You remember how people being called the worst person in the world by Olbermann wore it as a badge of honor?

NotCoach on December 16, 2012 at 11:23 AM

The idea of not forcing seriously mentally ill people into treatment started with Gov. Edmund Brown Sr. (current Gov. Jerry Brown’s dad, who in 1985 regretted the chaos he unleashed), but that was just the first domino to fall.

In 1967, Gov. Ronald Reagan signed the Lanterman-Petris-Short Act (LPS), which went into effect in 1969 and quickly became a national model. Among other things, it prohibited forced medication or extended hospital stays without a judicial hearing.

A mental patient could be held for 72 hours only if he or she engaged in an act of serious violence or demonstrated a likelihood of suicide or an inability to provide their own food, shelter or clothing due to mental illness. But 72 hours was rarely enough time to stabilize someone with medication. Only in extreme cases could someone be held another two weeks for evaluation and treatment.

Chris Wallace can not hide it any longer he is one of them, just slicker at hideing it.

Hold the line, they counter attack at every nitch they see.

Fools want teachers to defend kids with their bare hands when in fact just one conceled carry person in any of these deals would have likely been enough.

What they do is misdirect:

So, this nut job kid, he is pissed, no gun but has the knowing of no guns to stop him, he does the best evil he can get his hands on, say a deadly gas, or even the natural gas in a building, or a tank of propane ect. a knife, a base ball bat, a bow and arrow, an axe .

It is not the guns, it is the hate and the mental state that makes them suicical.

It’s Time, America – Ban Them NOW
http://thepeoplescube.com/peoples-blog/it-s-time-america-ban-them-now-t10176.html

Every year in the United States nearly a half million children are tragically killed. The top two causes of these deaths are:

1) Car Accidents

2) Drowning

It’s time America gets serious and does something about it. NO ONE needs a semi-automatic assault car,

When will we say enough is enough? Compared to the number of children killed by firearms every year in America – approximately 1000 – the car and water deaths are astronomical! Approximately 260 children are killed by cars to every 1 child killed by a firearm!

Stop the insanity NOW. Write and beg President Obama to make a law that bans the purchase, sale, and ownership of both semi-automatic assault cars and high capacity water containers.

If not for yourselves, do it for the Children, do it for the planet.

Not to get too controversial here, but perhaps it is time to consider a ban on Dihydrogen Monoxide itself.

A push to take away civil rights? Just like a Liberal.

Shame on you and the anti gun crowd for making schools “Gun Free” zones in the first place. GFZ’s perpetuate gun violence by giving those that would committ these types of crimes places that they can go that will allow them to kill with greater impunity MANY more times the amount that they would in a non gun free zone.

I suppose that is why these mass killings NEVER happen at the gun range. They also don’t happen in Isreali schools – where the teachers are commonly armed.

Shame on you for calling for law abiding citizens to lose their civil rights. You are obviously not responible with the First Amendment’s free speech clause and should lose that right immediately.

The ancient Egyptians believed that no body would truly be dead if their names were said.

May their families receive eventual healing from this horrific event.

I was clicking around last night and landed on Huckabee, who I really can’t stomach, but he had the father of a Columbine victim on as a guest. So, how about full disclosure to the American and Mexican people on the facts of Fast and Furious, to include the known number of children killed in Mexico by the “automatic long guns” B. Obama, Ms Clinton used out tax money to send into Mexico without even telling the Mexican Goverment what they were up to.

Heartless fiend. You are the one who should be ashamed, but like the killer at Sandy Hill, you have no conscience and not much in the way of morals.

The right thing to do is to allow school districts to include having a firearm available and developing protocols for it’s use in at best mitigating the carnage and possibly preventing deaths in such instances as this.

I blame Obama and Reid for letting lapse Federal funds for enhanced school security nationwide. I bet the programs in place weren’t included in any of the budgets the Senate rejected these past three years.

And before some lying troll tries saying Conservatives always want budget cuts, it’s a duty of government to provide protection to its citizens.

Obama and the Dems provide only lip service, in the form of ever-more repressive laws. That, plus the media puff pieces on them and the self-congratulation for ‘taking a stand’.

