, including conservative groups, gathered on the statehouse grounds in Lansing. You’re suggesting that those non-union folks and/or supporters had less of a right to be there than the goons with a mob mentality bussed in to incite passions as Michigan joined the 21st century by becoming a right-to-work state. I’d disagree. Any citizen should have the right to show up in support of a position without the expectation they are going to be punched in the face for holding a different position than somebody else. The real problem in Lansing, IMO, was that the unions provided the “marshalls” that were supposedly there to keep things orderly. It was clear they did little to keep the mob from dropping those tents.

If Crowder responded with a hard right and a sucker punch, the union lawyers would have him in court, and who has deeper pockets. The union could drain the guy. Crowder knows that. I give him an A+

Crowder has a video on Detroit which is the best one I found that explains the degraded city. People say crime caused it. Jobs. Schools. Crowder understood this are results, not cause. Clone him. We need more Crowders

entagor on December 20, 2012 at 1:38 PM

Okay, I’ll just come out and say it:

We need to have a national conversation about the banning of Assault Unions.

Such a ban won’t infringe on collective bargaining rights, but we need to end the scourge of violence from Assault Unions.

If not for US, do it for the children..

Galt2009 on December 20, 2012 at 1:39 PM

So why did Steven wait so long to release the full video?

red_herring on December 20, 2012 at 12:41 PM

Main reason: I believe it’d be distasteful to release it as America was still in mourning.

Secondary reason: to let the media continually justify the acts of the unions and vilify me. As you can even see from some leftists in this thread. The tape is more impactful this way.

Also wanted to release the tape at the same time that raw footage is being sent to police officers following the report I’d filed.

StevenCrowder on December 20, 2012 at 1:39 PM

Any citizen should have the right to show up in support of a position without the expectation they are going to be punched in the face for holding a different position than somebody else.

Happy Nomad on December 20, 2012 at 1:25 PM

He was not punched for his positions.
He walked into an obviously hostile group to be deliberately provocative.
He got exactly what he expected and is milking it for all it is worth.
He wouldn’t change a thing.

his comedy not only sucks, he won’t even stand up for himself.

he deserved to be punched. little girls like him shouldn’t be around a group of grown men.

renalin on December 20, 2012 at 12:23 PM

Oh FFS. It was the smartest thing to do – didn’t you notice there were more of them? He could have been killed or seriously injured.

Besides, it’s going to look wonderful if a lawsuit comes forth and if your point is to make the liberals look like the moronic thugs they are, you can’t start throwing punches back right?

Think for a change.

So, bottom line – you think that thugs should dictate the actions of everyone, right?

That it should be Mob rule?

Are you really advocating that?

What happened to the Oppressive-Left’s calls for ‘Civil discourse’?

kim roy on December 20, 2012 at 1:52 PM

Steven asks in a panel in this video why we don’t see union protesters taking video of their demonstration, while the RTW demonstrators had multiple cameras rolling during the protest. It’s a good question.

Were these actions preplanned and premeditated?

Because the question would have to be asked about the release of their footage to corroborate their side of the story.

And it won’t look that good if it showed them to be the thugs that they are would it?

Galt2009 on December 20, 2012 at 1:52 PM

renalin on December 20, 2012 at 12:23 PM

then

There’s no excuse for this.
He should press charges (has he?).
Crowder’s a provocateur…he wasn’t throwing himself into the mix there as some sort of benevolent gesture.
This is Breitbartian, in every bad sense of that word.
A riff on the ‘all Occupiers are rapists!’ routine Andrew spouted.
No doubt Steven’s quite pleased to have this on his resume – and has made and will continue to make use of it.
But glad he didn’t get himself hurt worse.

thats my point. if you see a bunch of angry union thugs, and choose to confront them (i saw crowder standing front and center) then you must accept the consequences.

If somebody asks you a question on video, the correct response is not to assault them, assaulting them is not an appropriate or legal response. Stop justifying this thuggish and illegal behavior.

This is why we call people who act like this ‘violent thugs’ and file charges against them when they do this.

Mimzey on December 20, 2012 at 1:54 PM

Complaint already filed with Michigan state troopers.

alwaysfiredup on December 20, 2012 at 1:04 PM

As noted above, Crowder has filed a complaint with the police. He did so, I believe, within 24 hours of the attack. However, since the police only have multiple videos of the attack, clearly showing the face, body, and description of the assailant, since the assailant was wearing a Union jacket showing his Union, local and name; they don’t have enough leads to investigate. Or rather, since all leads dead end at a Leftist, they will drop the case.

One has to wonder: Are the Michigan State Troopers union? Is the local DA a Democrat? Is the state Attorney General a Democrat? Have there been communications between the Department of Justice [there is an ironical title for you] and Michigan authorities? Keep in mind, in the Kenneth Gladney beating; local, county, and state authorities ALL claimed not to have jurisdiction to file criminal charges for assault. It worked for the Left then.

I also note that our crusading, Journo-List 2.0 media has somehow managed not to investigate the attack themselves. If it was a Conservative who had punched a Leftist; we can be sure that the name, address, phone, pictures of his family [and exactly where they may be unto the 9th generation] , criminal record [real or invented], medical/mental history, and “dog whistle” calls for vigilante action would be all over the airwaves and front pages.

Since there has been no movement on this case since the 11th, it can be assumed that there will not be any. Incidentally, if he decides to file a civil suit against the Union, all it would take to show that this was an official union event for which they would be liable would be one flyer, email, or posting calling out the troops to be there. Not that he has a chance of winning it, but it would be revealing as he was thrown out of court.

This is just another example of what most people do not want to look at or admit. They are failing to connect the dots, because if they did it would lead to other inevitable conclusions.

1. No one who is not connected to the regime is protected under any aspect of the law or of due process.

2. No one who is connected to the regime is subject to penalties for any crime that they might commit, nor are they required to perform any action under the law or due process.

Realizing this brings a certain clarity to events of the last few years, and tightens one’s OODA loop.