And while I’m here, I’ll note that firearms are the problem insofar as the school districts are kept from availing themselves of the benefits of including firearms in district security protocols aimed at ensuring the safety of the children they are charged to protect when in their care.

Not having it as a part of their security protocols ought to be considered negligence, except that they have no say in the matter because politicians in state government. It is they who are responsible preventing school districts from truly protecting our children while at school, not the school districts themselves.

lostmotherland on December 16, 2012 at 9:23 AM

Hedonism is a bad habit. Not the private possession of firearms.

SOBER gun owners socialize just fine with each other. Even if a pair of SOBER gun owners did get into a argument over something, they wouldn’t go scrambling for their guns to settle it.

Kids with toy guns play “cowboy”.

SOBER adults play with “paint guns” while wearing eye protection.
Personally, I’m not interested in paint guns. But I support the right of those who are interested, to play with them.

The blame is guns; the blame is on the mom; the blame is on the parents’ divorce; the blame is on the guns being unsecured (though there is no evidence either way); the blame is on gun owners; the blame is on the NRA, etc.

But no one in the media or among liberals blames the b*tard who committed multiple crimes in his goal of killing. Instead there are only excuses for him.

The MSM, and liberals in general, make me sick.

Like I said on the other thread, the only chance the gun rights extremists have of winning a real discussion/debate on this issue is to mute it.
Seems this tragedy has stolen that card from them for good.
So sure, rant here all you want here against people having this conversation.
But better reasoned folks will start prevailing now.

Great Idea, NotCoach! I recall that Congress established a Civiliam Marksmanship Program some years ago – and that would be a great place to put them back into the employment of the people.

As to the use of pot and personal experiance, lost three high school budies to pot so far, two college budies, and nephews/aunts in my family. I have to support two of them now as they can no longer hold jobs, can not even add 2′ 3″, 13/16″ to 5′ 4″ and cut a 2 X 4 correct. Pot all of it.

APACHEWHOKNOWS on December 16, 2012 at 12:16 PM

I’m sorry you lost pals. I truly am. But it wasn’t because of weed. It is impossible to overdose on marijuana.

If by losing buddies, you mean they can’t hold jobs – neither can 23 million Americans. And neither can sloppy drunks who partake in legal vices.

So you pick and choose only those Bible passages which can be loosely construed to ‘bolster’ your position.

Homosexuals do the same for same sex marriage.

Racists do that to rationalize bigotry and segregation.

Hell, even atheists do it to slam the church and Christians.

I don’t put a lot of stock in a religious book written by fallible men and manipulated by the Catholic church to suit it’s needs, AND has been translated more than any other book in history. Translations always lose meaning.

But I do see wisdom in the Bible as well, and have read it most of my life. I just don’t see the point of basing my relationship with God on the words on mere mortals (often contradictory in nature)

Drunk drivers are far more of a problem than mentally ill random shooters (although what these shooters do is horrific) and yet I never hear anyone advocate for the overthrow of the 21st amendment. This is selective outrage, if innocent lives were really their concern, then there would be no alcohol allowed in our society.

Time for some differing “gun-control” opinions…..

While taking groceries to her car, a man approached an 82-year-old woman and said something horrible to her: “This is your day. You are too old to be alive anyway.” According to police, he then grabbed the woman’s cane and beat her. Despite the savage assault, the elderly woman managed to reach into her purse, draw her gun and fire a shot. The man fled and, upon hearing the shot, store employees quickly came to the woman’s aid. The self-proclaimed “stubborn, old broad” is badly bruised but will fully recover. “If I go naturally or to a sickness or something, fine,” she said. “I’m ready to go, but I’m not ready to let some idiot like that take me out.”

A crazed, knife-wielding man attempted to stab people at random in a convenience store parking lot. Police said he’d already chased a delivery driver and others when he ran down a car leaving the lot. He lunged at the car’s driver with the knife, wounding him. That’s when the driver, whose two young stepdaughters were in the vehicle, produced a handgun and fired about six shots, killing the attacker. The driver will recover from his injuries.“You’ve got to protect yourself,” said witness Byron Cook.“He had his two kids in the car and they were terrified.”

Raymond Michel and his wife, Dawn, returned home with their grandson when the 9-year-old noticed a suspicious light in a downstairs bedroom. Dawn investigated and found a few items in disarray. Then she found a garbage bag outside with money and jewelry in it, and a window screen was damaged. She ran to tell her husband that someone had been – or still was – in the house. Michel got his handgun and walked upstairs. Items were strewn about the floor and a bathroom door was shut that the Michels always keep open. Michel kicked the door open and it struck the intruder. The suspect began to aim a rifle at the homeowner, who quickly fired his handgun, shattering the door and narrowly missing the intruder. The suspect laid on the ground as everyone waited for police.

tommy71 on December 16, 2012 at 1:16 PM

I am so busy in life right now I am unable to comment much on Hot Gas, though I read when I can.

My general takeaway from this sad, horrible massacre:

The conversation needs to stay away from the emotional cries of, “ban the guns.”

A gun ban, of course, will not solve the problem, any more than draconian sentencing laws have stopped the crack epidemic.

I am solution-oriented. I am a problem solver. Even some of my immediate family doesn’t like me because I want to solve problems, and stay out of the “drama,” and so I “stir things up,” they say.

When problems are there, you can ignore them or face them. You can point fingers and assign blame, and indulge one’s emotional side, or one can be an engineer and solve the damn problem – “drama” be damned.

So…. some thoughts:

1. Due to an apparent epidemic of young white males shooting up the public, an armed guard should be stationed at every school in America. Period. Yes, this may sound like militarization, but yes, as a proud gun owner, I agree that there is an immediate problem to address and to stabilize.

2. A greater effort must be made to identify alienated kids, WHILE – WHILE!!!!! respecting that some of society’s most creative people, including geniuses such as Tesla, are alienated. How to identify alienated kids without becoming Big Brother? A big challenge. No one wants their kids on a list. I think that use of a school psychologist would likely be sufficient, under existing frameworks. As an ex-teacher, certain kids are known to have “problems.” There already is a “list” of troubled kids, if you will. The key is how to integrate that list with prospective purchasers of firearms, and do it in such a way that creative artistic people are still able to defend themselves and exercise their 2nd-Amendment rights. There has to be some way of weeding out the alienated artists from those who have been talking about “blowing things up” and making threats. Kids who exhibit these signs, and also play “first-person shooters” video games should be puton a red list. IMO, first-person shooters games definitely do breed killers from the small percentage of players who cannot separate video-game from reality. I have watched these games. I firmly believe that first-person shooter video games breed killers among a small percentage of players, as surely as surely as PCBs breed cancer among a small percentage of consumers.

3. What cannot happen, of course, is a massive bureaucracy established, a la “1984,” to track people. It’s a tricky thing to do. Given the current overreach of the 0bama administration in every area, and lack of respect for the law, can the current administration do this in a trustworthy manner, and gain the trust of the people?

NO.

4. I do know that banning guns will not help, any more than Prohibition prevented my great-grandpa from building a still in the woods, then wearing overcoats with many pockets to local dances, wearing a bowtie to let folks know that he was carrying, and making more money in a night than his neighbors made in a month. Tighter gun laws will only drive purchases further underground. Unless 0bama plans to go door to door registering and seizing guns, they will do nothing but drive the “bitter clingers” into combat mode. I understand that there is an emotional, visceral reaction in the land, but there are too many guns to ever control it with legislation. Murder is illegal already and yet it happens.

SO:

A. Have either an armed guard at schools, and/or allow CCW-permit teachers/employees to keep their weapons in their cars in the parking lot. In the Old West, these massacres didn’t happen, because an armed citizen was usually near to stop the crazy guy.

B. Do a better job at finding and evaluating unbalanced teens…. and get them help if they show signs of ideation.

Yes, of course this gets the camel’s nose under the tent as far as monitoring kids. Sure it does. How to do it without creating Big Brother is the challenge. I certainly have zero faith in the 0bama administration, in that it is a lawless cabal or corruption.

In a way, this is good. We have nearly the worst-case government in place. We can vet all proposed laws by the rubric of,
“Do you trust the 0bama administration to play fair and uphold the Constitution?” 0bama is a laboratory of fascism, already in place.

So our challenge:

D. Reduce these shootings without abetting the growing autarky and fascism in the land.

A challenge.

God rest the little children and comfort the families.

How sad… how awful.
